In parts of the world where a premium is placed on male children (India, China and other Asian nations), female foeticide is pretty common.

China's one child policy caused a surge in the practice and has led to a disparity in the male female ratio. There are about 40m men who would not have partners in China because they kept on aborting female children. I think there are plans to outlaw the practice in some of those places though.

Shameful to read someone saying birthing is a life and death thing - have you not heard of men who died trying to impregnate their wives?
