Mambilla-plateau-taraba-state has cool weather for growin tea.
I saw a thread on this place some while back. You can imagine my surprise and shock that they grew tea in Nigeria. Coming from a country whose people are the most notorious drinkers of the beverage (yes, even more notorious than a certain island off the European mainland located in the middle of the North sea whose language we are using to communicate on this thread ).

1, yes we do have

2, Tourism in Nigeria centers largely on events, due to the country's ample amount of ethnic groups, but also includes rain forests, savannah, waterfalls, and other natural attractions.

3, States runs their own portals

Okay. Wakanow seems an interesting start point should i ever visit Nigeria.
What i really wanted to know as far as tourism is concerned is whether there is a concerted effort by govt/private sector actors to jointly promote your country. Having individual states do their thing is good but its not coordinated. I hope you get my meaning.

Ps. On another thread completely different from this one i asked :do Nigerians consume tea? If so where do they get their tea from? I need someone who can give me a brief overview of the hot beverage market in Nigeria or send me a link to that effect. Thanks in advance.

This thread won't die, eh?
I am curious and would like to know something about Nigeria :
1. Does Nigeria have a tourist industry?
2. If so, what type is it?
3. Is there tourism portal for Nigeria on the internet? something akin to http://www.magicalkenya.com
4. Where can i get info on flight connections within Nigeria?

Thanks.

Nigerians consume more of cocoa over tea and coffee unlike Kenyans who are high on tea . Most tea brands are imported. Dairy farms will thrive very well in that region.
Hahaha about being high on tea you are very correct about kenyans and am very very very guilty in that respect. Am also at least a cocoa man 25% in compensation. Btw some churches in Kenya forbid their members from consuming tea and coffee. Its about the caffeine. Apparently its considered sinful owing to its addictive tendencies. LOL.
One smaller question would be about the tse tse fly situation in that specific part of Nigeria. That is what will determine if dairying can succeed there or rather not.
Agriculture / Re: Beautiful Tea Plantation In North East Nigeria Photos by ThunderingHooves: 9:26am On Nov 07, 2016
Nice. I just love the sight of green. @Pavore9 this is also the type of climate where dairy cows thrive. Someone mentioned that Unilever pulled out because the returns were poor: does this imply that most of nigerians still drink imported tea? Am curious on this, i need info on this, anyone who is in the know please respond

So what is your point of argument? If your country Nigeria is a hell hole dont stack it up together with countries that are actually trying to make progress... Not unless the countries you mentioned like latvia and Slovakia you suggest dont have challenges et al. Latvia has been suffering from recession while Slovakia has severally been embroiled in civil/political turmoil and unrest at particular periods, but the way this countries pick up the pieces determines their progression and growth.
Eastern African countries are moving steadily in developing infrastructure and implementing billion of dollars in making East Africa one of the biggest business hubs. Current projects o that are turning heads are:-

LAPSSET(Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia) project
- This multi-billion dollar project starts at the Kenyan Coast at Lamu where the biggest free port in Africa is being built to cater for the larger Eastern African landlocked countries, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, DR. Congo and mainly Kenya.
SGR(Standard gauge railway)- This will be the first longest inter connecting railway line between 4 countries in Africa capable of catering for 50m metric tons per year of cargo to wider east african Region.
Electric Train- The first African electric train connecting 2 different capital cities was launched this September between Ethiopia and Djibouti
Nairobi train Metro System- To be completed by July 2017
Contrary to what alot of uninformed people are busy yapping, LAPPSET is the largest public works program on the African continent by a loong stretch.

giANT of Africa vs Ordinary Kenya

Fact 3
PORT SERVICES

NIGERIA- Handling capacity-5.75 million tons
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is responsible for managing Nigeria’s ports, some of which have fallen behind international standards in terms of the quality of facilities and operational efficiency. Recognizing that the government lacks the funding and expertise to modernize facilities and run the ports efficiently, the NPA is pursuing partial port privatization by means of granting concessions to private port operators. Under the terms of concession agreements, the government would transfer operating rights to private companies for a finite number of years without forgoing ownership of the port land. Nigeria’s principal container port is the port of Lagos, which handles about 5.75 million tons of cargo each year. The port, which consists of separate facilities at Apapa and Tin Can Island, has a rail connection to points inland. Port Harcourt, a transshipment port located 66 kilometers from the Gulf of Guinea along the Bonny River in the Niger Delta, handles about 815,000 tons of cargo each year and also has a railway connection. Both ports are not only responsible for Nigeria’s seaborne trade but also serve inland countries such as Niger and Chad. A new port is under construction at Onne about 25 kilometers south of Port Harcourt. Relatively modern and efficient terminals managed by multinational oil companies handle most oil and gas exports.

KENYA- Handling capacity- 8.5m tons
Mombasa has the only commercial port that reaches international standards and the second biggest in Africa. Mombasa's commercial port is called Kilindini Harbour and is run by the Kenya Ports Authority, it lies on the Indian Ocean. It consists of 19 berths, 2 oil terminals/jetties, 1 bulk grain handling berth and 4 container berths with the capacity to handle 180,000 containers at any given time and 12 general berths for cargo.

There are building another international port in Lamu to the north east of Mombasa.

There is an inland port at Kisumu which serves Lake Victoria serving Kenya exports to Northern Tanzania, Uganda, DR. Congo, Rwanda and Burundi.

All the 3 ports enjoy 100% access via Road and Rail and Air transport. It boasts of the newly constructed SGR(standard gauge railway) that was recently built that can handle both human passengers and cargo.

CONCLUSION- Kenya beats Nigeria in the efficiency, modernisation and handling capacity of its port usage hands down.
I never knew this, we learn something new everyday. You mean ordinary Mombasa handles more cargo than all 9ja ports combined? @smoriacy angalia hio data

what truth??

Do you even realize how deeply divided Kenya is with regards to class. Why else are slums so prevalent in your country? Why else do NGOs make money off the misery of your people?? Kenya is a good country but like most African countries, it is only good if you have access to resources which most of your population don't. Simple NYS which Nigeria has been implementing since the 70s, your leaders could not keep their sticky fingers out of it. The project just died out like that.

No one is saying Nigeria is better, just stop with the dead comparison, it is appalling to watch. Kenya is a lil bro to Nigeria, the comparison makes no sense. Trust me, I have lived in both countries. Your upper middle class is our lower middle class, do the math!
You sound very disgusting. In all the 10 years you lived, you have all this to say, what a pity. NYS in Kenya died a natural death because it was seen as a ideological centre for the moi regime, just get your facts right. Most of the posters here are sticking to idevelopment indicators like access to health services, mortality for mothers / infants, water supply etc etc and not an individual's personal experience which by definition is biased.
Ps: I was robbed within my first 1 hour being in Joburg. It introduced me to the very serious reality of personal safety and crime n SA, but I'm not going to go around hating on all South Africans.

You feel it is necessary to call the kettle black? Stick to the topic man! Why don't you visit Kenya with a clear mind, then assess things. Your ignorance of African countries is simply astounding, must you seek opinions from others?
And the most important aspect of this thread is that a group was found living with expired visa, and were arrested after complaints by locals. You obey the law everywhere you go, brother, it's that simple.

Pollution and your daring kenyan still use coal to generate power. stop comparing Nigeria with America we're still developing country.for business shoplite don't have any reason to stay in east africa because nigerian middle class are more than east african middle class combines together so i don't think they have any to stay. And because nigerian rich men are not looking towards Retail business doesn't mean they are not doing well in their field, we're close in taking over oil and gas business in our country which nigeria is known for and investing in many african countries even in your east africa. For exchange rate you're talking of sending 100,000ksh to make 470,000naira and i want to ask you for how many years? any business that give you profit of 100,000ksh in kenya will surely gives you 1million naira in nigeria. things are happening outside nigeria really but not in kenya and nowhere in ss africa except s.africa.
Kenya is yet (as i write now) to produce electricity from coal. A plant is being built even now, but still none. My advice to you, brother, is to keep abreast of happenings across the world, and speak what you know. Alot happens in Africa, a load of things. You seem to be under the impression that nothing at all happens, how sad. Most Kenyans do not take empty chest thumping and grandiosity very well, it would be wise if you heed that if you ever came here.
Listen to our big brother @Pavore9 , he gives a balanced and true picture.

PS: Kenya is not one huge safari park with rhinos and Lions roaming the center of every nook and cranny, it has alot of things am sure you don't know exist here.

Many years after leaving high school, i look back with regret my sloppy attitude to reading set books for the national exam. My efforts were expended in answering exam questions around the books involved, rather than savour the beauty of the language within and appreciate the art of the wordsmith. That attitude was however impossible to bear when considering the works of Shaaban Robert who was and still is the undisputed King of the kiswahili language, and the best known exponent of works in that language (I am prepared for a fight on that assertion).

Peerless, he wove a simple tale with such an extravagance of words, and a complex one with such economy, he often brought tears of joy to my eyes. In fact, so popular was he as a writer amongst both the common student and examiners, his books lasted longer than the norm on approved set book lists. His prose and verse were simply peerless, he is considered the Shakespeare of kiswahili language.

It's people like you that make some people on this forum despise Kenya/Kenyans.
The regional ish wasn't necessary...after all, when people look at you, they see you as a Kenyan. They won't know whether you come from Central or Western.
Even if you come from the moon, they will look at you as a Kenyan.

Nigeria is better than Kenya in some areas whilst Kenya is advanced in others. These insults u are showering on the country and its pipo are unnecessary.

We can use the survey evidence to prove the areas in which these two countries fair better than the each other, they are aplenty online.

Just imagine, you are in a country with no valid visa, still have the gut to rape their citizens.. Haba! When are we going to stop disgracing ourself.

I heard they also busted today around Fedah stage in Embakassi. Not until we change our orientation about how to live and behave with others, this kind of a thing would continue to be happening to us.

The most sad of it are the innocent Nigerians arrested who got no clue about what brought the arrest

It beats me why alot of your countrymen think we are a dump, when we are infact a major diplomatic capital and alot of foreigners who want a feel of Africa choose Nairobi or Kenya as their first or preferred port of call. Am not trying to market ourselves here, am just stating a perception of Kenya amongst the outside world is overly positive and is by all means a leading African nation.

As for pictures of native tribesmen they are bombarded with, i have this to say: we are a very multi cultural country and those images are more of a marketing gimmick. Loads of Kenyans i know feel that this approach by the country's tourism authorities does not reflect Kenya well and infact alienates 90% of them. Infact, many want a total rebrand of the country. Those tribesmen are no doubt a part of the nation ,but are by no means a ubiquitous sight, except where they are the indigenes.

If that were the case, I'd have said that Nigerians are ritualists, fraudsters, etc. But I can't generalise because I know that every society has a few bad people.
The same cannot be said about many people on this forum who think that all Kenyans are poor and hungry and that Kenya is underdeveloped. That's why some people think that what I wrote about Kenya can only be found in Europe. Why? Because they only think negative things about Kenya. Some people are getting defensive and abusive here because they have realised that Kenya is way better than they thought.

Anyway, the aim of my post was to shed light about Kenya and give a clear picture. Whether Nigeria is the giant of Africa or not is not the issue here.

So they should allow them to continue their fraudulent activities and Kenya lose their status as a country where many foreigners outsource their online jobs to. Paypal allows Kenyans to receive payment into their paypal account which l also do but could not sell it to Kenyan exchangers because am a Nigerian because they suspect the fund is not clean and there is a history of Nigerian yahoo boys in Kenya manipulating the system.

It appears the arrested group thought they would simply just appear and blend in seamlessly. They didn't contend with their very noticeable accents, lifestyle, loudness, and all other "other worldliness" they were very busy displaying. The same way a ordinary kenyan would be bamboozled by a simple greeting like "how de body" in Nigeria, is the same way they might have been nabbed here when asked "niaje", where both salutations refer to your health or well being as a greeting. And am told walking styles are different too!!!

I have no reason to lie.
Truth is there are so many opportunities for Kenyans and good things are happening there. For example, there is a youth fund, and a women fund...there is a laid down structure governing the two. Women and the youth access low interest loans easily. They do business or invest in whatever they want and then return the loan. This has helped a lot of people.

Most of the stories you read about Kenya are not even in the mainstream Kenyan media. It's just bloggers or individuals who are hell bent in generating traffic that look for such stories.
Life in Kenya is good.
You are right about the irresponsible "bloggers " posting "news" about Kenya /Kenyans. Do you live in Kenya?
