I searched on TG, the recommended kernel for ginkgo is QuicksilveR kernel. I have the v2.4, there is a latest v2.5. Kindly advise. Thanks.

Arrow os make sense. Is there any bug?. I enjoyed it on my Redmi Note 4. But for my new Redmi Note 9s am even yet to unlock it let alone installing TWRP.

Making sense! No bugs at the moment. This would be my daily driver. As for the smoothness, I read on xda, can't really remember again but it says something about the OS having an inbuilt custom kernel with refresh rate at 90hz.

Olayinkajnr thanks once again. It was a crazy ordeal migrating from A10 MIUI 12.0.3 RN8 to A11 crDroid 7.3. I opted for Derpfeast A10, which is beautiful, clean & smooth so far. I got an OTA already, I wanted to be sure on how to go about it;

Yea I'm aware just that it's coming earlier than anticipated. Morso, there was worry of one major OS update policy. Anyways custom ROMs are readily available.

Special thanks to @olayinkajnr @Grandmufti was able to flash fastboot ROM on my RN8. Thought I would be able to manually update to V12.0.2 but was told I wasn't a beta tester. Will wait for OTA then

On the contrary, I personally feel Xiaomi should do something about update for RN8, it's a sad tale for as many waiting for MiUI 12/ A10.

That's because you didn't select the right path you saved the extracted folder to.

Simple, move the extracted folder of the fastboot ROM to local disk. Also, use miflash20190612 or so. But while flashing, select clean all flash option. Do not select flash all and lock else, your phone will be damaged.

Also, make sure you have an unlocked bootloader. Else, you'll just be wasting your time.

Thanks Bro, would move the unzipped root folder to local disk. As for 'clean all only', I'm very mindful I thick that. Bootloader is unlocked.

Good day guys. Happy New Year. I had two error messages while trying to flash fastboot rom V12. 0.1.0 for RN8. First was can't flash script- which I corrected by unzipping the .tar file inside the rom. After that, I ensured the unzip file was left only in the parent folder then tried to flash. I got "can't find directory error". MiFlash20200314 was the version I used.Kindly assist.

NB:
I don't need root access nor custom recovery for now hence the fastboot process of trying to flash MiUI 12 on my RN8. Thanks.

What do you mean by data copy of miui 12?

1. flash miui 12 fastboot rom. Check telegram for link

2. Install custom recovery. Check your device's telegram group or google.

3. backup system image/vendor in twrp.

4. Flash magisk to root

5. Install migrate app to backup app data. Check migrate group or YouTube.

*Caveat*

Some apps won't install except from playstore. Only backup user apps and not system apps.

Whenever you decide to return to miui from custom ROM, backup your app data with migrate app and then flash miui 12 recovery rom OR flash fastboot rom to wipe the phone and start afresh

Thanks GrandMufti. I need boot, system and data copy of a stable MIUI 12 version, just in case I decide to go back to MIUI. I don't want to get to MIUI 11, whenever I decide I have had enough of custom rom. I'm presently on MIUI 11 v11.0.9. Thanks.

Fastboot ROM is usually larger depending on phone.

RN8 Fastboot Should be around 3.6GB flagships are almost double this size.

MIUI 12.0.2.0 fastboot ROM isn't out yet only 12.0.1

If you are worried about file sizes and data to be expended tweaking and installing of ROMS isn't for you. Because most custom Recovery even if you stick with stock MIUI will require you downloading the full recovery ROM anytime there is an update.

You got me wrong about the worrying, perhaps I didn't explain well enough. The initial small size made me believe I got the wrong file when I saw the 3.6GB fastboot rom of MIUI 11. Data for download isn't an issue. I needed guidance on how to go about the issue raised. Thanks though for the info @bolded, I wasn't too keen about 12.0.1 due to the complaints raised on that rom version.

Yea I know. I contemplated going the route of flashing fastboot rom but the rather small file size got me we worried if I had the correct firmware, cos I saw that of MIUI 11 v11.0.9 of 3.6GB.

Would appreciate if you could help with pointers on how to get a backup copy of MIUI 12 before proceeding with a custom recovery and rom. Thanks.

Good evening guys. Was able to get my device-RN8G unlocked. Guys kindly assist, I needed to have a nandroid copy of MIUI 12, I'm stuck on MIUI 11 v11.0.11. I downloaded this firmware fw_ginkgo_miui_GINKGOGlobal_V12.0.1.0.QCOMIXM_f5da3c2665_10.0 size 69MB or so and this rom miui_GINKGOGlobal_V12.0.2.0.QCOMIXM_b58f9663d7_10.0 kindly direct me on what next to do to have MIUI 12 nandroid copy( or wait till OTA drops) before I install twrp and a custom rom. 3. OTA on OFOX doesn't always work. Quite complicated rather and an ardent waste of time. But MIUI based custom ROMs are good. Very good.
4. All aosp and CAF based android 11 ROMs are not yet stable, even if someone tells you oterhwise, it's a lie. It can only be managed but an annoying bug will definitely make you run back to Android 10 based AOSP ROMs or MIUI.

Good day guys. Help needed please. I'm currently at the 168hrs wait for BL unlock. I read a report that OTA V12.0.2.0.QCOMIXM for RN8 on V11.0.11.0.QCOMIXM would be released soon. My questions are as follows:
1. Can I do OTA with an unlocked BL on stock recovery? (I think yes but want to verify from experienced guys)

2. Would my BL be locked if I proceed with Q1 above?

3. Most of the custom roms for my device advocates for TWRP, was thinking Orangefox would be best for ease of OTA for MiUI based custom Roms. Please advice.

4. I intend spending a week on Derpfest A10 before using CAF Android 11 (LA.UM.9. X) or any AOSP as my daily driver. Any advice? Thanks.
