You can clearly see that it was not intentional.

There was absolutely nothing he could have done to remove his hand at that close range, but even at that, he was taking his hand away from the ball when he was hit.

When it happened initially I believed it was a penalty but replays showed that a penalty call would have been a VERY harsh decision.

I will gladly agree he is a good player for PSG particularly in the era in which they've dominated their domestic league with the arrival of their Qatari owners in 2011, but he isn't great defender you call him to be. That guy was always in the defense line when they get dumped out of Champions league year-in year-out.

Like I said earlier, when great defenders of this era will be mentioned, Thiago's named will likely be missing.

Also jorginho and kovacic pairing for midfield without a breaker like Kante will be disastrous. Kante should start along side jorg and giroud should start upfront. Ziyech would be great to whip in those crosses for Giroud.

It’s the intent the refs look at. TAA intentionally raised his leg. DCL was probably already falling before TAA raised his leg to trip him, but TAA did raise his leg to trip him and that can be seen as trying to stop a clear goal scoring opportunity. Even TAA did not protest against the pen because he knows what he did. When the ref went to the VAR monitor, I expected him to come back and brandish a red card and I am sure TAA feared the same.

The ref did not waste anytime at the VAR screen probably because he immediately saw that TAA intentionally raised his leg and that was all he was looking for. I think he was lenient, Mike dean would have given TAA a red card.
