Thank You! It's not a red flag |

Happiness67: Ok bro, but you are also assuming too, let's not try to derail this thing, let's focus on helping him and pls let's not try to find fault on another person's response to a question,it is not too good, it is like trying to make someone look somehow.Just air your opinions by quoting the question, without highlighting or quoting another person's response. Love you bro Sorry if my reply looks like am trying to find fault. Just wanted to explain the whole scenario to him. All the options he planned to use can work out. He should just make sure everything is legit |

Happiness67: Hello bro,if you followed his quote well enough, you would have understood what I meant. He said and I quote 'can I use my cousin or aunty in america bank statement to get my i20 while I and my sister work on BUILDING the ONES we plan to use for the interview'...So the question is what if they got another source of fund that is not family related, then how is that not a discrepancy? He then said 'POSSIBLY' using his sister's bank statement for the interview after building substantially on it in his subsequent post, what if his sister's acc is not available at the time of interview or it has not reached the required amount(43k) as at the time of interview and they have to look for another source outside, won't that result to a discepancy in information provided on I 20 and bank statement presented during interview. My advice was to inform him to play safe and consider all scenarios, thanks. You are assuming, he hasn't started looking outside. Family funds includes parent, uncle, aunt, cousins, siblings. Thats what you will see on most i20 aside self sponsor. So everything he is doing is still within family and even if he eventually get another statement of account elsewhere, he can still claim the person to be his uncle/aunt. Your uncle/aunt must not have same surname with you. |

Happiness67: Firstly, you have to decide whose bank account statement you want to use for the whole process, it is a red flag to use an account for collecting the I-20 and using another account for the Visa interview,it is a discrepancy, how do you plan on defending this? What do you plan on telling the VO on what happened why the person decided not to sponsor you again or why you decided to change your sponsor? Note: The VO's are looking for inconsistencies, pls try not to put yourself in that situation. Except if you have a very convincing reason for the change which still depends on how the VO perceives it. Best advice is be totally sure on the account you want to use before collecting the I-20.
Also, from what i've gathered here, it seems using an American bank account statement has two sides to it. Depending on the kind of VO you get,it might be a sign that might constitute 'lack of home ties' , meaning that you can decide to stay back after studies because you have adequate sponsorship for your welfare beyond your studies, this is not a good sign for F1, but another VO might feel that you have a good source of money to take care of your studies and grant you the Visa but my personal opinion is 'why risk it?' Most i20 don't carry name, so there is no way a V.O will know the account statement the person used when collecting his/her i20, so i don't agree with the discrepancy issue you raised. Also he can use his sisters own to collect i20 then go ahead to used his own account statement. There is nothing wrong in it. The only way there will be issue is when the school writes the name of the sponsor on the i20 of which 90% of schools don't do that. Once all the means of sponsorship are genuine, he can use any. Personal account statement of sponsors are well encouraged than business accounts. |

So has anyone gotten F-1 lately? Time for fall 2019 interview hasn't reached as many will be going for fall own. Nevertheless, the rate of refusal you are seeing shouldn't frighten you, it has always been so. |

sheke01: Ok, let's assume you run around, get people's statement of account to use to get i20, then you use the same statement of account to get visa, then you run around for flight money and come to yankee.
How do you intend to pay tuition of $9k per semester. Bro, don't be deceived, you can't hustle $18k to pay a session school fees doing menial jobs o plus I heard North Carolina is a dead state. Remember you will still take care of your accommodation, bills and et cetera. Do your calculations well o except you no really wan go school
You might not have trouble getting visa with conditional admission as most times the VO don't even look at admission letters. All they really care about is your i20. My admission letter wasn't requested in both my interviews.
You already have a masters degree and going for another masters, this might be a challenge o, but it's surmountable if you prepare well and grace dey your side.
You are above 35years, with a masters degree, why not shoot for a PhD.
This one you have to pass a certain course (s) and conditional admission, this smells like you will have to take prerequisites courses and with my experience taking prerequisites courses, that funding that you've been promised with mere words might not be coming anytime soon.
All in all, please do not come here with your masters degree and drop out of status or drop into community college. I just feel you can do better for yourself.
In my opinion, If you really want to go to school, look for funding from Nigeria or shoot for a PhD. Except you have ulterior motive.
I hope this helps you Always on fire . Nice advice for him but is north carolina a dead state? |

mrcodebreaker: Hi! Everyone I want to start making plans for my visa application. I plan to apply in a few months for my fall 2019 admission. I am currently self employed and will be sponsored by my elder sister (unmarried) and cosponsored by my younger sis (unmarried) and Mother (civil servant) who both work here in nigeria. The program I am going for is geology totally unrelated to what my business does (Steel construction services - things are tough and man gotta bounce). I am planning ahead and I really want to know what you guys think.
The masters I am going for is related to my 1st degree (2012 graduate) and I have admission already in the US. But it is unrelated to my business which is steel construction services(it was lucrative back then). I see questions like what have you been doing since graduation and I need to know how to make moves on that. I was working for a while but quit 2 years years ago and started my company in 2017.
Also what if I am asked why i am leaving my company to go for masters, is it not a red flag? So I am thinking of using a friends company to pay myself salary monthly. till my application in maybe june. So I can say I have been working in so so and so company etc
I would like to know if, even if i am saying i am being sponsored by my family will i need to present my own bank statement etc. would they ask for mine?
Me saying I was working in xyz company now will they ask for my own bank statement if I am being sponsored and also how much much be in the bank statements of my sponsors all together in naira pleaseeee? etc etc.. I have travel history to uk and sa.
Need your input guys please I am planning way ahead. Thank you
Need a response please guys Since your masters is related to your 1st degree, you don't have anything to worry. Just give a good reason why you are going for the masters if asked by the V.O. Don't give yourself so much headache and stress over this. If you feel using your friend's company will boost your confidence, its also a good option. Any of the option is good. As for sponsorship, you can go alone with yours if you have a good sum of money in it. Your sponsors SOA is what they need mostly. |

Mikkyboy: Dear all,especially 'Seniors',
I noticed that we rarely talk about funding here, although I know that it is the Nigerian culture to hide earnings but I feel it could help newbies make decisions especially those with "stella" profile (even though we with obasanjo profile need it too) as they maybe having multiple offers.Another thing that make me wonder what's wrong with sharing what the full funding entails is that we are almost anonymous here.
Also how has your experienced been with the amount given to you monthly,is it enough or you have to do extra "hustle" ?. I am asking this especially to those who have full funding so that others coming may prepare their mind for what is ahead of them.
Thanks in anticipation.
P.S : make una leave that lab small, socialize here on nairaland and go back to the lab

solihp: Hello, I got into Villanova University . Got the email to check my application portal around 2am Nigeria time today. 4am Nigeria time yesterday, I got an email from the graduate director of my department that he has recommended me for admission.
It was such a fast turn over because I wrote my GRE on February 6th, I immediately sent my unofficial scores to him via email, when my scores became available online on February 14th, I uploaded it to my application, it was on Monday when my official scores got to them that all the requirement was met. I am of the opinion that he read my application before I submitted my official scores.
Also I have been in contact with him before my GRE exam and he waived the evaluation requirement and TOEFL for me when I sent my transcript and letter of English Proficiency from the Registrar of my school to him via email.
The deadline is March 1, so funding decision would come after then.
My profile: My search was guided by the time I took my GRE cause most school's deadline has closed. Here: GRE: 161Q, 153V, 3.0AW( pretty disappointed by the AW but nothing spoil) Undergrad: 3.47/4.00 No publication 3 letters of recommendation from my lecturers
Still awaiting decision from:
Bowling Green State University University of iowa Georgia State University George Washington University Michigan Technological University American University
I applied to a mix of Masters in Statistics and Biostatistics
Fall 2019, yes we can Congratulations! |

Hey guys.
I just got my admit decision from UT Dallas for MS in Accounting (Fall 2019). I am still expecting a response from UMD and TAMU-Commerce.
I have searched online and LinkedIn for placement statistics for UTDallas but I can't find much except what's on the school website.
Please tell me what you know about Big 4(audit) recruitments on the UTD campus (internship/full-time).
Is it worth getting a loan for?
Thank you.
. We have deloitte and EY, plus other top firms in Texas. Getting a loan isn't a bad idea. |

But please can you suggest schools that’ll be my best bet (preferably in Texas) Haba, you dont need to get a supervisor before applying go U.S schools. U.S is not like canada or Australia. Just apply, they will match you with a supervisor. |

LordSir1: Good afternoon all, Congrats to all those that secured admission, funding and visa.
I’m currently preparing applications for a Masters in Electrical Engineering (non-thesis), I recently took the Gre which really hit me but I’ve decided to proceed using it. Please I will greatly appreciate any help
My profile GPA (free wes evaluation): 3.8/4 GRE: 153Q, 155V IELTS: 8.0 Work experience: Industrial training for 6 months (and NYSC posting to a school)
I have tried to pick out a few schools that I think would fit my profile (mostly as a result of the Gre) Texas tech Texas state University of texas Dallas University of texas Elpaso Texa A&M kingsville
However I can only afford to apply to 3 schools, please I would appreciate your suggestions and advice, I’m also open to other school suggestions (preferably in Texas. Thank you Why are you going for a non thesis program with this great GPA of yours and your GRE score is not bad at all. Please apply to MS/PhD programs and am sure you will get funding with this profile. |
