| Education › ‘best Poly In Nigeria Is Federal Polytechnic Nekede’ by Timekeeper(op): 2:04pm On Oct 05, 2018 |
The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri in Imo is the best polytechnic in Nigeria, according to the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr Masa’udu Kazaure made this known in Kaduna on Thursday, at the end of the Second Regular Meeting of the NBTE Governing Board. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Modupe Adelabu. Kazaure explained that the polytechnic emerged the best after scoring 85.08 per cent in the assessment of 112 federal, state and private polytechnics in the country, in the pilot ranking of Nigerian polytechnics. He said that the exercise covered 2015/2016 and 206/2017 academic sessions. He said that the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun came second with 73.08 per cent, while Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State came third with 72.31 per cent. Other polytechnics in the top 10 included The Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State, ranked fourth with 67.69 per cent; Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger, fifth, 65.38 per cent; and Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo, sixth, with 63.85 per cent. Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, Enugu State, seventh, with 62.31 per cent. Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Ondo State and Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos State were ranked eighth with 60.77 per cent. Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra was ranked 11th with 60.00 per cent and Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi, occupied the 12th position with 59.23 per cent. The NBTE boss also said that when disaggregated by ownership, the Federal Polytechnic Nekede also emerged the best Federal Polytechnic in the country followed by Federal Polytechnic Ilaro and Kaduna Polytechnic. “The Polytechnic Ibadan, IMT and Rufus Giwa polytechnics were the highest ranked among state polytechnics, while Lagos City Polytechnic is the highest ranked private polytechnic and the 16th in the country. “Dorben Polytechnic and Heritage Polytechnic were the second and third best private polytechnic in the country. Kazaure explained that the polytechnics were ranked based on total number of programmes with full accreditation in the last two years and percentage of programmes with full accreditation. “Other criteria include proportion of academic staff showing the right mix, that is, chief lecturer and principal lecturer down to assistant lecturer; and ability of institution to introduce programme in new and emerging fields. “They were equally assessed based on capacity building of staff both within and outside Nigeria, teaching quality, including staff /student ratio and ratio of full-time to part-time staff. “Other areas are availability of current Campus Master Plan, Strategic Plan, and Academic Brief; percentage of academic staff with relevant higher qualification and professional registration; and 70:30 technology-non-technology enrolment ratio. “Another consideration was the incorporation of entrepreneurship education into the institute’s curriculum and fully established Entrepreneurship Development Centre,” he said. He said other issues discussed by the board borders on quality assurance, accreditation, resource inspection visits and proliferation of illegal technical and health institutions in the country. He said that 191 out of the 239 programmes in 41 polytechnics visited for accreditation between June and September 2018 were granted full accreditation while 48 got interim accreditation. He also said that 117 programmes were scrutinised for resource inspection within the same period and 94 programmes were granted interim accreditation to commence operation, while 23 were denied. “Four proposed private polytechnics were also visited for approval and licensing within the period under review and only one was recommended while three were asked to remedy some identified deficiencies. “The governing board also approved a memorandum of understanding with Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria to reduce the burden of duplication of quality assurance visitation and accreditation activities. “The board also agreed to hold meetings with relevant stakeholders to put an end to proliferation of illegal technical institutions and unapproved private health institutions operating in the county. “The board particularly commended the effort of the Kaduna State Commissioner for Health, Dr Paul Dogo for expressing concern to the board on illegal health institutions operating in the state,” he said. Kazaure added that the board equally frowned at the conversion of colleges of agriculture to polytechnics by some state governments and agreed to take necessary actions to put a stop to the development. Everything you need to live well Nnenna has not been on speaking terms with her parents. This is the fifth year she will bring up the conversation on marriage and her parents are adamant. She will not marry him as long as “they are alive”. He is not Igbo, therefore there is no standing. It would have been different if he were from another Igbo speaking state not Yoruba, a culture alien to them. With the same stance, they sing a dirge for their kinsman’s daughter who got married to an Edo man. Welcome to Nigeria, a land replete with a rich cultural history dating back to centuries. So unique is her society that within the confines of a geographical landscape, the neighbouring community of fewer than 300 miles stands a probability of speaking a different language. Yet this beauty is her undoing: Intricacies of mistrust, subtle tribalistic wars (and feelings of superiority) reign supreme. Peter Okoye and Lola Omotayo-Okoye Goodswill Akpabio and Unoma Ekaette Akpabio Communities are rife with the fear that a tribe is filled with ills that continue to threaten the existence of the people “spiritually;” their agitation that your name is about to be lost along the times of history in their line; that you have become the sheep led to the slaughter/ the fly who dances near the cow not knowing its end is near. This fear is not exclusive of her bias for her neighbour’s community. Therefore, the saying, “what the child is seeing standing, the elder sees it sitting” waxes stronger. What they do not realise is the danger it portends: the stop of a man from becoming one flesh with his destined wife, It is the clamp-down of the jaw-dropping pride that children wear on their sleeves as they tell that their parents are of mixed Nigerian blood, to prevent the promotion of diversity, to quench the stereotypical fuel that continues to burn. Examples continue to disprove this saying: Ibrahim Babangida and his beloved wife, Ndidi “Maryam”, Godswill Akpabio and his wife, Unoma “Ekaette”. Badamosi Babangida and Ndidi Maryam Babangida An Igbo lady who has been married to an Akwa-Ibom man for five years told Guardian Life, “He’s the best in-law to my parents. In fact, he’s the best thing that has happened to me. I couldn’t have asked for anyone else. This tribal rife deceives us. Love is universal, the tribe is not a barrier.” But then, you are left to choose: If you should become as obedient as a child who fed from her mother’s breast or the child who faced the odds and overcame the raging storm. | European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › 'I Already Sit Where Messi And Cristiano Are' - Griezmann by Timekeeper(op): 9:48pm On Sep 17, 2018 |
After being left off the shortlist for FIFA's The Best award, the Frenchman insists he is still hoping to win the 2018 Ballon d'Or Antoine Griezmann claimed he is on the same level as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as he set his sights on winning the Ballon d'Or, despite admitting he can make improvements to his game. The World Cup-winning France forward missed out on the three-man shortlist for FIFA's The Best award, the winner of which will be announced on September 24, but he is nevertheless feeling confident of his chances of being named the world's best player later in the year. In contrast to FIFA's prize, the Ballon d'Or winner is determined by votes from journalists, and Griezmann described the prize as more prestigious. "I think the Ballon d'Or has more prestige and history," he told AS . "There's three months left to give everything. "It is clear that I am a different player than Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar or [Kylian] Mbappe. I'm at the top but I can improve. "I seek to be as complete as possible. I'm not going to score 50 goals, but I'm looking to help offensively and work for the team. "I think I already sit where Messi and Cristiano are. And I know other players are going to come for sure. "I want to improve, I want to win and I want to continue like this, playing in this way." Griezmann was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona during the summer transfer window, but he explained that his decision to turn down a move to Camp Nou was in part a tribute to his team-mates and head coach Diego Simeone. "Saying no to Barcelona gives greatness to Atletico, Cholo [Simeone], my team-mates," he said. "I trust them and we contribute to each other a lot. "I stay where they give me more love. If it was for money, I would have gone to China. "It was a very important decision for my future. You do not only look at one year, you do it thinking about four or five. It wasn't as easy as choosing a candy." Atletico's disappointing start to the new La Liga season continued on Saturday as they drew 1-1 with Eibar, with Monaco up next for Simeone's men in the Champions League on Tuesday. Do you think he is right m.goal.com/x/en/news/8/main2018/09/17/47850282/i-already-sit-where-messi-and-cristiano-are-griezmann |
