PoliticsGanduje Receives AMAC Chairman To APC, Kano NNPP Lawmakers Set To Decamp by TimeManager(op): 11:49am On Apr 19, 2025
The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has held a closed-door meeting with some prominent members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) from Kano State, fueling speculation about an impending political shift ahead of the 2027 general election.

Those present at the meeting included Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South in the Senate; Rt. Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, representing Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure federal constituency; Hon. Aliyu Sani Madaki, representing Dala federal constituency, and a former lawmaker, Hon. Badamasi Ayuba.

The development was confirmed by Senior Special Assistant to the APC National Chairman on Visual Communication and Events, Aminu Dahiru, in a post on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday evening. According to him, the meeting was part of the groundwork for the politicians’ planned defection from NNPP to the APC.

“It is public knowledge that in recent times, these prominent politicians have openly expressed their dissatisfaction with the leadership style and perceived injustice from the NNPP’s national leader, Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso,” Ganduje’s aide.

Ganduje Receives AMAC Chair, Councilors, Hundred Others

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has declared that more than 60% of residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are now in the ruling party.

Ganduje, who formally received the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, his councilors and thousands of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters, Labour Party (LP) members across the six area councils of the territory into the APC, at a rally held at Old Parade Ground, Thisday in Abuja, said “the territory is important to be left in the hands of opposition parties.”

According to the APC national chairman, with the latest political development, the ruling party is set to produce the only Senator for the FCT, two member of the House of Representatives and all area councils chairmen in the territory.

“Ladies and gentlemen, as part of that Renewed hope agenda, today we have started seeing that FCT will be converted to APC. Today we have a great political giant, we have the chairman of AMAC which is the most popular local government in the Federal Capital Territory.

“The chairman with all his elected councilors, with all his appointed councilors, with all the politicians from PDP, they have decided to come to our great party, the APC. He has come with his thousands of supporters.

“Also, we have decampees from Bwari Area Council. We have decampees from Kuje Area Council, we have decampees from Abaji Area Council, we have decampees from Kwali Area Council, we have decampees from Gwagwala Area Councils.

“What remains now, almost all the politicians, all the people, more than 60% of the Federal Capital Territory is now APC,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the former APC Governors, the immediate past governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello declared no vacancy in the Aso Rock presidential villa comes 2027, adding that” President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will overwhelming be re-elected to continue with the good work he is doing for the country.”

Bello called on all members of the party who have one issue or the other to come together and unite to make the broom platform virile for any electoral contest, stressing that APC will soon take over all the area councils in the FCT.

“All the Area Councils will be APC, it is just a little time that will take. Let me commend our national chairman, let me commend the state chairman of FCT, Alhaji Usman for all the wonderful job he’s being doing.

“When I came into this arena I was shocked to see the mammoth crowd that turned out within this shortest possible time.

“Let me tell you that this mandate that Mr President is carrying, is the mandate of the people and the people of this country have spoken and I want to assure you that come 2027, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock. I will use this opportunity once again, to appreciate all founding fathers of our party, Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu played a significant and very pivotal role in ensuring that we have a party we are all trouping to join today.

“Our former president as the first president under the platform of the APC, former President Muhammadu Buhari. He has said it time without number that he remains a father in APC and he is a member of APC.

“Let nobody mistake it that Mr President and former President have any issue. In fact, they continue to confer in moving this country forward. So we have APC intact, I call on all other members of the party who have one issue or the other, you can’t build a house and run away from it. I urge everybody, let’s come together and unite. Other political parties are just going to escorting us to the villa come 2027.

“Come back, when you are inside APC, and you are making your demands you are talking but if you leave APC and you are outside APC and you are making demands, you are simply making noise and those of us that are inside APC we will tell you to keep quiet. Therefore, APC is the owner of Nigeria today and tomorrow,” he said.

While presenting the defectors to the party’s national leadership,

APC State chairman for FCT, Abdulmalik Usman assured that the party under his leadership will redouble its efforts towards ensuring that the ruling party takes over the nation’s capital ahead of 2027 general election.

The Minister of Special Duties, Hon. Zaphania Jisalo, who addressed the mammoth crowd at the event tagged “Abuja Unity rally” heaped praises on President Tinubu for living up to his promises to carry along Abuja indegenes in his administration.

Jisalo said he is a living testimony of the President commitment towards the empowerment of Abuja indigene since he is an integral member of the federal executive council (FEC).

The Minister of State FCT, Hajia Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure urged the electorates to sustain their support for the APC led administration which is living no stone unturned in uplifting their well being.

The opposition labour party (LP) in 2023 general elections had swept the presidential and Senatorial poll in the 2023 poll to the chagrin of the APC led administration.

It is only a matter of when, Kwankwaso would have returned to APC a long time ago, would even have been appointed a minister but Ganduje was the stumbling block. And as Ganduje has recently claimed that NNPP is dead and Kwankwaso is coming back, it means Ganduje has finally accepted to welcome Kwankwaso into APC. With the statement of Kano NNPP Chairman, they must have known already.

The state's Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, made this statement on Thursday during an appearance on News Central, where he addressed the growing insecurity in the state.

The Borno State government has raised concerns over the infiltration of the state by foreign terrorist elements.

The state's Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, made this statement on Thursday during an appearance on News Central, where he addressed the growing insecurity in the state.

"We have in the rank and file of Boko Haram, militants who are not from Nigeria but from neighbouring countries like Mali, Burkina Faso, and other countries. That is what we mean by foreigners joining the rank and file of Boko Haram,” he said.

"It is a federal matter. We are aware that the federal government is taking steps to safeguard the territorial borders of the country. The relevant security agencies—the Army, the Police, Immigration, and others—are working hard to detect the entry of foreign assets into Nigeria.”

He described the matter as “sensitive” because “Nigeria’s boundary, and indeed boundaries all over Africa, are porous”.

“We have cases where bandits and terrorists go in and out undetected. That appears to be an Africa-wide problem,” he added.

His comments come amid rising concerns over the resurgence of Boko Haram terrorism in the state.

Earlier, Governor Babagana Zulum raised the alarm over the worsening security situation in Borno State. Recent Boko Haram attacks and the dislodgement of military formations in key areas like Wajirko, Sabon Gari, Wulgo, and Izge indicate that the state may be losing control.

Speaking at a Special Expanded Security Meeting in the first week of April, Zulum condemned the ongoing attacks and kidnappings, emphasising that such incidents were happening almost daily without any serious confrontation from security forces.

He described the situation as a serious setback for Borno and the wider North East region.

The Plateau State Government has launched an investigation into the alleged poisoning of 36 cows in the state.

The cattle said to belong to one Samaila Nuhu, were reportedly poisoned on April 16, 2025, at Tafi Gana Junction in Zanwar Ward of Bassa Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Mrs Joyce Ramnap, the government said it is investigating the matter through the Ministry of Livestock Development, Veterinary Services, and Fisheries, noting that a team of experts has been deployed to collect samples and determine the cause of the incident.

The commissioner urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculations that could inflame tensions or disrupt peace in the area.

She emphasised Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s commitment to justice, transparency, and peaceful coexistence among citizens.

According to the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Bassa, Ya’u Idris, the cows were poisoned by substances laced on garden eggs scattered around the grazing area.

The statement read, “Our attention has been drawn to an allegation circulating on social media, particularly from the GAFDAN Media Team, concerning the alleged poisoning of 36 cows belonging to one Mallam Samaila Nuhu on the 16th of April, 2025, at Tafi Gana Junction in Zanwar Ward of Bassa LGA.

“While the government is deeply concerned about this report, it urges the public to remain calm and avoid speculations or narratives that may further inflame tensions or disrupt the peace in the area.

“In line with Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s commitment to justice, transparency, and peaceful coexistence among all citizens and residents of Plateau State, the Ministry of Livestock Development, Veterinary Services and Fisheries has been directed to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the incident.

A team of veterinary experts, environmental officers, and field investigators has already been deployed to the location to collect samples and establish the facts surrounding the alleged poisoning.

“Government remains steadfast in promoting peaceful cohabitation, inclusive dialogue, and sustainable solutions to longstanding issues of land use and grazing practices. We therefore appeal to all stakeholders to avoid inflammatory statements and allow the due process of investigation to take its course.”

The government assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to establish the facts surrounding the alleged poisoning and urged stakeholders to avoid inflammatory statements and allow the investigation to run its course.

NBA must return that money. How can you collect money from Rivers and go spend it in Enugu, collect another one from Enugu Government and return Rivers money. PoliticsRep Solomon demands return of N300m hosting rights to Rivers, criticises NBA by TimeManager(op): 9:19am On Apr 18, 2025
Bob Solomon is a lawyer and politician

A former Special Adviser to ex-Gov Wike

A member of the House of Representatives, Solomon Bob, has asked the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to return the N300 million paid to it by the Rivers State Government as hosting rights for the association’s 2025 Annual General Conference.

Mr Bob, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Abua/Odual and Ahoada East federal constituency of Rivers State, said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

He frowned at NBA’s refusal to return the money after moving the conference from Port Harcourt to Enugu
.

The federal lawmaker urged the Rivers Administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, to use every constitutional means to retrieve the money from the professional body of lawyers in Nigeria.

The N300 million was reportedly authorised by the suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminilayi Fubara, prior to federal government’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state due to a protracted political crisis.

The crisis pitted Mr Fubara against his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now a Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In March, President Bola Tinubu suspended Mr Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly from office.

The president also appointed Mr Ibas, a retired chief of naval staff, as the sole administrator for the state for an initial period of six months.
The appointment was later ratified by both chambers of the National Assembly in accordance with Section 305(2) of the Nigerian Constitution.

The NBA, however, condemned the emergency declaration and the appointment of Mr Ibas, with the arguement that it was unconstitutional.
The association maintained that President Tinubu lacked the authority to remove an elected governor from office and threatened that it would relocate its annual conference earlier scheduled for Port Harcourt to Enugu State.

In response, Mr Ibas requested that the money paid as hosting rights for the conference should be refunded if NBA insists on relocating the annual conference.

The NBA, however, insisted that it would proceed with relocating its annual conference and would not refund the N300 million because it was a “gift” from the previous administration.

“Unreasonable gift”

Mr Bob, a former special adviser to Mr Wike, alleged that the money was a misappropriated public fund that must be recovered.

He said the refusal to refund the money was “unreasonable” and a “proof that they (NBA) were engaged in a relationship of compromise with Fubara”.

“Having witnessed Fubara’s dangerous and incomparable incompetence first-hand, and the embarrassing diminution his actions have exposed my state to, I consider the statement arrogant and a gratuitous insult.

“The NBA had got itself entangled in a sweetheart deal with Fubara, a quid pro quo, and it was set to use the Port Harcourt conference to whitewash the worst misgovernment of any state in Nigeria,” he said.

The lawmaker described NBA’s action as [b]“rank hypocrisy and insincerity
because it stood idly by without a whimper when suspended governor Siminilayi Fubara exhibited the type of crass lawlessness and wanton irresponsibility never before seen in any state in Nigeria.”

Justification for state of emergency

Mr Bob justified the state of emergency, arguing that NBA lacked the legal authority to challenge the president’s powers under Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution.

“The NBA cannot circumscribe or amend the clear untrammelled and discretionary powers granted the President by Section 305 of the constitution. Neither is the NBA in a position to interpret or determine what measures qualify as extraordinary – which the President is required to adopt under the same section.

“The NBA does not have the jurisdictional competence or ethical example to be a barometer for measuring democracy and constitutionalism,” he said.

The hypocrisy of the NBA is the fact that they're not really interested in fighting the constitutionality or otherwise of the SOE, rather they're more interested in their own stomach infrastructure. They know that if after collecting N300million from Fubara and then go ahead with the conference without putting on an appearance that looks like they are fighting for the man that gave them the money, when Fubara finally comes back, their food shop will close automatically. Knowing that Rivers State is the biggest sponsor of NBA conference since the time of Wike. NBA is playing a common sense game, how would they support a man that will be around for only six months as against a man that will be there four atleast four years, when they can always come get the cookie jar from Fubara anyday anytime.

PoliticsN2.6bn Gone: Rivers Businesses Count Losses As NBA Pulls Out Over Political Cris by TimeManager(op): 5:11pm On Apr 17, 2025
Rivers State’s business landscape is facing a staggering financial blow following the Nigerian Bar Association’s (NBA) decision to relocate its 2025 Annual General Conference (AGC) from Port Harcourt to Enugu.

The switch, prompted by the political instability rocking the state, is estimated to cost the economy a jaw-dropping N2.6 billion.

The NBA cited the “absence of democratic governance” and the imposition of a state of emergency as reasons for the move.

Initially, Port Harcourt had been selected to host the six-day conference, which was expected to draw over 16,000 lawyers from across the country, an event that would have been a major economic boost for the state.

Now, hotel owners, transporters, restaurant operators, market traders, and nightlife businesses are left licking their wounds. According to analysts, hotel bookings alone could have fetched N1.4 billion. Food vendors stood to rake in N576 million, nightlife activities were projected at N300 million, transportation at N62 million, and market vendors were looking at about N200 million. And that’s excluding the multiplier effect on other service providers.

This economic setback follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s March 18, 2025, declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, which led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Prof. Ngozi Odu, and all State Assembly members. Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas was appointed as the state’s sole administrator.

The NBA didn’t mince words, condemning the appointment of a sole administrator to run the state—a move it said undermines the rule of law and tramples on democratic institutions. In an emergency meeting, the NBA’s National Executive Council maintained that the president’s actions violated Sections 305, 11, and 188 of the 1999 Constitution and that hosting the AGC in Port Harcourt under such conditions would amount to endorsing constitutional violations.

“Port Harcourt is no longer a justifiable venue for the 2025 AGC,” the NBA said in a statement. “To hold our flagship event there would be a tacit approval of unconstitutional governance and a breach of our core values.”

The association instead chose Enugu, a city it believes still operates within the bounds of constitutional democracy, as the new host for the conference, assuring its members of a successful and impactful event.

However, the NBA’s decision has triggered sharp criticism from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, a key political player in Rivers State.

Wike accused the NBA of hypocrisy and claimed their opposition to the emergency declaration was financially motivated, noting that Rivers State had earlier pledged to fund the conference.

Speaking during a visit from the Body of Benchers, Wike said: “What kind of hypocrisy is this?” He called on the Body of Benchers to rein in the NBA, accusing some of its members of hasty and public condemnation of court judgments they barely understand.
