It is not about comparison it wether or not they were also rans before he came. It’s like saying etoo put Cameroon on the map in afcon. They were already a feared team but with etoo they became better. Argentia were South American giants, former world champions on two occasions. You could say Maradona restored glory not that he introduced it to them.
Jokerman:
Can't compare Mario Kempes with Diego

If okochas talents brought about end products he would have won team and individual laurels. Many street boys exist that have talents not all make it to the big time. Okocha lacked ambition I dare say. He was contented to just appear and entertain. He wasn’t a competitive footballer.Yes the likes of xavi xabi Gerrard Lampard or pirlo May not have jay jay’S Technical ‘potentials’ the little they had was used exponentially. As good as ronaldinho was, once he lost focus, Barca dropped him and from there it was a downhill slope for him. At best, okocha was a potential that was never truly realized. A case of what could have been.
Jokerman:
I understand what you are saying bro...I was speaking from the perspective of individual talent not end product

As a coach I don’t think you’ll pick okocha before any of those you are laughing about. And I guess you don’t know about the others either. Football is however a game of opinions so we both have rights to our opinions.
Jokerman:
Lol... Only two midfielders 3 midfielders are worthy to stand okocha from you list..

Maradona
Zidane
Ronaldinho

The rest....lol... Xavi, Iniesta, Modric (really), seedorf... lol

He played the required number which was 10
gibzzhd:
I don't think he got a medal that season because he didn't play the required number of games.

Damn son, this Nigeria was especially where I had problems with him. The talent was obvious but the use was not purposeful. A less talented footballer like xavi or even xabi Alonso or Toni Kroos were better because they were purposeful with the way they played. No unnecessary entertainment yet they are greats in their own rights.
jaszplus12:
Kaiiiiiiiiiii... you're overrating the okocha I know! Was he a freekick specialist? A great passer of the ball? What shooting technique? All I remember is his dribbling skills...no doubt about that...and only at Bolton did he play purposefully to lift the team...and at Frankfurt while still developing...for Nigeria believe me he didn't push the team enough to consider him better than average.
Our problem is we're unduly emotional about who we follow and rate them from our point of view

Stop with the false arguments please. They had won two world cups before then, lost a final too. They weren’t newbies.

Oga Maradona made Argentina a country to reckon with in football

You just Dey use concept wey u no know the meaning. What exactly is box to box in football? And how does it relate to yekini? Him Dey follow go defend everytime opponents attack?
oluwaahmed:
What was so special about yekini? He was a classic box-to-box striker like ighalo & Agahowa. maybe the slight difference was his speed despite his size.
Odemwinge, martins on the other hand could switch up from 9 to 8 to 7 sometimes and they scored mad goals for club and country. Same thing with KANU.
BTW okocha was fully in Nigeria squad of 1994 that won the nations cup & 2nd round KO of usa94.

Maradona zidane figo zico iniesta Xavi cryuff Platini modric rivelinho seedorf Lampard ronaldinho pirlo scholes jairzinho George best, di stefano, puskas

When you talk about an all round contribution to a team I think okocha will be severely benched by most of these guys up there. If your team were leading 4-0 you might sub okocha in to entertain the fans.
Jokerman:
I'm term of footballing talent (no records, no acheivements etc).. just footballing talent I.e passing, skill, vision, dribbles, one on one situation, technique etc... Name 5 midfielders in the history of footballer better than Okocha...
