If you bought that for your child, your child won’t be attending a public school. Most teachers in private schools love their jobs more than they love your kid. They’d rather allow your kid be a waste than lose their jobs. If you however bought the phone genuinely for good reason, you’d also know to always ensure your child hands it over to the teacher every morning and only had access to school outside school or when you call through the teacher. If the phone like make e cost 1billion, there is a right way to use it. seanwilliam: so assuming I bought iphone 11 pro max 512 gig for her, the teacher would still do the same |

Answer this objectively, from the number watching on there, are there many of them who would now rather keep their phone at home than bring them to school and face this situation thereby obeying the school rules? Is it harsh? Yes. Is it drastic? Yes but is it necessary? Sometimes this is the only way you get through to some kids. The kids now understand that there are consequences for their actions. This is a lesson that cannot really be taught with words. We know that a finger put in fire will hurt not because we were told but because we actually got burnt. The lesson stays with us forever. Glorylynn: I totally agree with you, but do you think this is the best way to get rid of the gadgets? Do you know the definition of a school? According to oxford dictionary, a school is an institution for educating children. Do you know the meaning of education? According to Wikipedia, Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Educational methods include teaching, training, storytelling, discussion and directed research. From the definition of education I think you should understand that school is not meant for learning courses alone, school is a place where we acquire knowledge, beliefs and habit.... What habit is the school management teaching hundreds of students watching the barbaric/destructive attitude? To be destructive? Or to be mean to your fellow human? Have you ever noticed that we Nigerians don't have good manners/behavior, have you ever wondered why we can be so mean to one another? Have you ever wondered why a new government start demolishing structures erected by the past administration because of their personal satisfaction? |

Truth is that most people who are angered by this situation are just being unnecessarily sentimental. Most schools if not all allow phones in school. What the students/parents are to do is to hand it over to their teachers or school authority when they get to school premises and take it back on their way home. However you find students still sneak phones in without supervision and cause distractions and sometimes harm to themselves and colleagues. In many cases, many parents barely have phones for themselves let alone a spare for their wards. Hence they are not aware that their kids have phones not to talk about bringing it to school despite several warnings. Kennyideal: School rules are school rules that needs to be adhered......i see nothing wrong with it as long as the students are aware of it beforehand. ...
On the other hand, the world is becoming strange and more wicked as the day goes by... Parents now need buy mobile phones for their children in order to know their whereabouts. . So I'll also say, the school rules needs to be adjusted in this modern era of kidnapping and all sort....
My suggestion is that the school should at least accept "Torchlight" phones only in the school premises so it doesn't distract the students.
Thank You! |

Go back to my initial response to you. Stop with the rant. frowland: You missed the point. I have the right to criticize a law. You said its government school right? So it's of course open for public criticism or are you a dictator? I did not comment on whether the kids broke the law or not, my position is simple; Parents should be able to know their wards location at ALL time. The law is old and should be reviewed just like every other archaic laws in this country. |

When you all are online you are always quick to assume your freedom of speech gives you more sense than others. Do you genuinely think this was the first resort of the school authorities? Do you think there would not have been days where those phones were seized and returned? The event in question happened during assembly meaning all authority in the school must have been aware yet they have support. All of them can’t be insane na if they weren’t sure they’d be able to defend the decision. Glorylynn: Only in Nigeria will such a thing happen, this is a total display of madness and it shows how uncivilized the teacher and the school management is, watching the tape I felt like I was back in the ’90s, how will someone in his right state of mind make such judgment, even if the school has rules and regulations there should be a better way to handle this situation, I am short of words this is barbaric and a total display of frustration! |

From experience, some parents don’t even know their children have phones. Wuno29: I don't just understand some people, the school says they don't allow phones, I believe all this have been made known to the students or even there parents before enrollment. I bet some of the parents don't even know there child go with phone to school. Okay let's say the teacher seized them, I know students they'll definitely look for a way to break into that office just to get their phones back, so it's better to destroy them. If you can't yield to instructions you leave. |

Firstly, yes they are old school institutions. But all institutions have their rules and this here has happened accordingly. Secondly you knowing that govt schools here are old fashioned could have avoided the unnecessary rant that is now not related to the issue at hand. Knowing full well that the school in question is a public school. frowland: Lol, sorry but Nigeria's government schools can be categorized as a stone age institution, so am not surprised at all. |

In hopes that you are actually being objective albeit to a limited knowledge. I teach in a government school and the pta meets at least 4 times a term. One of the directives given by government which is in turn relayed to the parents Is that phones are prohibited on school premises for students. Where such is found the phone confiscated, thrown into water and removed only at the close of work for the day for the student to take home. In addition however on our own we advise the parents to tell the students to drop their phones with the teacher or vp once they get to school. That way whatever monitoring you want to do can be done without causing distractions for your kid and others. frowland: Sorry, it's not my child and yes that is what PTA is there for! Schools dont make rules without the input of the parents. Bet you have one right? ..and ehm, the kids are evolving and adapting to the new society, while their parents and the school are still living in stone age. I bet they will also use 4 figure table when writing exams?
Did the kids break the school rule? Yes Is the rule archaic? A resounding yes. |

I wonder how much they’d have paid Barcelona to throw away a chance at making history and instead going into history for the wrong reason(going out of the competition twice, in successive years despite having a 3 goal lead) quickly: Don’t mind them the criminal minded will see everything with criminal eyes.
If you played soccer on an amateur level you know very well that a team with less talented players can win a talented team.
That’s y they say football is not mathematics.
A David can beat a giant Goliath
Watford won due to luck and it happens.
Oyinbos have a lot more incorrigible and ethical ppl compared to Nigeria. If they find betting is manipulating football scores.
Bbc or some criminal investigator would have uncovered it and they can ban / stop football betting because it is eating of football.
What is going on now is a scam by some lowlife.
Some times are guesses.
Liverpool beat Barcelona-simple. Barcelona one of the richest clubs in the world. They will Not be cheated by some match fixing. |

You seem to be very intelligent on this topic. There’s this question that’s been bothering me since I was a child. I played street soccer as a kid. Just ‘sets’ mostly and almost every Saturday morning, we see a seemingly good player miss that Yakubu like chance. No money involved. Please explain why they missed and why yakubu’s was special. RighteousI: So you guys believe that Liverpool's miraculous come back against Barcelona in the champions League last season. You must be a goat to believe that it was not fixed. Fixing a football match is simple, just tell the strikers not to score, tell them to play weak shot to the goalkeeper even if they are one on one with the goal keeper. Then tell the defenders not to jump high enough to defend aerial balls. And that was what Barcelona did against Liverpool in the second leg. Messi and Suarez had several one on ones with the Liverpool goalkeeper but they kept passing the ball to him instead of firing hot shot to the ceiling of the net. Also the Barcelona defender deliberately did not mark wijnaldum enough which made him to score that header.
What of yakubu aiyegbeni and sani kaita in the 2010 world cup? Do you believe that sani kaita's red card was an accident? Or do believe that even your grandmother will not have scored that yakubu miss against South Korea. Yakubu deliberately miss that chance, was it not easier to score than to miss. That's fixing for you.
Now that's just football which is not even a mafia sport, don't let me get into boxing which is a mafia and gangster sport. |
