I'm sure many of the people here have driven by on Third Mainland Bridge while the children take canoes to school without batting an eyelid, but because it's on BBC it becomes an issue?

What is wrong in taking a canoe if that is the only means available to get to school? Why not recognise the determination to go to school despite the odds?

In my opinion, this is a classic case of excellent risk management. The risk from falling into the lagoon from a canoe is much less than that you face from swimming across it everyday, with all the pollutants in the water. Those kids have exhibited excellent risk management skills in that picture.  

The response should be - how do we improve things from this state? And it's not necessarily about 'building roads' or 'buying buses' - simply providing cheap life jackets might be what would be the most cost effective way to improve the safety of these kids.

If you really even wanted to understand the motive, you would go to the BBC site, read the attached message on them and then on the hundreds of other pictures from around the world on similar. Like I said, remove your SELF from this, and if you still feel there is some HIDDEN motive, then best you email the BBC to ask. Rather than come in here to FUME about pictures on the internet, and then pretend you have no idea what you want to believe of them.

Lola Akinmade took those pictures for BBC because he knew what they wanted to see- the embarrasing part about Nigeria. Look, I agree with you that if that will make our leaders sit up, then its good.

But please understand that the economy does not grow on bad press alone- 419, kidnapping, armed robbery etc. It will be good to also hear many of the good things happening in Nigeria once in a while in Nigeria. If for nothing, it will help investors to know that Nigeria is not all that a bad place. It can be good for investment. That is what is going to help us in nigeria, not reliance on the Godforsaken leaders that we have.

China and India have as many poverty and vices as we do, but they have been able to convince the world that their countries are a good place for foreign investment.

You want to tell the truth? Really tell it like you see it. Talk about the good too, and you will be doing that. Geez!

if yo went to a proper school and you have TVs in the zoo you live, you will know Nigeria is doing better economically than the countries you listed. and moreover, Nigeria has never been tagged a developed country, what u see in the picture is not uncommon in this part of the world.
