In OOP objects are not key/value pairs . It is JavaScript that give you that impression.

Any key/value pair is a Map. we have different types of Map

TreeMap
HashMap
LinkedHashMap

Just see objects as a group of variables that are related together with methods to work on them. That’s the foundation of object oriented programming . Hash maps are just like array but with named indexes. I think javascript objects acts like hash maps and also like objects ( in the real sense of objects ie a group of related variables and functions to manipulate them).

You can google objects in programming in general to understand more.

Currently going through Grokking algorithms and it defines hashmap as key/value pairs but isn't that the same as object are they the same thing or what's the difference between the two

I've never been so confused. I don't feel confident entering the job market with just these:

CSS,
JavaScript,
React,
Typescript,
ExpressJs,
NodeJs,
MongoDb
MySQL

I need a good backend tech to add to this stack and I've drilled it down to the trio of Java, Python and PHP.

The reason I need a backend language to add to aforementioned is:

1. To stand out from all the average developers competing with me in the job market.

2. To get good in data structures and algorithms as I don't trust JavaScript to suffice in this aspect.

3. To add to Nodejs when applying to junior jobs locally and abroad.

4. Something to use on side freelance projects while looking for a job.

tbh I don't really know what to tag you i mean all those technologies in such short time it's either you're a content creator or you're just exceptional either way goodluck

ok so far I've learned html css and JavaScript

currently following bob ziroll's react course for beginners and I'm 8 hours deep in a 12 hours course

learned
- jsx,
- conditional rendering,
- state and props,
- custom components,
- forms...

short term goal - finishing bob ziroll's react course

mid term goal - completing fullstackopen a free course by university of helsinki in Finland.
where I can learn React, Redux, Node.js, MongoDB, GraphQL and TypeScript in one go!

long term goal - getting a job, helping others on their coding journey and most importantly traveling the world.


projects:

difficulty level AI (logic) - difficulty levels for my tic-tac-toe project. It has two levels

easy - AI plays at random
medium - AI tries it's best to stop the user for winning but can still be beaten

I'm proud of this because it's not a code snippet I can just copy from somewhere but a logic I had to come up with myself and it took a while to get right.

Library project (JavaScript) -
takes parameters from an input and adds the book to the library where it can be updated, deleted and change it's read status. basically a simple CRUD app.

Etch-a-sketch (DOM manipulation) - Desktop only since mobile doesn't have a hover state. The user can draw different stuff by painting over multiple square boxes
the color of the pen can be changed as well as the size of the boxes. it also has multiple modes.

Dog website (API) - desktop only used it to practice fetching from an API and intersection observer API
- has slide in effect when the contents comes into view and each images is fetched from an API.

That's life, that shouldn't deter you, it should drive you to upgrade your knowledge. If you study for 3 months, 4 hours daily, you can acquire a lot. 4 hours is not a lot.

My colleague is American, he earns way more than me, but I do most of the job, he codes too but na me dey fix most of the bugs because of experience. Sometimes it's luck also, sometimes life is not fair.

I do plan to keep learning.

As you said it's luck and at the same time one needs the skills for there to be luck in first place.

Though it keeps getting harder to learn each day
my laptop is starting to show it's age and the battery is completely run down

Yea people are still getting jobs but mostly does with connections the rest are just plain luck

The thing is scary and discouraging especially for us that is still learning

i mean between seasoned dev and newcomer the choice for who to hire is pretty clear

And here i was planning to take my time learning, i even planned on taking a free computer science course online that will take me 2years to complete if i'm serious. so as to make myself irresistable

You're on the right track also you been a fast learner and having unlimited wifi i believe you can and will definately make it. Goodluck

Lol! Good luck at that bro. Some do it for the money. Others for the passion. Both are valid reasons. People driven by passion also face challenges, not like it's particularly easy. So yeah, here's rooting for you and wishing you all the best.

Side note: Most people doing for passion aren't looking to work for FAANG. They do it for the love of problem solving. That's why you can have a Teamviewer that allows you remotely access your PC for a fee and Rustdesk that allows you do the same for free. Cisco Call Manager charges millions for their Business Telephony solution while FreePBX gives you the same functionality for free. It's fine to chase money. It's fine to chase passion. I don't really get you f*ck you invective lobbed at proponents of passion

Poco f3 check the specs out yourself its around 200k and better than all other phones in its price range.

Will get myself a high end pc for my web development, a mid-range phone,a good power supply and data
i'm currently using a low end pc and phone and about 10gb per month.

-but you must have determination,
there's no hand-holding involved you'll have to google for stuffs they're will themselves give you links to articles to read up

if you a stuck with a topic you are free to move to the next one


it self-paced so if you're not serious you'll easily drop it

its mostly reading although its sometimes ask you to a video on something

its project based so you built projects after every lesson

everything depends on you make your research on it if it will fit you

and on resources it always link to other sources that compliment each lesson

there's no time-based exercise so its all up to you
