Dubai has been dubbed the city of light but it seems Osun is catching up to that name with the on-going illuminate Osun project which is turning the city into a beauty at night.

An Amiloaded source, who recently visited the Alekuwodo-Olaiya Junction to Gbongan Road in the Osun State Capital, Osogbo reports, that the illuminate Osun project initiative is gradually turning nightlife in the state into a thrilling experience.

The project was one of the measures to tackle the rise of crime in the state. Security vehicles and gadgets were donated to the police while the illuminate Osun project was expected to deter criminals with lighting up of the nooks and crannies of the state.

Apart from the security benefit of the project, the beauty it brings to the state is also overwhelming. Commuters and drivers can move the length with ease with good visibility.

Governor Rauf Aregbesola is gradually turning the state of Osun into a Mega City.

CultureRe: Oluwo Akanbi Blames Nigeria's Economic Crisis On Idol Worship by tola268: 10:37am On Jul 19, 2016
princey83:
The Oluwo of Iwo land, Oba AbdulRasheed Akanbi, has blamed the economic crisis facing the nation on his colleagues (monarchs), who he accused of worshiping idols instead of God Almighty.
Oba Akanbi, who said this in an interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday, stated that the current economic crisis facing Nigeria was more of a spiritual problem.

The Oluwo said God told him that the suffering confronting Nigerians was as a result of idol worshipping allegedly practised by many monarchs in the country.

“God himself told me to check the cause of Nigeria’s problem in the books of Kings in the Bible. I am a Muslim and this is not in the Quran; so God asked me to check it in the Bible and read how God punished Israelites with famine and sword whenever any of their kings turned to idol worshiping.

“God said this is what is happening in Nigeria now because many kings are into idol worshiping. That is why I want the President to invite all monarchs in Nigeria to a meeting and ask everyone of us to renounce idol worshiping.”

“I am not into idol worshiping and I will never go into it. God has given me authority; when I say a thing, it happens because of the authority God has given me.”
The Oluwo warned that God would begin to punish any recalcitrant king, saying such could be visited with death or could be turned into animals, like King Nebuchadnezzar in the Bible.

Oba Akanbi, who said all monarchs were occupying their stools as representatives of God, added that engaging in idol worshiping was tantamount to denigrating the name of God, who enthroned them.
He said idol worshiping was the reason monarchs were no longer accorded the kind of respect they naturally deserved.

“The reason spiritual leaders such as Pastor ( E.A) Adeboye and Bishop ( David) Oyedepo are far more respected than many monarchs is because they stand for God and do not worship idol,” he added.

The monarch appealed to President Muhammadu Buahari to invite all monarchs in the country to a meeting and urge them to renounce idol worshiping, saying the nation would begin to experience a turnaround the moment that was done.

The outgoing United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle, has commended EFCC Acting Chairman Ibrahim Magu for bringing vigour to the anti-corruption fight in the country.
A statement issued by Mr Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, on Friday in Abuja, said that the departing envoy gave the commendation when Magu, visited him in his office to bid him farewell.
The statement quoted Entwistle as saying that the best part of his time in Nigeria was strengthening cooperation with law enforcement agencies, especially the EFCC.
“It is in our interest to see Nigerian law enforcement capacity grow. It is not enough to complain about things.
“We have to help our friends; I am proud of the EFCC and privileged to be of some help,’’ Entwistle was quoted as saying.
The statement added that the envoy expressed delight that President Muhammadu Buhari had already asked the National Assembly to confirm the appointment of the EFCC Chairman and wished him well.
It quoted the EFCC boss as saying: “It is significant that the envoy is leaving at a time the commission is having its best relationship with the U.S”.
Magu, the statement further said, thanked the envoy for his support and cooperation and urged him to continue being Nigerian`s ambassador as he leaves for his country.
He also urged Entwistle to continue monitoring his performance as EFCC chairman and assured the envoy that he would not compromise his integrity in the anti-graft war.

Giving states more bail out is like waste of
resources. What this translate to is more cash in
the hands of the few privilege politicians. The
rate at which these funds are being diverted is
alarming and federal government is not
concerned. Look at osun state for instance,
workers are still being owed up to six months
while medical doctors have not collected salary
since september, 2015. We need proactive
government not these parasites we have on ground
Well said. The Federal Government should find alternative ways of helping states workers and pensioners getting their salaries and gratuity. Giving state governors relief bailout for workers will not solve the problem at all, some governors vows that whatever amount come from Fed. Govt. will not be used for salary but for project where they will be sharing percentages as their national cake, osun state is an example. If Fed. Govt. wanted to relieve state workers and pensioners, Govt. must set up a committee from Federal level to monitor each Accountant General of the states to pay workers and pensioners salaries

PoliticsRe: Unpaid Salaries: FG Yet To Receive Fresh Bailout Request From States-the Punch by tola268: 1:42pm On Mar 27, 2016
HungerBAD:
The Federal Government has yet to receive any formal request for fresh bailout from any state government, SUNDAY PUNCH has learnt.

Findings by our correspondent from top government officials at the Ministry of Finance on Saturday revealed that since the last bailout exercise where about 19 states got a total of about N348.6bn, no state has made any fresh request for bailout.

There had been insinuations that the harsh economic condition, which was caused by the massive drop in revenue, might force some states to seek bailout from the government.

President Muhammadu Buhari had said in his remarks at the second National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja that 27 states were finding it difficult to pay salaries of their workers.

Buhari, while making a veiled reference to the unfavourable economic situation in the country, which he said the administration was battling to stabilise, had said, “The fall of oil prices after Nigeria has made itself a mono economy is a disaster.

“I wonder why people could not believe that in Nigeria about 27 out of the 36 states have difficulties in paying basic salaries of their workers.”

Top officials in the finance ministry confided in our correspondent that since the states were given bailout about six months ago, it would be difficult for the Federal Government to listen to fresh requests from them.

One of the officials said it would take about 20 years for some of the states to fully repay the recent bailout that was given to them by the Federal Government.

The official said, “We all know that the economy is in a precarious situation and there is nothing we can do about it now but to think of innovative ways of meeting our problems.

“The thinking here is that rather than providing bailout, there is a need for us to assist the states by raising their internally generated revenue which is more sustainable.”

When contacted, the Media Adviser to the Minister of Finance, Mr Festus Akanbi, confirmed to our correspondent in a telephone interview that the ministry had yet to receive any fresh request for bailout from state governments.

He said, “We are aware that we are in a critical period and we are working seriously to address the problems facing the economy. Officially, no state has approached us for bailout.”

The states that benefited from the bailout fund, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria are Abia (N14.152bn), Adamawa (N2.378bn), Bauchi (N8.60bn), Bayelsa (N12.85bn), Benue (N28.013bn) Borno (N7.680bn), Cross River (N7.856bn), Delta (N10.036bn), Ebonyi (N4.063bn), Edo (N3.167bn), Ekiti (N9.604bn), and Enugu (N4.207bn).

Also among the states are Gombe (N16.459bn), Imo (N26.806bn), Katsina (N3.304bn), Kebbi (N0.690bn), Kogi (N50.842bn),Kwara (N4.320bn) and Nasarawa (N8.317bn).

Others are Niger (N4.306bn), Ogun (N19.00bn), Ondo (N14.686bn), Osun (N34.988bn),Oyo (N26.606bn), Plateau (N5.357bn), Sokoto
(N10.093bn) and Zamfara (N10.02bn).

http://www.punchng.com/unpaid-salaries-fg-yet-to-receive-fresh-bailout-request-from-states/
We commend President Buari when the bailout money was given to states to pay their outstanding salaries of workers and pensioners but we were disappointed for the failure of Federal Government to monitor the money. Some State governors diverted the money to projects because of their selfisness to get rebate of 20%, 30%, 50% even 100% or 200% in some. By the time this regime came we thought its govt. of masses but it failed for lack of monitoring bailout money. The workers and pensioners were not paid at all from bailout money in some states e.g. Osun state. The governor is now hammering taxes on the citizens of the state to increase IGR to pay workers, therefore he add more to the suffering of masses. Masses are dying because of poverty caused by governors in society. The Federal Government need to set up a committee to find out how bailout money was spent and indict the governors who did not follow the directive of Fed. Govt. on bailout money spending
