PoliticsRe: Petition Against Saraki's Wife: Our Signatures Were Forged-pdp by tola268: 7:01am On Jul 28, 2015
NgeneUkwenu:
BUJA–THE Kwara State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Monday, alleged that its members’ signatures were forged in the petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC against Mrs Toyin Saraki.
Speaking in Abuja, through its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Olawoye, the party insisted that its members were not privy to the alleged petition against the wife of the Senate President.
Olawoye said neither him nor PDP had anything to do with the petition accusing Toyin of money laundering as the first lady of Kwara State.

He added that his signature on the petition was forged, while the authorship credited to PDP was pure impersonation.
Olawoye disclosed that PDP in the state called an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss the forgery and fashion ways out, on how to redress the situation.

The party spokesperson stated that it was high time the party tamed the monster of forgery and impersonation that certain people are always dragging it into, in the politics of the state, adding that the current situation was the second time such would be rearing its head.

Quoting Olawoye:” I have nothing to do with the petition. You know over time, I have built myself certain level of reputation because I am almost 30 years in the business of politicking. They just wanted to use a credible name, that is the truth and nothing but the truth. What happened is that there are some people in the corner of their room who wrote the petition and put my name on it and the media bought it.

There was never any time as the publicity secretary of the party that I endorsed or authorised that any petition should be sent to EFCC. That was not the first time they would write, there was a time they wrote that our party and particularly me as the spokesperson wrote that the governor of Kwara State used only N1.5 billion of the package from the federal government for salaries and carted away about N2 billion. “Then I decided to allow sleeping dog lie but now that they are doing it again, it is time for me to react. Media managers should try to authenticate sources of information and clear with such sources before using such information. When names are mentioned, media houses should verify with such persons to get to the heart of the matter truthfully.
“I am saying emphatically that PDP and I have nothing to do with this petition. There could be people with scores to settle with the senate president or his family and writing in a corner against them, but for us in PDP in Kwara, we consider as golden, politics without bitterness and we believe that there is no permanent enemy in politics.

“Even in Nigerian politics, you can see that there is no permanent enemy again. When it is time for us to go out as a credible opposition to this government, we would come out. When the government is taking anti-developmental steps, we would come out against them but we won’t malign anyone’s character and we won’t allow anyone to use our names to damage anyone. When you have the courage to write such petition, you should have the bravery and audacity to stand by it.
” This morning the caucus of the party is meeting to fish out the writer and decide what to do about him”.

KingKonga:
Hundreds of candidates who sat for the May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination may not have their results released in the next two weeks, the West African Examinations Council has announced.

No fewer than 19 states of the federation owe the council about N4bn examination registration fees.

The WAEC Head of National Office, Lagos, Mr. Charles Eguridu, announced this on Monday at a briefing in Lagos.

He, however, failed to make public the affected states.

Eguridu said, “A total number of 19 states in the country owe the Council in respect of entry fees for state government sponsored candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE. Some states also still owe the Council registration fees for the May/June 2014 WASSCE.

“We have written to the affected state governments without any response. The poor response of the debtor states is threatening the smooth operations of the Council.

“We, therefore, want to publicly plead with the affected states to off-set the registration fees of their candidates as soon as possible, as we cannot guarantee that the results of their candidates for the May/June 2015 will be released along with others.”

Some State Governors are the people moving our country Nigeria backward, all Nigerians need to wake up to eradicate election of Governors, instead we can allow president to select soul administrator to man the state, if an administrator is failed to perform such administrator can be changed with immediate effect. The rigidity of Governors in office for 4years with uncivilize constitution make them behave abnormally and they tend to embezzle the resources of the state

■The multi-billion dollar terror fund link
■ $40,000 cash, 3 guns, travel documents recovered in DSS search

FROM ADE ALADE, ABUJA

Contrary to insinuations that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the arrest of former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki because he was the Army officer who led soldiers to arrest him (Buhari) on the day he was overthrown as military Head of State in August 1985, facts emerging from the security circle indicate that the retired Army Colonel is wanted in connection with multi-billion dollar funds domiciled in his office as NSA.

Between Thursday evening and 6pm yesterday (Friday), Department of State Security Service (DSS) operatives had been searching for Dasuki in his Abuja and Sokoto homes. Though, he was believed to be in his Abuja home. He eventually allowed the DSS detectives to enter his house to execute a search warrant. At the end of the search, it was learnt that items recovered from the house included $40,000, three automatic rifles and his travel documents. The operatives thereafter vacated the house.

It was however gathered that all funds budgeted for the war against Boko Haram terror and other security issues were all domiciled in the office of Dasuki as NSA. There are allegations that some of the huge funds were diverted for some extraneous purposes rather than the prosecution of the war against terror.

It was also learnt that defence contracts, including purchase of arms and ammunition that used to be under the Ministry of Defence, were taken over by Dasuki. He dominated the environment, so much so that the Ministry of Defence was no longer in the know about these transactions as they were fully taken over by the office of the NSA.

With huge funds under his control, Service Chiefs and other security chiefs also began reporting to Dasuki, it is alleged.

Saturday Sun further gathered that the disbursement of over $3 billion USD already expended in the fight against Boko Haram, was presided over by Dasuki. At a point in time, the funds were also allegedly used to finance the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) then especially during the electioneering campaign. Inside sources also say that the immediate past Service Chiefs ought to be quizzed because they also were parties to the disbursement of the terror funds.

It was further gathered that under Dasuki, Ministry of Defence became toothless and a mere featherweight, a development that had never happened before in the nation’s history.

At a point, former Minister of Defence, Gen. Aliyu Gusau became disgruntled and wanted to go because Dasuki took over some of his duties. The former Minister felt he was just warming seat. Another reliable security source added that the invasion of Dasuki’s residence by DSS operatives has nothing to do with whether he led a team of soldiers to arrest Buhari on Sallah Day some years ago.

“Some people have been trying to portray Buhari as being unforgiving, vengeful, and that he never forgets. This is not true and has no connection with the effort to arrest the former ex-NSA. DDS invasion of Dasuki’s house has nothing to do with Buhari. Simply put, his travails with the DSS has to do with billions of terror funds he disbursed as NSA”, the source stressed.

I kind of agree with you. Seriously, the more you look at it the more you see how hopeless the situation is. Nigeria is simply too big and diverse for her own good. Available evidence have shown, that this marriage of unequal partners and perhaps force integration was to facilitate British administrative purposes. We have all seen the aftermath of this colonial error which was promoted after independence by our own ingenious compradoes. Our very security apparatus in the country have been compromised or failed depicting a clear case of a fail-state. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I doubt any of our forefathers would've agreed to this relationship if they knew Nigeria would turn out like this.

PoliticsRe: “you Mean I’m Now A Prisoner?” – Lamido Exclaims After Court Sends Him To Prison by tola268: 9:31am On Jul 10, 2015
midolian:
A former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, his two sons Aminu and Mustapha and one Aminu Wada Abubakar are to remain in Kano Central Prsion till September 28, 2015.

The quartet were remanded in prison custody Thursday morning by Justice Evelyn Anyadike of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano after they were docked on a 28-count charge of corruption and money laundering brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

They were arraigned alongside four companies where the Lamidos are believed to have interest.

The companies are Bamaina Holdings Limited, Bamiana Company Nigeria Limited, Bamaina Aluminum Limited and Speeds International Limited.

Lamido is said to have abused his position as governor of Jigawa State between 2007 and 2015, by awarding contracts to companies where he has interest, using his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha as front.

One of the counts in the charge reads, “That you Alhaji Sule Lamido (while being the Governor of Jigawa State, Nigeria), Aminu Sule Lamido, Mustapha Sule Lamido, Bamaina Holdings Limited, Bamaina Company Nigeria Limited and Speeds International Limited between 15th October and 18th December, 2008 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did convert an aggregate sum of N124, 649, 915 (One Hundred and Twenty Four Million, Six Hundred and Forty Nine Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifteen Naira) paid by Dantata & Sawoe Limited into the account of Speeds International Limited domiciled with an old generation Bank at Kano which fund you reasonably ought to have known to be proceeds of an unlawful act of Alhaji Sule Lamido who was a Public Officer within the meaning of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers as prescribed under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 ( as amended ) to wit; engaging in private business by a public officer, using the said company in which he is a director and a shareholder, and to whose account he is a signatory; with the aim of concealing the illicit origin of the said sum and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 14 (A) of the Money Laundering Act, 2004.”

However when the charges were read to the accused persons they pleaded not guilty.

Their counsel, Offiong Offiong, SAN told the court that he had filed application for bail and urged the court to consider granting the accused persons bail.

But prosecuting counsel, Chile Okoroma, requested for time to respond to the application.

He prayed the court to remand the accused persons in prison custody as the EFCC holding facilities in Abuja and Kano were already overstretched.

Justice Anyadike consequently remanded the accused persons in prison custody pending consideration of their bail application and adjourned to September 28, 2015.

After the judge’s pronouncement, a mild drama ensued between Lamido and the Deputy Chief Registrar of Federal High court, Barrister Solomon Akpedah.

Lamido was asked to proceed to board the waiting van taking him to Kano central prison when he exclaimed, “you mean I’m now a prisoner?!”.

Akpedah, however, replied that “no sir, you are not a prisoner”.

The arraignment of Lamido and his children was not without incident as an unruly crowd of supporters loyal to the former governor threatened to disrupt the court session.

It took reinforcement of the detachment of policemen at the court to maintain order.

The travails of the Lamidos began in 2012 when one of his sons, Aminu was arrested by Operatives of the EFCC at the Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano for failing to declare a sum of forty thousand United States Dollars ($40,000).

He was prosecuted and convicted with 50 percent of the undeclared sum forfeited to the Federal Government.

But the enquiries into the source of the funds led investigators into the closely guarded web of corruption and money laundering involving members of the former first family of Jigawa State and their cronies.

PoliticsRe: Heads To Roll As President's Anti-Corruption War Kicks Off by tola268: 9:10am On Jun 29, 2015
lolaxavier:
Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent statement that his government will ensure it retrieves looted funds kept in foreign banks, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina has confirmed the move.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Punch, Adesina said the search for the funds, which are kept in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, United States, France, Germany, British Virgin Islands, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg, will not be limited to these countries alone.

“The search will not only cover UK, US, Switzerland, Germany and other known havens for Nigerian looted funds but will cover everywhere under the sun. Anywhere and everywhere that the looted funds are, we have an assurance from the United States of America to assist us to repatriate these funds from anywhere under the sun,” he said.

According to report, the Federal Government’s investigation is meant to identify the individuals involved in corrupt practices and ascertain the sums of money involved with a view to retrieving them.

It was gathered that anti-corruption agencies play a vital role in the corruption fight, which is targeted at corrupt government officials in the recent past administration and their private sector collaborators, among others.

Adesina said that the Federal Government plans to engage the services of foreign private investigators who will in tracing and find looted funds belonging to the people of Nigeria.

“Everything that needs to be done to get all those funds repatriated will be done, including engaging private investigators,” the Presidential spokesperson said.

Buhari had lamented that the Goodluck Jonathan administration left behind a near empty treasury.

According to Adesina, the foreign search for looted funds that belong to Nigeria is part of the mandate Buhari was tasked with at the recent G7 summit in Germany.

He said, “when the President met with the G7, the promise that the American President gave him was that Nigeria should just provide all the facts, the figures, the statistics, including the banks.

“He promised that if Nigeria could make the information available, then the US will help in recovering the stolen funds.”

“The assurance the President has given is that within the next three months, we have to concentrate on getting those monies back to the government coffers.”

A few days ago, Buhari had said that his administration has received firm assurances of cooperation from the US and other countries in his bid to recover funds stolen from Nigeria.
