I could have said restructuring and not opting out will be the better option but the problems it has been facing are recurring problems and they don't seem to end soon.

In my opinion, I think the ECOWAS has failed to live up to her usefulness and it has become a sort of academic body without value. The body was meant for Economic Integration of West African States but has so far not meet her primary objective. The failure to achieve the uniformed currency system is a big blow.


Should Nigeria remain in ECOWAS? I don't see any value from the body that we keep pouring our scarce resources to fund. ECOWAS should be disbanded and a more focused body be established.

ECOWAS is just a body formed but refuses to live up to the motive like many other African bodies.
But no one can a correct sense of justice will blame the union for underachieving the aims. The fault is from the members.

In all sincerity, How many of the entities in the union are sincerely committed to the body?
Go to the member states, many of them have no presentable office or building for the union.

Talk about political instability, many, if not all of the members were ravaged by political instability at the beginning of the Establishment of this Union. How does one expect stability and continuity in structure of the body where the entropy of its contents is high.

Colonial history has also succeeded in creating division in the responsibility shown by the member states, this is more emphasized in the military intervention where francophone countries are interested in what happens in other francophone countries of the union, likewise the anglophones.
