Reports reaching us from our
political grapevine indicates that
a fresh plot to impeach President
Goodluck Jonathan might just
have begun as unconfirmed
reports have it that money is
about now being circulated in
the National assembly both
through bank accounts and
“Ghana must go” bags. The
unconfirmed report shows that
the G7 Governors camp, IBB, OBJ,
Atiku and some other persons
who have been kicking against
the second term ambition of
President Goodluck Jonathan
have been using large sums
money to buy over some
lawmakers in Aso Rock since this
morning, while the President’s
camp who got wind of the latest
action of the G7 Governors, we
hear, have also began to buy
over some lawmakers too in
order to have more of the
lawmakers vote if the looming
impeachment is carried out.

The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) on Friday said that the ‘Black-box’ of the crashed Associated Aviation Ltd., aircraft would be analysed in Nigeria.

Mr Tunji Oketunbi, the spokesman of AIB, in a telephone interview said that the ‘black box’ would be analysed at its Abuja office.

The Embraer-120 aircraft, with registration number 5N-BJY, was operated by Associated Airlines and was on a private charter flight from Lagos to Akure.

It crashed shortly after take-off at the local wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos.

The aircraft was said to have been carrying 20 persons, including the crew ,as well as the remains of the former governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Agagu.

Oketunbi said; “AIB will analyse the black box at its newly constructed accident investigation bureau office in Abuja.

“Though, the laboratory is yet to be inaugurated, we will take the black box there for analysis to ascertain the causes of Thursday’s accident and how we can prevent a future occurrence.

“However, if we encounter any challenges while doing that, we may contact our foreign partners for assistance,” he said.

The black box usually contains the conversation between pilots and control tower at the airport prior to any accident.

The black boxes of previous crashes were sent abroad for analyses, and delayed the release of the bureau’s reports on its findings. (NAN)

However, between 2007 and
2011, Nigeria did not record
any major plane crash for five
years. except for the charter
aircraft, Beechcraft 1900D,
which disappeared on March
15, 2008 on its way from
Lagos. The wreckage of the
plane was discovered six
months later with the corpses
of the three persons on
board.

It was learnt that when the
hoodlums were assisting in
the evacuation of the victims,
they allegedly searched the
victims’ pockets for money
and other valuable things.

President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered a thorough investigation into the Associated Airline plane crash by all relevant agencies with a view to determining the cause and taking further actions, as may become necessary.

In a statement Thrsday, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati quoted the President as saying “the President views the plane crash as most unfortunate and regrettable, given the concerted efforts of the Federal Government to enhance aviation safety in the country.

The statement reads: “President Goodluck Jonathan has received with great shock and sadness, news of the tragic airplane crash in Lagos earlier today.

“On behalf of himself, his family and the Federal Government, President Jonathan extends condolences to all families who lost members in the plane crash, and the government and people of Ondo State who have been plunged into sorrow yet again while preparing to lay their former governor to rest.

“The President feels and shares the grief and pain of the Agagu family as they grapple with the further loss of beloved relatives and associates so soon after losing their husband, father and mentor.

“He prays that God Almighty will comfort the Agagu family, as well as their relatives and friends, and grant them the divine grace they will undoubtedly require to overcome the trauma of this most trying time.

“President Jonathan views the plane crash as most unfortunate and regrettable, given the concerted efforts of the Federal Government to enhance aviation safety in the country.

“He has therefore ordered a thorough investigation of the crash by all relevant agencies with a view to determining the cause and taking further actions, as may become necessary” it concluded.
