This ur sarcasm is too expensive, a lot of people wont find it funny.

@post ACN is just the same type of wine in a different bottle

norrisman:
This is a good move to give our former governor a befitting burial. If it was that Akala, he would have released up to N300 million. Any decent burial in Nigeria costs a lot of money not to talk of that of a former governor. Remember things like MIC casket, aso-ebi, cows, foodstuffs e.t.c are very expensive and a very large turnout is to be expected. Also all roads into the town and to be family home will have to be graded and tarred by the family. This also costs a lot of money.

@Siena:
I think we should be honest when we do these comparisons and not compare "Apples and Oranges", lest we get lost in the middle confusion.

Let us take a basic yardstick: A Teacher in Nigeria and his counterpart in U.K.

I wish l could draw a "table" on NL so that l can draw immediate parallels between both but then we'll manage.

In Nigeria, he earns an average of #50,000:00  (or 208 GBP) (recent increase taken into consideration otherwise it was like 30K!). He pays tax at 21%, same average in the U.K (PAYE).
U.K counterpart earns on the average 500GBP ( #120,000:00).
This is the first indication of "Apples and Orange syndrome", when we compare the two!

His U.K counterpart, if married and the wife is not working, will be entitled to a whole bucket of "means-tested" benefits that could total over 500GBP in a month on the average (child benefit, early child care allowance, Back to school allowance, Job Seekers allowance, fuel allowance, e.t.c).
His Nigerian counterparts gets nada! Zilch!! that salary is what he has to share with his wife and children, no social safety net in anyway!

Now, if you total the "disposable income" of both families, you will get: Nigerian: #50,000 or 210 GBP.  British: about #250,000 or about 1,000 GBP

In Naira or Pounds, how can you compare both of them?

If both of them have 3children of both sexes, lets assume they live in a 3Bedroom house.
In Nigeria, that would cost you #500,000/year (or about 2,100 GBP).
In the U.K, it will cost about 600 x 12 = 7200GBP.

But the beauty of the U.K, when compared to Nigeria is that he can opt for a council house where he pays about 150GBP/month! Otherwise, he can file for "Housing Supplement" by which he contributes less that 10% or 60GBP to his house rent while the govt pays the rest!

The beauty of Nigeria, on the other hand is that the five of them in the family cannot even dare to dream of renting a 3-Bed house! Who dash monkey?
They would all be crowded in a Room and Parlor (doing fabulously for a teacher, by Naija standards! grin ) which costs on average, #250,000 annually! He gets no housing subsidy or Council flat from anywhere!

Now, this same Nigerian teacher has to feed 3kids and wife from that same salary (#600,000 a year, minus house rent of 250K = #350,000!)
He has to pay school fees for 3kids while his counterparts children enjoy "Free Education", the quality of which would cost #500,000 for each child/year in Nigeria while his British counterparts children enjoy free education, the "quality" of which is comparable to those that costs #500,000 per year, per child, in Nigeria! (the likes of British American, Corona College, American Int'l School, Lekki)

The Nigerian Teacher has to buy a Generator (I better-pass my Landlord! grin ), he has to keep fueling it almost 24/7 while his counterpart in the U.K enjoys uninterrupted power 24/7 and can therefore leverage on bulk-buying of foodstuffs in the home as it can be properly preserved!

Our Nigerian teacher must hop to the market every two days as he cannot preserve food in the house due to lack of stable electricity (cost of transport, lost man-hours spent on the road, rising cost of food, risk of commuting, e.t.c)

Anyone that has lived in U.K or Europe knows that food is the cheapest of all things you can buy (no wonder some of my Bros look like that "Obese Michelin Advert" after just 6months abroad! huh ).
Our Nigerian counterpart will have to fork-out close to 50% of his income on buying food and foodstuffs for his family! Just go to Ketu and see the cost of Tomatoes, Rice, Gari, yam, e.t.c
My Dad once told me a story of how the "whites/ Brits" were surprised that Nigerians eat Bokotoo  and Ponmo (Cow-leg, expensive big-man's food), something they throw away in the U.K and Cow-skin that has no nutrition at all!! Such is life!!

I dont want to go on and on but l went this far just to show that comparing "costs/pricing" of commodities in Nigeria with U.K and therefore concluding we are better-off. is like comparing Apples with oranges, THERE IS NO BASIS TO DO SO!

Remember, Mainland U.K does not even produce Crude Oil while Nigeria does!
If cheaper pump-price of Petrol is the only thing we can show for been a Nigerian, then let it be!

I bet if Nigerian Political class (of Looters) were like U.K Politicians without any source of crude oil, Brits would be paying 20GBP per liter of fuel (so they can have spare money to loot), thats how wicked our leaders are!.

The problem is NOT UNDER-PRICING OF Petroleum Products!
The problem is unbridled corruption and looting of our national wealth by a few people in Govt.

Eradicate these and you will see that the govt can even afford to put every school-age child on "Back To Education" allowance!.
Ask the Europeans how they do it. wink

May God bless you, i don't know how any sane mind can come up with the conclusion that an average Nigerian is better off than his counterpart in the UK. That's some warped comparison there.

We are not on the same level and we can never be as long as the Nigeria Politicians are working round the clock to loot the treasury dry and impoverish the masses while their UK counterparts are busy improving the standard of living of the average Brits even if it requires waging war on smaller countries to exploit and export their resources for their own people just to make their life better.

It doesn't take rocket science to know the kind of man GEJ really is (arss licker, weakling), the picture further confirms that. It shows madam Dame is the play maker and takes all decisions for Uncle Jonah.

His handling of the Nigerian situation is a good pointer to that.

Do I hear someone saying BAT is providing opposition to the ruling party? that person must be high on gutter water. Is it because he has the whole of lasgidi in his pocket? or the SW states he bought from some unscrupulous judges who have sold their conscience to the devil.

Tinubu is no saint than the other thieving PDP polticians, they are all birds of a feather. I'm sure this is the same justice he was avoiding when he sold out the CPC to lick GEJ arse during the presidential elections. I bet GEJ is never a man of his words.

Let him face true justice, at least that will be one less big thief and Nigeria can be better off for it.

PoliticsRe: Heavy Rain Floods Parts Of Lagos by tolu001: 1:20pm On Jul 11, 2011
This is a serious problem not just caused by the present administration but a result of many years of poor town planning system, poor drainage system, and lackadaisical  attitude of people to proper environmental sanitation.

The government on his part needs to clear the waterways and the blocked drainage, construct new and modern ones, make legislation on building plans more stringent, become more vigilant and strict with workers at the urban and regional town planning offices who give backdoor approvals to illegal construction when they in fact know such constructions are being done on waterways.

They need to provide waste bins at every junction in the state while such bins must be emptied on a regular basis. Commercial vehicle owners must be forced to put waste bin in the vehicles and the passengers encouraged to use such bins. Whoever failed to oblige whether the commercial bus driver or any member of the public should be made to pay a relatively huge amount of money as fine or spend some time in jail (between 1-3months) depending on the gravity of your offense.
PoliticsRe: 2 Soldiers, 18 Others Killed In Tiv/fulani Renewed Clash by tolu001: 11:32am On Jun 22, 2011
@mactunji
It is okay to be ignorant, but is condemnable to show it on such a platform. So Fulani are now jihadists (do you even know what Jihad means?). This is a battle for land, the TIV are farmers while the Fulani seek pasture for their cattle on the same land. The conflict arises when there is no government intervention to control where pasture should be and where farmlands are. The fact that most TIV are Cristians and Fulanis are Muslims is beside the point, the same happens in Hausa land as well.

Fulani's no know borders and rarely subject themselves to any form of authority other than that of their tribal chiefs. They would easily fight with Muslim farmers to get pasture for their Cattle. Once again it is a failure of government but people like you with your primitive UP! UP!! Jesus!!! mentality cannot comprehend that.
Please don't waste ur energy trying to educate some d.umb folks here on NL, it's going to cost an arm and a leg to get them educated and stop thinking with their backsides.

Most of them (like the slowpoke u are trying to educate) are products of a failed Educational system in Nigeria.

Oh! This is for you and the poster!

Just want to know, is it how short, your own short-sightedness is?

You are here accusing people of being short sighted and am telling you now, if anyone is short sighted on this N/L topic, it's you and your kind who could not see the trees from the forest!

Look man, he who dares wins!

This is why, our country is not moving ahead and no development in Nigeria because of lazy thinking and short sighted Leaders who think the way you do.

Leaders who dare not speculate in order to accumulate - who are frightened  of getting out of their comfort zone because of their inability to tackle the demands and challenges of modern politics and hence, push their people, backwards.

We do not need such intellectually lazy men to lead a progressive and ambitious country as Nigeria likewise, modern women do not need such men as husbands, too.  We need, strong and bold husbands not wimps!

Look man, wake up, wake up! If you're still living in the 1950's and 60's, there's no such thing as job for life in this modern times ok? You, who go about thinking  because, you got a 3 year contract as you said, you've got a job for life therefore, fold your arms, and sit on your lazy bum working 9 to 5 untill the contract runs off and then, begin to wonder what happened to you and your job.  How, silly!

Naturally, in such situ, it's obvious you'll head home to Nigeria, blaming everyone else except yourself for your sudden unemployment because, you failed to realise/foresee the furture that, whilst holding down a job these days, you continue to Network for a better and glorious future for your family!

Do we need to tell you that, do we?? That's how things are done in this modern times, ok!

So, when you get to that your Rwanda Contract, immediately you take your luggage to your room start making enquiries, searching and Networking for jobs further afields, ok??  Don't just sit on your lazy bum and relax, like some people do in Nigeria because, they have Abraham as father.

Now that you realise, how short sighted you are, go preach the news and tell others how things are done but remember, where you first heard it - in Nairaland! Cool Cool

Finally, I suggest you wake up and grab this marvelous breakthrough God has given you else, there will never be one like this for you, again! Hear it! Sad

PoliticsRe: Akala Hurriedly Withdrew N3b In Five Days – Ajimobi by tolu001: 6:35pm On Jun 09, 2011
Making alot of noise on the newspaper. Overblow little things and mislead the public to create a wrong impression. Is that the deal? Ajimobi I am asking you. This guy said that he will get Akala arrested with EFCC immediately he became governor what is he waiting for tiill this moment? They claimed they have evidence of Akala's lootings why have they not filed a petition with EFCC? most especially now that they are in govt which will easily afford them the opportunity to see a clearer picture of the proofs they claimed they had.

Well I can't be fooled. For the avoidance of doubt, for those who think Akala has eloped, I wonder where people manufacture all these fake news. The guy is in his Ibadan residence up till now not even in Ogbomosho (in Ibadan) hosting meetings and meetings with his crew, frequent visits to Abuja. Infact he has not travelled out of the country since may 29. The Akala that you claimed has eloped since May 28 celebrated his birthday on june 3 with many people in attendance in his Bodija residence. see linkhttp://www.tribune.com.ng/sun/index.php/news/4077-i-now-know-my-true-friends-alao-akala

So the fact that Ajimobi is yet to arrest him is Ajimobi's weakness. Akala is around in Ibadan in his house 5 mins drive away from the state secretariat. Lets keep watching with our eyes wide open

Now it is getting very interesting, You are asking Ajimobi to proscribe the Union just like Akala didhuh But when Akala took that action, everyone called for his head, , illiterate, dullard etc and this guy (Akala) said that it was the only way to curb their excesses,  . Now if Ajimobi who had brutally critized Akala for proscribing the Union then, now goes ahead and proscribe them (doing the same thing he openely criticized Akala for) then he should cover his face. In fact, in SHAME. I believe that Ajimobi would come up with a clean strategy I believe so.

He would talk to Tokyo, at least they are in good terms or in the alternative, mobilize the police to arrest auxillary and his boys under the excuse that they are the ones causing trouble, a tactical move to handicap Auxillary in favor of Tokyo (at least for his loyalty) to easily and peacefully take over. How can there be violence when Auxillary and his boys are in prison while Tokyo and his troupes are taking over. Although, violence will break out again after the release of Auxillary even if its after a year. That has been the case in Ibadan since way back

There are many ways to doing that. Its all poiltics even Akala that adopted proscription was still supporting Eleweomo underneath, U think politician would do anything on plain mind? He would lose his seat the following day the moment he stops playing according to the game. That is why I pity people who would just decide to trust this one and hate the other.
Firstly, I never for once criticize Akala for proscribing the union, I only criticized him for taking side with a faction of the NURTW (the auxiliary faction).

Meanwhile, whether u like it or not, Akala did what he felt was the best  then in order to protect his interest in the April polls which of course other politicians (the ACN) did the same by using the Tokyo faction to oppose him. With that, they successfully created a blazing fire of war between the two warring factions which cannot be quenched except a very drastic measure is taken.

Therefore, for the interest of peace in the state, the union needs to be banned (just like he did) while the government takes over the control of the motor parks. Because like u said, if Ajimobi decides to back the Tokyo faction either openly or discretely, he will not only be fueling the crisis but also guilty of the same offense that made Akala a public enemy and that would be the beginning of his undoing.

He has the to use the hammer of justice on both factions and be sincere with it, he needs to stand by his words. Oyo state needs an action governor
PoliticsRe: Ajimobi Bans NURTW Activities In Oyo State by tolu001: 10:24am On Jun 07, 2011
Ajimobi needs to adopt some of Fashola's policies here, he should establish an agency in form of LASMA to take over the control of the motor parks in Oyo state with stringent laws guiding their activities, rehabilitate some members of the NURTW that can be rehabilitated and employ such to work in the agency, take some to work on government farms and give them the necessary training, support and equipments needed on the farm.

The hardened criminals among them should be put in jail.

CrimeRe: NURTW Clash In Ibadan: 20 Dead, 33 Injured, 25 Arrested by tolu001: 10:18am On Jun 06, 2011
This is getting out of hand with the incessant public disturbances and outright waste of innocent lives by members of the NURTW.

I think the government of the day should proscribe the union in the interest of peace without favoring any faction like Akala did. They should take over the control of the motor parks with the revenue being generated for the government.

Their is too much money circulating at the parks that's why they are killing one another and disrupting public peace.

The government needs to take a drastic step to curb this menace and stop this wanton destruction of lives and properties.
