Remember N200m is not up to $150,000 any more ooo.
If you buy one house (a 4 bedroom flat bungalow or duplex) from the N200m or N150m, how much would remain assuming you decide to retire?
Remember that some people also borrowed to invest and they have to repay the loan from the gains.
We thank God for his mercies; N200m may sound huge but the actual value has dropped.
Are we not talking about 200m because naira value is seriously decimated?
I assume that someone with a hundred million and above surely have a house, a car for himself and another car for his wive.
If not, what is the essence of having all the millions in your account?

It is not only because of the retrospective application, which Taiwo Oyedele himself agrees to be unfair, unreasonable, punitive and insensitive.
It is also because they have increased the pre-existing CGT rate for companies from 10% to 30%; and then introduced PAYE tax rate on gains made by individuals, which may be as high as 24%. How does a a struggling investor risk his/her life savings to make N200m and then give govt N48m?
Mikeapollo, be far na, how can you say that an investor with 200m portfolio is a struggling investor?
Even with my about 150m, which was only possible because I sold a piece of landed property, I consider myself rich. In fact, I'm a multi-millionaire.
If you feel that you're a struggling investor with 200m, when then are you going to enjoy your life? With my present portfolio, even the dividends alone is enough for me to live like a king.
I give the glory to God Almighty.

Yes am aware. I used to believe Presco is a bigger and better palm oil producer. But, the way Okomu used to churn out dividend, I am beginning to have a re-think. The share price is even cheaper than Presco. I may have to convert my Presco to Okomu to get more dividend. Okomu doesn't waste time in releasing results. Presco will release results and it will take them months before they make payment undecided
I staked the same amount of money in both. Why not do the same, and watch 😁

Not like that. Even persons who are not related to me have been enjoying my money, even when I had much less than what I have now.
What I'm saying is that I would not continue to invest indefinitely.
I know I should continue to invest for the rest of my day sha, but there should be a limit.
Henceforth, I would be eating up all my dividends. Even if I have to be traveling to a Brazilian beach on vacation.

Funny enough some of us have been doing what u stated because we have other active income and only enjoy dividend from stock. We still reinvest over 50% of the dividend back with additional capital. We saw it like rent income some families have held as old as nigeria. That is why I said they will only see WHT for people like me.We are building generational wealth on ngx and making room for dividend to enjoy. If u have target of 100 million dividend and above for retirement. I believe u will be alright in nigeria if God gives u grace of good health
That is because you still want to continue to
expand your portfolio aggressively.
Hopefully, my dividends would be enough to finance my capital and recurrent expenditure.
But unlike you, why should I continue to invest for generations yet unborn?😁
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Toluway: 12:33pm On Sep 28, 2025
I wonder how many of us are contending that to keep reinvesting profits in order to escape the crushing taxes, after meeting the 150m/10m portfolio/gains threshold is a solution.
My question is, Is it not crazy after meting this threshold, only to keep reinvesting without withdrawing your gains for capital and recurrent expenditure?
After expending your physical and mental resources for years and having as much as 150m or more in your portfolio, yet, all you can do is, keep reinvesting! Reinvesting for whom? Do you have control over your life span? Why the hell were you investing in the first place? To invest in order to keep reinvesting?! Is this not a curse?
If I met this threshold, by Nigerian standard, I'm rich. So, how do I enjoy my money? Have I not been investing in order to enjoy the fruit of my labour?
We got to resist or find a way around this proposed obnoxious economic slavery.
I don't think leaving my money with the brokers and living in deprivation is the solution.

You want to wonder how some enlightened guys argue on issues of public interest.

Don't we all know that the rise of dollar/naira exchange rate from #480 to over #1700, now #1490 was as a result of the much hyped deregulation or liberalization of the foreign exchange market?
And that was the real value of the naira then, without borrowing billions of dollars to shore it up.
Have we forgotten that in a hurry?

If you recall the purpoted instruction from the Central Bank to the effect that UBA should not pay dividends till next year because of forbearance liability, you want to thank God that it would now pay a little.
If not that Nigerian investors are rugged, we would have exited the stock since last month. For instance, I still went ahead to buy over three hundred thousand units of the stock.

I rated them based on the associated risk in that order but I will implore you to do concentration for better outcomes.

Not a buy advise, DD please.
Why did you give excellent stock picks to a newbie on his request, and you're still saying it's not a buy advice,?
You mean you're not experienced enough to give a newbie stock picks? If you can surgest good picks as you've just done, why saying it's not a buy advice? I think you only need to add that he most invest on long term basis to get results because stock trading is not a get rich quickly project.

Extracted from GPT.

Here’s how it works under the Nigeria Tax Act (NTA), 2025, effective January 1, 2026 :

---

Key Takeaways:

1. Capital Gain Exemption Thresholds

If your proceeds from share disposal are less than ₦150 million, and your chargeable gain is ₦10 million or less, then the gain is exempt from capital gains tax (CGT) for that 12-month period .

2. Marginal Personal Income Tax Rates Apply

If your gain exceeds those thresholds, the gain would be taxed at your personal income tax rate, with a top marginal rate of 25% .

3. In Your Case – ₦1 Million Gain

₦1 million is well within the ₦10 million exemption threshold, and the proceeds are also far below ₦150 million. This means you would not pay any CGT or PIT on that gain.

---

Summary Table

Scenario Tax Payable

Gain: ₦1 million (below ₦10 million), proceeds < ₦150 million 0% — Exempt
Gain exceeding thresholds Personal income tax, up to 25% marginal rate.

From this expose and my layman's interpretation, less than #150m proceed threshold is exempted from CGT.
Is this not good for the stock market?
Am I mistaken?

This are not the class of workers I was talking. This ones fall under special salary structures. They still fall under minority in the wage thing. The ones I am talking about are the ones all over the ministries ,parastatals etc who are the majority. They collect salaries for doing nothing. They are the majority making it difficult to pay the ones that really add value well .They are the ones responsible in bloating wage bills and ghost workers
I agree with you absolutely.
This scenario has always constituted my personal worries.
I left the federal public service at the highest level of it's hierarchy, so I know what I'm talking about.
I have observed that generally, only a quarter of the members of staff do the work of a government department. This are the productive ones.
Most of the others are the ones going around gossipping, licking the boots of directors and very senior officers. And they are even better preferred by directors who love flattery and boot licking.
Before promotion exams, you see them going all over the place. They are the first to pass promotion exams.
It's so painful that the same crop of unproductive elements rise to become directors.
You will see ladies get to the office, open their laptops or handsets, and launch to the social media... Facebook, Instagram etc.
And when you give them something to do, after a few minutes, they would start taking permissions to go home and take care of their babies, or going to take their children from school.
The system is so annoying and you can do very little about it. And they always steal whatever comes their ways. Those in higher positions are always likely cheat to cart away what belongs to the junior ones.
And when it's come to going out for field assignments, which would involve money, you would see everybody prowling around the place.
And this same group, who would always escape writing field reports would always find themselves in the list.
To be frank, we don't need more than a quarter of the so called civil servants, who should be closely supervised.

I always stood up against the system. They tried to destroy me. I became a director by grace of God and they made me to Head servicom because they knew I would not compromise my principle and I would not be bringing money to the CEO.

For the public service to be productive, it should adopt the culture of the private sector.
Promotion should be based on productivity and the system of seniority should be abrogated.
So many times, I worked under morons and the only thing they know how to do is defend themselves whenever there are issues. Go to their tribalised directors and speaking hoaouosua.
Honestly, the system is annoying. Even though I was a part of it. They said I had no friends. How could they be my friends?
The only thing they scout for is money. Not interested in service at all!
