BusinessRe: Court Orders GTB To Pay customer's Stolen 5 Billion! by tonychristopher: 11:47am On May 19, 2015
gtb bank, yoruba bank, kalukalu bank..funny bank

how can bank allow such a huge withdrawal

weyreypey:
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Apo, Abuja, on Monday ordered Guaranty Trust Bank Plc to refund N5.3bn illegally withdrawn from the account of one its customers, Dr. Ted Edwards.

Justice Valentine Ashi, in his judgment, ordered that the N5.3bn should attract 10 per cent interest from Monday, when judgment was delivered, till the time the money was paid back to the owner.

The court also ordered that the money should attract another 21 per cent interest from December 12, 2014 when GTB allowed the illegal withdrawal, until the fund was eventually paid back to Edwards.

The judge, while reviewing the case in his judgment, held that the bank did not have any defence to its action of the withdrawal of the total sum of N5,240,516,186.21 from the customer’s account and thereby ordered the bank to pay the money to the owner through his Zenith Bank Plc account.

Edward, a lawyer of Edwards and Partners Law Firm, had initiated the suit, FCT/HC/CV/939/2015, in January 2015 following the alleged illegal withdrawal of the money on December 12, 2014.

The money was paid into the plaintiff’s law firm’s account with the GTB on January 2, 2014 by the Accountant-General of the Federation, Jonah Otunla.

The money was said to be for the settlement of a judgment got by his clients, Impecca Services Limited and His Royal Highness, Eze Ezekwo, against the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, as cost of consultancy services they rendered to the 774 local governments.

But in his judgment on Monday, Justice Ashi struck out the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Accountant General of the Federation, Minister of State for Finance, Anaocha Local Government Area, and the Incorporated Trustees of ALGON from the suit as defendants on the grounds that they were not necessary parties.

The plaintiff stated, in the suit’s originating processes, that shortly after the money was paid into his account on behalf of his clients, GTB made some disbursements from the account as directed, but that he was only informed on December 12 by an official of the bank that the Central Bank of Nigeria had withdrawn the N5.3bn.

He said that when he enquired from the bank why it made deduction from his account without his consent, he said GTB only insisted that the withdrawal was made in obedience to CBN directive, which it could not disobey.

Justice Ashi held in his judgment that GTB betrayed the banker-customer relationship between it and the plaintiff.

The judge held that it was wrong for GTB to have made withdrawal from the customer’s account without the customer’s knowledge and consent.

The judge held that GTB’s claim that it was helpless and that the withdrawal was at the instance of CBN was not tenable.

The plant named United Vehicle Assembly Limited (UVAL) will be part of Nigeria's robust automotive policy of making the nation a leading manufacturing hub, said officials from UVAL.

UVAL CEO Jacky Hathiramani said, "We are committed to contributing immensely to the development of the nation through this multi-billion investment. We have taken our growth commitment to a greater height in Nigeria and repositioned our brand by supporting the Nigeria dream."
The plant has employed engineering graduates from Nigerian universities and will continue to provide employment for locals.
In line with a commitment made in 2014 to produce vehicles locally, Kia Motors recently launched its made-in-Nigeria automobiles such as Kia Rio, Cerato, Optima, Sorento and Soul. By the end of 2015, the South Korean company will be producing all its flagship models, including sedans, sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and pick-ups in the West African nation.

Onyemenam, has denied embezzling N30 billion National Identity card fund. But his accusers are not letting off. They have further petitioned the country’s graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and asking that the presidency wades into the matter. They want the NIMC boss suspended.

But Onyemenam, a lawyer, is fighting back. In a media interaction in Abuja, he accused his detractors of mischievously twisting the facts to malign his reputation. The NIMC boss is being accused of misappropriation of funds and the wrongful dismissal of 406 staff.

He has denied this. “Embezzlement of N30 billion again is misunderstanding of the facts that have been interpreted to suit the presenter’s purpose. In September 2011, government approved N30.066 billion for the procurement of cards and the accelerated expansion of the back end. And within budgetary constraints, we are very proud of the support we have received,” an angry Onyemenam told the media.

PoliticsBuhari Government To Merge All These Agencies!!!- Iiedgenews.com by tonychristopher(op): 9:56am On May 18, 2015
To save cost, APC govt plans new role for NITDA, NCC, NIGCOMSAT, others

The incoming Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari government says that All these agencies will either be merged or have their status reduced

The incoming Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will tinker with the current status of the National information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), and the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), an authoritative insider in the APC Economic Think Tank has shared with IT Edge News.

All these agencies will either be merged or have their status reduced to no more than a department inside a ministry as part of the effort to drastically reduce the cost of governance, said the top APC economic strategist.

“There is no money. Cost saving has become imperative if the APC must fulfill its obligation to the Nigerian people.”

Another agency that will be affected is the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). The publicly owned broadcast organization will be merged with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria and Voice of Nigeria. All separate entities will be fused into the Federal Corporation Broadcasting of Nigeria as recommended more than three years ago by the Presidential Committee on the Rationalisation and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies.

I have come to realise that the greatest impediment is their ego and certificate and above all most of them even here in Nairaland stay with their parents and lack responsibility. I will advise them to leave their parents house, go to another part of town where they know less people, stay there, then hutsle

When hunger don beat them nobody go tell them to think, but they are dependent, at 30 you will still see a guy staying with his parent. that is a curse and you cant progress with that mentality

GO AND STAND UP...NO WONDE THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE IT IN LAGOS ARE IMMIGRANTS, COS THEY HAVE NO FALL BACK POSITION SO THEY MUST HUTSLE

LaurelP:
I am writing this article based on my experience here on Nairaland and other online forums, and also live experience. A lot of people have preached and continue to preach the message of self employment and setting up something no matter how small.
It is very glaring that unemployment is the no1 problem of youths in this country. Many are lying idle after years of graduation due to lack of jobs.

Some people have heed this advice and are doing business, while others continue to give various excuses why they cannot seem to venture into the world of business. Some of these excuses are voiced out, while others are hidden in subconscious of people.
My aim is to expose these excuses and myths, and tell you why they are not enough to stop anybody who truly wants to start.

1. I don't have capital to start: I think this is the greatest and most common excuse graduates give for not being self employed. But the problem is that most of them want to start big. They want to have about half a million before they start. The truth is you can start with anything you have, anything! Even N2000 can buy a bag of purewater, iceblock and transport you to a busy location where u can sell. Some graduates have much more than that, some have people who are ready to help them with money but prefer to wait for that big break which will never come.

2. Overbloated Ego: Most graduates will not say it but I think this is one of the greatest hindrances to starting a business. How can I a graduate be selling purewater and gala? How can I be cleaning people's house? How can I be washing clothes for my mate?
All this is a result of ego and pride. If you cannot humble yourself, then forget about doing business. Even if you start big, you will still serve customers.

3. What will people say? People will always talk. If you decide to be lazy they will talk, if you start small they will still talk. The best is to forget about peoples gossip and do what must be done. I run a home cleaning business and I serve many clients, some of them my mates. I need their money so I can't afford to listen to what people say. The funny thing is when you succeed they will say ur using Juju.

4. Will I succeed? Well, the only answer to this is "I don't know". In business, you can never be 100% sure if you will succeed. The most important thing is to START. Once you're sure that people need your product or service, start. If you wait your mind will start giving you excuses.

5. I want to start Big: I always advice people to start SMALL but dream BIG. Every business you know started small. Talk of Dangote, Jumia, Nairaland etc. Don't wait until you have a million naira. Once u can buy materials and move around, start. It is not compulsory to have an office or shop, it can come later.

6. I have a job: A person can run a business even when he's working on a job. You don't have to resign. There are many businesses one can run that doesn't require physical presence all the time. You can employ someone to represent you.

7. I'm waiting for the perfect time: There will never be a perfect time. Quit procrastination and start NOW. Do that research, meet that person, buy those materials, just start.

8. I want a fresh business idea: Nothing is new under the sun. There is always someone doing what you're doing. The key is to try and stand out from the crowd. Be different and people will patronise you.

9. I'm not qualified: Unless your business requires a special skill, there's nothing to worry about qualification. Most big names today had only basic education (Dangote)when they started their business. Some dropped out of school (Nairaland) while some started as students (Jobberman).

What excuses are hindering you from starting your business? Please share them let's talk about them.

A radio station urging the citizens to take up arms against the state in a country where there's government and laws is unacceptable and not surprising under the most divisive government ever. Well parade have change hand.
I am also against bloodshed but if they decide to leave...people shouldnt antagonise. Them

I blame Jonathan ! imagine he spent all these years empowering the eastern region instead of licking northern ass ! It imagine if he used the power to make sure more states are created in d east , better roads ,or even moving the seat of power to the east ( nobody should talk rubbish after all a northerner did it n nigeria didn't divide ) . Charity begins at home they say but Jonathan is so daft .

Yorubas don't have inferiority complex.. We don't attach to people to be somebody like the ibo do.
Where have you seen any Yoruba claiming the Itshekiri who speaks Yoruba + Edo languages or Olukumi speaking part of Anioma?
However, it is the ibo who are so desperate even when the Ika, Ukwuanis and Ikwere have repeated severally that they have no connection with you ibos, save for the igboid + edoid language they speak. Heck, these are people who has ancestral history as oppossed to the ibos who has none. These people even demonstrated where they stand by joining the Nigeria army to kill and flush out the ibos from Asaba and River state.
I know you're an enuani and like I said earlier, no one is stopping you people from joining your ibo brothers but if you try to claim any other land that aint yours, that Enuani community of yours will be wiped out like the ibos were flushed out of Porthacourt and killed at Asaba by the Ikweres/Nigeria army and Owa people/Nigeria army respectively!
You can go dig it up, little boy!
Yoruba man get mouth sha

@OP it is very sad and unfortunate that a brother (assuming you are) is far behind schedule and is holding to a thrashed position. Biafra is NOT an Igbo thing, it ia a collective aspiration of the people of Lower Niger- And it includes those that were in support of the movement in 1967 and those that never supported it before now but have willingly signed up after realising in a very hard way that the arrangement called Nigeria ia a fraud and has never cared for our well-being. Prior to this time, I was a Chief opponent of this Biafra/Lower Niger but it became clear that the mistake of 1967 by our fathers should not be repeated.

For the record, a Biafra/Lower Niger republic will see the different nations that makes up the independent republic to enjoy autonomy and it has been agreed and adopted that there shall be "Nothing like Minority". In other words, the numerically majority Igbos see the Urhobo as equal partner despite the numerical size. There is nothing like internal dominance.

The birth of this Lower Niger and the biafran vision is a welcomme development. I as an Ijaw see it as a patriotic dream that must be achieved. I am so optimistic that more than 90% of our people are ready for freedom

God Bless The Lower Niger
God Bless Biafra
you spoke well but urhobo and itshekiri will not be part of it

Don't get me wrong. I don't take side with the crowd in anything , whether you are an authority there or not , i stand objectively in everything in life, calling a spade a spade.

If i said you are wrong , know that you are wrong , and if i said that you are right, know that you are right whether i argue it or not cos i may decide not to waste time in any argument. You are right in this case , and i said so, except for the plagiarism.

Two weekends ago, I travelled to Kaduna and spent it with The Lions community Kaduna members. It was fun. Aside the pleasure, members were bringing their lions to me to "touch" and I spent time reverting those that had abused cooling system back to factory (reinstalling thermostat, reverting fans connection to factory, etc). It's over 2 weeks now. None called to complain lion has started overheating or something is wrong. Instead, the calls and messages have been, "thank you for I now enjoy truly lions fuel economy; thank you for I now enjoy the true power of the engine which was lacking before, etc.

The truth is, people really don't know what they do to these poor vehicles by abusing their cooling systems. A simple issue with cooling system which could be as minor as failed expansion bottle cover, they would remove and throw away thermostat and butcher factory fan connection. Some would go the extent of installing trailer radiator to make sure the temperature gauge remain at 0 degree Celsius no matter how hot ambient temperature is or car is driven. Thermostat is a component in engine cooling system, just like every other part that could fail. So I don't see why it is too much to replace a failed thermostat, rather than run the system without it, that is, if at all its the cause of the overheating in the First place (if truly the car is overheating or overheated).

Even a simple thing as running a cooling system on water "only" shortens sends these cooling systems to early grave, including the engines.

Tonychristopher, you can be ignorant in something, but gloating about it doesn't make it funny anymore. Aside that you are polluting the environment with your vehicle, intentionally, with your abused cooling system (rich running), you are simply telling God that you don't deserve that vehicle, for killing it softly with your very own hands.

I wanted to ignore this thread, but seeing someone took this thread to homepage changed that. This thread shouldn't have gone there, because its misleading. Notwithstanding, like I always say, "DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ!".

Ikenna
I love your analytical approach and intelligence..I must say . Now some people don't mind the rich running but mindful of the top and gasket been intact ..maybe for it to work

Now apart from thermostat are you okay with other types of tropicalization which I explained

Bro I dont think you are an authority here have u designed an. Engine
Kashif:
First of all, you cannot enlighten me, as you are devoid of inherent logic.

A fixed wing airplane and helicopter are both aircrafts, but they serve different purposes. Would you say a chopper sucks because it is slower, etc?

Think efficiency, cost, traction, take off; think FWD. Think performance, handling, stunt; think RWD. They both connect the engine to the wheels, but they deliver differently. If you know auto 101, this should not be tough to digest.
