Heroin produces a "downer" effect that rapidly induces a state of relaxation and euphoria (related to chemical changes in the pleasure centers of the brain). Like other opiates, heroin use blocks the brain's ability to perceive pain. Heroin abusers, particularly those with prior history of drug abuse, may initially be able to conceal signs and symptoms of their heroin use. Loved ones or co-workers may notice a number of signs of heroin use, which are visible during and after heroin consumption: Shortness of breath Dry mouth Constricted (small) pupils Sudden changes in behavior or actions Disorientation Cycles of hyper alertness followed by suddenly nodding off Droopy appearance, as if extremities are heavy The above signs are not unique to heroin abuse. More definitive warning signs of heroin abuse include possession of paraphernalia used to prepare, inject or consume heroin: Needles or syringes not used for other medical purposes Burned silver spoons Aluminum foil or gum wrappers with burn marks Missing shoelaces (used as a tie off for injection sites) Straws with burn marks Small plastic bags, with white powdery residue Water pipes or other pipe Behavioral signs of heroin abuse and addiction include: Lying or other deceptive behavior Avoiding eye contact, or distant field of vision Substantial increases in time spent sleeping Increase in slurred, garbled or incoherent speech Sudden worsening of performance in school or work, including expulsion or loss of jobs Decreasing attention to hygiene and physical appearance Loss of motivation and apathy toward future goals Withdrawal from friends and family, instead spending time with new friends with no natural tie Lack of interest in hobbies and favorite activities Repeatedly stealing or borrowing money from loved ones, or unexplained absence of valuables Hostile behaviors toward loved ones, including blaming them for withdrawal or broken commitments Regular comments indicating a decline in self esteem or worsening body image Wearing long pants or long sleeves to hide needle marks, even in very warm weather Users build tolerance to heroin, leading to increases in the frequency and quantity of heroin consumption. With growing tolerance, more definitive physical symptoms of heroin abuse and addiction emerge: Weight loss Runny nose (not explained by other illness or medical condition) Needle track marks visible on arms Infections or abscesses at injection site For women, loss of menstrual cycle (amenorrhea) Cuts, bruises or scabs from skin picking they should just die but they should make peace with GOD and may their soul rest in peace in advance |

A statement from Gen Buhari signed by his media aide, Shehu Garba. "The fraud called Boko Haram can be defeated by denying it a recruitment base," General Buhari told visiting leaders of Nassarawa State who came to congratulate him on his emergence as President-elect. No religion allows for the killing of children in school dormitory, in markets and places of worship. They have nothing to do with religion. They are terrorists and we are going to deal with them as they deal with terrorists anywhere," he announced. Buhari said he is greatly pained by the destruction of schools in the North-eastern part of the country, an action he said could deny thousands of youngsters access to education and a better future unless something was done urgently to avert this tragedy. "The worst thing anybody can do is to deny children access to education. That will be destructive to their lives and we are not going to allow that to happen," the President-elect assured. He announce that his government will help the states to get more money to improve infrastructure by ensuring that all federally collectible revenues are paid directly into the federation account and each tier of government given its due share. "As at now, the government does not even know how many revenue accounts it has. We will give all the tiers what is due to them but will hold them to be accountable as we would the federal government." Buhari while describing Nassarawa state as his own "political laboratory", meaning the only CPC-controlled state of the 36 others adjudged the experiment as having been a success. "From one state, I now have 22 political laboratories." He commended Governor Al-Makura for surviving his many impeachment plots, saying "without Nassarawa, there would not have been an APC." I'm sharing this because people in the media should be a little scared of what happened yesterday. If they can do this to AIT, they can come for the rest of us. And before you know it, we can no longer write what we want. I hope it doesn't come to that. A lawyer shares his opinion. Read below... Maybe I should attempt to open our eyes just a little to what is actually going on: 'Buhari bans AIT from covering his activities'. This is nothing for you to rejoice about that AIT sponsored hate campaign and so it's a good response. No! It isn't. It is just a true reflection of the 1984 hatred for critics and the press. Indeed, you may repackage a despot, but he is what he is. I laugh when I remember his words at Chatham house: "so I present to you, a former dictator and a 'born-again' democrat'. Like really? Do you realize that one Cardinal part of this democracy is the freedom of the press? Perhaps he understands the role of the media in bringing down GEJ and maybe scared of same. Let me take you back a little, do you know the APC legislators, last year sponsored a bill to control the press? to be specific, social media? Do you realize that severally as a dictator, Mr. President-Elect called the media, 'a distraction'. What then is the lesson? While I do not subscribe to ANY form of unprofessionalism in the media, this is democracy, you can sue for defamation, except of cos you think they are saying the truth. Further you could prosecute for sedition (that's what I'll do to Sahara reporters if I were GEJ). You do not blacklist the media. It only starts with AIT and then possibly it will spread to other channels. Then we would have a 'controlled media'. But then again, let this cloud that is gathered yield us some fruits, 'cos the NextGeneration is patiently waiting to kick all of you out. Just wait and see! If you rely only on Internet websites and on some Nigeria news media for information, you might get the impression that the Igbo are 8 ft tall; weigh 400 lbs; would break an iron rod on their knees; and would easily kill a tiger with their muscular hands. This is not true and never was. But to some Nigerians their reaction to an Igbo in position of power gives the impression that an Igbo can do anything that God can do. Consider the reactions to an Igbo presidency, to Okonjo-Iweala tenure as minister; to Diezani, etc. And to Army chief of Staff Ihejirika. The fear of Igbo domination is not a new fear and comes up even when there are no bases for it. There had not been an occasion when the Igbo dominated Nigeria or any part of Nigerian political or economic segment. NCNC was a political party that had significant Igbo membership but was not dominated by the Igbo, not in the sense of Yoruba in Action Group or Hausa/Fulani in NPC. There was powerful Yoruba presence in NCNC and with the alliance with NEPU significant Northern presence. One could not say the same for AG/UMBC alliance. Before the Civil War the Federal Government and Civil Service had significant Igbo presence but not a dominant position; not any more than the Yoruba or Hausa/Fulani. Even after one had classified all Easterners as Igbo. Even in Eastern Nigeria the dominant role was not true. There was a non Igbo government leader in Eastern Nigeria . There was never a non Yoruba leader in the West even though Midwestern Nigerians had minorities. There was never a non Hausa/Fulani Government Leader in the North even though there are many minority ethnic groups in the region. Why are the Igbo so feared? On the other hand there were many occasions when the Igbo had been marginalized. In the first 30 years after the Civil War there were no Igbo of any worthwhile rank in the Nigerian Armed Forces or police. Few headed any powerful ministries, or parastatals, or headed the civil services. The economy is now dominated by the Yoruba/Hausa/Fulani oligarchy and now one is complaining. After the indigenization decree nearly 60% of Nigerian economy was in the hands of Yoruba and there was no word from the Igbo or other Nigerians about domination. A review of the Federal Government foreign indebtedness from 1960-2007 shows that the East, especially the SE, was very poorly served. But all Nigerians paid for and are paying the loans. The only part of Nigerian life one would find Igbo domination is in the number of Nigerians who live outside their states of origin. There are more Igbo in this case than any other ethnic group. But these people moved on their own, are often engaged in petty trading or practicing some kind of trade funded by their sweat. There is no government handout involved and they do not work for any government. Why should anybody be envious? This essay was prompted by the insidious attacks on Chief of Staff Ihejirika. This writer had written in the past that non political appointments ought to be based solely on merits while political appointments would try to take into consideration the national character concept. I still hold this belief. But analyzing the recent army promotions and deployments, one sees that the national character concepts was very much in evidence. Could it be that in this instance the marginalization of the Igbo was not as obvious as in the past and therefore people are afraid that the Igbo might come back? There is nothing to fear. The Igbo had never dominated anything, are not planning to dominate anybody and would be unable to do so even if they tried. The Igbo is just like the rest of Nigerians. There are no 8 ft tall Igbo. http://kayodeogundamisi..com/2013/02/igbo-people-are-normal-people-and.html
