Health / Ultra-modern Mother & Child Hospital In Rivers: Wike’s Administration Legacy by TonyOputa(m): 10:27am On Jun 23, 2020
In 2015, Nigeria’s Infant Mortality rate was estimated at 78.7 deaths per 1000 live births. 2 years after that, Nigeria ranked No.9 on the list of countries with the highest rate of infant Mortality Rate. (CIA World Facts)

Infant mortality is the death of an infant before his or her first birthday. The infant mortality rate is the number of infant deaths for every 1,000 live births. (CDC.gov)

Aside from Infant Mortality, another area of concern is Maternal Mortality.

In 2015, Nigeria’s estimated maternal mortality ratio was over 800 maternal deaths per 100 000 live births, with approximately 58 000 maternal deaths during that year. By comparison, the total number of maternal deaths in 2015 in the 46 most developed countries was 1700, resulting in a maternal mortality ratio of 12 maternal deaths per 100 000 live births. In fact, a Nigerian woman has a 1 in 22 lifetime risk of dying during pregnancy, childbirth or postpartum/post-abortion; whereas in the most developed countries, the lifetime risk is 1 in 4900. (WHO.it)

A look at the statistics above shows that there is more to do as regards Mother and Child Care health.

Towards the end of the last administration, the State Government in an agreement with the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC planned on the Construction of a Mother and Child Hospital which was intended as a joint ownership between the State Government and the NDDC. Funds where said to have been released by the then government in power. However, the project was stalled and abandoned as NDDC failed on their part to provide its own counterpart funding.

With Gov. Wike coming to power in 2015, and with the many legal tussle that ensued till 2016, the Governor announced in the late part of 2016 that the State Government was cancelling its Joint Ownership Agreement with NDDC for their failure in paying their counterpart funds. He also stated that the State Government was taking over full funding of the project and the final tranche of payment for the completion of the project had been made to the contractor.

Due to the Governor’s desire to see to the speedily completion of the facility, Governor Wike also went on to release over 70 percent of the funding need for the purchase of equipment for the said Hospital.

The Ultra-modern Mother and Child Hospital in Port Harcourt is aimed at providing specialised services in the areas of Mother and Childcare. The magnitude of the facility is deliberately constructed to serve the need of the state in that regards.

Apart from the Ultra-modern Mother and Child Hospital, the NEW Administration have made many interventions in the health sector.

From the establishment of a Medical School in the Rivers State University, to the upgrading of the former Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital with an investment of $10Million in purchased medical equipment. The massive intervention in the renovation of otherwise moribund secondary healthcare institutions in the state with the simultaneous rehabilitation of several General Hospitals, the Construction of Magnificent Dima Denni-Fiberesima Doctors Quarters and the approval of the implementation of the corrected Consolidated Medical Salary Scale for doctors in Rivers State service.

The Government also embarked on the Construction of 4 Multi-Storey Regional Referral Hospitals in Bori, Degema, Okehi and Omoku, and also saw to the reconstruction, furnishing, and equipping of some of General Hospitals across variously LGAs of the state.

Heath is a priority as far as human existence is concerned and the “NEW” Administration has treated it in same manner. Governor Wike also hinted on the Government’s plan to construct an international Specialist Hospital during a visit to him by the National President, Nigerian Medical Association. He said that the proposed New Specialist Hospital will promote medical tourism in Rivers State. According to the Governor, the new specialist hospital will have a helipad, modern equipment for the treatment of cancer, kidney, heart and liver diseases. It is aimed at stemming foreign trips by Nigerians for healthcare services hereby conserving foreign exchange for the country.

The commitment of the “NEW” administration in the area of healthcare is one without doubts as empirical evidence abound. However, with the administration having 3 more years to go, we hope and look forward to further interventions and development in the sector.

Fuckyoumod:
Stop writing nonsense here!

So pleasure pack is a legacy for a Gov. After 8 years?

When Gov. Udom is busy building factories, from string, Airline to rice mill creating job opportunities in Akwa ibom.

Your here talking about pleasure park.
Just respect yourself!!!

Why do you have difficulty with understanding?

Common sense that comes so easy, how can it be so hard for you?

The Port Harcourt Pleasure Park will stand as ONE OF HIS LEGACY PROJECT, how does that transcend to being wike “Legacy for 8 Years?”

How does 2015-2020 count for 8 years?

Why do you choose to be unfortunate?

Travel / Port Harcourt Pleasure Park And The Legacy Of A “new” Administration. by TonyOputa(m): 6:46am On Jun 17, 2020
It was around 1996, one of my most fulfilling child hood memories. I remember how we rode in a car that glided on a steel like surface with a long pole behind seeming to connect to the roof. There were others kids in there own “small cars” too, we collided on each other very often, the parents would stare in amusement as they watch their kids have fun in a circus-like setting of little electric cars acting like Fomular1 drivers wannabes. This place I only knew it as “
AMUSEMENT PARK and that it was located at Eleme Junction.

This memory is stuck in my mind till this day.

Amazingly, after about 2 decades plus, I was staring at my son Ikenna sitting in a car moving in circle alongside other horse & bird shaped objects dangling and making rhythmic motion as they all moved in a circle. This time, it was a place known as the PORT HARCOURT PLEASURE PARK.

The PORT HARCOURT PLEASURE PARK is one of the projects I consider a Legacy Project by the NEW Administration.

Prior to the construction of the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park, the city lacked a one stop for Family pleasures.

While growing up, it used to be Tourist Beach, the Port Harcourt Zoo or the Amusement Park, however with time these things eroded.

The last administration saw the establishment of the Port Harcourt Mall. On the Christmas of the year it was opened, the Mall was massively congested. This alone was a clear indication that the city was lacking a leisure centre.

It was as if Gov. Wike had similar thoughts and concerns as during his early days as Governor, the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park was one of the projects he kickstarted earnestly.

On 25th day of May 2016, the Governor officially flagged off the construction of the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park.

On May 27th of same year, in the Governor’s address to the Children in commemoration of the 2016 Children’s day celebrations, the governor stated that his administration flagged off the construction of the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park to create a facility for recreation for Rivers children and the entire family, the first of its kind in the history of the state.

During the period of construction, the Pleasure Park project was one of the most inspected projects by the Governor. The Governor was passionate about it and this was made manifest as 1 year after, May 26th 2017 precisely, the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park was formally Commissioned and unveiled for public use.

On the day of commissioning, the facility had climbing tower, artificial lake with pedal boats, fitness machines, football pitches, mini golf course, restaurants and mobile gyms.

Overtime, there have been many additions to the facility such as Paint ball and Shooting Range, Shopping Mall, Restaurants and a 5-Star Cinema.

On the 6th of March this year, an addition of a new ultra-modern restaurant The Michael Garden restaurant was commissioned by the Governor. The Governor also announced that State Government has concluded plans to build a 5-star hotel in the facility.

The Port Harcourt Pleasure Park is now an integral part of the Port Harcourt identity, one which attracts visitors from far and near. Last year, it won the Nigerian Tourism Award for Best Family Amusement Centre in Nigeria. Classic

Till this day, the Governor still care a great deal about the Park. The Park which was kept under the management of Julius Berger (The Company that constructed it) for a period of 2 years after construction, in 2019, the Governor appointed a Special Adviser on Pleasure park to ensure the smooth running and seamless interfacing of the facility.

If there are few projects I consider as Gov. Wike’s Legacy projects, the Pleasure Park comes top. It is beyond a project, but one that affects the most delicate amongst us, THE CHILDREN and THE FAMILY.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State welcoming his Edo State counterpart, Godwin Obaseki today at Government House, Port Harcourt.

Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike on Sunday received his embattled Edo counterpart Godwin Obaseki at the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt.

Details of the meeting were sketchy but there were speculations they might not be unconnected with the political future of Obaseki, who has been disqualified from contesting the primaries of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Edo.

On the 4th & 5th of January 1967 a Meeting was held in Aburi, Ghana as a way of averting the looming civil war. This meeting was attended by delegates of both the Federal Government of Nigeria (the Supreme Military Council) and the Eastern delegates, led by the Eastern Region's leader Colonel Ojukwu.

At this Meeting the Eastern region led by Ojukwu agreed on a CONFEDERATION kind of GOVERNMENT, and the civil war broke as result of the then Supreme Military Council initiating decrees that went contrary to the Interpretations of the ACCORD by the Eastern Region.

Since the post Civil War era, the SOUTH EAST has always agitated for the REPUBLIC OF BIAFRA and this agitation was born out of the feeling of neglect they get in this union called NIGERIA.

It is Good to note that the Igbo Man's first call was not for a nation of is own but for a form of government that guarantees equal rights, equal opportunities and mutual respect for all citizens therein regardless of their ethnicity. A Government where an IGBO MAN will not be looked at as a second class citizen.
Biafra was only declared when the Supreme Military Council showed no plans of obeying the Aburi Accord.

Overtime, the perceived unequal treatment of the Eastern region gave rise to so many Pro-Biafra movement such as MASSOB, IPOB etc and the followership these movements enjoyed was a clear indication of what the People feel.

In 2014, the Federal Government under Goodluck Jonathan out of its wisdom initiated the NATIONAL CONFAB where sincere discussions were held as regards our unity as a nation and resolutions were reached. The average IGBO MAN was happy and hoping for a better future but upon the emergence of this present Administration, the most sincere progress we made as per discussing our continued stay as a nation was swept under the carpet.

WHY ATIKU?
Since the return of Democracy to our dear nation, Atiku has been the only Leader that has consistently stated in clear terms on his stand on RESTRUCTURING, his quest for DEVOLUTION OF POWERS and DECENTRALIZED form of Government.

OHANEZE NDIGBO being that apex body of the IGBO Ethnic Nationality has over time stated it's preference of a RESTRUCTURED Nigeria, and on the 8th July 2018, the body stated I clear terms that IGBOS WON'T SUPPORT CANDIDATES OPPOSED TO RESTRUCTURING and so far so good, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is the only candidate that has consistently indicated his stand on RESTRUCTURING.

Considering that a RESTRUCTURED Nigeria was the reason we from the South East went to war in first place and even declared a republic, it is safe to say that a properly Restructured Nigeria worth more to us than even an IGBO PRESIDENCY.

My Support for Alhaji Atiku is for the Emancipation of the IGBO Ethnic Nationality, is is for the realization of the dreams of Late Odumegwu Ojukwu, and all fallen heros of the land of the rising sun. For in the candidacy of ATIKU, our interest is fully secured.

Politics / Nigerian Youths Kicks Back As NASS Plans to Kill The #NotTooYoungToRun Bill by TonyOputa(m): 8:40am On Jul 17, 2017
RESOLUTION OF THE#NIGERIAYOUTHACTION WITH RESPECT TO REMOVAL OF THE #NOTTOYOUNGTORUN BILL FROM FINAL CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW REPORT OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Yesterday, Sunday, 16th July, 2017, The #NigerianYouthAction held a brief emergency meeting in wake of a development in the National Assembly with regards to the #NotTooYoungToRun Bill which was reported to have been removed from the final report of of the NASS Constitution Review Committee.

The #NotTooYoungToRun Bill which is sponsored by Hon. Tony Nwulu seeks to reduce the constitutional age requirement to run for elective office in Nigeria with ultimate goal of promoting increased youth participation in political process and independent candidacy.

The bill, though passed at 1st and 2nd readings, was not included in the final report that was considered and adopted by the lawmakers at the Lagos retreat which held on 14 – 15 July 2017.

This development is a huge setback to the vision of the #NigerianYouthAction which seeks to promote youth participation in government and governance.

In the meeting was the Rivers State Coordinator of the #NotTooYoungToRun Campaign, Sen. Chiefson Nwaiwu.

After a brainstorming session which had in attendance Rivers State Coordinator of the #NotTooYoungToRun Campaign, Sen. Chiefson Nwaiwu, the following resolutions were made.

1. We would write to the National Assembly via official channels and express our disappointment on the recent development on the bill and urge that legislation on the bill be continued on the back drop of the progress already made.

2. We would ollaborate with the #NotTooYoungToRun Campaign via peaceful demonstrations and other activities in putting pressure on the National Assembly to continue as well as fast track further legislation on the bill.

3. We would carry out an aggressive social media campaign against any attempt to kill the bill and use same medium to mobilize our youths to join our cause.
