Fighting corruption is not an easy task, but must be done. If we don't kill corruption, it will kill us. |

Well, what is really there to worry about? If he is doing it on his own volition, then so be it. |
The fact is as long as the world continues to exist, 5G techonology is inevitable. There will even be a more advanced technology as time goes on. |
No matter your belief or what you stand for, do not run others' beliefs down. Do not blaspheme. Do not run others' beliefs down. |
It is unfortunate that some fraudulent ones will still be hell bent on defrauding fellow human beings at a time like this. This covid-19 period calls for sober reflection. |
Seeing dead body on the street in Nigeria is not a completely strange thing, but these are strange times. Then, the name, Kano, conjures something sinister these days. |
The madam has tried but everything reeks of favouritism. She needs to redeem herself. She is the First Lady of Nigeria, not Kano State. |
All these postulations are just fantasies. They are stranger than fiction. I will rather go for fiction. |
Those Al majiri boys really need good re-orientation. No economy can develop when young ones like the Al majiri are allowed to flourish. The almajiri belief/practice must be abolished. |

I had forgotten about her and the niece she said would be coming over to stay temporarily in my place. Now, I was being reminded. “Okay. I think she will have to meet me in the office. I’ll be in the office then. Or better still, send her number to me.” “I’ve given her yours. I’ll send hers to you, right away.” “Okay.” “Thanks.” “You’re welcome.” As soon as the line was disconnected, as if on cue, Edith’s call came through. “Hello, sir. Is that Mr. Henry Alashe? This is Edith, Aunty Linda’s niece on the line.” “Oh, Edith, your aunty just called me now. She said you’ll soon be arriving in the city.” “Yes.” “I won’t be at home when you come. Can you take a cab to Apo? I’ll send you a description to my office.” “Okay, sir.” “Alright, see you, Edith.” About thirty minutes later, I got a call from one of the security details that A Miss Edith Bulus would like to see me. I told him to allow her entry. Another couple of minutes later, Edith came into my office. “Good day, sir,” she greeted, curtseying. “Good day, Edith. How was your trip?” “Fine, sir.” “Okay. You have to give me a couple of hours before I’ll close for the day. You will stay at the secretary’s office. if you’re hungry, tell her. She will get you something to eat.” “Thank you, sir.” I went back to work. At exactly four-thirty, I decided to call it a day. “Did you have anything for dinner?” I asked Edith as we moved down to the car park. “Yes, the secretary got some food for me.” I nodded, knowing that I had instructed the secretary to do that. She put her luggage in the booth of the car and joined me at the front seat. “So, what will you be studying at the university?” I asked as I drove the CRV out of the assembly complex. She smiled. “Political Science.” ‘Hmn, interesting. You want to join politics too?” “Ah, no o,” she said quickly. “Maybe I’ll just work in the Ministry like my aunt.” I nodded. Deliberately, I had decided not to stare at her or study her, but I could still say something about her, all the same. Edith couldn’t be more that eighteen. She was a petite one who was still budding into full womanhood. She had a light skin and a pretty face. In a way, she reminded me of when Kike first came to live with my parents in Lagos. But then, the former was much bustier. I quickly checked myself and stopped making comparisons. In my flat, I took Edith to the room she would be staying. I showed her the bathroom and the toilet she would be using. I also showed her the kitchen. “I don’t cook but eat out. However, if you want to cook, you can always use the kitchen. There are still some foodstuffs, but if you need any, let me know.” “Thank you, uncle.” She went to her room while I sat in the sitting-room to watch the local news. She seemed to be the reserved type, so I let her be. The following morning, I woke up five-thirty to start preparing for the day. After I had dressed up, I went to knock on the door of my guest. She was obviously still asleep. “Hello, good morning.” “Good morning, uncle.” “How was your night?” “Fine, thank you.” “I’m on my way to the office. aren’t you going for lectures or something?” “I’ll soon be going.” “Good. You can help yourself in the kitchen.” I dipped my hands into my pocket. “Have this in case you need something. Then, have this key. That’s your own key to the apartment. When you’re going out, lock it.” “Okay sir. Thank you, sir.” I left the apartment and went off to work. That Tuesday, immediately I closed from the office, I went to the club I went to once in a while to cool off. I took a couple of bottle of beers and spicy sharwama before I left for home. Edith opened the door of my apartment for me. “Hello, Edith.” “Welcome, uncle.” There was a total transition from the Edith I had seen the previous day. She had changed from the girl that looked like a very timid one to one that was very sexy. She was wearing a T-shirt and bum short, like a young university student that she was, but seriously looking like a pretty young thing. The woman and I left the two men in the office. I followed Ms. Davies through a corridor to her own office. ‘Sit down, Henry,’ she said, motioning me to a seat. ‘Thank you, madam.’ I sat down and studied the office briefly. Then I studied the woman I was to work with. Ms. Davies was a bespectacled, pretty but serious-looking woman. I wondered how she came to be working for the senator. ‘Well, as the senator said, I’m Ms. Omolola Davies, the Chief of Staff. You’ve joined us at a time the political campaigns are about to start. Next week, the campaign will kick off, and as you’re aware, Senator Dayo Osho is seeking re-election under our great party which has already given him the ticket, based on his meritorious service to his constituency.’ She paused to stare briefly at me. I was not surprised she appeared to be verbose. Many politician and their aides were. ‘You’ll have to prove that you’re capable and competent to handle whatever task is assigned to you. In a place like this, I must tell you that it’s not a tea party. There’s a big work to do and you just have to be up and doing. You have only three months to prove that you’re capable. At the end of your three months with us, I’ll give the honorable senator reports on your evaluation performance. You’re out if you don’t measure up. Do you understand?’ I nodded. ‘Yes, ma’am.’ ‘Good. But if you measure up, you’ll indeed enjoy many things. The senator is a generous rewarder of those who do their work diligently. Do your best, Henry.’ ‘Yes, ma’am.’ ‘Fine. Now, let me take you to your office.’ I followed her to a large office, where two workers – a male and a female – were already seated. ‘Here is Henry,’ Ms. Davie introduced. ‘He is joining us. Henry, meet Titi and Rasheed, members of the campaign team.’ ‘Hello, Henry,’ Rasheed greeted, extending a pudgy hand for a handshake. ‘Good morning, Mr. Rasheed.’ I shook his hand and that of Titi. ‘Later, you’ll still meet with some other people that you’ll be working with,’ Ms. Davies said. ‘Meanwhile, you can occupy that desk.’ She pointed at the desk at the extreme right. I nodded and moved over to the desk. In my office at the architectural firm, I had an entire office to myself, but here, I was to share one with two fellows. Well, things did happen that way. ‘Alright, see you,’ Ms. Davies said and left. I braced myself up for the new challenges. When it was ten o’clock, Ms. Davies summoned me to her office. ‘A meeting will soon start on campaign strategies. I will preside over the meeting and it’s holding in the conference room. You’re to be there.’ I nodded. ‘Yes, ma’am. But where is the conference room?’ She smiled briefly. ‘Don’t worry. You’ll soon know.’ Few minutes later, I got to know that the conference room was just down the corridor. It was quite large and could sit two hundred people at a time. About six of us attended the meeting. I was keen in listening to them and learning how they operated. The constituency was zoned and we were to meet with some party adherents at the zonal and ward levels on how to mobilize for the rallies and campaign proper. We also deliberated on the materials and souvenirs to distribute to the people. In- between the meeting, food packs of fried rice and chicken was served. I suddenly realized that this my new task was going to be interesting, after all. By noon, the meeting was over. Ms. Davies called me to her office. ‘How did you find our meeting,’ she asked. I smiled. ‘I must say it was very interesting,’ came my reply. She smiled too. ‘This is just the beginning. There are usually meetings upon meetings, at different places. It’s not easy but the end pays off. Where do you live?’ I told her the street and the area. ‘Interesting. Are you on your own or still living with your parents?’ ‘I’m living with them,’ I answered. She nodded. ‘That means you’re still a kid.’ I didn’t like that remark, but didn’t say anything.
