SOME violent Hausamen
yesterday threw sanity to the
wind as they unleashed
terror on some policemen in
the popular Bodija Market in
Ibadan leaving two persons
dead and a police post burnt.

Also, eleven vehicles, nine
motorcycles were either
burnt or vandalized. The
bloody clash forced
thousands of marketers and
traders out of the market
abandoning their shops and
wares. Some butchers whose
shops are close to the place
left their meats on the table
and ran for dear lives.

When they besieged the
police post, all detainees
under investigation were set
free. The quick response of
security men which included
policemen, the security team
tagged Operation burst, men
of the Nigeria Security and
Civil Defence Corps, soldiers
checked the escalation of the
crisis.

When Saturday Vanguard got
to the scene of the incident
yesterday, all the stalls, shops,
banks, filling stations in the
area were deserted, while
the troubled spot was
barricaded by fierce-looking
policemen.

According to one of the
officers on night duty at the
police post, he said the
genesis of the crisis was the
clash between a Hausa man
and a Fulani who were
fighting over a commercial
sex worker in Bodija.

PoliticsNigeria Air Force To Inaugurate Helicopter Flying School In Enugu by Torch1(op): 8:26pm On Jun 14, 2012
Enugu – The Nigeria Air
Force has completed its
International Helicopter
Flying School in Enugu and
may inaugurate it in July, an
official has said.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air
Marshal Mohammed Umar,
made the announcement
during a courtesy visit to
Gov. Sullivan Chime at the
Government House in Enugu
on Thursday.
“Your Excellency, you will
recall that sometime in 2010,
we were here in Enugu
when the Nigeria Air Force
brought the idea of
establishing an international
helicopter flying school here
in Enugu.

“Since then, we have put
plans in motion to realise
that dream. I am very
delighted to inform you that
the dream is gradually
coming to pass. We hope
and pray that the school will
take off on July 23, 2012.
“That is why I am here
personally to come and
inspect the level of progress
of work in the school.
I am
very glad to inform you that
more than 90 per cent of the
project has been completed,’’
the air force boss said.
He said that although the
force was experiencing
some challenges in the cause
of the inauguration, it would
ensure the total completion
before the date of the
opening.

The air chief assured the
governor that it was ready to
give the state the deserved
exposure to the international
community.
Responding, Chime
expressed delight that the air
force was being fortified in
the state.

He pledged the support of
the state government toward
ensuring the success of the
project and the allocation of
a befitting office site to the
force in the state.
“I am happy that the air
force is re-establishing itself
here in Enugu. We will do
everything possible to keep
you here in Enugu, anything
that will make your stay here
more comfortable,’’ the
governor said. (NAN)

According to sources, the

the lifeless bodies of the

PoliticsReps Advises Shutting Of Warri Refinery Due To Pollution by Torch1(op): 3:39pm On Jun 12, 2012
The House of
Representatives Committee
on Petroleum,
Downstream, has advised the
Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation, NNPC, to shut
down the Warri Refining and
Petrochemical Company,
WRPC, due to the dangerous
emission
of carbon black soot on the
environment.

The Chairman, House
Committee on Petroleum,
Downstream, Hon. Dakuku
Peterside, made the call in a
statement after a meeting
with stakeholders over the
lingering crisis between the
refinery and the Ekpan
community.
The call followed a
petition written to the
committee, entitled, “A Save
Our Soul Appeal” written by
Ajomata/Awhakpor
Landlords Association of
Ekpan, dated May 24. In the
petition to the committee
were urged to sanction
NNPC over the life-
threatening carbon black
soot being emitted into their
environment.

According to the landlords,
“This appeal was
necessitated by the reckless
emissions of dangerous
carbon black soot/chemicals
into our environment on a
daily basis without due care
and keeping to international
best practices.
“Our continuous appeals in
writing and physical
visitation to the management
of the said company and
their supervising Ministry of
Petroleum over the years
have been ignored, as they
have never replied any of our
letters nor stopped the life-
threatening nuisance that
their emissions have
become.”

The landlords alleged that
whenever the carbon black
soot is released, within a few
minutes, all persons, water,
air, land, clothes and even
pets and domestic animals
in the Ajomata/
Awhakpor area would be
soaked in carbon black soot.
According to them, people
could hardly stay outside
their homes for 10 minutes
without getting their clothes
soaked with carbon black
soot.

They also
claimed their children were
the most affected as they are
always in and out of hospital
for sundry ailments such
as respiratory infections,
heart diseases and asthma
attacks.
They recalled that in 2006,
fishes in the pond of one Sir
Elijah Atomatofa all died from
pollution from the carbon
black soot, adding that
many of the indigenes were
forced to relocate from the
locality thereafter.

After a comprehensive
meeting with all the relevant
stakeholders which included
the people of Ajomata/
Awhakpor community; NNPC;
the Department of Petroleum
Resources, DPR; Ministry
of the Environment; National
Environmental Standards and
Regulatory Enforcement
Agency, NESREA; the
Environmental Rights Action,
ERA, and the
committee leaders, the
lawmakers called for the
suspension of operations at
the plant.

Speaking on behalf of
members, Peterside, called
on the NNPC to shut down
the plant as a matter of
urgency. According to him,
WRPC will further be
endangering human life if it
continues any form of
production.
Peterside also condemned
the obvious lack of
cooperation among
government agencies, which
played out in the course of
the meeting, and warned
that nobody including NNPC
is above the law.

The Action Congress of Nigeria,

Otherwise Christians should

And moreover core Northerners are seeking for presidential seat and not vice president seat, i don't see the possibility of Fashola/El-Rufia(Muslim/Muslim) ticket, many core Northerners might vote against it becos it is not for thier own interest and am sure majority of Christian will not support it becoz the fear of been marginalise.
PoliticsRe: 2015: Tinubu Meets Buhari To Begin ACN-CPC Merger Talks by Torch1(m):
Laila Ikeji: Leaders of two leading opposition parties; Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), have met and expressed their determination to work out a merger ahead of the 2015 presidential election.

ACN’s national leader, Bola Tinubu on Thursday met with the leader of the CPC, Muhammadu Buhari, at his residence in Kaduna for a meeting which was held behind closed doors

In his address to journalists after the meeting, Mr. Tinubu stated that the meeting centred on how to work out an acceptable leadership to steer the affairs of the country.

Hinting on the willingness to reach a compromise for the merger talks ahead of the next presidential election, Mr Tinubu stated that “if we have security agencies that are charged with the protection of the sovereignty of the country at the expense of their own lives, then the leaders must be able to make sacrifices and be flexible enough to help redirect.”

Mr Tinubu also expressed the determination of the two parties to resist being perpetual opposition, saying “we are working for a positive change in 2015. We don’t want to perpetually be in opposition, every politician wants the opportunity to govern,” he said as he explained that both parties were working for a change in the nation’s political history in 2015 that will lead to the formation of a government led by progressive minds.

He declined to give further details of their discussions saying “as politicians we discussed in general the situation in the country and how we can help ameliorate the problems facing the nation.”

Accompanying the former governor of Lagos state on the trip to Kaduna were the governors of Ogun and Ekiti states. Former Minister of the FCT, Nasir El-rufai represented the CPC.

Both parties were involved in a possible merger talks, weeks to the April 2011 presidential election, but the talks collapsed days to the final round of campaigns, owing to irreconcilable differences.
The party’s presidential candidates both came second and third respectively in the poll that was adjudged free and fair.

Na today!!!
A merger between slaves(S.West) and thier masters(core North) can't work.
El-Rufai/Fashola ticket can't pull down PDP, only Fashola(president) and El-Rufai(vice president) ticket can dismantle PDP, but is that possible? A Muslim-Muslim ticket in a country with religious crisis like Nigeria.

PoliticsGovernor Mimiko Caution NURTW Members, Commission N152m Park by Torch1(op): 10:52am On May 30, 2012
ONDO State Governor, Dr
Olusegun Mimiko has
advised members of the
National Union of Road
Transport Workers, NURTW,
to shun entreaties from any
political party that may want
to use them for political
violence in the coming
election, stressing that such
people should be advised to
make use of their children
instead.

Mimiko who made the
statement at the
commissioning of a N152

their peaceful conduct,
noting “there is no gain
saying the fact that NURTW is
a critical sector of the society
and that any investment on
the union cannot be a waste
as it is their right to enjoy
dividends of democracy.
“Now that you have
rebranded your union, you
should resist all entreaties by
self-serving politicians who
might want to use you to
cause mayhem during the
coming governorship
election, just tell them to go
and use their children for
such undemocratic
purposes.
Ondo State people
have vowed that never again
shall we witness election
brigandage in this state.

Ondo should not be a blood
bath pool. People of the
state are not bush rats that
could be captured , our focus
is one man one vote”, he
said.
Imploring it on the
transporters to maintain
good driving culture,
Governor Mimiko said People
might not have realized that
road accident is the highest
cause of death in Nigeria
adding that this has been
proved by statistical
research.
“So, until we start to do
things in line with best
global practices, we might
continue to experience
negativity as against
positivity” the governor
stated.

Mimiko further said since
transportation is a basic
ingredient for sustainable

ensure that similar projects
are sited in other parts of

provision has been made to
that effect in the 2012

Yola— Tension is mounting in Adamawa State as Igbo traders, yesterday, shut shops and other businesses to protest the killings of their kit and kins.

The protest over the killing of an unidentified Igbo man almost turned violent as the protesters clashed with security agents. Most of the major streets in Yola, the state capital, were deserted even as economic activities were paralysed.

The traders, in their hundreds, matched through the major streets, chanting solidarity songs to register protest. They appealed to the state government to address the insecurity situation in the state as the ugly situation had made them to live in fear both at home and in the markets.

The situation, however, heightened when three Igbo traders were killed by unknown persons at about 1pm in the commercial area of Muhammed Mustafa way.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nemuel Yoila, was said to be with the state Police Commissioner for a security meeting when Vanguard contacted his office for his comments on the issue.

Meanwhile, Adamawa State government has banned the use of commercial motorcycles, popularly referred to as Achaba in the Northern part of the country, in Yola.

Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Chief Ari Timnu, in a statement, yesterday, said the government had considered it necessary to ban commercial motorcycles in five major towns in the state because most crimes and security breaches were committed by men of the underworld on motorbikes in those areas.

Am hoping Chelsea will loose, i don't want Arsenal to play UEFA play off...
medjai: If this is the evolution of football when one team attacks practically for the entire game(Barca) and the other just plays in their own half, continuosly defending, diving intermittently to disrupt the flow of the game, relying upon a couple of opportunistic attacks and luck(Chelsea), then it is terrible for the game, period!

Games of such nature are destructive for the sport. The anti-football of Chelsea is shameful and destructive for the game of football. It's even more disgraceful when you consider that Chelsea are supposed to be a big club. Abrahamovic has endlessly pumped money into this Chelsea project since taking over. This is a Chelsea side that was put together with hundreds of millions of £ and even has a £50 million signing on the bench and yet, the best they could come up with is this cynical, vulgar and vomit-inducing, anti-football, SMH. It's understandable when small clubs like QPR, Blackburn and Stoke play like this but Chelsea? Even those poor clubs in Spain that don't have up to 1/10 of Chelsea's budget don't indulge in such shameful act. I can't even imagine how any football fan would be proud of such display. If every team played like that, I'm pretty sure there won't be as many football fans in the world today.

Where exactly is the sympathy for us fans enduring those 180 minutes of repulsive, anti-football?
so true! I hate watching Chelsea match, it is so boring.. Since Di Matteo take over it is this new method of 9-1 formation.. 9 players will just line up on 18yard box while only one player(Drogba or £50m) wil be on d front.
But am sure Bayern Munich will beat Chelsea even if they play that thier cowardly pattern becoz Bayern don't play like Barca.
