Politics / Re: Happy New Year Shout Out To Nigerian Soldiers Battling Boko Haram And Insurgency by Torkwase1(f): 8:52am On Jan 01, 2016
Happy new year to our dear soldiers, for putting your life on the line for us. Many may not understand how difficult it is, but your sacrifice will never be in vain. I've seen first hand what soldiers go through in the Northeast, and it's not a job for the lily livered.

StepTwo:
abeg na only Buratai I wan see.

seriously, anytime I see that man, I see a joker.

Why do you speak like that? Are you a soldier? That is someone who has put everything on hold, including his family life, and his only preoccupation now is how to finish off boko haram, and you're here talking nonsense. What have you ever done to support the troops? What do you know about this war, or what Buratai has been doing? Or are you one of those who have picked a few isolated features about him from the media and use that to label him? It's a pity the kind of people we are fighting to keep safe.
I don't mean any offence, I just think Nigerians should be a little bit morw supportive. Military men aren't magicians afterall, and we all have a part to play.

Autos / Re: Direct Tokumbo Cars At A Cheaper Price: 2000 - 2014 Model Cars. Toyota, Honda, by Torkwase1(f): 9:29pm On Oct 19, 2015
Hi. Just discovered this thread. I've been trying to get a brand new small hatchback car in the category of Toyota corolla, Auris, Yaris; VW Polo, Golf 4/5; etc, but it seems these cars aren't available (at least in Abuja). I was told you have to order direct from US or something. How true is this? Pls can you give me quotes for brand new and clean Belgium for the ones I mentioned. Thank you

Events / Re: Six Things We Shouldn't Be Seeing Anymore In Nigerian Weddings by Torkwase1(f): 10:22pm On Jan 31, 2015
stag:
African ladies need to stop making white gown their default wedding dress. And the men suits!

Aso-oke Iro and Buba and the guy's Agbada should do. Same as should other ethnic groups/cultures across make their traditional dresses default.

It will take a miracle to have me wear suit on my wedding day undecided

You are so right! I mean, why can't I wear my traditional attire, with correct gele, and still do the wedding in church? Why do I have to put on a clinically white, uncomfortable costume that will become practically useless after the wedding?
I hope I get to marry someone who understands my stand on this matter, so we can break the status quo and wear amazing trad to church. Still trying to figure out why the wedding must be in church. Can't the man of God pray for us during the family rites

Education / UNN Suspends Postgraduate Programme by Torkwase1(f): 11:14pm On Jan 17, 2015
The postgraduate programme of the University of Nigeria, UNN, has been suspended indefinitely by the school authorities. This follows protests by the PG students over increase in the school fees for both new and returning students.
The school claims the hike is to "standardize" the PG programme of the institution.
The school on Friday ordered PG students to vacate the hostel, and locked them outside.
More trouble from the Lions' Den.

GodsMercy1:
This is good for the party. My only sympathy here is just for two governors - God'swill (Akwa Ibom) and Chime (Enugu). Both will do well as Ministers especially for Works. May God bless Nigeria.

My thoughts exactly about the ministers. Akpabio should be put to full use in building infrastructures, maybe we will stop seeing substandard and mediocre works in our land.
And are these people suggesting that senators are now there for life? What's all this talk about giving automatic tickets because they're experienced? Though I don't support ex governors who feel the senate is their birth right/ retirement benefit, I think others should be given the opportunity to legislate too.

I would have supported him in other circumstances, but not when it comes the crop of corrupt Nigerian politicians who mess up this country with impunity. Sir, tell yourself, and your people to show some decorum. Corruption does not look nice on them.

Education / Re: Tell Us The Subject U Hated Back In Ur Secondary School Days by Torkwase1(f): 10:12pm On Oct 03, 2014
I hated MATHEMATICS like hell. My teachers didn't understand, I would do very well in every other course, both arts and science ands business, but Maths was different. Once the teacher enters and writes MATHS on the board, my head would start aching.
The only topics I enjoyed in maths was geometry and points of elevation/depression or something like that. All those other sums like x=√÷12/√<34:56 etc etc, were just agonising sad . It prevented me from being a science student, but thank God for giving me grace in alternative areas where I excelled..

Nairaland / General / Re: 37 Things You’ll Regret When You’re Old by Torkwase1(f): 7:19am On Sep 03, 2014
Great list. I love to try new things, and do stuff that make me happy. But because some of these things are unusual, they are frowned upon, or at best, make people wonder what kind of 'girl' I am. These days I just keep reminding myself that its my life, and I'm the one who will regret later if I miss the opportunities of living a full, exhilarating life.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: What's The Weirdest Question You Have Ever Been Asked In An Interview by Torkwase1(f): 11:09pm On Aug 17, 2014
Hmm reminds me of when I went for my interview for a position in a major TV house. The chairman's massive office with over 20 flatscreen TVs first of all threw me off guard shocked. Then after going thru my credentials, he calmly asked, at what age where you disvirgined shocked shocked shocked I almost passed out lipsrsealed He had some 'big' people in his office, and they all were staring at me, almost mischieviously daring me to speak lipsrsealed) When I regained my composure, he told me he wasn't interested in the answer at all, but if I wanted to be a media person, I must be prepared for all kinds of questions at all times.
He then proceeded to ask me that why are there so many HIV/AIDS cases in my state. Instead of arguing, I calmly told him people were not obeying the ABCs of sex and AIDS. He then said how would I advise his son (who also happened to be in the office at that time)on the choice of a wife between a girl from somewhere in Calabar where they allegedly eat humans ( lipsrsealed) and my state where they have high HIV rate! Then he asked me to suggest a possible media campaign strategy to help reduce HIV prevalence in my state...
It turned out to be quite an interesting discussion, not even an interview per se. And I got the job, effective immediately cheesy
