Eduu50: My people I greet all of una. As a brand new poster here, I pay homage to all of you guys. Una too much. This is a most wonderful thread. I must confess that I have followed bits and bits of several former threads and have gotten a lot of valid and helpful info but I can't say I have been an ardent follower. I am however in need of some advise and I feel confident that I will get help here.
After I was rejected admission by some schools earlier in the year, I applied to some other schools which were still accepting admission applications. I am going for Ms Chem Engr and completed my application to Latech Uni in May i.e I sent a hard copy of my transcript. I had removed mind and thought from going for further studies this year and decided that I will pursue with more fervor next year but I received an email yesterday stating that a copy of my passport and bank statement/affidavit of support are required by the ISO to issue the I20 and now everything seems to be tumultuous as I have now become very confused. If you may oblige me and I pray u can spare a moment, please I need clarification on certain things; 1) does a request such as this indicate that I have been offered an admission? (I assume so but I m forced to wonder as it has not been formally communicated to me that I have been offered a admission). 2) Considering the timing (school begins in september), do u imagine that there is a remote chance that I may be able to receive this I20 and sort out visa before September 3) I have a new Usd acct (just opened last week) in Nigeria that I can easily make up to the amount as required and stated in the email I received; do u think I make up this amount in the Usd account and send the statement to them or I should look for a statement of an account from maybe an uncle, that has history and send to them. The former is easier and the latter will take some time and still be harder.
Thanks a lot. Fellow Chemenger ,yes the request means you have been offered admission. 2. You will still be able to meet up with resumption by September if ur visa is sorted out. Just ask for ur I-20 to be sent by courier(it will arrive within 3 to 4days). Pay ur SEVIS and appointment fees then u are good to go. Shalom |

djmakson: Lol...It's a normal feeling. Just relax by taking your mind off it and not putting yourself under pressure. I also felt that way days before my interview but then I BELIEVED!
What I did:
I printed out plenty of transcripts (more of approvals than denials). About 50 of it. I then analysed one by one, picked out the FAQs and the major ones, made a draft of possible responces (although my strategy was never to cram) and thereafter contacted a few gurus to help look into the draft via pm and I got beautiful responces from people right here.
All what I stated above requires commitment and perseverance. It wasn't easy but it was worth the while! 1000likes bro.. God bless you..Thanks |

LagosNIV: There is usually more to these cases than is posted here on Nairaland - I have seen that from the transcripts of my own interviews posted here. Each time an individual re-applies for a U.S., their case will be reviewed again. It is extremely important that you answer the VO's questions honestly and not attempt to conceal any information; any VO reviewing this case will be able to read detailed notes entered by law enforcement officers at the border and will undoubtedly ask about being turned around at the border. Whether this or not this leads to a refusal is dependent on the circumstances of the individual case. @VO I applied for emergency interview on Thursday but I have not received any message as regards to whether it has been approved or not. Please how long does it take for such request to attended to.I have been waiting for a message for over 72hrs. Thank you |

bigfrancis21: First I'm going to warn you. Because of the 2m you mentioned, you are going to be receiving emails and 'offers' from scammers posing to be nairalanders for 'services'. Be careful how you divulge your financial status on the internet, especially on this forum.
Second, 2m will not really take you that far in terms of tuition alone here in the US. The cheapest schools you can find will gulp close to 4m to 5m a year on tuition alone. Not including living expenses, miscellaneous and what have you.
Third, when you get into the US, don't think that your sufferings will end and you'll suddenly start enjoying life. You will be very surprised to find that life is very difficult here. I like being blunt and honest. I say things the way they are. But the good thing is if you work hard you are sure of the gains and where it will lead you to. On average, it would take you close to 5 years before you can find your feet in this country.
For anyone who doesn't have a system going for them in Nigeria I can encourage you to come to the US. You will have an average life here. You will have a job, a house (on mortgage), a car (on loan), etc. You can change cars easily as you change okirika clothes, so far as you have a job that can afford the monthly payments. You'll have the life you never dreamed of having in Nigeria
However, for those who already have a system going for them in Nigeria - a good job, investments here and there, who want to resign from their jobs, sell their investments off all in the name of going to emelika, that would be the greatest folly of your life. With your status in Nigeria, you are way better off than your mates in the US who barely have investments and depend on that one job or as many as 3 jobs to survive, to be able to pay their house mortgage (lest the bank reposseses their house and they go homeless), pay their car loan (before it is repossessed), etc. and you can always visit the US and spend as many as 6 months if you want. Life in the US for many revolves around working, working and working. Taxation is very high. People barely have investments or savings in this country because they live from paycheck to paycheck.
The decision is left to you to make. At this point you have 2 decisions to choose from - either spend the next couple of years investing your inheritance into a profit venture in Nigeria that ensures returns every month, further invest your profits into other investments, expand your portfolio (there are good investment opportunities in Nigeria, which foreign investors are taking advantage of) or come to the US and spend the next 5 years working really hard to find your feet (going to school here because you really need a US degree to get a good job here + getting your residency) and living the rest of your life just like every other American - work, pay bills, work, pay bills, a revolving cycle. I'm just being blunt. America isn't the heaven that we think it is in Nigeria. Hmmmm... na wa oooo |

dicapino: But some1 could be considered once yu apply to the school. rite You will have to apply to the school first, then you can also apply for the scholarship. Once u are given admission, you will be notified within the space of 48hrs if you qualify for the merit scholarship(you will qualify for it if you have a GPA of 3.0/4.0 after your transcript might have been evaluated by the school free of charge). You can always apply for any GA/TS position as advertised on the graduate website |
