Igbos are mainly traders that buy and sell on a daily basis, when they sell they deposit and when they want to buy they withdraw. The circle keeps repeating on a daily basis, my friend that is not a measure of development or wealth.
If I withdraw N5000 from Bank and bought a shoe for N4500 which I later sold for N5000 and deposited it back to the bank the same day, financial transaction for that day is recorded as N10,000 but I truly don't have that amount in reality. Imagine repeating the same thing on a daily basis and tell me what my financial transaction will be for a week not to talk of a month.
You just reason, how will anambra's financial transactions be higher than Lagos, port-harcourt, kano, Ibadan, ogun or Kaduna. These are the states with the highest GDP contributions in Nigeria. If anambra is that wealth Igbos won't be rushing down to Lagos and other South Western States on a daily basis. |

Ogun signs MoU on cotton production
Posted By: August 24, 2016In:
Adesanya/Abeokuta The Ogun State Government on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an indigenous natural fibre company, Arewacotton Limited, on the production, processing and marketing of cotton in the state. The partnership, which is expected to address increased cotton and demands from local textile industries as well as exports, would lead to the establishment of an ultra-modern ginnery in the state. The State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and the Chairman of Arewacotton, Professor Michael Olayiwole both signed the MoU at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the State capital . Amosun, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Taiwo Adeoluwa, restated the commitment of the state towards developing the agriculture sector to enhance employment generation. To him, the collaboration would boost productivity and foreign exchange for the local farmers. He said, “There are so many benefits. Agriculture, with its value chain, is the third cardinal programme of this administration. We have always not been in doubt that the only way to put more money in the pockets of our people and to tackle the restive and large youth unemployment is to develop agriculture. It would help us to keep our communities calm and ultimately it will improve our security initiatives.” Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs Ronke Sokefun, disclosed that the agreement is targeted at the cultivation of 10,000 hectares of cotton farmland to be provided by the state government. She explained “But in the first instance, they are going to start by clearing a thousand hectare. At the maximum capacity, we’ll be producing 25,000 metric tonnes at 2.5 metric tonnes per hectare. In fact, between 2017 and 2018, the processing mill which is called the gingery would already come on stream. Our role is limited to land provision and mobilisation of the farmers.” While commending the state government, the Arewacotton boss declared that the collaboration would empower 5,000 indigenes who are cotton farmers and their dependants. Olayiwole added that the partnership with the state would create multiple investment opportunities estimated at billions of naira. He stated “I am delighted to announce that Ogun State is the first state in the South West region to collaborate with us in the spirit of the MoU that we signed with the Federal Government, although we have reached conclusive stages of signing MoUs with some other state governments. “Creation and sustaining an enabling environment devoid of bureaucracy is critical to the success of this project, which is time bound. This is highly critical to the success of our collective goals and efforts.” The event was attended by officials of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bank of Industry and National Cotton Association of Nigeria (NACOTAN), among others stakeholders. http://www.cityvoiceng.com/ogun-signs-mou-on-cotton-production/

Ground force recovers register of Niger Delta militants
Ground forces have recovered names and photos of militants terrorising Lagos – This was after an operation by the air force that killed some militants – The bodies of the dead militants were taken away by their comrades The military in its ongoing war against Niger Delta militants terrorising the south west region have discovered a register that contains the names and pictures of the criminals. The military has been carrying out air and ground operations in the Arepo are of Lagos and some parts of Ogun state following repeated attacks and kidnapping by militants who access the region through the water ways. READ ALSO: Military, police commence ground attacks on militants in Ogun, Lagos The Nation reports that following another air operation during the weekend, ground forces moved into the creeks and recovered pictures and a register containing names of suspected militants. The soldiers also destroyed about 97 camps in the enclave. A military source that spoke on the condition of anonymity said that there was a strong smell of decomposing body which indicated that fleeing militants took with them the bodies of their dead comrades. Some items found are three laptops, expended magazines, an AK47 rifle and police and military uniforms.
“The recovered items will aid the investigation by the DSS and enable them to go after and apprehend the suspects.” The source also disclosed that the registrar showed that the militants were organised as they usually signed in and out READ ALSO: Avengers accuse Nigerian army of extra-judicial killings in Arepo “In one of the registers there are about 450 names on it.” He added that “the police and army uniforms found had no names on them. We saw a lot of personal effects and I can tell you that the militants suffered casualties because of the stench coming out of the camps.” Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force has released a statement assuring residents in the Arepo region to go about their normal duties in the wake of bombing of militants’ hideouts. During the weekend, residents were tensed with the sudden activities of fighter aircraft in the region in Lagos and there were fears that innocent persons might be caught in the attack. While there has been no record of any wrong target or causality, the air force in a bid to keep the people abreast of the situation assured them that the pilots were professionals who understood how to handle such situations.
