I don't think Islam really mandates people should not pray within their own groups and social systems per se, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The major place where everybody- irrespective of tribe, colour, nationality, ethnicity, etc -is supposed to pray and socialize together is when you go on hajj, not so?

If people are more comfortable praying in environments they're used to, is that necessarily a bad thing.

deols: same question could be asked of you. grin
Hence my observation.

did you see the part that says Soodanic kingdom. Northern Nigeria through Chad to Sudan was probably an entity and all of these people seeing each other as one-Islamic brotherhood.

Don't look at the Borno mentioned as the Borno state of today. It is larger than that.
The whole of nigeria was considered western sudan at some point.

The letter was asking for safe passage for some english travellers, not sure how your post applies?
FamilyRe: Should Newly Married Couple Stay In A Five Bedroom Apartment? by tpia5: 4:44pm On Dec 06, 2013
Overseas many bachelors ( young guys and never even married), can afford houses if they have good jobs and some actually do buy two or three bedroom residences while single.

Likewise it is not too unusual either to sometimes see single ladies who live in their own houses as opposed to renting an apartment.

It all depends on the size of your pocket, as long as 'awon aye' are not following you. Although for safety reasons, they may sublet or rent out.

In nigeria, young guys of marriageable age who are well placed, are far more likely to be married so it might be more difficult to draw conclusions about such.

IslamRe: Why Can't Spider-man Convert To Islam? by tpia5: 4:32pm On Dec 06, 2013
sino: The story has been the same, creating a character based on stereotype as well as poor understanding of Islam.

Like the writer, i was also excited by a recent story of a superhero (Burka Avenger) also female, created by some "westernized" pakistani, whose funding for the project was from an unknown western investor.

What really appalled me eventually was the lady only dresses in burka when she is going to fight the village 'boko harams', and when she goes to class to teach, she doesn't even wear a headscarf! How do one reconcile this with Islam baffles me.
Maybe the aim is to show modernity doesnt necessarily conflict with religion.

It all depends, so to speak.
IslamRe: An Open Letter To All Muslims by tpia5: 4:24pm On Dec 06, 2013
Should be more applicable to borno since boko haram is there.

What's the op's own btw.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger
How could a baby swaddled and lying in a manger be considered a sign from God to people?

if that were the case, one would at least assume the baby would have a halo or glowing light surrounding it, doesnt seem to be the case here. The sign was not the flashing angels or the symphony and bright lights seen by the shepherds, rather it was just a baby in a manger. To understand this sign better, one has to look at the circumstances surrounding the event.

1. The angels appeared to shepherds out in the fields tending their sheep, not the people in the towns and cities.

Throwback to Abel, who was a shepherd and brought an acceptable offering to God. The later shepherds are witnesses for this time, since the voice of Abel's blood cries to God from the ground [ie in remembrance]. Also foreshadowing Jesus death and resurrection.

2. Jesus was born among livestock [animals]. And the firstborn, unlike previously in the genesis account, where cain the farmer preceded the shepherd. And gave his offering first [fruit of the ground, symbolic of the disobedience in the garden of eden and man's fall/rebellion], while abel gave his own acceptable offering last, thus it did not cover cain's initial one.

3. A manger is not really an attractive place at the best of times, and certainly not for a baby. Mangers are feeding troughs where animals eat and drink. A sign consisting of a baby swaddled and in a manger , shows a child of great importance (swaddling shows care by the mother or mother figure) who is in the poorest of circumstances. The shepherds may be expected to see something more wonderful like a halo or angels visibly surrounding the boy, but this contradiction shows Jesus whose mission will be equally polarizing.

4. Christ is the Great Shepherd and we are his sheep.

He is also the Good Shepherd.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
@ bolded, the shepherds were watching their flocks at night, protecting them from predators which would harm them under the cover of darkness.

A Child in a Manger

Luke 2

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
FamilyRe: And What's So Special About The Male Child? by tpia5: 5:43am On Dec 06, 2013
the op is clearly confused and probably unsure of his sexuality.

maybe an identity crisis of some kind.

both genders are special, however for someone to question his own gender, shows other issues are at work.

if his intention is to point out male gays are male, then he's going about that in a very weird manner.
CultureRe: Rare Yoruba Names And Meaning by tpia5: 5:37am On Dec 06, 2013
step1: Dabiri is a name common to the Eko (part of Lagos), Awori, Ikorodu (an Ijebu people) and perhaps Egun peoples of Yoruba land. The translation of the name can be derived by analyzing the roots:

Da – found/create/started

Ibi – here

Ri - to existence

Bring this location into existence or first settler
ri is found or see.

da is create, form, clear, empty or alone.

bi is birth or here.

breaking it down that way would give an interpretation such as someone who found a place alone [ie by himself].

one of many possible meanings.

however, the name itself sounds like a shortened form of a longer version which probably tells a more complete story.
CultureRe: Rare Yoruba Names And Meaning by tpia5:
people dont understand in yoruba culture, you cant properly analyze the meaning of a name if you dont know the family dynamics involved, as well as the reasons for it.

names are descriptive ie active as opposed to inactive which is what obtains elsewhere.

many "yoruabroads" also do not get this. As well as "yorujebutters".
