@Tpia
i don't care about your history prowess and do not intend to argue with you about any history as that is not my area of specialisation, so if you believe monogamy is not a xtian idea so be it.

Secondly, I have absolutely no problem about people having a contrary opinion about my point of view, personally I am a monogamist and will remain one for ever but I detest the idea of criticising people who believes in polygamy or having an holier than thou attitude. You may not come out frankly ti criticise polygamy but your insinuation of equating polygamy to money ' when the money dries up' says it all
Thirdly, I do not criticise monogamy in any of my post I only gave an example of how monogamy and women 'liberation' in the west has failed them and almost destroy their family lives, there are many instances of how polygamy too has led to jealousy, strife and even murder so in the end i'm only approaching Mercy's case with an open mind rather than taken sides.
You don't need to insinuate that I'll like to marry 10 wives or advise me to.
What you need to do is to open your mind and stop acting like a bigot!
monogamy has destroyed the west.

yet where are you typing from?

the west.

and plz spare me the sob story. You are criticizing monogamy so kindly allow others to state their views even if you dont like it.

this particular lady is being criticized because she's a celebrity.

i'm sure, if the reason for the break up with her previous marriage were known, it would involve the husband cheating with another woman.

prove me wrong.

and yes, i'll like to see how long the love will last when the man's money vanishes.

being rich herself, she'll support him, right?

So what's the moral of the story?
i think he's referring to the nigerian athletes who were disqualified at the commonwealth games in india.

they were all yoruba females, i think.

You forget that they have an older son, who's about 17/18 who isn't into the show biz like his siblings, he wants to play football or something. How come the parents didn't also push him into the industry?
different mother.

Politics › Re: Nigerian-American Gets Genius Grant by tpia5: 4:17pm On Oct 22, 2010
yes, yoruba isnt really monolithic and yorubas are generally wary of forced unity.

given past experiences with that experiment, cant say i blame them.

Jakumo:
Most of those who have attained a reasonable standard of living in the West are unlikely to ever brood over Nigeria and its multitude of random dangers. Many will simply FORGET about that place, and never have cause to look back or give any thought at all to Africa, other than on those rare occasions when another tribal massacre makes headlies, giving cause to pause and marvel at the sheer predictability of a continent stuck fast in an earlier, darker time.

Don't you fret and worry about those who have fled the sinking boat, Tpia, they'll get by somehow ha ha ha. Sho' y'right.
what's the thread about?

did you read the opening post? huh

and, contrary to your claims, you yourself are on nairaland for what reason exactly? Do you live in nigeria? huh

plz ask yourself these questions and save me the trouble.

at some point, people will realize that once you leave, it gets harder for you to come back because the country does not wait for you, and you've been transplanted elsewhere.

Take the whole population of the U.S and dump them in Nigeria. Then take the whole population of Nigeria and dump them in the U.S. You will see how things will fall apart in the U.S in all departments when our so called God fearing people are in control. While in Nigeria you will see the yanks doing things that Nigeria has been unable to do since Oct 1st 1960. Like constant power.
no need to bring religion into this.

america was started by religious people in case you forgot.

west africa has long been hazardous for europeans due to the climate, and that's why they didnt settle in the place in large numbers like they did in southern africa.

so your claims are quite doubtful.

Get damn lost !!!
who cares if you believe monogamy is the best for you why criticising others who want to practise polygamy? its their choice and its their life not yours.
and where did i criticize those practicing polygamy?

do you have a problem with people having different views from yours?

much sensitive arent you!

you are criticizing monogamy but getting your knickers twisted when you think others are criticizing polygamy.

1. monogamy preceded christianity so your assumption is wrong.

2 keep churning out the world's labour force for those who are more far sighted.

3 just go and sit down!! If you want to marry 10 wives who's stopping you!

4. when the money dries up, then we'll know who really "loves" who.

Fact:

someone saying she wants her husband to marry more wives after her, doesnt mean the incoming wives will want her there. We are africans and we know how we do our things.
Politics › Re: Nigerian-American Gets Genius Grant by tpia5: 2:24pm On Oct 22, 2010
igbo american doesnt raise eyebows because in their worldview, igbo supercedes the state and is primary to any other thing.

yoruba american is offensive because it sounds patronizing and just wrong.

Saying Yoruba man would have been slightly less insulting.

aside from the fact that the guy himself no send the op? huh

Shatap dia mister historian, what concerns me about mesopotamia or ancient greece? I am a greek or Mesopotamian? is this a mesopotamian forum? abeg go siddon if you don't know what to talk about, Polygamy has been practised in Nigeria from time immemorial the idea of one man one wife came from the British colonialists and for people like you who believes in anything about white men culture being superior to our traditional culture I'll not waste my time arguing on this with you.
abeg get lost!!!!!!

polygamy being widespread in the olden days doesnt mean everybody practised it!!

monogamy was just considered a sign of being poor and underpriviledged that's all.

not every man wanted to be a polygamist even back then!! Some were forced while others were simply ignored for not being mainstream.

end of.
