Ghandi12: Ben Murray Bruce since becoming a house-hold name has always appeared to be an elitist until he won election as a Senator. He is outspoken and people are matching his actions with his volume of rhetoric - I have actually never considered him to be not elitist, was very surprised to see him tweeting and talking with ordinary people since he joined the senate. |

Politics › Re: Are African Immigrants Better Than The Africans Left Behind? by tpiar: 6:51pm On Feb 20, 2016 |
did someone say they are better? that's usually the misinformation being peddled by Nigerians in Nigeria themselves, and any attempt to correct such an impression, is met with hostility and accusations of not wanting people to progress like you. |

Romance › Re: Falling In Love And Social Class by tpiar: 6:46pm On Feb 20, 2016 |
ronald4lif: In some cases true. Love it's all about interest and people of a higher social class prefers to stick with their caste. They don't want to get involve with anyone of a lower social stratum than theirs. women are generally portrayed as always looking for the opportunity to date above their class but I really doubt its all women who want to do so. I think most times such an impression is in the mind of people, possibly because the women they see around them, are angling for such. |

if you are not in the upper upper class in Nigeria, then your social status is fluid, not static.
however, "middle class" has many different levels, some interchangeable.
in any case, the Nigerian fear of poverty is at war level, no be today. |

TopBooty: Why do most ladies feel belittled and reluctant to date a man who belongs to a social class lower than theirs but guys don't have a problem doing the same as long as the girl in question is lovely? Could it be that women are more picky and materialistic than men? Do you think that social class should balance averagely for two people to have a successful relationship?
In Nigeria, ' abeg go find your level' is a slogan frequently used by more women than men when it comes to relationships. Am I wrong? peer things although I could be wrong. |

paschu: You had no business sending note to BEN. HE WAS NOT IN-CHARGE at that event. You should have engaged POSITIVELY - with ZERO sense of entitlement - with the folks that were in-charge.
Again, did any of you ever bother WHY Computer Science and Mass Communication depts. got invited and others were not? Did you ever stop to ask why you were located at a place that gave you awesome view of the event? What you are doing here is like looking at your neighbor's house through a dirty window, no matter how clean his house is, it will still appear dirty to you.
I was not at the event, and I do not know anyone who attended, but from your narrative, it is clear that you guys were expected to set The Social Media on fire with live feeds from that event - you had the chance - but you all missed it. And you all missed it because, in your funny way of thinking, you wanted to be SPECIALY recognized for doing NOTHING.
If you and your friend had been smart enough to do what was expected of you, you would have gotten some powerful contacts you may never be able to get going forward, you may have secured an internship at Silverbird group or other places. Ben may have hosted you guys to a special welldone and a little pat-on-the-back get together. But you guys missed it all. And now you are also trying to kill your chance of ever getting a job in the near future. Or do you think any employer will be in a hurry to hire someone like the OP having seen how poor his atitude is and how much of an uncreative ingrate he really is? your points are understood but few things to note: 1. If they were expected to be the social commenters at the event, that should have been expressly stated and understood by all parties involved. Besides, I dont think that's how these things work. 2. Why would their job chances be threatened simply because they voiced concerns? Be careful of such statements. If they dont work in their field, then they should be able to work in another field. 3. I dont know about the powerful contacts factor. A celebrity/VIP's time is not random like that although perhaps it might be occasionally but I seriously doubt it. 4. Ben Bruce can throw another party for the general public to celebrate with him. 5. Nigerians do not take class mixing lightly. 6. In any case, the organizers are the ones to be contacted over this. my opinion. |

jerrybay: Funny how you'd ask questions and answers them yourself. Why ask at all. I was present at the event and we did everything possible to make sure a note gets to Bruce and it got to him. We highlighted our pains and he just swerved. Nothing happened your best bet is to let things be, he's not the originator of such scenarios. It was his birthday after all, allow him to enjoy his day, perhaps the organizers should have taken care of such. He can throw another one for the general public maybe. I dont know of any event in Nigeria where people mix across social boundaries freely like that, dont be fooled by pictures where high levels are buying tomatoes, etc in the market, remember its for the camera 98% of the time. |

I fully agree with you. the internet cant change that either. but, what's going on with mbgn, how was it possible for one man to singlehandledly disrupt the whole thing like that, very weird. just wondering. |

you want to "class hop" in Nigeria? good luck with that. Ben Murray Bruce is a nler, so i guess he'll see your thread, and maybe (depending on the circumstances) he might or might not make it up to you, I dunno. However, what you were trying to do was very risky o. You wanted to be rubbing shoulders with folks simply because you see them on the media all the time? hm.
