Nigeria has recorded its first Coronavirus death after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) made the confirmation on its official Twitter handle.

A victim is a 67-year-old man who returned to the country after undergoing medical treatment in the UK.

”The first coronavirus death has been recorded after the case was a 67-year-old male who returned home following medical treatment in the UK,” the tweet said.

”He had underlying medical conditions- multiple myeloma & diabetes & was undergoing chemotherapy.

”Our thoughts are with his family, ‘it added.

Meanwhile, Nigeria now has 36 cases of coronavirus.

NCDC said the new cases were recorded in Abuja, Lagos and Edo.

This comes barely 7 days after Abule Ado pipeline explosion rocked the Amuwo Odofin LGA and no fewer than 23 victims were confirmed dead.

The cause of this Fire explosion could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

From what we gathered from an eyewitness, no death was recorded in the fire explosion as an effort to quench the inferno was successful.

A serving corps member posted to Akwa Ibom State has reportedly died in her sleep at the orientation camp in Ikot Itie Udung, on Sunday, March 15.

The serving corps member who was identified as Mrs Queen Uba Eziuche, a Batch A member with a call-up number: NYSC/ISU/2020/0562, reportedly went to sleep after the regular morning exercise and she didn’t wake up.

The state NYSC coordinator, Mr Julius Amusan confirmed the death of the corps member that she died from an ailment suspected to be a heart-related problem.

Meanwhile the state Governor, Udom Emmanuel lamented the death of the youth corps member. In a condolence message to the deceased’s family and the Director-General of the NYSC, the governor expressed shock over Ms Eziuche’s death.

Governor Emmanuel said: “The sudden exit of Mrs Queen Eziuche has deprived Akwa Ibom State of the contribution she would have made in expanding the layers of our common humanity and also service to her fatherland.”

The Federal Ministry of Education has ordered the immediate closure of tertiary institutions, secondary and primary schools nationwide over the fear of coronavirus in Nigeria and as part of the precaution measures to reduce the spread of the virus.

The Zonal Coordinator of National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) for the southwest chapter, Mr Emmaunel Attah has debunked the rumour that a corps member in NYSC Ekiti Orientation Camp tested positive to Coronavirus.

In a statement gathered by Mr Attah, he described the report as ‘fake and being peddled by mischievous people.”
He stated that it was saddening that such misleading and damaging reports would be peddled at a time the COVID-19 pandemic was being battled worldwide.

“The attention of the NYSC has been drawn to fake and unsubstantiated news making the rounds that a corps member presently in NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ise-Orun, Ekiti State has tested positive to Coronavirus and has been moved to the State Isolation Centre situated at Oba Adenuyigbe Hospital, Anilosun, Ado-Ekiti.

“The said report was in bad light and it is orchestrated just to mislead Nigerians especially, parents and guardians of members of the service corps that are in NYSC Camps nationwide.

“With every sense of responsibility, I wish to reiterate the commitment of the scheme to continue to wage unrelenting war against whatever pandemic that may rear its ugly head near any NYSC formation nationwide with far reaching actions in order to guard against the contraction of any deadly virus by corps members.

“I equally wish to add that the corps member that was purportedly alleged to have tested positive was taken to a Laboratory in Ede, Osun State for comprehensive medical test to determine the veracity or otherwise of the damaging allegation and I am happy to inform the general public that the corps member tested negative to the dreaded epidemic.

“Once again, I want to repeat that no corps member has tested positive to Coronavirus or any other disease in all the NYSC formations nationwide.

“Accordingly, newsmen should endeavour to seek information and clarification from NYSC management or the accredited spokesperson before going to public with such damaging news items.

These are what we revealed by the Zonal Coordinator while addressing Press in Osun State.

“NYSC remains committed to the remarkable welfare and well-being of all corps members nationwide,” NAN quoted him as saying.

Recall that there was speculation that a corps member in Ekiti Orientation camp has been tested positive to the deadly coronavirus and an America man who died in the state might be responsible for that. This made people start panicking due to the reports gotten.

The Lagos State Government has now put a ban on all religious gatherings over the outbreak of Coronavirus.

According to the government, The banning of religious gatherings was announced after the agreement with religious leaders in the state.

The decision was passed in a communique read by the commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, after a meeting with religious leaders in the state at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa.

The State Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Alexander Bamgbola and Grand Chief Imam of the state, Sheikh Suleiman Abou Nolla were among the religious leaders present at the press briefing.

Some Nigerians who rarely go to church or mosque will be happy with this decision made by the Lagos State Government.

Now If Pastor or any other cleric approach you, your response will be like[i] we have been told not to attend religious gatherings because of Coronavirus in Nigeria.[/i]

Former Governor of Gombe State, Senator Goje disclosed that preventable measures need to be taken as quickly as possible rather than looking for a way to cure the virus disease when it becomes endemic in the nation.


The Senator further said:

“This is a problem now worldwide even though the Federal government has been doing its own part, because the Minister of Health has been issuing statements to the effect that we should do this, we should not do that and those who have been infected.

“I believe also that the Lagos State government and the Federal government have been able to curtail this pandemic to a large extent.

“Countries worldwide and big country like the United States of America is taking drastic measures to either contain or prevent coronavirus from entering their country.

“Even countries without the incident are taking measures. Even Africa countries, like Senegal, Rwanda, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya are taking serious measures to protect their countries.

“Even religious bodies are also taking steps. Countries like Saudi Arabia that has no single case of infection and even Kaaba which we all know as Muslims.

“Vatican has announced that we would celebrate Easter without a full congregation and I believe as a country, we should do something very drastic.

“This thing starts gradually. like in the United States, it starts from one to two and as at this morning, it has extended to fifty states.

“Even though we think we don’t have the problem here, we have contacts in Lagos, it will not end there, it will go to Oyo, Sokoto, Borno, and other places.

“In view of this, Mr. President, I want this Chamber to urge President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation on CoronaVirus.

“Other President have been doing that even bigger countries like the United States of America.

Senate after the debate resolved that Nigeria citizens should stop travelling to highly infected countries, as well as restrictions of international airlines to Lagos and Abuja international airports.

After the above debate released by the Senate, He implored every Nigeria should desist from travelling out to those high-risk countries affected by Coronavirus as well put a ban on international airlines to Lagos and Abuja international airports.

Recall that the Federal Government had restricted travellers from high-risk countries ( 13 in number) from coming to the country due to the spread of Coronavirus.

The 13 countries are China, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Japan, France, Germany, Norway, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Switzerland.

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has told the World Bank to assist Nigeria because of Poverty.

Lawan who stated that Nigeria needs the assistance of the World Bank since deadly Coronavirus is proving so hard to even disburse revenue for the 2020 budget implementation.

From what learnt, Coronavirus has killed over 6,000 people worldwide in just three months when it was emanated from Asia country in December 2019.

According to NAN reports, the Yobe Senator told World Bank director who paid a visit in Abuja.

He said: “The World Bank should stand out to come to the aid of Nigeria. Normally you will discuss what the issues are and what the request of the country is.

“We have the issue of power in this country. It is a major issue. Before the security situation deteriorated, our main problem towards achieving our desired development in Nigeria was power.

“I am sure that if we are able to resolve the security challenges we are going through in Nigeria and then fix our power, Nigeria will be a great country,” Lawan said.

The Chairman of the National Assembly stressed that President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise to take 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in ten years was feasible.

“It is possible because we have the ingredients and we have friends who will help us. This is where the World Bank is also needed.”

The senator disclosed that Nigeria now needs technical support from the World Bank.

Lawan added that Africa’s most populous country not only require loans and grants but how to apply and deploy resources to achieve goals.

The lawmaker believes that with the help of world bank, Nigeria will progress.

The dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi has just arrived Lagos, marking an end to his detention in Awe community of Nasarawa State.

According to the Big brother Naija winner, her estranged lover was only collecting money from her and doesn’t really love her back.

In her statement on Twitter, Mercy said:

” I don’t understand some guys. You claim you love someone and all you do is to collect her money and give it to another woman, and still play the victim. Anyway, women are always at fault. Happy women’s week. “

Ike replied to her statement by saying ” he became torn between being a good person and missing out on all the opportunities that life could offer a man as magnificent as him”.

During Big brother house, the two BBNaija lovers usually being seen displaying their love affairs to their viewers.

These Tweets have sparked many social fans to start having the belief that these lovers are indeed not in good terms.

About a few weeks back, Mercy and upcoming singer, Willie XO were spotted having fun in London and they were so fulfilled in each other’s company.

But many fans could not confirm if their relationship is just mere friendship thing or something else. However, the tweet that Mercy posted on Social media has confirmed that they were dating before it ended in a bad way.

Sokoto State has lost a corps member after he complained of normal stomach pain on Monday Night, March 9.

A batch C stream A corps member who was identified as Idemudia Jude was confirmed dead in Sokoto State after complaining of stomach pain yesterday night.

When he complained of stomach pain, his friends thought it was just a mere stomach pain that usually happens to anyone but it got more serious and he was quickly taken to a nearby hospital where he gave up the ghost.

Before his death, he was a graduate of Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State after studying Food Science Technology.

Friends and fellow corps members have gone on Facebook to mourn him.

His loved ones have started pouring their mourning messages on Social media.

Meanwhile, the Doctor has not really stated the main reason why he died because stomach pain cannot kill human immediately. Many people believe there is something uncover in his death.

Former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has finally said that his dethronement by Kano State Governor was an act of God.

In a short video which was posted on Tuesday, Former Emir of Kano said he expressed satisfaction that he was dethroned and further said it is the way God wants it.

“Everything that has a beginning and end,” the former emir said. “The throne of an emir is not permanent, every king and leader should know this. If it were a permanent throne, I wouldn’t have been the emir of Kano.”

“Before I came, someone was the emir and before him someone else was there, therefore, it’s nothing that would shock anybody. Any person who succeeds me should be accepted by the people of Kano so he can end well.

“God does not make a mistake, whatever he gives is the best, and today don’t be disturbed, whatever thing that God started, it is the end we hope for and may God help this to end well.

“We thank the entire Muslims who have been supporting us year by year, the entire people of Kano and may god help them to continue to live in people. May God give us a good leader and give our land back to us.”

Recall that Sanusi was dethroned on Monday after a long argument with authorities in the state, despite that he still said he feels satisfied with the dethronement.

From what we learnt, his grandfather was also dethroned in 1963 and from fact, his father was a powerful emir during that period.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced 2-week warning strike starting today.

Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, the National President revealed this at the National Executive Council meeting (NEC) held at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).

According to the National President, the strike action was to force Federal Government to implement the agreement of Memorandum of Action signed in 2009 ASUU-FGN and the 2017 Memorandum of Action (MoU) all of which have not been implemented.

The warning strike was due to the non-payment of salaries of lecturers for not enrolled into the Federal Government Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System.

A married woman has done the unthinkable thing after she was caught redhanded in bed with another man in her husband’s matrimonial house.

According to what we learnt, the married woman invited the unknown man into her husband’s house but was caught redhanded by her husband and his family.

A family member recorded a video of her putting only a towel while the unknown man was being interrogated by people present in the video.

From the video, the woman could be seen shouting that the man knows nothing about the whole thing because she was the one who invited him.

A worker has died a painful death after a three-storey building owned by Keystone Bank situated in Ikorodu area of Lagos collapsed in early hours of Saturday.

According to a report gathered from Punch Metro, the collapsed building of Keystone bank happened around 7 pm which hooked the worker there until he was later confirmed dead as a result of the severe pain he went through.

He was the only worker who was confirmed dead, however other workers were reported to have gotten minor injuries too but were treated and later discharged.

Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu who is the General Manager for Lagos State Emergency Management Agency revealed that based on a rigorous investigation, the canopy which was made of concrete that was initially on top of the door level was collapsed due to the weak structure erected.

He further stated that the debris fell on the labourer who was immersed in the renovation at the time.

He stated, “We activated our emergency response plan and moved to the scene.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that a single storey building belonging to Keystone Bank collapsed while being renovated. A male labourer lost his life from the incident. The artisan was polishing the floor tiles when the canopy collapsed on him.

“LASEMA Response Team, Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Building Control Agency and police were at the scene. The concrete canopy attached above door level on ground floor collapsed due to inadequate reinforcement under the weight of concrete. It (concrete) was probably added as an afterthought.”
