Nigerian Former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has told Nigeria and other African countries to urgently ask G7 and G20 for quick debt-relief in order to tackle Coronavirus.

According to the former Minister of Finance, this will help African countries deal with the economic and health issues arising from Coronavirus.

Okonjo-Iweala suggested that the money owed by some African countries could be channelled towards dealing with the economic crisis arising from the outbreak of Coronavirus.

She told the BBC, “We have several sources, the African Development Bank, which is one of them that just floated a social bond for $3 billion to be available to African countries.

“Also, the World Bank has set aside $14 billion ,$2 billion has already beeen committed to 25 countries and 11 of them are Africans. Many of our countries need to move to take advantage of this, and they are willing to commit $150 billion dollars over the next 15 months.

“The IMF has put forward $50 billion as an emergency fund, and already 80 countries have applied for this, many of them African.

“It also has a $1 billion grant fund; catastrophe containment and relief trust, which they can approach. Let me mention my own organisation, GAVI, where I am chair of the board. We have immediately made available a $200 million to $300 million grant.

“Once these monies become available if the countries get debt relief, that means that the monies they would have been paying to service the debt can now be used to obtain food and other necessary supplies to support people in the rural and urban area.

“This can be used by the government as part of an intervention fund to help people directly but needs to be done quickly, the debt relief we haven’t got yet.

“The African countries need to put a lot of pressure on the G7, G20 to come forward with this measure, and then the pressure for the debt relief.”

As the world still fight the deadly coronavirus, Many activities such as sports, schools, markets, social gathering have been shut down in most countries. UEFA has now taken a fresh decision on Champions League and Europa League amidst of the virus.

In the early hours of today, UEFA announced that the Champions League, Europa League and Euro 2020 qualifying playoffs will now be suspended indefinitely since the world is still battling with the deadly virus.

Following a meeting two weeks ago, the 55 member associations that makeup UEFA, hoped to complete all games by June 30, when player contracts expire.

However, today, the decision was made to suspend them indefinitely.

The Euro 2020 qualifying playoffs and international friendlies planned for June have also been postponed.

The Champions League and Europa League are suspended at the round-of 16 stages with Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Atalanta the four sides to have qualified for the quarter-finals.

Manchester City vs. Real Madrid, Juventus vs. Lyon, Barcelona vs. Napoli and Bayern Munich vs. Chelsea are the four round-of-16 second-leg ties have yet to be played.

Recall that a few days ago, Popular Nigerian Singer took to social media to broke the sad news of his wife, Chioma after she was tested positive for deadly Coronavirus which he believed she contracted during one of their trips in overseas.

Due to the rise of Coronavirus Pandemic in the world, the popular Nigerian Singer had to postpone his looming US tour which was initially expected to take place in the month of April.

When he arrived in Nigeria, it was reported that he had to take all his crew for coronavirus testing with results all coming out negative except for Chioma’s own which came out Positive.

Before he took his crew and fiancee for testing, Davido visited Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, for a show where he also met with Governor Seyi Makinde and took pictures with him.

Just before he took his crew and wife for Coronavirus testing, Davido paid a surprise visit to Oyo State where he met with the Governor of the state Seyi Makinde.

Just yesterday evening, Seyi Makinde disclosed to the public that he is now tested positive to coronavirus. He further said that he was actually convinced to take the coronavirus test after the shocking news of the son of former Vice president, Atiku Abubakar tested positive and don’t forget the son attended a rally with the Governor of Oyo State.

With two persons whom Davido has had close contact with coming out positive to the virus, it is best for the singer to take a second test to be certain he hasn’t been infected. This will help save his life or prevent further spread of the virus.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

This comes a week after he was slammed via social media for organising a rally with a popular artiste, Davido performing.

From the record, He becomes the third Nigerian governor to test positive for the virus after Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state.

“I just received my COVID-19 confirmation test result. It is POSITIVE. I am asymptomatic and will continue to self-isolate,” Makinde tweeted on Monday evening.

“I have designated Prof Temitope Alonge, former Chief Medical Director of the University College, Ibadan, as the Head of COVID-19 Task Force while I recover fully. Please continue to comply with all the directives from the COVID-19 Task Force. Stay home, stay safe,” he added.

On Friday evening, Davido broke the news of his baba mama, Chioma being tested positive to Coronavirus Pandemic, also adding that he has also gone into self-isolation.

But in her reaction to this development, Miss Olunloyo said she had forewarned Davido, sometimes ago after he had to cancel his “A Good Time” Tour because of his likely exposure to the coronavirus.

My opinion is focused on[b] Why the Total shutdown may not yield success in Nigeria amidst Coronavirus.[/b]

As we all know that Nigeria has been reporting confirmed cases of Coronavirus daily and from the way things are, the Federal Government are making every necessary effort to mitigate or eradicate this pandemic virus by shutting down markets, schools, companies, public gathering, churches and many others.

According to NCDC, Nigeria currently has 46 confirmed cases of Coronavirus which most cases are from Lagos, Abuja even though one death has been recorded.

At the moment, Most states like Lagos, Ogun, Abuja, Oyo, Ondo, Rivers and many others have already shutdown public gathering, institutions, markets, Airports in a bid to eradicate the deadly virus.

But one question will need to ask is that has the Federal Government make provisions for its citizens?

I am sure the answer is NO

Many Citizens will find it hard to feed their families these time since sitting at home is now the best option to embrace.

Some government workers have not even received their monthly stipends, So tell me how these set of people will take care of their families now?

Most Citizens are dwelling on the daily sales they make from the extra business they venture into but in a situation whereby such market is shut down, what will be left for them?

What I see here is the Nigerian Governments are struggling to compete with other countries that have already shutdown Markets, places of work, Airports and many others.

I am not saying that what the Federal Government is trying to do isn’t nice, What I am after is what are the provisions available for the Citizens since places of work have been shutdown.

ADVICE: I will implore the Federal Government should make provisions available for its citizens so we don’t die of hunger.

Inasmuch we are trying to eradicate this deadly virus disease in Nigeria, every Citizen also deserved to be in a state of comfort.

Popular Nigeria singer, Davido has shared a funny video on how he is currently coping with self-isolation following the recent pandemic of coronavirus in the country.

The father of three has disclosed how he is presently struggling to cope with self-isolation following the spread of coronavirus in Nigeria.

David Adeleke had to self-isolate after he attended a show with more than 50 people in the ancient city of Ibadan on March 21, Saturday, despite warnings by federal and state governments to Nigerians to avoid social gatherings and observe social distancing.

Also recall that Oyo state has recorded one case of coronavirus and from what we gathered, most institutions, centers having to do with social gathering have been shut down to mitigate the spread of coronavirus in Nigeria.

In a video shared on his Twitter handle, the singer showed how he has been coping with self-isolation.


“Isolation don turn me to bricklayer been on this one hour no progress,” he captioned the video.

A Twitter user who is identified as @sfiyyah_a shared a video revealing how her family welcomed her sister when she came back home amidst the outbreak of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

In the video, as soon as the mother opened the gate for her daughter, she made sure some distance was between them, then she handed her wipes to clean her hands. Their father was close by and he also took wipes and used it to wipe down the gate their daughter might have touched, even though she told them she didn’t touch anything.

They also asked her sister to bring out her phone so it could be wiped down.

When they were done wiping her down, they allowed her to go further into the compound, but not into the house. They then asked her to drop her bags outside for further cleaning.

A Nigerian couple has gone viral on social media after they were seen dancing into their wedding reception with no guest amidst the outbreak of Coronavirus.

From what we learnt, The Nigerian couple held their wedding last weekend in an undisclosed place even when there is a ban on public gathering due to the incessant Coronavirus tormenting the country. They were captured in a viral video dancing into their wedding reception with no guest.

However, the real identity of the Nigerian couple who were dancing happily to Burnaboy’s song is still unknown at the time of filing this report.

As Nigeria has recorded 40 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, Most states have shut down schools, social gathering and many others in order to mitigate the spread of the virus.

Recall that the Federal Government has earlier placed a ban on gathering more than 20 people.
