Who is stopping the Governor of Anambra and Delta State from searching for investors? Have they complain to you Buhari is stopping them from constructing a Port?

Buhari gave the go ahead for ports to be built in Warri, Bonny and somewhere in Akwa Ibom more than 2 years ago, only the Lagos State Government was able to get an investor that invested in The Lekki Deep Seaport.

If you have the money, talk to your state Governor, show him your proposal, he will take it to Buhari, and Buhari will surely approve it

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Not Part Of Buhari Regime; Don’t Blame Him: Oshiomhole by treesun: 5:35pm On Aug 03, 2022
TheRareGem1:
Former Edo governor Adams Oshiomhole says Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential flag bearer, has played no part in President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime and as such could not be blamed for any infraction by the government.

“I think in appropriating or apportioning blame or crediting people, you will look at their role. It is a fact that Tinubu himself co-founded the APC. But he never participated in governance,” Mr Oshiomhole asserted during an interview on Arise TV Wednesday morning.

He stressed: “He never held any position in government. He didn’t carry out any contract on behalf of government. So how can you credit him either way?”

Though Messrs Buhari and Tinubu are leaders of the ruling APC, Mr Oshiomhole, a former national chairman of the party insisted that “You cannot say someone who never in any way participated in government be credited with the outcome of government policy or be blamed for same.”

Mr Tinubu, one of the founders of the ruling party will labour to detach himself from the failings of the Buhari regime which he helped install seven years ago, even as he tries to convince the Nigerian electorate to entrust him and his party with the country’s reins of government in the 2023 elections.

Analysts hold that the Buhari-led APC government has failed on all the promises it made on its way to gaining power in 2015. The party campaigned vigorously on a three-pronged mantra of securing the country, providing jobs and fighting corruption.

PoliticsSoldiers Grumble Over Unpaid July Salaries, Knock Buhari by treesun(op): 4:31pm On Aug 03, 2022
Amid biting inflation and rising hunger in the country, some personnel of the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force, on Tuesday night, complained about the delay by the federal government in paying their July salaries.

The Abuja-based soldiers who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity said they and their colleagues are unhappy with the Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)-led Government and Service Chiefs for refusing to pay them their July 2022 salaries, especially because they’ve worked extraordinarily since the Kuje prison break and most recent attacks by non-state actors across the country, especially in the capital city, Abuja.

One of the soldiers said, “This is becoming a norm. It was the same way the federal government delayed the payment of our April salary this year, and now they’re repeating the same. We don’t understand why President Buhari and the military chiefs have refused to pay our salaries as and when due.”

Another soldier said, “We’re tired, but it is quite unfortunate that we can’t complain. We’re being oppressed and cheated, yet there’s no avenue for us to share our grievances. This is getting too much, and I am fed up. I might just resign from the Army if this is how the government would continue to treat us despite sacrificing our time and energy and putting our lives on the stake for this country.

A third soldier, a female personnel with the Nigerian Navy, said, “I wonder how the government wants us to be energetic and go about our duty with rigour despite delaying our salaries. It is really sad that only Nigerian soldiers suffer such humiliation from their government anywhere across the world. What does it take to pay people that are putting their lives at risk to protect a country with over 200 million people?”.

However, when our correspondent reached out to the Nigerian Army’s spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, he noted that some officers have been paid today, Wednesday, August 3, 2022, adding that personnel that are yet to be paid should exercise patient as payment of salaries is ongoing.

Onyema said, “There was a little delay in the payment. However, salaries are now being paid. Many personnel, including myself, have received their salaries today.

“I use this opportunity to appeal to those whose banks are yet to pay them to be a little patient as the payment is ongoing”.

Naval spokesperson, Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, who spoke to our correspondent via WhatsApp, simply noted that Naval officers had been paid today.

Ayo-Vhaugan said, “I have been paid. The Navy has been paid. The payment was disbursed yesterday, but the receipts of alerts vary with each bank. I, however, got mine this morning.”

Efforts to reach the Air Force spokespersons, Air Comm. Edward Gabkwet, proved futile as of the time of filing this report. When contacted, he refused to comment on the issue.

PoliticsBank Borrowing From CBN Rises 27% To N4.5tn by treesun(op): 7:12am On Aug 03, 2022
Amid a rising liquidity crunch, banks operating in Nigeria borrowed a whopping sum of N4.5tn from the Central Bank of Nigeria in July, an increase of 27 per cent Month-on-Month from N3.6tn borrowed in June 2022.

Banks use Standing Lending Facility and Repo lending to access short-term lending from the apex bank.

While the CBN lends money to banks through the SLF at an interest rate of 100 basis points above the Monetary Policy Rate currently at 14 per cent, it also lends money to banks through Repurchase Arrangement (Repo).

Repos are usually considered less risky due to their short-term maturity status and the backing of the government.

In the month under review, the CBN financial data shows that banks borrowing through the SLF dropped by 24.37 per cent MoM to N1.46tn in July, from N1.93tn in June, while borrowing through Repo arrangement rose sharply in July by 86.1 per cent MoM to N3.07tn from N1.65tn in June 2022.

Experts have however expressed that the money market is getting tighter due to macro-economy headwinds.

Related News CBN vows to stop naira fall Rate hikes won’t curb inflation, LCCI warns CBN CBN panel worries over Nigeria debt repayment capacity

The Vice President, Highcap Securities Limited, Mr. David Adnori, expressed uncertainty over the nation’s economy, saying the hike in interest rate and rising inflation rates had forced many banks to the CBN lending window especially in July.

He said, “Banks without liquidity might have trigger the high borrowing from the CBN. Besides, economic uncertainty has started to surface following the 2023 general elections.”

Also, speaking, the Chief Executive Officer, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Johnson Chukwu, linked the development to low liquidity on the part of the banks.

He said, ““The level of involvement of FAAC was not quite high in that month, there was no major inflow into the financial system and in the same month of July, there was a major outflow including the N180bn Dangote loan.

“So those outflows impacted pressures on the bank’s system liquidity that compelled banks to increase their borrowing from the lending facility.”

Meanwhile, further findings showed that banks during the first seven months of 2022 borrowed N13.36tn, representing a decline of 24 per cent from N17.9tn borrowed in the prior seven months of 2021.

PoliticsNigeria On Brink Of Collapse, Says NULGE President by treesun(op): 3:58pm On Aug 02, 2022
The National President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Ambali Olatunji, has said that Nigeria is drifting towards collapse and no longer the country the citizens dream of.

Olatunji who made the remarks at the 7th State Quadrennial Inauguration of the newly elected Executives to run the affairs of NULGE in Kogi State, disclosed that the country is on the brink of collapse.

He said that Nigeria was drifting owing to bad leadership, adding that the last four years under the present administration shows that the country has no one in charge, drifting with nobody in control.

“This is not the Buhari Nigerians voted. Nigerians to pray, rise to the occasion to elect credible leaders in 2023, pointing out that the President has failed to provide security to the nation’s insecurity,” Olatunji said.

He lamented that the country is going through the worst of insecurity, adding that the Federal Capital Territory is now vulnerable to insurgents, a situation he described as a “shame”.

He called on the Minister of Finance and the Central Bank Governor to “with immediate effect resign from office”, since both of them has failed in their responsibility

He described the exchange rate which is on the high, as a shame due to the policy of the financial managers, pointing out that they are allegedly bereft if ideas.

He lamented that Nigeria is now a country that has no one leading, pointing out that 2023 is time to vote out poor leadership, vote for a visionary leaders and not on sentiments.

The NULGE president urged the local government workers to vote only leaders who are in support of local government autonomy.

Olatunji blamed the current challenge of insecurity, joblessness, poverty, insurrection witnessed in the country on poor management in local government administration.

Olatunji said that the time for community policing as solution to insecurity has become apt if the government is determined to save the country.

He called on the APC, PDP and Labour Party presidential candidates to speak on local government autonomy, adding that a vote for local government autonomy is a vote for development.

He charged the new NULGE leadership in Kogi state to be open, transparent, carry everyone along on board of leadership, urging them to continue to be dutiful in service to the members.

He warned council workers in Kogi state against misconduct and wished the new State executives well in the discharge of their assignment to the members.

South South 15.2 million voters

Don't give any idiot opportunity to tell you South East( Ndigbo) doesn't have significant population.

For certain more than 98% of 11.49 million of the registerd voters in South East are nothing but Ndigbo; People of other ethnic groups don't like staying or living in South East.

More than 30% percent South East people are not living in the South East.

Majority of this more than 30% lives in South West.

The rest are in South South and North.

Now, if you take a look at 18.3 million voters from South West you will see that not less than 4 million are South West based South Easterners.

And if you look at 15.2 million voters from South South you will see that not less than 2 million of the voters are South South based South Easterners.

Apart from South South based South Easterners, there are South South people who identify and are Ndigbo.

More than 4 million South Easterners are based in the North. And they registerd there.

If you add all this numbers together you will see that Yoruba actually doesn't have more people than Ndigbo

Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Rivers, Katsina top 31 other states

The total number of registered voters in Nigeria may have risen from 84 million to 96.2 million, The PUNCH has learnt.

This is according to the latest voter statistics released by the Independent National Electoral Commission which states that 12.2 million voters registered in the Continuous voter registration that ended on Sunday.

According to INEC, the North-West geopolitical zone, which comprises the seven states of Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi and Jigawa, with a total of 22.67 million registered voters, has the highest number of registered voters.

As of the 2019 elections, the North-West had 20.15 million voters. However, the latest report released by INEC showed that 2.5 million new voters registered during the recently concluded continuous voter registration, bringing the total number of registered voters in the zone to 22.67 million.

The South-West, which earlier had 16.29 million registered voters, now has 18.3 million, having added 2, 039, 982 new registered voters. The zone comprises Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti and Ondo.

In third position is the South-South which comprises Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Edo and Delta states. The number of registered voters in the zone has risen from 12.8 million to 15.2 million.

The North-Central which is made up of Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, Niger, Kwara and Plateau, now has 14.1 million voters while the North-East which is made up of Yobe, Borno, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe, added 1.5 million new voters to reach 12.8 million registered voters.

The South-East, which is the smallest geopolitical zone, and consists of five states – Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia, Anambra and Imo – now has 11.49 million voters while the number of registered voters in the Federal Capital Territory has increased from 1.3 million to 1.5 million.

Lagos maintained its position as the state with the highest number of registered voters, increasing its figure from 6.5 million to 7.1 million. Kano State also maintained its second position, adding 569, 103 new voters to increase its number to 6.02 million.

Kaduna State now has 4.4 million registered voters while Rivers State has now overtaken Katsina as the fourth largest state in terms of voters. While Rivers now has 3.68 million voters, Katsina has 3.57 million.

Some other states with a sizeable number of registered voters are Delta (3.3 million) and Oyo (3.3 million) Also, Ekiti retained its position as the state with the lowest number of registered voters despite rising from 909, 967 registered voters to 1, 034, 911.

A breakdown of INEC’s report also showed that about 71 per cent of the newly registered voters are youths. Of the 12.2 million newly registered voters, about 8.7 million are between the ages of 18 and 34 while about 2.4 million are between ages 35 and 49. Those between ages 50 and 69 are about 856, 017 while about 127, 541 are over 70.

The statistics also showed that more women registered during the latest CVR than men. While 6,224,866 are women, 6,074,078 are men.

Speaking at the post-election training audit for the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun in Abuja on Monday, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Board of The Electoral Institute, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, said youths and women constituted the majority of voters.

A political analyst, Dr Busari Dauda, said the new composition of registered voters could determine the winner of the presidential election.

He also said this was a signpost that youths were ready to stop recycling old leaders.

Dauda said, “It is not strange. I think we have people who have matured to 18 years and are ready to exercise their franchise. It portends a positive outcome for the country. It is also a signal that in the subsequent general elections, they would decide who they want as leaders in the country as well take over the affairs of the country at the national level and the recycling will stop and someone much younger will one day become the president.

Also in a chat with one of our correspondents, analyst Dare Atoye-Ariyo, who is also the Convener, Coalition in Defence of Nigerian Democracy and Constitution, said the recently concluded Osun State election which led to defeat of an incumbent governor, is evidence that youths are now transforming their online enthusiasm to votes.

“And that’s exactly what we saw in the Osun State governorship elections, ahead of the 2023 elections, there is a possibility that a good number of the new people who have registered this time around are going to vote,” he said.

Atoye-Ariyo added that the fact that the newly registered voters were mostly youths signaled a reawakening.

A new coalition for Peter Obi tagged, Obidient Movement has hit the President Muhammadu Buhari leadership, saying his government looks dazed and clueless.
The group described the President Buhari administration as incapable of taming the deteriorating economic and political situation in the country.
National Coordinating Council (NCC) of the Obidient Movement, headed by leaders drawn from the six geopolitical zones in the country, briefed newsmen in Abuja on Monday.

Ahead of the 2023 flag-off of the presidential campaigns, the group has commenced a nationwide mobilisation.

According to the Obi Movement, Obi’s presidency will address increasing national woes ranging from an intolerable and high unemployment rate to insecurity of lives and property.

Speaking at the press briefing, former chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Dr Tanko Yanusa, said the Obi Movement is on a mission to reset Nigeria to fulfil her foundational mandate.

He said Nigeria under the Buhari government is bedeviled and buffeted by a myriad of security challenges never seen or experienced since “our independence in 1960.

“The country has indeed been confronted with diverse security threats ranging from election violence, census crises, ethnoreligious conflicts, communal clashes, militancy, and terrorism but most of these were either localised or sporadic before this administration.

Unfortunately, what we have been witnessing since 2015 is the amalgamation and molten mix of all these crises, all happening simultaneously, unhindered and in a terrifying fashion across Nigeria.

“Nowhere is safe in the 36 States of the country with road, rail and air travels constituting a nightmare for Nigerians. The country is under the siege of terrorists, bandits and other criminal gangs holding sway over swaths of ungoverned territories from the North to the South, East, and West.

“The most disheartening of these challenges is the fact that there is a well-orchestrated plan by foreign terrorists with their sponsors to cause more havoc and entrench a chaotic atmosphere and a dangerous agenda. While the daily killings and bloodletting of Nigerians have continued unabated under the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government.

“To make matters worse, President Buhari’s Administration from all indications looks dazed, clueless and incapable of taming the deteriorating economic and political situation in the country.

“Similarly, the country’s economy is in shambles with little or no effort to turn things around. Poor fiscal and monetary policies under a largely intellectually docile Minister of Finance and a politically compromised Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor in addition to a non-existent Presidential Economic Management Team have combined to usher in the worst form of inflation, scorched-earth economic policies, free fall of the Naira and badly managed Petroleum Industry, especially the downstream sector.

“Consequently, Nigeria is occupying the unenviable position of the poverty capital of the world with poor development indicators in all spheres of the economy. The high rate of poverty has also exacerbated criminal activities and other forms of vices in society.

“Nigerian students have been kept away from institutions of higher learning as a result of long avoidable strike by the ASUU caused by the lack of education priority of the APC led Federal Government.

“What this ugly scenario shows is that APC and the Buhari administration have failed woefully in all indices and indicators of good governance. They failed miserably to deliver on the three key areas they anchored their administration on, which are to improve security, the economy and the anti-corruption fight.

“The ruling party has broken all the negative records and brought the country to its lowest point. The party has only shown a capacity for propaganda and amplifying actions and decisions that further polarised Nigerians along our faultlines. Another four or eight years under a party that has shown an absolute lack of capacity to govern would destroy this country. And we must collectively rise to stop this NOW.”

Speaking on Obi’s chances, Yanusa said, “Obi has most of the qualities of a hands-on 21st-century leader who understands the dynamics of governance both at the local, national and global levels. He represents a paradigm shift and an ideal for a new Nigeria that youths are proud to champion.

“He is a fill-in portrait of what a 21st century Nigerian President should be, beyond the vagaries of a wasteful elite built on patronage and cronyism. Obi who has had a stellar performance both in private and public office has equally picked another breath of fresh air personality in Dr Yusuf Datti-Ahmed as his Vice.

“The Obidient movement is also not limited to Nigeria as our diaspora community consisting of some of the most brilliant brains in the world are actively involved,” he said.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has kicked against renewed attempts by the Federal Government to add a five per cent excise duty to telecommunication services.

When implemented, this will bring the total tax telecom consumers pay for telecom services to 12.5 per cent.

He disclosed this while speaking in Lagos at the ongoing exhibition organised by the Nigeria Office for Developing the indigenous Telecom Sector, an agency domiciled in the Nigerian Communications Commission.

According to him, the telecom sector already contributes a lot to the Nigerian economy, and adding more taxes could impact negatively its growth.

He urged the government to consider taxing other sectors of the economy that are not contributing to national development.
