Diezani signed crude oil pipelines protection to militants, the yorubas used that as an anti-campaign tool against Gej's govt.
Immediately buhari came in, ameachi told him to terminate the contract ASAP without really balancing its effectives and positivity on the economy and the earnings on the IOC.
Today those same militants are conniving with those who they said where the national and authentic security outfits that can constitutionally protect and defend the pipelines.

Imagine we now doing paltry 1.2m barrels daily so so below the budget benchmark.
And buhari came in to fight corruption and put Nigeria on right pedestal.

PoliticsElumelu: Businesses Are Suffering, Leaders Should Be Held Accountable by treesun(op): 12:12pm On Mar 17, 2022
The Chairman of United Bank for Africa Plc, Tony Elumelu, has stated that businesses in Nigeria were suffering and citizens should hold leaders accountable.

Elumelu noted that despite being a rich country, over 90% of Nigerians lived in hardship and poverty.

In a long Twitter thread on Thursday, the philanthropist berated the country for allowing its citizens to suffer no electricity for days, hikes in the price of diesel, and frightening food inflation.

He said, “This morning, I am listening to my colleagues at the office bemoan the very pressing issues that they face every day in this country, and how things have been getting worse and worse – no electricity for 5 days, hikes in the price of diesel, frightening food inflation, etc.

“How can a country so rich in natural resources have 90% of its citizens living in hardship and poverty? I have often said that access to electricity is critical for our development, alleviation of poverty and hardship. And speaking of security, our people are afraid!

“Businesses are suffering. How can we be losing over 95% of oil production to thieves?

“Look at the Bonny Terminal that should be receiving over 200k barrels of crude oil daily, instead it receives less than 3,000 barrels, leading the operator @Shell to declare force majeure.

“Why are we paying taxes if our security agencies can’t stop this? It is clear that the reason Nigeria is unable to meet its OPEC (Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) production quota is not because of low investment but because of theft, pure and simple!

“Meanwhile, oil-producing countries are smiling as their foreign reserves rise. What is Nigeria’s problem? We need to hold our leaders more accountable!

“Elections are coming – security and resources need to be everyone’s agenda – let’s be vocal for our nation’s priority.

“Evil prevails when good people are silent. We need to be vocal about 2023. Let’s focus on Nigeria. Demand and advocate for leaders that deliver.

“In 2023, Nigeria must be on a strong trajectory for progress and development.”

ogododo:
In his second major move to assert himself as National Chairman, Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni has dumped the national convention sub-committee list earlier adopted by the CECPC acting National Chairman, Gov. Abubakar Sani Bello.

ADVERTISING

He has also removed other members of the CECPC from the Central Coordinating sub-committee, naming only himself and CECPC National Secretary, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe as Chairman and Secretary of the sub-committee.

Bello had, in Buni’s absence, on March 9 inaugurated about 20 sub-committees, declaring their membership composition as final.

However, Buni whose mandate was given a fresh boost by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday via a letter to the APC governors, had in his first major move cancelled the National Executive Committee NEC meeting slated for Thursday.

He followed up on Thursday morning by dumping Bello’s sub-committees and reverting to his own original list.

Bello had in his list dropped some people including Chief Femi Fani-Kayode while he rejigged the composition of the other sub-committees.

However, Gov. Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State who was removed as Chairman of Media and Publicity Subcommittee to head the Finance Subcommittee has now reverted to his initial role courtesy of the new list.

Fani-Kayode has also now been reappointed as Deputy Chairman of the committee as opposed to Bello’s list which had named the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed as co-Chairman.

In the new list, the Buni-led committee also dropped Kano state Governor, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje as Chairman of the Protocol sub-committee, naming instead, the Kogi state Governor as Chairman of the Security/Protocol sub-committee. Ganduje will now revert to his earlier role as Chairman, Subcommittee on Accreditation of Volunteers/Diplomats/Diaspora/ Observers.

Cash crunch

Meanwhile, safe for Buhari’s decision to tow the path of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC on Wednesday, the ruling party was facing a cash crunch, a development which could have threatened the March 26 national convention as well as stalled the payment of staff salaries.

Gov. Buni as National Chairman is the one with the mandate to sign cheques and approve funds for party activities.

Also, the National Secretary, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe who has the powers to approve some funds for the running of the secretariat had refused to do so following his non-recognition by Bello’s camp.

The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, commenced investigative hearing on the N2.6tn owed the Federal Government by 77 oil companies operating in Nigeria.

The House is acting on the 2019 report of the Nigeria Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative.

The Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, threatened that the parliament might be forced to invoke the provisions of the Constitution against company or official who fails or refuses to cooperate with the House on the probe.

Gbajabiamila noted that N2.6tn is a huge sum of money that should not be allowed to go down the drain, especially at a time when the Federal Government is experiencing shortage of revenue to fund its annual budget.

He said, “To underscore the importance of this exercise, let me make a bold statement that if there are companies or individuals that refuse to cooperate with the committee during this exercise, it may be the first time in the 9th Assembly or in the history that I will personally invoke the provisions of the Constitution and have such person arrested. That is how important this exercise is.

The Speaker added, “There is direct nexus between revenue generation and infrastructural development. It is also very important and that is why the House, in its wisdom, decided to put in place an ad hoc committee even though there is a standing committee that works directly in this area. I expect that the deliberation will be thorough and interrogate if it is true that the NEITI report is what it is.”

According to Gbajabiamila, N2.6tn is a significant sum of money under any circumstances, stating that, “When the country is confronting significant revenue shortages, coupled with an overwhelming need to address longstanding developmental challenges, there is a greater obligation on the government to do all that is necessary to recover these sums.”

He said these were the reasons the House resolved to “investigate these debts, conduct a proper reconciliation of accounts between the Federal Government and oil companies, and urge the National Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, the National Oil Spill Detection Agency, and the Federal Inland Revenue Agency to provide the data required to facilitate the recovery of debts owed to the Federal Government by the oil and gas companies.”

Chairman of the committee and Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, decried that why the government was in need of funds to finance the 2022 Appropriation Act, some oil firms were holding on to its revenue.

PoliticsRe: NDLEA Assisted Drug Barons To Ship Cocaine To Nigeria – Abba Kyari Opens Up by treesun: 11:59am On Mar 16, 2022
kirajustice:
POLITICSNIGERIA.COM

Embattled Police Chief, Abba Kyari has claimed that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has been assisting drug dealers to bring in Cocaine into Nigeria.

This newspaper earlier reported that Kyari and four other police officers under the IRT were arrested in February for attempting to bribe an NDLEA officer with $61,000 to facilitate the release of seized cocaine.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that Kyari made the claim in a N500 million fundamental right enforcement suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22.

The disgraced police officer accused the anti-drug agency of assisting drug peddlers to ship in Cocaine into the country. He also stated that he was ‘framed’ by a disgruntled officer of the agency after he went to demand compensation for the whistleblower that gave information that led to the arrest of a suspect.

An affidavit filed by Kyari’s brother, One Mamman Nur, rehashed the claim stating that drugs were being shipped in from Ethiopia with the ‘knowledge of NDLEA officers’.

Narrating the entire situation in the suit, Kyari stated; “That on that fateful day, the suspect as usual shipped drugs (cocaine) from Ethiopia to Enugu Airport. The officer of NDLEA cleared him within the airport, then officer of FIB-IRT arrested the suspect with the help of an information.”

“That before the informant accepted to work with the officers of FIB-IRT, they both had an agreement to compensate the informant.”

“That officers of FIB-IRT, having noticed that officers of NDLEA were the ones clearing the said suspect with his drugs (cocaine), they immediately took the suspect to NDLEA and also reported those officers involved in the act.”

“That instead of the NDLEA to handle the matter accordingly and bring their officers involved to book, they decided to frustrate the informant, thereby refusing to compensate the informant.”

“That it was at this juncture that the attention of the DCP Abba Kyari was called, who because the NDLEA officer involved is his friend, decided to intervene for the purpose of compensating the Informant.”

“That the NDLEA officer who refused to compensate the informant was the one who framed DCP Abba Kyari up on a trump-up allegation that he was trying to bribe him.”

“That the agent of the Respondent declared the Applicant wanted because of a mere allegation that he was trying to bribe an NDLEA officer without sufficient proof.”

“That the Nigerian Police Force, based on the allegation of the Respondent arrested the Applicant on February 12, 2022, and handed over to the NDLEA.”

Kyari’s bail hearing comes up on March 28th at a federal high court in Abuja.

PoliticsBlackout Worsens As National Grid Suffers Second Collapse Within 48 Hours by treesun(op): 9:02pm On Mar 15, 2022
Some parts of the country were on Tuesday thrown into darkness following another system collapse of the National Grid.

The Head, Corporate Communications, Ikeja Electric Plc, Mr Felix Ofulue, confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company also confirmed the partial collapse of the grid in a public notice.

The Electricity Distribution Companies said the collapse of the grid occurred at 5.10 p.m on Tuesday.

They said the collapse had disrupted power supply within their networks with their customers experiencing blackouts.

“Dear esteemed customers, we would like to inform you of another system collapse on the national grid which occurred at 5:10 p.m today (Tuesday).

“We are monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates.

Once again we apologise for the inconvenience,” Eko DisCo said in a statement.

On his part, Ofulue said Ikeja Electric had received notification of the collapse and was waiting for the grid to be restored.

NAN reports that the collapse is happening barely 48 hours after the national grid collapsed at 10.40 a.m on Monday resulting in blackouts in some parts of the country.

Supply was, however, restored to the grid at 12.20 p.m by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

The Lagos State Council Group of Elders of the National Union of Road Transport Workers has asked the national body of the union in Abuja to withdraw the suspension of its Lagos State Chairman, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, within seven days.

The elders issued the ultimatum in a letter to the national body of the union dated March 14, 2022, made available to our correspondent on Tuesday.

They also asked the national body of the union to withdraw a letter appointing another chairman for the Lagos State Chapter of the Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria.

The letter was titled, ‘Resolutions of Lagos State Council of NURTW Elders’ Forum on the current crisis in the Union’.

It was co-signed by Samuel Jonah, Alao Adewuyi, Alamu Otegbeye, Bola Lemboye and Stephen Falusi.

The letter read, “Following the recent crisis rocking the Union in the state, the Elders of the Union met and resolved as follows:

“In order to close the tension, the National Headquarters should withdraw the controversial letter of Appointment of another Chairman for (Keke Maruwa) Tricycles as there cannot be two State Chairman in one State Council. There is no such provisions in the Union Constitution.

“Revoke the suspension letter of the State Chairman which we view as unwarranted at this period in the history of our Union.

“Finally, we expect the withdrawal of these two letters within seven days (7) to enable us conclude the settlement of the crisis once and for all.”

The PUNCH had reported that the national body of the union last Thursday suspended Akinsanya following weeks of protracted conflict and leadership tussle.

The national body had accused Akinsanya of resorting to intimidation, harassment, and assault on the newly-appointed Chairman, Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria, Azeez Abiola, aka Istijabah but Akinsanya refuted the claim that he instigated members of the union to assault Abiola.

He had, however, noted that the legality of the TOOAN operations in the state is a subject of a suit pending before the National Industrial Court.

Subsequently, the NURTW national body in Abuja last Thursday announced the indefinite suspension of Akinsanya for gross misconduct and directed him to hand over to his deputy.

Hours later, Akinsanya at a press conference at the NURTW Secretariat in the Agege area of the Lagos announced his withdrawal and that of lieutenants from the union.

He had also asked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to take over the running of all parks and garages in the state till peace returned to the union.

Sanwo-Olu later suspended the activities of NURTW from all parks and garages with immediate effect and set up a committee to immediately take control of the parks and garages.

TravelRe: Immigration Kicks As Nigerian Passport Ranks Below Niger, Chad, Others by treesun(op): 3:38pm On Mar 15, 2022
Even in Buhari era Chad, Niger passports better than Nigeria, Lalasticala!
TravelImmigration Kicks As Nigerian Passport Ranks Below Niger, Chad, Others by treesun(op): 2:33pm On Mar 15, 2022
The Nigeria Immigration Service on Tuesday in Abuja reacted to a global ranking that placed the Nigerian passport 98th out of 199 countries; below other African states such as Malawi, Niger, Chad, Zimbabwe, Uganda and The Gambia.

It said although it welcomed the ranking, it is more concerned with Nigerian passport’s compliance with the global standards of the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

According to details obtained from Henley & Partners, a London-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm, the passport index published quarterly is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association, which maintains the world’s largest database of travel information.

The recently published Q1 2022 index cross-examined the passports of 199 countries with 227 travel destinations; and ranked these passports based on global access and mobility.

Each passport is scored based on the number of destinations that the holder can access visa-free. This also applies if passport holders can obtain a visa on arrival, a visitor’s permit, or an electronic travel authority upon entry.

Japan and Singapore topped the ranks with passports gaining access to 192 countries. The United States and the United Kingdom ranked seventh while Yemen, Pakistan, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan settled at the bottom five.

Despite emerging 28th globally, the Seychellois passport ranked the highest in Africa, having visa-free access to 152 countries. Botswana and Namibia ranked second and third with 86 and 78 countries, respectively.

Malawi (76th), Niger (90th), Chad (90th) The Gambia (75th), Uganda (76th), Zimbabwe (78th) and Sierra Leone (80th) all ranked above Nigeria and Ethiopia, which tallied at 98th. Despite Nigeria’s position on the list, it rose five places compared to the Q4 2021.

Reacting to the report, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Amos Okpo, argued that visa-free mobility is largely a reflection of bilateral agreements between countries and within regional blocs.

Speaking with our correspondent on Tuesday, he said, “While we appreciate the work done by Henley & Partners, we are more concerned with deepening our passport technology to meet up with the standards of the ICAO; ensuring that our passport complies with ICAO guidelines.”

Okpo argued that Nigeria has been a Public Key Directory of the ICAO since April 2009 and, therefore, sits in a respectable position in the comity of nations.

According to the ICAO, “the Public Key Directory is a central repository for exchanging the information required to authenticate electronic Machine-Readable Travel Documents such as e-Passports, electronic ID cards and Visible Digital Seals.”

The directory which acts as a central broker for this information ensures that information adheres to the technical standards required to achieve and maintain interoperability.

Asserting NIS’ position on Henley’s ranking, Okpo said, “What we put more emphasis on here is our standing in the ICAO. When ICAO alerts us of any lapses with our passports, we get to work. Nigeria has been part of the Public Key Directory since 2009 and it took us complying with several passport security specifications to be reflected on that directory.

“This (Henley & Partners) ranking is based on passport admissibility. And that is largely a function of mutual understanding, reciprocity among countries which does not necessarily reflect the true strength of a passport. A good example is the European Union and the ECOWAS,” he said.

He also noted that when Nigeria joined the ICAO’s PKD, there were only 13 member states; New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, the United States of America, Germany, the Republic of Korea, France, China, Kazahkstan and India.

So far, the directory has 82 participant countries, with Mongolia joining in December 2021.
