PoliticsRe: APC Convention: Adamu Abdullahi Fails To Appear For Screening by treesun: 4:07pm On Mar 23, 2022
augustine77:
The All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention screening committee Tuesday night concluded screening of national chairmanship aspirants, with Senator representing Nasarawa West in the National Assembly, Adamu Abdullahi failing to show up.

The implication is that Abdullahi's name would not be on the ballot as a contender for the position of national chairman at the party's national convention on Saturday.

Those screened by the Governor Aminu Masari-led committee include Senators Sani Musa, Tanko Al-Makura, George Akume and a former governor of Zamfara State. Abdul'Aziz Yari. Also screened were Alhaji Salihu Mustapha and Mohammed Etsu.

Citing "party supremacy" and the zoning of the national chairmanship position to the North Central, an aspirant, Dr. Sani Shinkafi, who like Yari is from Zamfara State, pulled out few hours to the screening excercise.

No reason was cited for Senator Abdullahi's inability to show up, even as the Masari-led commuttee moved on with the screening of other categories of party offices.

Senator Abdullahi had caused a stir when he claimed President Muhammadu Buhari endorsed him as the sole candidate. He also claimed the Senate leadership endorsed him.

APC sources, however, hinted that party elders may have advised Abdullahi to drop his national championship aspiration in view of the controversy his candidacy had generated.

"To begin with, Senator Abdullahi was the last to indicate interest. He opened his campaign office a few days ago. He allowed his state governor Abdullahi Sule and the entire Nasarawa APC endorse Tanko Al'Makura before coming out with his ambition," offered a party elder.

"Even at that, he falsely claimed President Buhari and the Senate leadership endorsed him, prompting the Presidency and the Senate leadership to issue a disclaimer.

"APC had also said they didn't want any candidate with baggage. If you recall, the senator has a running battle with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and AMCON, not to talk of the fact that he's nearly 80 years old. We want a virile party; a party that will meet the expectations of young Nigerians," the chieftain declared.
The beginning of the end!

Nigeria is challenged on all fronts by the evident failure of leadership. This is not just an ordinary failure but a cataclysmic failure that can be most appropriately described as the collapse of leadership. It is cataclysmic because it is a tragedy, awful, terrible, a leadership void of unimaginable proportions. This discourse posits the inextricable link between rights and duties and how this is linked with the current leadership collapse in Nigeria. It asserts that there is no right accruing to any individual, group or political party to assume the powers of the state without a concomitant duty, capacity and attempt at lifting a finger to solve societal problems.

Every Nigerian including the incumbent president, governors, legislators, etc., have a right to aspire to public office. Implicit in this right to offer oneself to be elected to public office is a concomitant obligation to perform the duties of the office once elected and to live up to the oath of office. There is an assumption of nobility of volition and intention for assuming public office. The right of an individual to be elected to public office cannot by any stretch of the imagination trump the rights of millions of Nigerians to good governance, access to education, health, water, energy, etc. Thus, once elected into office, the continued stay in the office after a reasonable period of adjustment is contingent upon good performance which validates the rights of the majority. A mandate freely given by the people is predicated on premises of the common good, for the official to work and be seen to vigorously and meticulously work towards the fulfilment of the rights of fellow countrymen and women.

However, a scenario where persons elected into public office have shown no intention of living up to their oath of office, abdicated their duty and even when reminded by citizens they swore to serve fail, refuse and neglect to change but rather attack and insult persons who seek to call them to order, then the public officials being the mandate holders have by their actions and omissions cancelled the mandate originally given to them. There is no right to occupy an office and instead of providing solutions to the myriad of societal challenges, it complicates and compounds the challenges. The fat salaries, estacodes, allowances approved for these key officials is predicated upon their being put in a position to make life bearable for the ordinary Nigerian. To continue to claim these perks of office while doing nothing or when whatever is being done is not solving the challenges amounts to robbery.

Where do we start this discourse from? We are current witnesses to the latest disgrace in the energy sector where a country richly blessed with hydrocarbons cannot produce or refine one litre of petrol, diesel, aviation fuel or kerosene for domestic consumption or for export. The extant public policy orchestrates the fuel crisis and the resulting suffering by millions of Nigerians. Where is the minister of petroleum resources, what is his plan for bringing this to an end? Busy enjoying the perks of office; he is not bothered one bit about the suffering of the people. The hydrocarbon crisis is compounded by the electricity grid that has suffered so much frequent collapse, providing darkness, unreliable and hallmarks a persistent increase in tariff where Nigerians are forced to pay for the hopeless inefficiency of the electricity cartels. Where is the regulator, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission – evidently pretending to be on duty, drawing huge perks of office without concrete deliverables?

Turn a corner and the education sector is in disarray with the government failing to fulfil its commitments voluntarily entered into with the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities. It has become the yearly accepted norm for government to allow university lecturers to proceed on strike while treating their requests with contempt and disdain. Pray, where is the minister for education? Is he interested in resolving the dispute? Obviously, the answer is in the negative. He is busy setting up a panel to report back in two months after the lecturers have been on a one-month warning strike. Would you blame a man who has no stake in the system for not caring about the resolution of the ASUU strike? With children and wards in universities in Europe and America, young Nigerians schooling in Nigeria can go to hell for all he cares.

At another corner is the massive brain drain going on in our health sector. Our best brains in the sector are leaving in droves whilst the minister of labour, a medical doctor, insists that it is a good development. The once derided consulting clinics have further deteriorated to confirming morgues. The hospitals were not designed to work as high-level health professionals are paid a slave wage. At least prompting, the president boards his jet and heads off to Europe for medical tourism. He has just returned to Nigeria two days ago from one of such trips. And to even show his contempt for over 200 million citizens, he failed to transmit power to the vice president when he travelled for the last medical trip. Despite official statistics which are now based on imaginary depositions, the price of food, energy, transport, etc., has virtually doubled between January and March 2022. Furthermore, the naira has lost ground to many international currencies.

It is therefore imperative to state that a purported four-year mandate is not a mandate to ensure that many Nigerians lose their lives within the four years as has severally happened under the watch of the current president and his team of appointees. It is not a mandate to impoverish, punish and enslave the majority. It is not a mandate to do nothing but simply to enjoy the perks of office. It seems that ministers and executive assistants are appointed for four years certain and do not serve on the basis of their good performance. Once appointed, they stay till the end unlike the practice in previous presidential tenures.

Therefore, Mr. President and members of the federal team, in the name of God, Nigerians beg of you to consider leaving us alone. Resignation is an option. Since you cannot improve our conditions from where you took over, you reserve no right to worsen our predicament. We are tired. You have already dealt us a very bad blow in the economic, educational, health, political and social sectors. The decision is up to you but history beckons.

CrimeRe: Mexican Cartel Dumps Body With 'Frightening' Joystick Message To Rivals by treesun: 10:50am On Mar 18, 2022
ogbiwa:
A deadly drug cartel abandoned a dead body in a binbag with a twisted message to their enemies so they could "see how our d**k feels."

The human remains were found in the early hours of Tuesday morning (March 17) at the side of the San José del Llano bridge in the city of Apaseo El Grande, Mexico.

Images of the body show a bright green piece of cardboard with a message to the enemies of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel placed around the head of the body written across it.

The translation of the message posted on Borderland Beat said: "You piece of sh*t b***h a** Jaliscas. This is so that you can see how our d**k feels here."

"Come on out to that armed confrontation you murderers of innocent civilians. The state of Guanajuato is a territory that belongs to the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel."

The news comes after experts claim that the brutal Jalisco New Generation Cartel has become a “greater force” than El Chapo’s criminal empire, and they are now sending threatening airborne messages.

Citizens from Teocaltiche, Jalisco, a western Mexican state fringing the Pacific Ocean, reported that a plane dropped flyers with a message from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) last month.

The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), led by Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera Cervantes, a former ally of Chapo, operates in at least 35 states across Mexico and Puerto Rico.

In July, authorities estimated the gang oversaw one-third of all drugs being transported from Mexico into the US.

In their aerial letters, that went out to the entire civil society of Teocaltiche, nearby Villa Hidalgo and the authorities, they namecheck Mario González, an alleged operator for the Sinaloa Cartel.

The letter reads: "You are hereby informed that this fight isn’t with you. But it is with the enemy that you have had among you for many years. Who have caused disappearances, extortions, and homicides in the region with the Sinaloa Cartel.

"Made up of Mario González and his mob, in conjunction with some corrupt authorities that have made all their crimes go unpunished.

"That is why the CJNG is cleaning up the region to eliminate all that scum that does so much damage to society, Mario González, along with all your scourges. Stop hiding behind the skirts of the government. Sincerely, CJNG."

I like to believe that people that are campaigning for APC are just clowns looking for a reaction.
But with what I'm seeing especially on nairaland I'm getting bothered.
This people have done nothing but bought pain to us
No electricity
The education sector is a total failure
The infrastructure ( even with the borrowing)
No accountability
No food
No human right

This government have more blood on their hands then any Democratic government in Nigeria history. Let's not forget how a man was arrested for supposedly using the same number as buhari daughter guess she didn't know that numbers are recycled or how buhari son is the only youth corpers serving in aso rock or maybe we should talk about how the first lady had to fly to dubia for her birthday because after living in Nigeria for a week was just a struggle for her or maybe we should talk about how our beloved president really loves UK and can not bare being in Nigeria for more than two days
Maybe we should talk about how our economy is totally ruining but APC has refused to admit failure. you know if there had simply withdraw support from buhari and distance theirselves from his many failure I won't be here typing this rant
Okay let's talk about tinubu a man that has turned a blind to the pains of Nigerians, a man that up till now wasn't even in Nigeria, a man that will go as far as support the devil himself just to be president or should we talk about osinbajo a well known fake pastor or maybe atiku a scammer.
This government has no results even after more than 7 years of power. Buhari will be remembered as a failure and I pray he is immediately arrested by efcc after his term
Fulani herdmen, corruption, poverty and insecurity all increased during his term
Before I go let's not forget that this government thinks Nigerian are stupid, they say whatever they like then praise their savior (buhari) in the process
In all my years I have never seen a government so out of touch with it's people

I don't care if the next president is from East or West, North or south, I just want a president that is present.

Telecommunica-tions services providers under the aegis of the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria have said a tariff review for telco services may happen if the rise in the price of diesel is sustained.

The Chairman, ALTON, Gbenga Adebayo, disclosed this to our correspondent in an interview.

According to him, the telecoms industry is one of the major consumers of diesel in the country.

The sector, he said, had already been impacted by the current hike in diesel prices and scarcity of the product.

He said, “It is already impacting us and very significantly so. We are one of the industries that have the highest consumption of diesel across the country.

“Our need is not just in the major cities; it is all across the country. Diesel is required in all the places that require services. We are already significantly impacted. And it is not just about the high costs, it is also about availability. Suppliers are beginning to find it difficult to supply the commodity because of scarcity.

“When they find, costs of haulage have gone up. The cost of procurement of the diesel itself has gone up significantly. We are actually in a very bad situation. And how this will play in end-user pricing requires us to follow the right channel, the regulatory procedure for conveying our complaint to the regulator.”

According to Adebayo, telcos will continue to ensure that there are no service disruptions in the nation. However, he added that there might be a need for a tariff review if the present diesel crisis persists.

He said, “The diesel situation is a problem at this time. We are doing all that we can to ensure the business continues as usual in all cases and other every circumstance. The assurance for the public is that there would not be a time of outage because of the current diesel crisis. What I cannot assure is that at some point there may not be a consideration for some form of tariff review.

“I cannot guarantee that it will not happen sometime in the near future. I cannot guarantee that. But as it stands today, I will reassure the public that there would be continuous service at all times.

“We will continue to solve the problem to the best of our ability. We certainly need to approach the government for some intervention at some point. We are where we are. All that we are doing at this time is to ensure there are no disruptions to service.”

According to a source in one of the telecoms companies in the nation, the operating environment for telcos is now tougher. The source added that the present crisis might cause service disruptions if it persists.

The source said, “For instance, we have about 20,000 base transceiver stations across the nation, and each one of them has two industrial generators.

“You can imagine what it must be costing to fuel two generators in over 20,000 places. It is a lot. As you are aware, we do not directly manage those stations anymore. But irrespective of who is managing it, the cost has definitely been impacted. Operating is more difficult now.

“In the long-term, this will cause service disruptions. We might have to renegotiate contracts with those helping us manage to the stations. As you know our call rates are regulated, meaning there is a ceiling and a floor. We cannot because of this change our call rates.”

The price of diesel has tilted towards N850/litre, and is continuing to increase daily. In January, diesel was N350 per litre in Lagos.
