Hours after the 2022 Convention of the All Progressives Congress at the Eagles Square, Abuja, Aisha, wife of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Sunday, asked Nigerians to pray for the country.

Aisha made the plea on her verified Facebook page when she posted the hashtag, “#prayfornigeria” alongside an expressionless photo of herself as well as an image of candlelight on a dark background suggestive of mourning mood.

Beneath the candlelight was emblazoned the caption, ‘Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the Best Guardian. The Excellent Protector and the Excellent Helper’.

Aisha, who is reportedly a mother of five children, was away in Dubai for about six months till March 2021 when she returned to the country.

Until recently, she had been vocal in her criticism of the regime of her husband.

In April 2021, Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Kayode Fayemi, described Aisha as the voice of the voiceless.

He had said though the First Lady’s “candour may appear in a manner of indiscretion”, the governors were proud to be associated with her as the defender of the defenceless.

Aisha’s comment on Sunday followed the ratification of the preferred candidate of her husband for the position of the national chairman of the ruling party, Abdullahi Adamu.

The ratification of Adamu, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party, and other members of the incoming APC National Working Committee and Zonal Leaders of the party was part of activities at the convention of the party, which commenced on Saturday and ended in the early hours of Sunday at the Eagles Square, Abuja.

Many critics including the PDP have faulted the emergence of Adamu whom they claimed had been arraigned in court on 149 counts of alleged fraudulent award of contracts and stealing of public funds estimated at N15bn.

SportsRe: Thomas Partey Meets His Lookalike In Ghana by treesun: 10:06pm On Mar 27, 2022
ogbiwa:
Thomas Partey met incredible lookalike 'Thomas After Partey' while on international duty, leaving fans - and his Ghana team-mates - in fits of laughter.

The Arsenal midfielder was with the Ghana side ahead of their World Cup Qualifying first-leg draw in Kumasi with Nigeria when he met his clone. Footage showed the player next to someone who struck a huge resemblance to the 28-year-old, with his team-mate Kofi Kyereh posting the video on his Instagram story. The clip shows Partey decked out in Ghana training gear with his arms around his lookalike, who is wearing the Arsenal warm-up top.

Supporters on social media chimed in with just how similar the pair looked. One said: “When you’re popular you’ll surely find your look alike.

Another wrote: "Nah this guy looks more like Thomas than Thomas."

Another asked: "How is it even possible?"

One quipped: “If this guy goes to Arsenal camp I swear they will think he is partey and start him in a match.”

Partey, who claimed the club's player of the month gong for February, has been enjoying a fabulous period for the north London side this year. He played exceptionally well against Leicester earlier this month, a match in which he scored the opening goal before hitting the woodwork.

Arsenal will be hoping the recent displays will mark a turn of fortune for the player who has for so long been hampered by injury. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, has spoken about the need for communication to achieve results. Arsenal find themselves in a Champions League spot with just ten games remaining and a lot of praise has been directed Arteta's way as a result.

PDPdestroyer:
President Muhammadu Buhari and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, are expected to attend the 13th session of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu colloquium.

In a statement on Friday, Gbenga Omotoso, chairman of the media and publicity sub-committee of the colloquium, said the event will take place on March 29.

He said Olufemi Bamiro, former vice-chancellor of University of Ibadan; and Temie Giwa-Tubosun, group chief executive, Life Bank, are expected to speak at the colloquium.

He added that this year’s edition, which will also mark Tinubu’s 70th birthday, will examine global development issues and the importance of good governance for Nigeria.

"Organisers of the annual Bola Tinubu colloquium have announced that this year’s edition will examine emerging global development issues and the importance of good governance for Nigeria to be an influential and respected member of the international community,” the statement reads.

“The colloquium, which is in its 13th edition, will take place on Tuesday 29th March, 2022 at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. It will be presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari as chairman. Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is the chief host.

“Professor Olufemi Bamiro, former Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, the keynote speaker, is expected to engage the central theme, ‘Pivoting Nigeria into the new world order: Imperatives of Good Governance’.

"The colloquium will also feature a panel session where some of Nigeria’s leading technology entrepreneurs will discuss on ‘Technology, Entrepreneurship and the Future of Work’.

“The panel discussion to be moderated by Tomilayo Akanni-Aluko will have Bosun Tijani, Chief Executive Officer of Co-Creation Hub, as the Lead Discussant. Other panelists include Samson Ogbole, Managing Director, Soiless Farms; Temie Giwa-Tubosun, Group Chief Executive, Life Bank; Kikelomo Fola-Ogunniya, Co-founder, Jand2Gidi and Lot Madaki, Chief Executive Officer, Madaki Shoes.”

Speaking on the essence of the colloquium, Omotoso described Tinubu as “an extraordinary statesman who has committed himself to making Nigeria one of the most prosperous nations”.

“The theme speaks to the person and values of Asiwaju Tinubu. To celebrate his 70th birthday, this year’s colloquium theme is most appropriate,” Omotoso added.

“We are talking about an outstanding public servant, who is an advocate of good governance in Nigeria and Africa. He demonstrated this as Governor of Lagos in 8 years where he laid the solid foundation for the progress and prosperity of Lagos State that we all talk about today.”

PoliticsUS Sanctions 6 Nigerians For Supporting Boko Haram (Full List) by treesun(op): 6:50pm On Mar 25, 2022
Six Nigerians have been sanctioned by the United States for allegedly supporting Nigeria-based terrorist group, Boko Haram

The US, in a statement, listed the individuals as Abdurrahman Ado Musa, Salihu Yusuf Adamu, Bashir Ali Yusuf, Muhammed Ibrahim Isa, Ibrahim Ali Alhassan and Surajo Abubakar Muhammad.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control also included Musa, Adamu, Yusuf, Isa, Alhassan and Muhammad to the List of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons.

Part of the statement read, “Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control designated a network of six individuals connected to Nigeria-based terrorist group, Boko Haram. All six were found guilty of establishing a Boko Haram cell in the United Arab Emirates to raise funds for and provide material assistance to Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria.

“OFAC’s action follows arrests, prosecutions, and designations in the UAE in September 2021, demonstrating the commitment of the Emirati government to using judicial measures and targeted financial sanctions to disrupt the flow of funds to these networks.”

The statement quoted US Secretary of the Treasury, Brian Nelson, as saying that with the action, the US joined the UAE in targeting terrorist financing networks of mutual concern.

“Treasury continues to target financial facilitators of terrorist activity worldwide. We welcome multilateral action on this Boko Haram network to ensure that it is not able to move any further funds through the international financial system,” he said.

Executive Order (E.O.) 13224

OFAC said it designated Abdurrahman Ado Musa, Salihu Yusuf Adamu, Bashir Ali Yusuf, Muhammed Ibrahim Isa, Ibrahim Ali Alhassan, and Surajo Abubakar Muhammad pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13224, as amended, which targets terrorists, leaders, and officials of terrorist groups, and those providing support to terrorists or acts of terrorism.

“The U.S. Department of State designated Boko Haram as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist on November 14, 2013,” it added

Boko Haram’s UAE Network

The UAE Federal Court of Appeals in Abu Dhabi had convicted Abdurrahman Ado Musa, Salihu Yusuf Adamu, Bashir Ali Yusuf, Muhammed Ibrahim Isa, Ibrahim Ali Alhassan, and Surajo Abubakar Muhammad for transferring $782,000 from Dubai to Boko Haram in Nigeria.

“Salihu Yusuf Adamu and Surajo Abubakar Muhammad were sentenced to life imprisonment for violations of UAE anti-terrorism laws; Abdurrahman Ado Musa, Bashir Ali Yusuf, Muhammed Ibrahim Isa, and Ibrahim Ali Alhassan were sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by deportation.

“Today’s designations will prevent these individuals’ funds from being used further to support terrorism,” the statement added.

Sanction implications

The US department said as a result of today’s action, all property and interests in property of the individuals named above, and of any entities that are owned, directly or indirectly, 50 percent or more by them, individually, or with other blocked persons, that are in the United States or in the possession or control of U.S. persons, must be blocked and reported to OFAC.

The statement read, “Unless authorised by a general or specific license issued by OFAC or otherwise exempt, OFAC’s regulations generally prohibit all transactions by U.S. persons or within the United States (including transactions transiting the United States) that involve any property or interests in property of designated or otherwise blocked persons.

“Furthermore, engaging in certain transactions with the individuals designated today entails risk of secondary sanctions pursuant to E.O. 13224, as amended. Pursuant to this authority, OFAC can prohibit or impose strict conditions on the opening or maintaining in the United States of a correspondent account or a payable-through account of a foreign financial institution that knowingly conducted or facilitated any significant transaction on behalf of a Specially Designated Global Terrorist.

“The power and integrity of OFAC sanctions derive not only from its ability to designate and add persons to the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List (SDN List), but also from its willingness to remove persons from the SDN List consistent with the law.

“The ultimate goal of sanctions is not to punish but to bring about a positive change in behavior.”

– Over the last seven years we have done our best to deliver good governance to the country. We have guaranteed national food security, we have provided modern infrastructure to kick-start economic growth and we have implemented the most comprehensive social welfare programmes in our history.

What has come upon Buhari and his lieing party!
PoliticsNational Convention: What Buhari Told APC Govs During Meeting At Aso Rock by treesun(op): 10:47am On Mar 24, 2022
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Wednesday, met behind closed doors with governors of the All Progressives Congress over the forthcoming National Convention of the party, slated for March 26.

A copy of his speech obtained by The PUNCH showed that the president told the governors 11 things during the meeting.

The president, who reiterated his stand on consensus candidates, directed that “all those who have bought forms indicating interest and have been dropped should have their money refunded without delay”.

Here are some of the things he discussed with the governors:

– Your Excellencies, I would like to express my gratitude to you all for the work you have done and are doing and your continued partnership and fortified alliances with the Federal Government over the years.

– When we came together to form the All Progressives Congress, nearly eight years ago our goal was National Salvation, our resolve was unshakable, our motivation was patriotic and noble.

– Consequently, by the Grace of God we were rewarded with victory in the 2015 General Elections in a free and fair election.

– Over the last seven years we have done our best to deliver good governance to the country. We have guaranteed national food security, we have provided modern infrastructure to kick-start economic growth and we have implemented the most comprehensive social welfare programmes in our history.

– Along the way, our party has survived shocks and attempts to derail it. Our government has also had to endure the worst economic crisis with the free fall of oil prices from an average of $100 per barrel over 15 years of PDP government to an average of $30 – $50 until the recent energy crisis.

– We need to remind ourselves of these achievements and not be diverted by petty quarrels and unseemly jockeying for positions. It will be very sad and regrettable development if these manifest gains are frittered away as a result of internal dissent and rivalry. We must avoid narrow focus and inordinate personal ambitions at the expense of our party’s common good. We must stop frivolous and diversionary litigation when the Party’s reconciliation processes are available for settling disputes.

– We must restore sanity and purpose in the affairs of our party and lead ourselves to victory and safety.

– As I remarked when I met Your Excellencies in February 22nd, our aim must be to hand over to an APC Government at the Center and the great majority of states. We must not, by default allow the PDP to get its dirty hands on Government again and return us to the Stone Age.

– As I said at that meeting, our Party chose its leadership by consensus. I again plead that we choose our next leadership by consensus. This is consistent with the spirit of democracy, the Party’s Constitution and the Nigerian Constitution.

– I have already given my own input and other recommendations on the way forward in both my 25th February, 2022 meeting with the Chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Committee and my 13th March, 2022 letter to the Chairman of the APC Governors Forum.

– With the convention only two days away I implore you to come together and sort out all the remaining party positions so that within the next 24 hours we can arrive at a Unity List which we can take to the convention.

– Finally, all those who have bought forms indicating interest and have been dropped should have their money refunded without delay.
