seunmsg: Tomorrow, the real anointed candidate will declare and all presidential aides can’t hide their excitement. Media aide to the president, Bashir Ahmad tweeted about it earlier today. It will be massive.
Whatever the case is, we insist on a free, fair and credible primary election. Osinbajo is my first choice but he should win the ticket of the party by popular acceptance of party members and not through any undemocratic imposition.
Best of luck Mr. Vice President. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that you will make a good president. For me, it’s all about having a strong, competent and patriotic southerner who can take the needed tough decisions to move the county forward in 2023. Anything but APC! |

Several people have been reportedly abducted by gunmen suspected to be bandits in Danjanku village, Musawa Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned from residents that the bandits stormed the community in the early hours of today, Friday, and operated for many hours.
On arrival at the village on motorcycles, the gunmen started shooting indiscriminately. They abducted some locals and escaped with them into the forest.
Katsina, the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari, has witnessed sporadic attacks by bandits and kidnappers that have claimed the lives of many.
Over 700 people have been reportedly killed by the gunmen in Jibia, Kankara, Dutsinma, Musawa, Danmusa and Safana local government areas of the state in the last five months.
In January, President Buhari promised to smoke out the bandits terrorising Nigeria’s northern region.
“In keeping with my commitment to tackle the monster of terrorism head on, let me reassure these besieged communities and other Nigerians that this government will not abandon them to their fate because we are more than ever determined to get rid of these outlaws.
“These criminals will be history because we are not going to relent in our current military operations to get rid of these thugs who have been terrorising innocent people. “We are fiercely determined to smoke out and destroy these outlaws who have no regard for the sanctity of life,” President Buhari had said. https://politicsnigeria.com/breaking-bandits-attack-buharis-home-state/amp/

NaijaCoverBlog: A Yet-to-be-identified man believed to be around 60 years old, has committed suicide at Gaida Yankusa in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano state.
According to residents of the area, they found the man hanging while on their way to the mosque to observe morning prayer on Wednesday, April 6.
Speaking to Daily Trust, a resident of Yankusa, Laminu Abubakar said they untied the man and had done everything possible to identify him but to no avail.
We just came out and saw the corpse hung to the tree. He’s an elderly person, he looks responsible and shows no sign of poverty. Maybe some other issues. His hair is full of grey hair from his head to his beard,” he said.
It was also gathered that the deceased body had been taken by the police and the district head of Kumbotso to the mortuary at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa in a late Wednesday voice note said the police received the report of the tragedy around 9am and immediately mobilised a team of policemen to the scene who rushed him to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Foreign Affairs › Ketanji: US Senate Confirms First Black Woman To Supreme Court by treesun(op): 9:20pm On Apr 07, 2022 |
The United States made history on Thursday as the Senate confirmed Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first Black woman ever to serve on the Supreme Court. The 51-year-old’s appointment means white men will not be the majority on the nation’s high court for the first time in 233 years. President Joe Biden called it a “historic moment for our nation.” “This milestone should have happened generations ago… but we are always trotting on a path towards a more perfect union. Nevertheless, America today is taking a giant step towards making our union more perfect,” Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said. https://punchng.com/ketanji-jackson-us-senate-confirms-first-black-woman-to-supreme-court/“People sometimes talk about standing on the shoulders of giants; well, Judge Jackson will go down in history as an American giant upon whose shoulders others will stand tall. And our democracy will be better off for it.” Jackson picked up support from three Senate Republicans during a grueling and at times brutal confirmation process, delivering Biden a bipartisan, 53-47 approval for his first Supreme Court nominee. It is a huge moment for the president, who chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee in the 1980s and 90s, meaning he has the unprecedented distinction of both naming and overseeing the appointment of a Supreme Court justice. Crucially, it has allowed Biden to show the Black voters who rescued his floundering 2020 primary campaign that he can deliver for them following the recent defeat of voting rights legislation. At 42 days, the confirmation will be among the shortest in history, although longer than it took to seat Donald Trump’s last court pick during his presidency, Amy Coney Barrett. – Guardian of the Constitution -As the final word on all civil and criminal legal disputes, as well as guardian and interpreter of the Constitution, the Supreme Court seeks to ensure equal justice under the law. It is also a check on the power wielded by the other branches of government and the arbiter of disputes covering all aspects of American life, from religious liberty and voting rights to gun ownership and abortion access. Four of the justices on the nine-member court will be women once Jackson takes her seat, making it the most diverse bench in history — although they all went to law school at Harvard or Yale. Of the five men on the bench, four are white, and Clarence Thomas is African American. Jackson, who watched the vote at the White House with Biden, is the only nominee of a Democratic president to be confirmed since Elena Kagan in 2010. She replaces the retiring liberal Justice Stephen Breyer, for whom she clerked at the turn of the century. So while her confirmation is a milestone, it won’t change the 6-3 conservative majority on the court, and that took some of the sting out of a fight that could have been even more vitriolic. – ‘Corrosive politicization’ -Nevertheless Schumer, who has had to endure a 50-50 Senate longer than any majority leader in history, had to steer Jackson through a contentious and emotionally draining confirmation process. Republicans accused the Washington appeals court judge of being “soft” on child pornographers, despite her sentencing record being in line with other federal judges. Others implied that she was sympathetic to terrorists due to her work as a federal public defender representing Guantanamo Bay detainees and one even suggested that she would have been sympathetic to Nazi criminals. Lisa Murkowski, one of a Republican trio of Jackson backers, said in a statement her endorsement was a “rejection of the corrosive politicization of the review process.” Another Republican Jackson supporter, Susan Collins, lamented how partisan the process had become, noting that senators used to give presidents from the opposing party more deference on Supreme Court picks. “This is the approach that I plan to continue to use for Supreme Court nominations because it runs counter to the disturbing trend of politicizing the judicial nomination process,” she said. While the process was highly divisive, Jackson has maintained strong backing among the voters paying attention to her confirmation. A new Politico/Morning Consult poll showed almost half of voters said the Senate should support her. Just 26 percent don’t think she should get a yes vote, while 25 percent had no opinion. “As you are aware Mr. Speaker, the new development both in the global economy as well as the domestic economy has necessitated the revision of the 2022 fiscal framework on which the 2022 budget was based.
“The total budget deficit is projected to increase from N965.42 billion to N7.35 trillion representing 3.99 percent of the GDP.
“The increment of deficit will be financed by new borrowings from the domestic market.

The National Union of Road Transport Workers Union has lost Lagos State and should not bother engaging in comic sessions such as sacking ex-chairman of the union in the state, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo.
Akinsanya’s Media Aide, Jimoh Buhari, made this known in a chat with The PUNCH on Wednesday while reacting to the purported sacking of his principal.
According to him, members of the Tajudeen Baruwa-led NURTW caucus in Abuja are comedians who claimed to sack Akinsanya who already pulled out of the union on March 10, 2022.
He said, “The so-called sacking of my boss makes no difference. NURTW has already been suspended in Lagos and the state government has said that it would appoint park managers in the state.
“So, the appointment of a new Lagos chairman by NURTW is baseless. The union has already been suspended. Is the union more powerful than the state government? Of course, no.
“Also, my boss (MC Oluomo) already pulled out of the NURTW since March 10, 2022, at a well-publicised press briefing in Agege. So, how would the Baruwa-led Abuja caucus claim it has sacked someone who already dissociated himself from the union? It is like sacking a worker who resigned and left a company after one month. It is laughable and senseless.”
The PUNCH had earlier reported that following the crisis rocking the union, Akinsanya pulled out in March after his suspension by the national leadership of the NURTW.
He also asked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to take over the running of all parks and garages in the state till peace returned to the union.
Sanwo-Olu later suspended the activities of NURTW from all parks and garages with immediate effect and set up a committee to take control of the parks and garages but he was yet to do so after one month.
The NURTW had also been suspended in Ondo, Oyo and some other South-West states due to intractable leadership crises.
According to a 2021 report by the International Centre for Investigative Report, the Lagos chapter of NURTW generates about N123.08bn annually, which could service the annual budget of Nasarawa, Niger, and Yobe states put together. https://punchng.com/nurtw-already-lost-lagos-sacking-mc-oluomo-after-withdrawal-from-union-big-joke-aide/

ogododo: The son of DIG Ibrahim Mamman Tsafe (rtd), incumbent Commissioner of Security and Home Affairs in Zamfara, has been shot dead.
Daily Trust understands that Tsafe’s son alongside three others were killed when bandits invaded Tsafe town, headquarters of Tsafe local government area of the state, on Sunday night.
In recent time, Tsafe town and several other communities in the local government have witnessed spikes in the deadly assaults and kidnapping for ransom .
Two months ago, a resident and a customs officer were killed in separate attacks on the town.
Last February, the armed men shot dead a muezzin while he was calling for subhi prayer in Magazu, a community just 5km south of Tsafe town.
The bandits believed to be fleeing military operations in some parts of the states are gradually turning parts of Tsafe local government to their new safe havens.
Residents told Daily Trust that the criminals clad in military uniforms stormed Shiyar Namada area close to the commissioner’s residence and opened fire on people.
“Some residents who had earlier spotted them mistook them as security operatives on routine patrol. Some of them didn’t bother to raise alarm”
“The commissioner’s son, alongside some other people were seated at the frontage of DIG Ibrahim Mamman Tsafe’s residence during iftar when suddenly the armed men showed up and started firing at every one on sight.
“During the attack most people observing Tarawih prayer in several mosques around the area and residents had to flee to safety. The armed men later withdrew into the forest. As I’m talking to you I’m at the Waziri’s residence where preparations for their funeral are underway,” a resident simply identified as Umar said.
Some residents told our correspondent that the attack might be reprisal as a suspected bandit, who was seen at the outskirt of the town last Friday, was beheaded by the local vigilante otherwise known as Yan Sakai.
The spokesman of the state police command, SP Muhammad Shehu, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.
Efforts to get the commissioner’s response also failed
