seunmsg: Good! People should go about their normal businesses. Subsidy stays till the next administration is inaugurated. By then, Dangote refinery would have come on board and the economic effect of Covid-19 would have been drastically reduced globally. The next government will be in a good position to make a better and more informed decision on what to do with subsidy. Muntairu, you are defending payment now. Dangote will not serve any purpose, just like the cement, sugar, pasta production didnot do anything to reduce the price! Subsidy is a scam, even Buhari knows this, but the backlash is their fear! |

Politics › FG’s Local Currency Debts To Hit ₦44 Trillion In 2022 by treesun(op): 12:47pm On Jan 25, 2022 |
A report by Agusto & Co. Limited has estimated that the Federal Government’s local currency debts will rise to N44tn in 2022.
This was disclosed in a report, titled ‘Nigeria in 2022’, on the economic outlook for 2022.
It said, “Local currency debts of the FGN [Federal Government of Nigeria] will grow to about N44tn or about 9X of its revenues. The median for key countries in sub-Saharan Africa is about 2X.
“Because of the high cost of servicing these debts at commercial rates, the Central Bank of Nigeria will continue to accommodate the FGN by lending to them at rates below inflation, thus reducing FGN’s borrowing requirement from the markets and put a downward pressure on interest rates as banks, pension funds, insurance companies and other institutional investors compete for government securities.
“The average yield on FGN’s 10-year US$ bonds was 7.1 per cent in 2021 compared to 1.4 per cent for those issued by the government of the USA. This translates to a country risk premium of 5.7 per cent. We believe that this risk premium will be about 5.0 per cent in 2022 as fears about COVID-19 recede and the fact that Nigeria has ample resources to service its FCY debts. However, this premium may spike if there is a flight to safety by investors.”
According to the report, federation account revenues should grow by about 15 per cent in 2022.
It said the bulk of the growth would come from Value Added Tax and Companies’ Income Tax.
It said the Federal Government’s share of these revenues and its independent revenue would be about N5tn under most aggressive estimates.
The report said the Federal Government should be able to borrow another N8tn to augment its spending.
It said obligatory spending (interest on loans, statutory transfers and payroll & unfunded pensions) would total about N11tn.
The bulk of the remaining funds would go to capital expenditure, which it estimated at not more than N3tn. https://punchng.com/fgs-local-currency-debts-to-hit-n44tn-in-2022-says-report/

The Blue Line Rail project is the flagship transport project of the Lagos state government. Blue Line project is a 27-kilometre rail route designed to run from Okokomaiko eastwards to Mile 2, and then proceeds to Marina via Ijora.
A major part of the rail alignment runs in the middle of the ongoing Lagos Badagry Expressway (LBE) road expansion development from Okokomaiko to Iganmu before ascending on an elevated railway bridge to the National Theatre, and proceeds via Ijora to Marina. Hosts Cameroon and debutants Gambia were the second set of teams to progress to the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after wins over Comoros and Guinea.
It was a day that saw Chaker Alhadhur keep goal impressively for Comoros, Vincent Aboubakar do what Vincent Aboubakar does for Cameroon, and both Guinea and Gambia get red carded, has come to an end. But what lessons were learnt from Monday’s games?
Gambia are sticking to their manual Gambia continued their fairy tale run at the AFCON with a 1-0 win over Guinea. A win that did not entirely come as a surprise as the Scorpions matched Guinea strength for strength for most of the game. |

Politics › Bogoro Crisis: Dogara Stripped Of Traditional Title In Bauchi by treesun(op): 1:57pm On Jan 24, 2022 |
A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has been suspended by the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Adamu, as Jakadan Bauchi.
The suspension followed the attacks on the convoys of the Emirs of Bauchi and Dass, Biliyaminu Othman, on December 31, 2021, by hoodlums on their way to Mwari for the 21st anniversary of a late leader and crusader, Peter Gonto.
Adamu, while speaking to journalists at a press conference in his Palace on Monday, said the suspension is with immediate effect.
The monarch, who was represented by the Galadiman Bauchi, Sa’idu Jahun, said, “More surprisingly, he did not sympathise nor showed any sign of remorse towards what happened to their Royal Highnesses, the Emirs of Bauchi and Dass.
“The Emirate Council, therefore, decided to suspend his title of Jakadan Bauchi until the determination of the case by the court.”
The PUNCH had reported that the convoys of the two Emirs who were on their way to a book launch/anniversary lecture and Foundation launch, of Gonto, when they were attacked after it turned violent and had to turn back to Bauchi with some vehicles in their convoys damaged. The windscreen of the Emir of Dass was among the vehicles partly destroyed.
Dogara, who represents Dass/Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro Constituency in the House of Representatives and is in his fourth term, had written a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, informing him of security threats if the event is allowed to hold.
But despite the warning, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda, gave approval for the event to hold just as he ordered the full deployment of police tactical teams to provide security to lives and properties before, during and after the memorial anniversary and book launch of the grandfather of Dogara’s wife.
Shortly after the memorial lecture and book launch commenced at the Government Secondary School, Mwari in Bogoro LGA, women and youths besieged the venue of the event forcing it to end abruptly.
They later set the venue on fire burning down chairs, canopies, musical equipment and many other properties. Ten houses were later confirmed by the Bauchi State Police Command in a statement, as having been burnt during the crisis. https://punchng.com/bogoro-crisis-dogara-stripped-of-traditional-title-in-bauchi/

The Eagles are hoping to progress to the quarter-finals for the first time since 2013, but they will be up against a stubborn National Thunder side
Mali will face off with Equatorial Guinea in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 match at the Limbe Stadium on Wednesday.
The Eagles are hoping to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2013 when they finished third in South Africa. Mali have the edge over Equatorial Guinea heading into this encounter based on their pedigree in Afcon finals and current form.
The 1972 Afcon runners-up remain one of their few teams that are undefeated in this year's tournament. The West African side finished at the top of Group F after accumulating seven points from three matches including wins over Tunisia and Mauritania.
They will take on an Equatorial Guinea side that is looking to continue its good record of reaching at least the quarter-finals each time they participate in the Afcon finals. This is National Thunder's third appearance in the tournament having finished fourth in 2012 as co-hosts, before being eliminated in the quarter-finals as the sole hosts in 2015.
The Central African side had a slow start to the ongoing competition as they lost to Ivory Coast in their first match, but wins over Algeria and Sierra Leone earned them the runner-up spot on the Group C standings and they will be looking to make it three wins in a row when they face Mali. |

Politics › I’ve Been Receiving Threat Messages For Not Supporting Tinubu’s Ambition – Ojudu by treesun(op): 3:50pm On Jan 18, 2022 |
The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Babafemi Ojudu, says he has been receiving threat messages from “irritants” for declaring that he won’t support the presidential ambition of All Progressives Congress National Leader, Bola Tinubu. Ojudu stressed that his decision not to support Tinubu was based on personal conviction, adding that any coercion to do otherwise would not be democratic. In a statement on Tuesday, Ojudu, who works in the Office of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), said his refusal to support the presidential aspiration of the former Lagos State governor should not portray him as a betrayer. According to the statement titled, ‘Principled Political Choices are not Betrayal’, the presidential aide said though he had benefited from Tinubu’s kindness in the past, he was not made by the APC leader. Ojudu wrote, “The idea that everyone who has related with Tinubu and disagrees with him on this Presidential bid is a traitor and a betrayal is puerile. Many of us, his associates, were not made by him as you also want the world to believe. “We were already made before meeting him and in the cause of relating we gave one another a helping hand… So, on this matter of 2023 I wish him (Tinubu) well but I cannot in good conscience give him my support or cast my vote for him in the coming primary. It is my right. I am above 60 years of age for God sake. I almost died seeking this inalienable democratic rights, held up in detention and severally tortured. Your god is not my god. “Let no one think he can browbeat or blackmail me to do what does not go with my conscience or my ideals. Enough of your phone threats and embarrassment of my family members.” “For the irritants who have been sending threat messages to me and members of my family or calling to abuse me for not supporting Tinubu, do know that is not democracy. It is something else. I spent my youth years fighting autocracy and intolerance of the military and I am still willing and ready, even now, to stand up for what I believe, even if it will cost me my life. Enough said,” he added. https://punchng.com/ive-been-receiving-threat-messages-for-not-supporting-tinubus-ambition-ojudu/ |
