Foreign Affairs / Trump's Director Of Communications, Hope Hicks, Resigns by TrendTopStries: 7:49am On Mar 01, 2018
New psychodrama at the White House. This time, it is the director of communication who resigns, a position she was already the third to occupy in 13 months. Hope Hicks, however, was a loyal Trump faithful, with whom she had been working for many years. The 29-year-old discreet young woman was heard on Tuesday in the case of Russian interference during the election campaign.
Spicer, Dubke, again, Scaramucci, and now Hope Hicks ... not easy to lead the communication of Donald Trump, who will have to find a fifth director in a little more than a year.

However, if the first three left on bad terms with the presidency, it is still unclear why Hicks, a former model of the Trump family for a long time, leaves the White House. Is it following the case Rob Porter, this counselor became his boyfriend, fired when it discovered the accusations of conjugal violence on his two former wives?

Foreign Affairs / Oxfam Case In Haiti: The British Government Gets Involved by TrendTopStries: 10:50pm On Feb 11, 2018
British aid organization Oxfam is accused of covering up prostitution. It all started with a survey published on February 9 by the British daily The Times, Oxfam employees hired young prostitutes in 2011 in Haiti during a mission following the earthquake that ravaged the country in 2010 and has nearly 300,000 dead. British Minister for International Development Penny Mordaunt is due to meet with Oxfam officials on Monday.

The British government threatens to end its financial cooperation with the Oxford-based NGO since an investigation published by the British newspaper The Times revealed the extent of the scandal. Oxfam is suspected by the government of failing to provide all the information available to it and to have tried to cover the facts.

Technology Market / Canada: A New, Faster And Cheaper Anti-doping Technique by TrendTopStries: 9:52am On Feb 11, 2018
The Olympic Winter Games opened Friday in South Korea as doping controversies resurface. There is the Russian file, of course, this report on cross-country skiing which states that 290 athletes presented "abnormal" blood data between 2001 and 2010. The sports authorities explain that the control procedures are heavy and that it is impossible to monitor everyone. This might change: a team of researchers at the University of Waterloo has developed a new, faster, and much cheaper technique.

A urine and blood test now takes about thirty minutes and costs several tens of dollars per sample. With this new technique, one minute is enough for a few dollars. "We could control every athlete every day," say researchers at the University of Waterloo, who developed it.

Agriculture / Zimbabwe: 5-year Extension To 99 Years Of Lease Term For White Farmers by TrendTopStries: 11:42pm On Feb 02, 2018
In Zimbabwe, it is a gesture towards the last remaining white farmers in the country. The government has announced that it will extend from 5 years to 99 years the lease term of these farmers, spared the land reform of former President Robert Mugabe. A controversial reform that has plunged the country into a serious economic crisis. Thousands of white farmers were forcibly evicted from their land in the early 2000s for the benefit of black farmers, at the behest of the ruling Robert Mugabe government.

All white farmers will now receive a lease of 99 years instead of 5 years. According to a circular from the Ministry of Agriculture, this measure should affect about 200 white farmers still operating in the country.

New President Emmerson Mnangagwa is committed to revitalizing the economy, including agricultural production.

Foreign Affairs / USA: The Case Of The Memo That Poisons The FBI by TrendTopStries: 6:22pm On Feb 01, 2018
The FBI expresses its “serious concerns“ about the veracity of a top-secret memo that Republicans threaten to publish as of Thursday. This text became in a few days a weapon to counter the open investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. It would tend to prove that the FBI is not neutral vis-a-vis the Trump administration.

According to the Republicans, this highly confidential note, whose exact content is not yet known, would highlight an anti-Trump bias within the FBI and the Justice Department. It is based on the tapping, considered abusive, of a former adviser to Donald Trump during the presidential campaign.

Still, no consensus in the United States between Democrats and Republicans on the issue of immigration. Democrats, as well as some Republicans, have rejected Donald Trump's proposals.

Donald Trump had described his compromise as “extremely generous“. The text was immediately rejected by the elected Democrats. Written by Stephen Miller, one of his most conservative advisers, the project proposed the naturalization of 1.8 million undocumented immigrants including illegal students, provisionally regularized by the program DACA Barack Obama and whose Democrats have made a political priority.

Health / Discovery In Israel Of The Oldest Homo Sapiens Out Of Africa by TrendTopStries: 6:18am On Jan 26, 2018
A team of scientists led by Israeli researchers has managed to date and identify a piece of jaw. It is a jaw of a “modern man”, a Homo sapiens, dating back at least 177 000 years. This makes it the oldest fossil of Homo sapiens found outside the African continent. And this discovery, published in the journal Science, changes the knowledge that scientists have of the human species.

It has been more than fifteen years since the piece of jaw was discovered in the cave of Misliya, on the western slope of my Carmel, 12 km south of Haifa. Fifteen years as teams around the world examine the seven fossilized teeth to try to break the secret and finally achieve a major discovery.

Science/Technology / China: Birth Of The First Cloned Primates by TrendTopStries: 4:31am On Jan 26, 2018
For the first time, a team of Chinese researchers has managed to clone two monkeys. Unveiled Wednesday, January 24 in the scientific journal Cell, this success is promising for medical research because it could allow laboratories to work with genetically uniform primate populations. But if this feat was performed with a therapeutic intent, it is not without asking many ethical questions.

In 1996 was born the sheep Dolly, the first cloned animal. Since then, mice, cats, and dogs have been born in the same way. But never our closest cousins, the monkeys, could have been cloned. It is now done. Macaques Zhong Zhong and Hua Hua share the same genetic code as their parents, so to speak.

To achieve this, we must take a cell of the individual that we want to clone and keep only its nucleus, which contains the genetic information. On the other side, on a female, researchers take a reproductive cell: an oocyte and remove the nucleus. The idea is to insert the genetic information of the first individual into the oocyte.

After a few days, an embryo appears and is transferred to the uterus of a surrogate mother.......

Relief services in the state of Cross River speak of at least 33,000 refugees, scattered in villages, housed in families, in the utmost precariousness. Local authorities and UNHCR draw attention to the need for camps to house these populations.
"We have identified nearly 33,000 Cameroonian migrants. A large number arrived by road. But some people cross the forest, others the river. So it's very difficult to record them on our databases," says John Inaku, Cross River State Emergency Management, and Management Manager.

The US Senate on Monday found a temporary budget compromise to fund the state and end the partial closure of the federal government that has nailed hundreds of thousands of federal employees to their homes.

After intense negotiations, the Democratic and Republican leaders of the Senate have agreed on a text ensuring the financing of the state until February 8, with the stated objective of finding an agreement on immigration and the fate of hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who arrived young in the United States.

Politics / Liberia: Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Excluded From Her Party by TrendTopStries: 12:15am On Jan 15, 2018
In Liberia, outgoing President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was expelled from the Unity Party with four other members. A decision that follows the rumors of support from the president to George Weah, the opponent of Joseph Boakai, vice president of Johnson Sirleaf and unfortunate candidate of the party in the presidential election.

The circumstances of this exclusion remain unclear, according to Liberian observer Abdullai Kamara, director of the Liberia Holding Consortium Media: “There have been rumors that outgoing President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf would not have supported Vice President Jospeh Boakai who was the candidate of the Unity Party. During the campaign, Boakai had also stated in an interview that Sirleaf's support for the party was unsatisfactory. What I notice is that the decision to exclude President Sirleaf from the Unity Party was taken without her being invited to speak on the subject or that an investigation be opened. And on the release of the party, there is no date indicating when this decision was made.

Politics / [chronicle] China Storms Nigeria by TrendTopStries: 9:33am On Jan 14, 2018
Beijing is gaining more influence every day in Africa's largest economy. To the point of worrying the Western powers, first and foremost the United States.

If the Nigerian writer Wole Soyinka meets you in Abeokuta, his hometown, there is a good chance he will do it in a Chinese restaurant. “It's the best of the city,“ he says as if this “champion of the African cause” felt obscurely the need to justify himself.

In his home state, the Ogun, in southwestern China, the Chinese are everywhere. Starting with the field of construction where they cut cruppers to European groups, traditional partners of Nigeria, like the German Julius Berger who made his fortune in building in the country.

In Lagos, the economic capital of the country, it is difficult to spend a day without being in contact with Chinese, in the popular neighborhoods as well as in the better-off. Unlike other countries on the continent, they are not confined to Chinatowns and circulate everywhere.
