Politics › Ekiti Election Result: Omokri, Dele Momodu React To Fayemi’s Victory by Trendvoice(op): 11:15am On Jul 15, 2018
Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of rigging the just concluded Ekiti governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday declared the APC candidate, Kayode Fayemi, as the winner after he defeated the current Deputy Governor of the state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kolapo Olusola, in 12 LGAs.

The APC candidate garnered 197,459 votes while Olusola polled 178,114 votes.

Reacting to Fayemi’s victory, Omokri described the election as ‘federal military invasion’

“Ekiti’s election was NOT free and fair. It was more of a federal military invasion than an election.

“Even with APC’s questionable victory, I remind Buhari of history: PDP WON Ekiti’s gubernatorial election in 2014 but LOST the 2015 Presidential election. It is yet Uhuru for PMB!” he tweeted.

Also, Media mogul, Dele Momodu has congratulated Fayemi on his victory.

Momodu wrote on his Twitter page, “Congratulations, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has been declared the winner of the Ekiti State election in a tension-soaked Gubernatorial race.”

Politics › Secondus: Pdp’s Worst Presidential Aspirant Better Than Buhari by Trendvoice(op): 8:36am On Jul 15, 2018
• We need to stop APC before they crash our democracy
• Says party will restore hope, unity, not grab power like APC
• Claims reconciliation, withObasanjo, ex president urges moral discipline

The national chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to deliver quality leadership and foster national unity. Secondus said Buhari, who has declared his intention to seek a second term under his All Progressives Congress (APC), was no match for even the worst presidential aspirant in PDP.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with THISDAY, Secondus dismissed claims by some prominent Nigerians that there is no credible alternative to Buhari. He stated that it was an insult to the nation for anybody to claim that only Buhari was fit to rule Nigeria.

In a related development, PDP said yesterday that it had fully reconciled with the ex-president and former party man, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. A statement by the PDP national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the reconciliation followed a two-hour meeting between the party’s leadership and Obasanjo in Abeokuta.
On his part, Obasanjo advised the party to pay attention to moral discipline, commitment, good image, and leadership in order to restore its lost glory and regain the confidence of Nigerians. He gave the advice yesterday at his home in Abeokuta during a courtesy visit by the National Working Committee (NWC) of PDP, led by Secondus, and Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Walid Jibrin.
The PDP national chairman said in the interview, “Nothing can be more irritating and insulting than that kind of argument. A country of over 180 million people: you are saying that the best is a person whose three years of terrible governance has dragged the country to the dyke. Those saying that are selfish persons around the president, who have held him hostage by telling him what they want him to hear, not what the situations really are. The alternatives abound from every corner.
“If every registered political party in the country were to pick a presidential candidate, any of them would do better than the current APC president. In PDP, we have a reservoir of presidential aspirants – the worst among them will do better than what APC has been offering Nigerians since 2015.”
Secondus explained that PDP’s recent alliance with other political parties and groups was forged to provide a virile and credible platform that would give hope to Nigerians and restore the oneness of the country.
According to him, “What influenced the alliance is essentially to save our democracy and to rescue the country. Every other influencing factor is secondary. The primary motive is to save Nigeria. All members of the coalition agreed to forge ahead along this line. Picking a common presidential candidate couldn’t have been the main motive; otherwise, you can get an endorsement from a party or group without going into a coalition.”
The PDP chairman pointed out that Nigerians across the country felt justifiably concerned about where the Buhari-led APC administration was taking the country.
Expatiating on the coalition’s mission, Secondus stated, “We need to halt them before they crash our democracy. PDP has ample reasons why it must fight to keep this democracy. We have a very high stake in this project. Our history as a party is full of struggles to restore democracy. Having restored and nurtured it for 16 years, we cannot just sit and watch some unconcerned power grabbers destroy all we have built over the years using their own narrow view of democracy.”
He added, “Because they (APC) are not democrats, they make sure that other arms of government – the legislature and Judiciary – are harassed to frighten them out of their statutory function of checking the executive. This president has committed so many impeachable offences but the legislature is embattled to do the needful. But by February 2019, Nigerian voters will do it with their PVCs.”
Obasanjo Finally Reconciles With PDP
The PDP leadership said it had fully reconciled with Obasanjo and resolved to join forces with him to rescue the country from its current misrule. Led by Secondus, the PDP leadership, comprising members of the NWC and leaders of the BOT, met with Obasanjo at his Abeokuta Hilltop residence on Saturday.
Ologbondiyan said in a statement that the leaders agreed that mistakes were made in the past for which the leadership of the PDP tendered apologies to the former president. The former president, who received the apology with a Yoruba proverb that one does not hand over his child’s waist band to an enemy just because the band did not fit the child’s waist, further expressed his preparedness to fight for the cause of nationhood while assuring that Nigeria’s glory would be restored, the statement said.

“Chief Obasanjo also promised to join forces with other well-meaning leaders in the country to stop the nation’s current drift into anarchy.”
The statement said Secondus commended the commitment of the former president towards the development and stability of the country. He recalled the sacrifices made by Obasanjo for the country both as a military and civilian leader and urged him not to give up at this crucial time.
Secondus invited Obasanjo to lead from the front, as he had always done, in the current quest to save our nation from total eclipse.
According to the statement, PDP leaders used the occasion to share fond memories of the development of the PDP as a purposeful political party designed by its founding fathers to foster and sustain a better living standard for the Nigerian people.
Obasanjo Sues for Moral Discipline in PDP
Obasanjo told the visiting PDP leadership that to bring back the party’s lost glory and regain confidence in the mind of Nigerians, PDP should to pay attention to moral discipline, commitment, good image and leadership. Led by Secondus and Jibrin, the PDP leaders also had a breakfast working meeting at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta.
According to a statement by Obasanjo’smedia aide, Mr Kehinde Akinyemi, the PDP national chairman, while speaking on behalf of the delegation and the party, made four key submissions: an apology to the former president for the bad conduct and mistreatment of him by the PDP; the distress and prostrate situation of the country today; the progress of the MOU on grand alliance of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP); and an appeal to the former president, not to be tired, while giving leadership to save the country from the throes of mismanagement and shipwreck.
While responding, Obasanjo expressed appreciation to the PDP leadership for apologising on behalf of the party and made reference to the Lord’s Prayer “where we are taught to ask God for forgiveness of sins and to grant forgiveness to others.
It was said Obasanjo further bemoaned the pitiable situation of Nigeria today and the inexcusable killings and insecurity almost all over the country and the unprecedented divisions in the country, which the Buhari government does not seem to have any solution to.
Akinyemi stated regarding the coalition, “It is not a merger, nor absorption of any political party by any political party. It is clearly defined for the parties who agreed to be members of the alliance to work together to achieve one important common objective at the national level towards the upcoming 2019 general election when and where it is appropriate and necessary for members that may also form an alliance and cooperation at the state level.”
Obasanjo reiterated that the idea of a grand alliance was broached when the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) adopted African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a political party platform, but he reaffirmed his belief and support for the grand alliance.
“Individuality and independence of each political party must be observed and respected by all parties concerned. It is also desirable that in the process of implementing the MOU to achieve the set objective, solidarity and focus on the objective must be maintained.
“On adoption of ADC as political party of the CNM, I had maintained that I would not be a member of any political party but I would make myself available to guide any party that wishes to be so guided and I have offered such guidance to ADC.
“While I am making myself available to any other party that will require it, service to ADC will be paramount,” said Obasanjo.
Besides, Obasanjo told the committee that before their prompting he had already put his hands on the ground “and there is no looking back”.

Politics › 2019 Elections: PDP Leaders Visit Obasanjo, Apologise For Past Mistakes by Trendvoice(op): 9:20pm On Jul 14, 2018
Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his home in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The PDP chiefs led by the party’s National Chairman Uche Secondus held talks with the elder statesman behind closed doors for about two and half hours.

“Obasanjo is a national leader of this country. He is the father of the nation and so we came to consult with him,” Secondus told reporters after the meeting.

“So, I believe that regardless of political parties, his direction is highly needed now.”

A former deputy national chairman south of the party, Mr Olabode George, also asked Nigerians to be wiser when they elect new leaders for the country in the forthcoming general elections.

“We must be fooling ourselves if we don’t tell ourselves the truth,” the PDP chieftain told reporters. “This is not about politics now. We need good managers for the management of our resources for the benefit of the people.”

All the 21 members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) and some party leaders attended the meeting, including a former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oynlola and a host of others.

Meanwhile, a statement from the office of the PDP National Publicity Secretary revealed that the leaders acknowledged that mistakes were made in the past for which they tendered apologies to the former president.

“The former president, who received the apology with a Yoruba proverb that one does not hand over his child’s waistband to an enemy just because the band did not fit the child’s waist, further expressed his preparedness to fight for the course of nationhood while assuring that Nigeria’s glory would be restored,” the statement said.

Former President Obasanjo had dumped the PDP in 2015 before the party went on to lose the 2015 presidential election to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In quitting the PDP under which he became Nigeria’ President from 1999 to 2007, Obasanjo declared that he was quitting partisan politics.

He subsequently supported the President Muhammadu Buhari’s candidacy.

But both men fell out and Obasanjo has criticised the Federal Government and the President several times since January 2018.

Despite receiving the apology of the PDP, the former President insisted that he won’t return to partisan politics but would continue to make himself available to guide any party that so desired.

He also promised to prioritise his service to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is one the over 30 political parties that formed a coalition with the PDP to defeat President Buhari and the APC in 2019.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has advised the Peoples Democratic Party to respect other political parties in the grand alliance of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) to ensure success of the process.

Coalition for Nigeria Movement

Obasanjo also urged all member political parties to be cautious of fake news, rumours, blackmail, and seeds of discord that may be sown among them from external quarters.
Obasanjo said this while playing host to a twenty-one-man delegation of the Committee of National Working Committee of the PDP led by the National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus which paid him a courtesy call at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta .

Both Obasanjo and the delegation held a closed door meeting and had a breakfast working meeting .

The meeting which lasted for about four hours was said to have been used to assess the extent of development recorded on the plan by PDP to form alliance with other political parties to wrest power from All Progressives Congress in 2019 election reportedly begged the ex-President to rejoin the party.

Obasanjo in his remarks advised the individuality and independence of each political party must be observed and respected by all parties concerned.

He also said that it is desirable that in the process of implementing the MOU to achieve the set objective, solidarity and focus on the objective must be maintained.

The former President reminded the committee that on adoption of ADC as political party of the CNM, he had maintained that he will not be a member of any political party but he will make himself available to guide any party that wishes to be so guided and he has offered such guidance to ADC.

He said while he may make himself available to any other party that will require it, service to ADC will be paramount.

He equally pointed out to the committee that before their prompting he had put his hands on the ground and there is no looking back.

That he will join men and women in the country, and if necessary lead them, in retrieving and saving the country from shipwreck.

Obasanjo urged the PDP to pay attention to four issues that he said were needed to bring PDP back to a party of good image, discipline, commitment, leadership and moral principles.

He also lauded the party for apologising on behalf of the party and made reference to the Lord’s Prayer, which he said contains a statement that taught men to ask God for forgiveness and to grant forgiveness to others.

He further underlined the pitiable situation of Nigeria today and the inexcusable killing and insecurity almost all over the country and the unprecedented division of the country all of which the present government seems to have no credible solution

Earlier, the national Chairman of the party while speaking on behalf of the delegation and the party, apologised to the former President for what he described as bad conduct and mistreatment of him by the PDP that led to his exit .

Secondus also told Obasanjo how the felt about what he called distress and prostrate situation of the country and as well gave the progress of the Memorandum of Understanding on grand alliance of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).

He, however appealed to the former President not to be tired of giving leadership to save the country from what he described as “the throws of mismanagement and shipwreck”.

Secondus said ” it has been made clear that the MOU for grand alliance is what it says, a grand alliance. It is not a merger nor an absorption of any political party by any political party. It is clearly for the parties which agreed to be members of the alliance to work together to achieve one important common objective at the national level for the election of 2019 and where it is appropriate and necessary members may also form alliance and cooperation at the state level”.

Sports › China Cat Who Predicted Win For Argentina Against Nigeria In The World Cup Dies by Trendvoice(op): 1:01pm On Jul 05, 2018
@NAIRATREND

Thousands of Chinese are pouring out their grief on social media following the death of a “psychic” cat, Baidian’er that correctly predicted the outcome of Nigeria and Argentina match at Russia FIFA World Cup.

The cat, bearing the name that means white spot in Chinese, also predicted the outcome of of five other World Cup games. The orange-furred tabby was a stray cat that prowled around the Palace Museum in Beijing’s Forbidden City.

He was offered two bowls of food, with the flags of competing World Cup teams stuck in the ground behind them to make the predictions.

He achieved such fame that the Palace Museum even set up an account for him on China’s Weibo, a popular Twitter-like platform.

Unfortunately, Baidian’er’s correct prediction of an Argentinian win against Nigeria turned out to be his last.

The museum said the cat fell ill and finally announced its death on Monday, sparking almost 10,000 comments on Weibo.

“Every time I go to the Forbidden City, I have to go see Baidian’er, take a photo, play for a while, see him sleep on the grass in the sun,” wrote one distraught user.

“Go on living a happy life in Cat Heaven, I’ll see you again.”

It has not been a good week for animal prognosticators. In Japan, an octopus caught in the northern region of Hokkaido correctly predicted the outcome of three of Japan’s World Cup matches, but like the Blue Samurai met an unfortunate fate.

Even before Japan qualified for the final 16, the octopus named Rabio was reportedly sold and turned into sashimi.

Rabio was following on from the most successful salty soothsayer, an Octopus named Paul who achieved global fame by correctly predicting eight 2010 World Cup games from his aquarium in Germany. Paul became a worldwide media sensation, with his latter predictions covered by hordes of international media.

But Paul fell offside with his home fans after correctly predicting that Germany would lose to Spain. His aquarium received menacing letters threatening to turn him into a tasty dish.

In the stands, the honour of Paul’s mother was called into question and some sections of the crowd watching on giant screens in Berlin sang anti-octopus songs.

Sports › Nigerian Media Company Sues Floyd Mayweather For $2 Million For 'scamming Them' by Trendvoice(op): 6:41pm On Jul 04, 2018
@NAIRATREND

Retired boxer, Floyd Mayweather has been sued by Nigerian Media Company claiming he scammed them of thousands of dollars.

According to TMZ, Zinni Media is suing Mayweather for skipping out on five scheduled appearances they booked him for in Nigeria and Ghana in June 2017 for the low sum of $375,000.

The company says it got Floyd to make a video confirming the appearances and even wired him $210,000 in advance. But days before the first event was to hold, Floyd failed to show up on his expected date.

In the suit, Zinni claims Floyd's reps offered to reschedule for Dec. 2017 and added more appearances to the list but instead he raised the price to $550,000. Zinni claims they were told they could use the $210k toward the new booking price.

They also alleged that they accepted the new deal but when they asked Floyd to make a new video confirming the new dates, he bailed again and allegedly hasn’t returned the original $210,000.

Zinni is now taking Mayweather to federal court in California, claiming the retired boxer damaged their reputation and defrauded them. They want at least $2million to make things right, according to the report.

Back in June, Mayweather was named Forbes' highest-paid athlete. He earned that No. 1 spot after raking in $275 million from his August 2017 fight with UFC star Conor McGregor.
