By Prince Adeyemi Shonibare Annaba, Algeria August 04, 2025 In the heat of Algeria’s Annaba sun, a slender, fair-complexioned Nigerian teenager named Osarenti mounted her bike at the edge of the velodrome, leaned into the wind, and—with a thunderbolt sprint—wrote her name into Africa’s cycling history. The 16-year-old, hailing from the red-earth roads of Edo State, clinched gold in the Girls’ Sprint Final at the inaugural African School Sports Championship, a photo-finish victory that sent shockwaves through the African youth sports scene—from the classrooms of Benin City to the grandstands of Annaba. It wasn’t just a win. It was a bold statement of intent. “I’ve trained every day thinking of this moment,” Osarenti said, wrapped in the Nigerian flag and breathless from her final lap. “Now I’m thinking of the Olympics.” What the world may be witnessing is the rise of a once-in-a-generation athlete—one whose determination, confidence, and timing align with a reinvigorated national sports movement. Blazing Tracks from Abeokuta to Annaba This victory in Algeria is not Osarenti’s first taste of gold. Just a few months earlier, she stunned Nigerian sports fans when she upset Olympic cyclist Ese Ukpeseraye at the 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, claiming gold in the women’s 200-meter cycling sprint. The moment was dubbed the “passing of the crown,” as the teenager’s backstretch acceleration left no doubt—Nigeria had a new queen of cycling speed. “She didn’t blink,” said one official after the Abeokuta final. “A teenager beat an Olympian and did it with cold precision.” Now, in Algeria, on a bigger stage and under heavier pressure, Osarenti has done it again. And this time, the whole continent is watching. The Girl Behind the Grit Known among teammates simply as “Osa,” Osarenti comes from humble beginnings in Benin City, where her first bicycle was borrowed and her earliest training track was a dusty school playground. Friends recall her racing buses down the street and coming home with bruises—and victories. Scouts discovered her during state-level school trials, and by 2023, she was already a standout at the National Youth Games, scooping medals in both time trials and sprints. But it wasn’t just talent that fueled her rise. It was hunger. “I watch Olympic races on my phone before I sleep,” she said. “I imagine it’s me.” That imagination has become inspiration—for young girls across Nigeria who now see in Osarenti a reflection of themselves and a roadmap to international greatness. Nigeria’s New Flag-bearer Her victory in Annaba wasn’t just a personal triumph. It was a defining moment in Nigeria’s renewed sporting narrative—one driven by policy, planning, and presidential commitment. Osarenti’s gold glistened not only as a symbol of her brilliance, but also of a national shift. For the first time in years, sports is no longer an afterthought in Nigeria’s budget. Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Nigerian Sports Commission has received direct backing to fund athletes’ training, travel, equipment, and welfare. “Every sport in Nigeria will get the attention it deserves,” says Dr. Sheu Dikko, Director General of the Nigerian Sports Commission. His words are echoed by Mr. Bukola Olopade, the Commission’s Managing Director, who adds, “We are done with excuses. If the president is giving us what we need, when we need them, why should we fail?” This new approach is already producing results. Coaches are being hired, trained, and paid. Sports federations are being held accountable. And support no longer stops at football. "Every sport. Every needed attention. That is our new motto." Just recently, President Tinubu rewarded the Super Falcons with $100,000 each for the winning players and their officials, including houses at the Renewed Hope Estate and another round of national honors. What Comes Next Osarenti is now being lined up for the 2026 African Youth Games, with eyes firmly on Paris 2028 and Los Angeles 2032. The Nigeria Cycling Federation is developing a bespoke training and sponsorship plan for her—one that protects her education while accelerating her performance. She may soon become Nigeria’s first female Olympic medalist in cycling. But more importantly, she is the face of a future where no talent is wasted and no dream is too big. The Women Are Leading From athletics tracks to basketball courts, Nigerian female athletes have been the country’s brightest lights in recent years. The Super Falcons continue to dominate African women’s football and reached the Round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, finishing unbeaten in regular time. Tobi Amusan remains Africa’s queen of hurdles, a World Record holder and Commonwealth Games gold medalist. In boxing, Elizabeth Oshoba and Cynthia Ogunsemilore made headlines at the 2023 African Games, bringing home medals. Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have just made history by winning their fifth consecutive FIBA AfroBasket Women’s Championship title—defeating Mali 78–64 in the final. The victory marks their seventh overall AfroBasket title and extends their unbeaten run to 29 matches since 2015. And now, Osarenti has added cycling to that growing list of excellence—proving that Nigerian women are not just participants, but champions. Time for the Men to Rise Again While the women have carried the nation on their shoulders in recent years, questions remain about Nigeria’s male athletes—especially in athletics, wrestling, and team sports. The call is growing louder: it’s time for Nigeria’s male stars to reclaim their legacy. As the women continue to break barriers and bring glory, the challenge is clear: the men must rise again, match the passion, and join in restoring Nigeria’s dominance across every field of play. Still, Many Rivers to Cross Despite the successes, there are still many rivers for Nigerian sports to cross. The journey toward greatness has only just begun. It must start with a focus on building and supporting young talents across the country. Talents discovered at the grassroots—like Osarenti, and others uncovered during the NUGA Games, school sports festivals, and community competitions—must never be allowed to go to waste again. These young stars need more than praise. They need consistent support, training equipment, qualified coaches, proper allowances, and periodical camping programs that test and sharpen their potential. Just as important, they must be protected from academic neglect and other forms of abuse. Every policy must ensure that athletes are developed holistically—physically, mentally, and educationally. But this is not a call to the federal government alone. Sports development must begin from the bottom up. It is not the primary assignment of the federal government to scout for talent. That role belongs to local governments and state structures, who must actively search, nurture, and promote athletes long before they enter the national radar. The federal government’s role is to build on that foundation—by developing elite systems and preparing athletes for international engagements. If Nigeria is to build a truly sustainable sporting legacy, then we must go back to basics. Back to the streets, the schools, the local clubs. That is where champions like Osarenti are born. And that is where the future must be secured. From the red sands of Edo to the podiums of Africa, Osarenti is pedaling toward greatness. If this golden era is to endure, it will be on the wheels of rising stars like her—and on the shoulders of those ready to match her fire. And this time, the world is not just watching. It’s cheering. https://youtube.com/shorts/oLaLn9MHsPc?si=E2cvqmGnFAEuC1wC

UNVEILING THE BRAND NEW APC CHAIRMAN By Prince Adeyemi Shonibare, APC Member In a bold and progressive move, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda as its new National Chairman — a decision that reflects both political foresight and generational transition. This is more than a leadership shuffle. It is the rebranding of a political structure, driven by intellect, character, and strategic recalibration ahead of 2027. Born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke Local Government Area, Plateau State, Nentawe was raised in a disciplined, faith-based home — the son of the late Rev. Toma Yilwatda, a revered Christian cleric. The moral upbringing that shaped his early life would eventually underpin his academic, public, and political journeys. He holds a B.Eng. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi; a Master’s in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, and a Ph.D. in Digital Systems Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. But it wasn’t just classroom brilliance that defined him. Nentawe’s hunger for knowledge took him further — he received high-level training from the United Nations University in Macau (China), AfriNIC in Mauritius, NetTel@Africa in Kenya, and multiple ICT leadership sessions sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation, UNESCO, and UNIDO. He is a registered engineer with COREN, and a member of the IEEE, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), and the Solar Energy Society of Nigeria. For over 25 years, Prof. Nentawe served the university system with distinction — rising from lecturer to Director of ICT at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi. His reforms in digitizing records, e-learning, and systems governance made him the university’s “Most Outstanding Director” in 2012. He didn’t just teach technology — he built it. But it was his appointment in 2017 as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Benue State by President Muhammadu Buhari that launched him into the national limelight. As REC, he supervised sensitive elections in Anambra (2017), Osun (2018), Benue and Kogi (2019) — earning a reputation for integrity and forward-thinking. He introduced digital mapping of polling units and designed frameworks that ensured Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) could vote — a legacy now embedded into INEC operations. In 2022, after voluntarily resigning from INEC, Nentawe joined partisan politics and emerged as the APC gubernatorial candidate in Plateau State. He launched the “#GenerationNext” campaign — a youth-driven vision for development, technology, and security. His ideas were radical for Plateau: digital tax systems, smart policing, energy cooperatives, data-based budgeting, and rural youth empowerment schemes. Though he lost the 2023 governorship election after a prolonged legal battle, his message resonated across age, religious, and ethnic lines. The Supreme Court’s decision may have ended his gubernatorial pursuit, but it amplified his stature as a man of uncommon courage and democratic faith. In October 2024, President Tinubu appointed him as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, following the suspension of Dr. Betta Edu. Within months, he began reengineering the ministry’s flawed structures with a digital-first approach. He famously told the Senate during his confirmation: “We cannot continue managing humanitarian crises in Nigeria with sentiments. We must build the ministry on data, accountability, and dignity for every citizen in distress.” His leadership earned him nationwide acclaim — and now, the ultimate call: to lead the APC. So why Nentawe? Why now? Unlike traditional party chairmen who rise through factional muscle and patronage, Prof. Nentawe arrives with no political baggage, no scandal, and no ethnic bias. He represents the future of party politics in Nigeria — intelligent, issue-driven, and people-focused. This is where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political sagacity shines. In a season where trust in parties is declining and public apathy is growing, Tinubu has selected a chairman not just to manage party congresses or elections, but to rebuild the APC brand from the ground up. It’s a strategic masterstroke — investing in character, not noise. What do APC members expect from their new chairman? We expect more than order. We expect restoration. We expect him to: Unite the party, not by decree, but by active engagement at ward, local government, and state levels. Reintroduce the culture of meetings — where members gather to plan, not just clap. Digitize the party register — ensuring every member is known, counted, and connected. Institutionalize membership dues — because a party must be funded by its people, not by desperate aspirants. End the culture of self-funded candidacies — shifting toward a grassroots-funded model where the party carries its candidates. Raise new leaders like himself — competent, untainted, and ready to govern. Ensure internal democracy — where primaries are contests of merit, not auctions of money. The challenge ahead is massive, but Nentawe is cut from rare cloth. His combination of intellect, humility, and resilience gives hope to thousands of young party members who want to see the APC reborn. As a loyal party member and stakeholder, I say boldly: this is one of the best decisions the APC has made in years. I salute President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for resisting pressure to reward cronies, and instead choosing capacity over calculation, and value over volume. May God grant Professor Nentawe Yilwatda the wisdom of Solomon, the courage of Moses, and the vision of Joseph. May he succeed in making the APC not just a ruling party — but a renewing force. The journey to 2027 has already begun. And with leaders like Nentawe at the helm, we walk with faith, not fear. Prince Adeyemi Shonibare APC Member Advocate for Good Governance & Reform

20 JUNE, 2025 TINUBU SIGNS LANDMARK TAX REFORMS INTO LAW, SETS NIGERIA ON THE PATH TO A $1 TRILLION ECONOMY By Prince Adeyemi Aseperi-Shonibare Public Analyst and APC Member In a bold and defining move poised to reshape Nigeria’s economic trajectory, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law four far-reaching tax bills passed by the National Assembly. The reforms mark the most ambitious overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system in over half a century, aimed squarely at strengthening government revenue, stimulating private sector growth, and positioning Africa’s largest economy to achieve its target of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030. At a formal signing ceremony held at the State House on Thursday, the President declared that the new laws signal a new lease of life for the country’s economy and its people. “We are in transit; we have changed the roads. We have changed some of the misgivings. We have opened the doors to a new economy and new opportunities,” Tinubu said. The four tax laws are: 1. Nigeria Tax Bill (Ease of Doing Business) 2. Nigeria Tax Administration Bill 3. Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill 4. Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill The reform package is the culmination of intense policy work led by the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, chaired by renowned fiscal expert Mr. Taiwo Oyedele. The initiative aims to eliminate redundant taxes, unify tax administration across all levels of government, digitalize collection systems, and promote equity through progressive tax structures. WHAT THE NEW TAX LAWS ENTAIL The Nigeria Tax Bill consolidates all fragmented and conflicting tax statutes into a harmonized code. It retains the current 7.5% VAT rate, introduces progressive personal income tax brackets (0% for minimum-wage earners, up to 25% for ultra-high-income earners), and eliminates tax burdens on NGOs, compensation for injury, and low-earning digital entrepreneurs. A 4% development levy on corporate profits will fund student loans and infrastructure through the Nigeria Education Loan Fund. The Nigeria Tax Administration Bill standardizes tax operations at federal, state, and local government levels. It mandates joint audits, integrated taxpayer databases, and digital monthly filings for high-risk sectors like international shipping and aviation. Penalties are now streamlined to reduce arbitrariness and corruption. The Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill replaces the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) with the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS)—a fully autonomous national revenue authority with enhanced powers to manage all public revenues including taxes, oil royalties, and levies from over 100 agencies. The new agency is performance-based and digitally driven. The Joint Revenue Board Bill institutionalizes federal-state-local government collaboration. It enables shared infrastructure, technology, and dispute resolution frameworks. A national Tax Appeal Tribunal and Tax Ombudsman will be established to ensure fairness and justice for taxpayers. WIN ,WIN ,SITUATION FOR ALL For state governments, these reforms are a game changer. States will now retain 30% of VAT generated within their jurisdiction, receive 50% equal-share distribution, and 20% based on population. With streamlined processes and digital tax integration, states are now empowered to grow their internally generated revenue (IGR) sustainably and reduce reliance on federal allocation. For the federal government, the reforms boost non-oil revenue, cut wasteful duplication among MDAs, and raise Nigeria’s tax-to-GDP ratio from a low 10.8% toward the continental benchmark of 18%. This reduces the fiscal deficit and strengthens Nigeria’s standing in global capital markets. For corporate organizations and SMEs, the reforms bring clarity and predictability. Businesses with under ₦50 million turnover will enjoy 0% corporate tax. VAT input claims are now standardized, compliance processes are digital, and there are tax reliefs for investments in education, infrastructure, and agriculture. For citizens, especially low-income earners, the progressive income tax brackets mean more disposable income. Compensation for injury or trauma under ₦50 million is now tax-exempt. Digital access to tax filing, reduced harassment, and better service delivery are built into the new tax ecosystem. For international investors and development partners, the unified tax framework offers legal certainty, ease of compliance, and compatibility with global standards. The reforms also align Nigeria with the OECD’s global minimum tax requirements for multinational corporations. IMPACT ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND THE $1 TRILLION GDP AMBITION According to the World Bank’s 2024 Nigeria Development Update, Nigeria’s path to a $1 trillion economy by 2030 hinges on structural reforms, public investment, and fiscal discipline. These tax laws directly address those imperatives. “Revenues are surging… The ultimate purpose here is jobs and opportunities,” said Alex Sienaert, the World Bank’s lead economist for Nigeria. The World Bank estimates that with effective reform implementation, Nigeria’s GDP could double over the next five years, fueled by non-oil growth in agriculture, services, and manufacturing. The IMF also praised Nigeria’s fiscal efforts. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva noted, “It’s been really good to see the government taking these head on… expanding social protection to target the most vulnerable.” This fiscal consolidation—combined with subsidy removal, FX reforms, and targeted social programs—has significantly improved Nigeria’s credit outlook. International confidence is rising. Nigeria is in talks to rejoin JPMorgan’s Emerging Market Government Bond Index, signalling renewed foreign investor interest. Morgan Stanley analysts predict that Tinubu’s policy reforms “could fuel economic growth and the rise of a mass consumer market.” Brazil’s recent $1 billion agricultural agreement with Nigeria is another strong vote of confidence. With new revenue, the government can expand infrastructure, digitize public services, and fund large-scale investments in power, transport, and education. ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF THE REFORMS Dr. Bismarck Rewane described the reforms as “the first serious attempt in over 30 years to treat taxation as a tool for national development, rather than merely a channel for revenue collection.” Dr. Sarah Alade observed: “The harmonization under this bill will reduce friction and stimulate business growth, especially in the SME space.” Professor Ode Ojowu emphasized that “progressive taxation reflects redistributive justice. That is good economics and better politics.” Ifueko Omoigui Okauru stated: “Establishing a performance-based NRS is long overdue. Autonomy breeds accountability.” Professor Akpan Ekpo said: “This bill introduces structure and predictability, which are critical for investor confidence.” Dr. Andrew Nevin noted: “Joint audits and unified data are powerful tools to expand the tax net without raising rates.” Eze Onyekpere called the Joint Revenue Board “the administrative glue that binds the reform.” Alex Sienaert concluded: “If implemented with discipline, these reforms could raise Nigeria’s tax-to-GDP ratio by five to seven percentage points.” Kristalina Georgieva added: “This is comprehensive, courageous, and overdue.” A PRESIDENTIAL LEGACY IN THE MAKING Taiwo Oyedele remarked: “History will remember you for good for transforming our country.” Dr. Zacch Adedeji described the signing as “the happiest day of my professional life.” Senate President Godswill Akpabio said: “You have birthed a tax system that will last for generations.” CONCLUSION President Tinubu’s tax reforms are not just fiscal adjustments—they are a foundational blueprint for Nigeria’s economic rebirth. By prioritizing fairness, efficiency, and inclusivity, these laws aim to build trust in government, empower states, attract global capital, and enable Nigeria to take its rightful place as an emerging economic powerhouse. However, these reforms must not remain locked away in government files or limited to elite policy circles. The federal and state governments must commit to sustained public sensitization—through town halls, multilingual roadshows, traditional and social media, and engagement with business associations, community leaders, religious institutions, and market unions. Citizens need to understand what has changed, how it affects them, and how to comply. Only through nationwide enlightenment can the spirit of these reforms be translated into real progress. If implementation stays consistent and inclusive communication follows, Nigeria’s dream of a $1 trillion economy by 2030 will not only be possible, but inevitable.

Afriq Arbitrage System Refutes EFCC Claims: “We Are the Complainants, Not the Accused” (Video) Afriq Arbitrage System (AAS), a prominent digital investment platform, has issued a firm rebuttal to what it describes as false and misleading reports circulating on social media regarding its Founder and CEO, Mr. Jesam Michael. In an official statement on Tuesday, the company clarified that Mr. Michael has not committed any financial crime, contrary to rumors suggesting otherwise. “We at Afriq Arbitrage System feel compelled to address and correct recent false narratives about our Founder and CEO, Mr. Jesam Michael,” the statement read. According to the company, the individual responsible for the misappropriation of funds is Mr. Abayomi Oluwasesan, a former staff member. His misconduct allegedly caused operational disruptions within AAS in late 2023. AAS further noted that in November 2023, Mr. Abayomi appeared in a publicly available video and a live “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) session with investors, during which he confessed to mishandling company funds and issued a full apology to the AAS community. “Mr. Abayomi publicly admitted to his actions and took responsibility before our global investor audience. This remains a matter of public record,” the company emphasized. Despite this confession, AAS expressed concern that certain individuals are now attempting to shift blame onto Mr. Michael, pushing a false narrative for personal gain. “To be clear: Afriq Arbitrage System and Mr. Jesam Michael are the complainants in this case, not the accused,” the statement added. The company said it was the party that formally reported the matter to the relevant authorities and has fully cooperated with ongoing investigations. It stressed that any suggestion of wrongdoing by Mr. Michael or the company is both unfounded and legally misleading. AAS urged media outlets, social commentators, and the general public to rely on verified facts—such as official complaints, court records, and video evidence—rather than social media speculation or manipulated stories. “We encourage everyone to focus on the available evidence: video confessions, written apologies, and formal reports, rather than one-sided accounts serving private interests,” the company stated. Despite ongoing distractions, AAS reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, innovation, and restoring investor confidence. “We are not distracted. Our mission remains unchanged—to serve our global investor community with integrity and value,” the company affirmed. The company also extended gratitude to its loyal investors, stakeholders, and partners who have remained supportive during this challenging period. “We deeply appreciate our supporters who stand with us in truth and progress,” the statement concluded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iE8fuAoDKd4

A storm of outrage swept through the FCT High Court in Jabi, Abuja, on Wednesday as hundreds of aggrieved investors of Afriq Arbitrage System (AAS) flooded the courthouse, demanding the prosecution of Abayomi Oluwasesan, whom they accuse of embezzling a staggering $87 million from the company. The protest, which quickly gained viral traction online due to footage showing placard-waving demonstrators chanting slogans like “Abayomi Is the Thief!” and “Where Is Our $87 Million?”, was a passionate call for justice and the immediate release of the embattled AAS founder and CEO, Mr. Jesam Michael, who is currently remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre. The Heart of the Outrage The investors allege that the man truly responsible for the financial crisis at AAS is not Jesam Michael—but rather his former associate, Abayomi Oluwasesan. According to multiple protest leaders, Jesam entrusted Abayomi with operational control during a period of medical recovery, only for Abayomi to betray that trust. “He was given the keys to keep the business running,” said investor Albert Churchill, visibly emotional as he addressed the crowd. “Instead, he used that access to lock Jesam out of the system, transferred millions into personal accounts, and went on a spending spree—buying cars, houses, and vanishing from Lagos.” Where Is the Money? Investor Mr. Chibuzor added that while Abayomi has reportedly returned a few assets under a plea deal, the bulk of the money—still locked in crypto wallets under his control—remains missing. “This is not just about bail for Jesam,” Chibuzor emphasized. “This is about recovering what was stolen. We are not shouting in ignorance. The facts are out there—Abayomi even admitted to taking the money! Why is he free while our CEO, who tried to help people through blockchain innovation, is in detention?” Public Sentiment Turns The protest gained momentum following a June 13 post by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announcing Jesam’s arraignment. However, the EFCC post triggered an unexpected twist: over 1,000 of the 1,033 public comments on Instagram stood in defense of Jesam Michael. The overwhelming consensus online was clear—many Nigerians believe he’s being wrongly punished while the actual perpetrator remains untouched. Justice or Injustice? The scene at the courthouse painted a picture of deep frustration, but also a united call for action. Protesters vowed to continue lawful demonstrations until the alleged thief is held accountable and investors’ funds are returned. “This isn’t just about one man,” said protest coordinator Tina Adebayo. “It’s about trust in our justice system and the protection of innovation in Nigeria. Jesam Michael built something powerful. Abayomi destroyed it. Now, the system must correct this wrong.” What’s Next? With court proceedings underway and public interest surging, all eyes are now on the Nigerian judiciary, the EFCC, and law enforcement agencies. Will they heed the protesters’ call and go after Abayomi Oluwasesan with the same energy used against Jesam Michael? For the thousands of Afriq Arbitrage investors demanding answers, one thing is clear: the fight is far from over. *Accountability Group Petitions National Assembly, Accuses Transport Minister of Selling Railway Assets as Scraps* A civil society organisation, Alliance for Public Asset Protection and Accountability (APAPA), has petitioned the National Assembly over what it described as a “coordinated and deliberate scheme” to strip the country’s railway system of valuable assets under the guise of scrap sales. In a detailed petition submitted to Senate and the House of Representatives, the group accused the Minister of Transport, Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, of conniving with officials of the Railway Property Management Company Limited (RPMCL) and handpicked consultants to unlawfully dispose of railway assets worth billions of naira without proper accountability. The petition, signed by its president, Dr. Aminu Garba, described the activities of the ministry as a “brazen betrayal of public trust” and called for the immediate sack of the minister. “We have credible intelligence that the Minister of Transport, in collusion with officials of the Railway Property Management Company Limited (RPMCL), has engaged private consultants to dispose of critical railway infrastructure without transparency or accountability,” the petition reads. “These so-called consultants are not known to the public service. They were handpicked without competitive bidding, and their sole mission is to oversee the hurried sales of functioning railway equipment labelled falsely as scrap. “Some of the locomotives and signalling systems being sold were acquired less than a decade ago and are still in good condition. These are not outdated machines — they are valuable assets. “The buyers are mostly Chinese firms who, in collaboration with insiders, acquire these items at rock-bottom prices and ship them abroad. The Nigerian people gain nothing from these transactions.” The group alleged that since Alkali’s appointment, the railway sector has recorded no meaningful progress. On the contrary, it said trains frequently break down in remote and dangerous locations, leaving passengers stranded and exposed to security threats. “Instead of consolidating on the gains recorded under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, particularly in railway modernisation and safety, the current leadership of the Ministry of Transport is singularly focused on self-enrichment and clandestine deals at the expense of national development,” the group noted. “In the last one year, the rail sector has regressed significantly. Trains now break down mid-journey in the middle of nowhere. There are no new coaches. No investment in safety. No innovation. Only secret asset sales and dubious scrap deals.” The civic group further alleged that locomotives, steel tracks, signalling equipment, and other high-value railway infrastructure were being sold as scraps to Chinese companies and other private entities without due process or remittance of proceeds into government coffers. “We find it disturbing that there is no visible reinvestment of proceeds from these so-called scrap sales. The Ministry has failed to provide any financial records showing inflows to the government purse,” the group added. “Instead of improving rail safety and efficiency, the current administration of the Transport Ministry has made rail travel more dangerous and unreliable. The few trains in operation are poorly maintained and frequently stranded. “We therefore demand the immediate sack of Minister Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali and a full public inquiry into the activities of the Railway Property Management Company Limited and the consultants involved in these suspicious transactions.” The group also accused the minister of ignoring existing policies and bypassing the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), both of which are statutory agencies responsible for asset disposal and infrastructure concessions. “This government cannot afford to look the other way while national assets are looted in broad daylight,” Dr. Garba stated. In a message directed to the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives, the group urged lawmakers to act swiftly to salvage what is left of Nigeria’s railway sector before it is stripped bare. The CSO warned that it would mobilise civil society and initiate a nationwide campaign to expose the alleged rot if no action was taken within 30 days. |
A civic advocacy organisation, Zamfara Accountability and Development Coalition (ZADC), has accused top officials in the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal of hijacking and diverting funds meant for local government development across the state. In a statement released on Sunday, signed by its president, Salisu Bako Maradun, the group said the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Commissioner for Finance, the Accountant-General, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs have allegedly formed a “self-serving alliance” that controls and misappropriates local council allocations. “These individuals have captured the financial architecture of Zamfara’s 14 local governments. Their actions amount to economic sabotage and a betrayal of public trust,” the statement read. ZADC said the funds sent to local governments from the Federation Account are routinely withheld and mismanaged at the state level, leaving the local councils unable to deliver basic services or execute projects that could ease the suffering of residents. “Local governments in Zamfara have become ceremonial offices. The real work of looting is done in Gusau. Month after month, huge allocations arrive, but they disappear before they reach the grassroots,” the group said. According to the group, this alleged financial malpractice is responsible for the worsening state of infrastructure and public services in rural areas of Zamfara, where insecurity, poverty, and neglect continue to define daily life. “Health centres have no medicines, schools are empty shells, and rural roads are death traps. Yet the officials at the top are living in obscene luxury,” ZADC said. The group also accused Governor Lawal of enabling the rot through silence and inaction, despite widespread reports of mismanagement under his watch. “Governor Lawal cannot continue to look the other way while Zamfara’s commonwealth is stolen in broad daylight. His failure to act has emboldened those bleeding the state dry,” the group stated. They also describe the state’s Joint Allocation Committee (JAC) as compromised and opaque, claiming that local government chairmen are kept in the dark about the actual figures shared each month. “The JAC process has become a monthly ritual of secrecy. Funds are shared without documentation, accountability, or transparency. What we have is a complete breakdown of fiscal responsibility,” the group lamented. ZADC claimed that over the past six months, the state has received billions of naira in local government allocations, yet there has been “zero reflection” of that money in any council area. “Communities in Talata Mafara, Maru, Bukkuyum, and Tsafe have not seen any government project in over a year. The same can be said for Gummi, Kaura-Namoda, and Bakura. This is not just neglect. It is organised looting,” it said. The group, therefore, called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch a full investigation into the finances of Zamfara’s local government ministry and arrest those found culpable. “We are calling on the EFCC to intervene without delay. This is not the time for subtlety. The commissioner for local government, commissioner for finance, accountant-general, and the permanent secretary must be arrested and charged with corruption,” the statement added. ZADC noted that the people of Zamfara have suffered enough and can no longer afford to have their future traded by those in power. “This is a state battling chronic insecurity, mass unemployment, and underdevelopment. Yet those in charge of local government finances are behaving like warlords in a conquered territory,” the group said. It concluded by demanding that all stolen funds be recovered and channelled back to community projects to give Zamfara’s grassroots a fighting chance. “We want every kobo accounted for. Zamfara belongs to its people, not a few godfathers and greedy bureaucrats. This impunity must stop now,” the group declared. |
*Gov Dauda Lawal’s Weak Leadership Fueling Insecurity in Zamfara — Northern Advocacy Group* A northern civic advocacy organisation, Coalition for Safer North-West Communities (CSNC), has blamed the persistent insecurity in Zamfara State on what it described as the “lack of courage and gross administrative ineptitude” of Governor Dauda Lawal. A strongly worded statement signed by its President, Alhaji Murtala Shehu Gusau, on Wednesday, said the worsening wave of kidnappings, killings, and banditry in the state reflect a failure of leadership at the highest level of the state government. The group said despite the deployment of military personnel and federal government interventions, Zamfara remains one of the most dangerous states to live in, owing largely to the governor’s inability to take decisive action and coordinate effective security responses. “We are alarmed at the continued deterioration of security in Zamfara State, and after a critical assessment, we have no choice but to hold the state government accountable. Governor Dauda Lawal has shown a worrying lack of courage in the face of terror and has consistently failed to provide strategic leadership that inspires confidence among residents or security agencies,” the group declared. CSNC said Zamfara’s rural communities have become killing fields, while residents in the capital live in daily fear of abductions, despite the governor’s repeated assurances and media statements. “It is not enough to issue statements from Gusau. What the people need is action. From Dansadau to Maru, Anka to Tsafe, farmers can no longer access their farmlands, women are being kidnapped in broad daylight, and children are growing up under the sound of gunfire,” Alhaji Gusau said. According to the group, the governor’s approach to security management has been marked by inconsistency, lack of collaboration with federal authorities, and an inability to rally local leaders and traditional institutions towards community-based intelligence gathering. “Zamfara is bleeding, and the government seems more interested in political propaganda than real solutions. How many more people need to die before we begin to see seriousness? The governor needs to admit that his strategy, if any, has failed and make way for fresh thinking,” the statement added. CSNC also accused the Lawal administration of sidelining critical stakeholders in the state’s security architecture, including traditional rulers, local vigilantes, and federal agencies, in a bid to centralise control without the capacity to manage such complexity. “We must stop pretending that things are normal. The situation in Zamfara is a full-blown emergency, and if Governor Dauda Lawal cannot show the willpower to govern in a crisis, then he must accept that leadership is not for him. Zamfara deserves more than photo-ops and empty meetings,” the group insisted. Alhaji Gusau said the group’s position is based on consistent engagement with affected communities, civil society organisations, and humanitarian workers in the North-West, many of whom have raised alarm over the governor’s silence or delayed responses to critical incidents. The group also questioned how billions allocated to security in Zamfara’s state budget have been spent, demanding transparency and accountability from the administration. “We challenge the Zamfara State Government to publish the breakdown of its security spending for 2023 and the first quarter of 2024. We deserve to know what has been done with public funds meant to protect lives,” Alhaji Gusau said. The group called on the National Assembly, particularly lawmakers from Zamfara, to conduct an independent assessment of the security situation in the state and recommend a pathway to restoring peace. “This is not the time for partisan silence. Zamfara’s future is at stake. We urge Senator Ikra Aliyu Bilbis and other representatives to raise their voices and ensure that the suffering of our people is not ignored at the national level,” the statement added. CSNC said it would continue to mount pressure on elected officials at both the state and federal levels until Zamfara experiences a turnaround in security and governance. “We want peace. But peace will not come through platitudes. It requires bold leadership, integrity, and vision — all of which are sorely lacking in the current state government. Governor Dauda Lawal must wake up to his responsibilities or respectfully step aside for someone who can,” the statement concluded. |
Group Demands Defence Minister Badaru’s Resignation Over Attacks on Military Bases Following a series of coordinated attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters on military bases in Borno State, the Northern Patriots for Security and Development (NPSD) has called for the immediate resignation of the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, citing his inability to provide effective leadership for the armed forces. In a statement released in Kano on Tuesday evening, NPSD President, Alhaji Mansur Ibrahim Dantani, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in the North-East, attributing it to the Defence Minister’s lack of strategic direction and alleged political ambitions. “The recent attacks on military formations in Marte, Dikwa, Rann, and Gajiram within a 24-hour period, resulting in the loss of gallant soldiers and military equipment, shows a glaring failure in leadership at the highest levels of our defence architecture,” Dantani stated. He further alleged that Badaru has been more focused on positioning himself for the 2027 presidential elections than on addressing the pressing security challenges facing the nation. “It is disheartening to note that while our troops are making the ultimate sacrifice, the Minister of Defence appears to be more engrossed in political maneuverings aimed at advancing his presidential aspirations. This diversion of focus is detrimental to our national security,” he added. The NPSD also highlighted issues related to inadequate funding and resource allocation for the military, pointing out that despite budgetary provisions, the armed forces continue to grapple with insufficient equipment and logistical support. “Our investigations reveal that the Ministry of Defence has failed to ensure the timely release and proper utilization of funds earmarked for military operations. This has left our troops vulnerable and ill-equipped to confront the insurgents effectively,” Dantani emphasized. He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action by relieving Badaru of his duties and appointing a more competent and focused individual to head the Defence Ministry. “The security of our nation cannot be compromised by personal political ambitions. We urge President Tinubu to prioritize the safety of Nigerians by appointing a Defence Minister who is committed solely to the task of securing our country,” Dantani concluded. The NPSD’s call comes amid growing public outcry over the resurgence of insurgent activities in the North-East, with many Nigerians expressing frustration over the government’s handling of the security situation. As the nation mourns the loss of its brave soldiers, the demand for accountability and effective leadership in the defence sector continues to grow.

*House of Assembly Crisis: Why CBN, Accountant General Must Stop Monthly Allocations To Benue, Zamfara — Group The Concerned Citizens Network for Democracy (CCND) has given the Benue and Zamfara State Houses of Assembly a 72-hour ultimatum to recall all suspended lawmakers or face legal action seeking to halt statutory monthly allocations to the two states. In a statement issued in Abuja and signed by Moses Adamu, the group’s Secretary-General, CCND accused the state governments of supervising an ongoing constitutional breach, stressing that both Houses of Assembly currently lack the legal quorum required to function and pass appropriation laws. The group threatened to file a suit at the Federal High Court to compel the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant General of the Federation to withhold monthly FAAC disbursements until constitutional order is restored. “This is not just an internal matter within the legislature of two states. It is a clear case of abuse of democratic institutions, where state governors, in collaboration with the speakers, are running their states without the minimum legislative legitimacy required by law. It is a rape of democracy,” Adamu said. According to CCND, both Benue and Zamfara Assemblies have unlawfully suspended nearly half of their members, leaving behind insufficient numbers to meet the constitutionally stipulated two-thirds quorum. Yet, these minority legislators continue to sit, deliberate, and pass critical motions — including budget-related matters. “No House of Assembly can validly function, debate, or legislate without a legal quorum. When the majority of duly elected lawmakers are suspended under questionable circumstances, the assembly ceases to be legitimate. This undermines every law, appropriation, and oversight action carried out by the remaining minority members.” He added that the direct consequence of this illegality is that both governors — Hyacinth Alia of Benue and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara — are currently running governments that no longer have the endorsement of their state assemblies as constituted by law. “Without a legally constituted assembly, any action taken by the executive lacks the moral and legal seal of the people. These governors are not kings. They are elected heads of government, expected to govern with legislative oversight and institutional balance,” he added. CCND argued that the only peaceful and constitutional means to correct the ongoing abuse is to apply financial pressure by halting monthly allocations until the crisis is resolved. “Public funds are being released to state executives who are acting outside of constitutional provisions. The CBN and the Accountant General of the Federation must not continue to fund illegality. By continuing to disburse FAAC allocations to Benue and Zamfara states, federal institutions are aiding and abetting constitutional violations,” the statement added. The group likened the current situation to a private company operating without a functioning board of directors, stating that no legitimate financial institution would continue to release money in such circumstances. “The state Houses of Assembly are the people’s boardrooms. You cannot suspend half the directors and claim to be conducting lawful business.” Beyond the technical breach, the group raised concerns over the pattern of political intimidation behind the suspensions. In both states, suspended lawmakers are known critics of the executive arm, and many were removed after raising concerns about security, budget implementation and constituency project transparency. “This is not about disorderly conduct or gross misconduct as the speakers claim. This is about silencing opposition, clearing the path for unchecked control, and removing voices that demand transparency. It is dictatorship in democratic clothing,” the group said. Adamu said the CCND had credible information that some of the suspended lawmakers in Benue were denied access to the assembly complex and had their benefits frozen without due process. The group warned that the failure of civil society, federal institutions, and the judiciary to respond firmly to the situation could set a dangerous precedent where governors, in collaboration with pliant speakers, cripple state assemblies and rule without accountability. “If this pattern continues unchecked, governors across the country will see it as a playbook: suspend dissenters, shrink the assembly, rule without scrutiny, and get paid for it. Nigeria’s democracy is too fragile to permit such a loophole,” the statement read. The CCND said it is giving the governments of Benue and Zamfara three days to recall all suspended members and reinstate the constitutional balance of their assemblies. “If by the end of 72 hours there is no concrete step to resolve this, our lawyers will file a suit asking the Federal High Court to declare the current assemblies illegal and compel the federal government to freeze statutory allocations until due process is restored,” Adamu concluded. |
Why We Rejected N200 Million Bribe to Stage Protest Against President Tinubu, Matawalle — Group An advocacy group, the Northern Socio-Political Rights Network (NSPRN), says it turned down a N200 million bribe offered by proxies linked to the Zamfara State Government to mobilise a protest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. In a statement issued on Saturday in Kaduna, the group’s president, Mohammed Farouk Lawal, said the offer was made to them through third-party emissaries earlier this week, with clear instructions to publicly accuse President Tinubu’s administration of shielding Matawalle from corruption investigations. Lawal said the plot was part of a calculated campaign to weaken the federal government’s hold on the North-West by discrediting key appointees loyal to the president. “We were approached by individuals claiming to represent high-ranking officials in Zamfara. They offered us N200 million to organise a large-scale protest in Abuja, targeting President Tinubu and Dr. Matawalle,” Lawal said. “The aim was to give the impression that the North has turned against the president and that there is widespread outrage over perceived protection of certain ministers from investigation. We rejected the offer outright.” He alleged that the same network had already funded previous protests using other groups and was aggressively scouting for new voices to legitimise its campaign. “They are desperate for credibility. When they realised that our group has a clean record and strong grassroots following in the North, they thought buying us over would amplify their lies. But we are not for sale,” Lawal said. According to him, some of the terms of the deal included reading out pre-written scripts at press conferences, staging a protest at the EFCC headquarters, and creating viral videos calling for Matawalle’s arrest. The NSPR Network said the offer confirms that recent protests against the Minister of State for Defence were not grassroots-driven but part of a “state-funded blackmail operation”. “What is happening is an internal war against Tinubu’s appointees. We have it on good authority that these attacks are designed to cause disaffection ahead of 2027. But this group will not be part of it,” Lawal declared. The group commended President Tinubu for appointing northern leaders with capacity and defended Matawalle as one of the few former governors actively supporting military efforts to curb banditry and terrorism in the North. “While some are busy funding protests, the minister is helping to secure our region. Nigerians must see through this charade,” Lawal added. The group urged security agencies to probe the source of funds allegedly being used to sponsor political protests in the capital, warning that if unchecked, such actions could pose a threat to national stability. |
Zamfara Govt Sponsored Anti-Matawalle Protest to Undermine Tinubu’s Administration — APC Integrity Network …Says desperate plot to derail Tinubu’s security agenda will fail A prominent pressure group within the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Integrity Network, has accused the Zamfara State Government of sponsoring a recent protest against the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, as part of a broader plan to sabotage the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Bamidele Ibrahim Ayoola, President of the APC Integrity Network, described the protest staged by the so-called APC Young Leaders Alliance as a “cash-for-mob stunt” orchestrated by political hirelings loyal to the current Zamfara administration, aimed at distracting Matawalle from his ongoing service to Nigeria’s defence and security architecture. Ayoola said the protesters were “mobilised with peanuts” and that many of them had no knowledge of who Matawalle was or the content of the petition they supposedly supported. “It is shameful and dangerous for any group to rent a crowd to smear a sitting minister at a time when national unity and security should be our focus. We have credible evidence that these protesters were sponsored with state funds from Zamfara, with each participant receiving between N10,000 and N20,000 to carry placards they can’t even read,” Ayoola said. According to the APC Integrity Network, several eyewitnesses at the EFCC headquarters and within the Maitama axis confirmed seeing two buses, marked with Zamfara state government fleet numbers, dropping off the protesters at the EFCC gates in the early hours of Friday. “They arrived in chartered vehicles from Kaduna and Gusau, clearly not grassroots APC members as they claimed. Some of the placards were even mislabelled, calling the minister ‘Bello Masari’ instead of Matawalle, exposing the hasty nature of the arrangement,” Ayoola added. The group also released images and short video clips purportedly showing cash being handed out to some protesters after the demonstration, and claimed the funds were allegedly funneled through a proxy linked to a senior aide in the Zamfara government. Ayoola maintained that the campaign against Matawalle is part of a wider agenda to undermine the APC-led federal government and sow internal division within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said the protest was part of a deliberate campaign to destabilise the Tinubu government by attacking its key ministers, especially those seen as influential in northern politics. “This is not just about Matawalle. This is about weakening Tinubu’s cabinet from within and fuelling disunity in the APC. These enemies of progress are hoping to frame President Tinubu’s ministers as corrupt or ineffective ahead of 2027,” he added. “This is not just about Matawalle. It’s about distracting our party’s federal ministers and creating a false narrative of selective justice to confuse the public. This is about weakening Tinubu’s cabinet from within and fuelling disunity in the APC. These enemies of progress are hoping to frame President Tinubu’s ministers as corrupt or ineffective ahead of 2027.” Recall that Matawalle served as governor of Zamfara from 2019 to 2023 and was appointed Minister of State for Defence by President Bola Tinubu as part of efforts to strengthen the national response to insecurity, especially in the northern region. The APC Integrity Network says since assuming office, Matawalle has been “laser-focused” on tackling insecurity in Zamfara and other frontline states, and that “enemies of progress” are alarmed by the goodwill he has continued to attract across party lines. “It is unfortunate that while the minister is deploying his experience to help the Nigerian military counter banditry and terrorism, some bitter politicians in his home state are sponsoring protests to distract him,” the group said. “The truth is, the defence minister has been laser-focused on improving military operations in the North-West. That is why he’s being targeted. But the public must not fall for these diversionary tactics. If anything, this protest proves that he’s hitting the right nerves. “So we challenge the EFCC to investigate the source of the funds used to sponsor Friday’s protest. Who paid for the transport, food, accommodation, and banners? Nigerians deserve to know.” The APC Integrity Network urged President Tinubu, the National Working Committee of the APC, and security agencies to investigate what it described as a coordinated campaign to bring down prominent members of the party using state-sponsored blackmail. “If anyone has facts or proof against Matawalle, let them follow due process. But this rented crowd strategy must stop. The APC must not become a theatre for vendettas,” Ayoola concluded. The group also warned that should these “mercenary protests” continue, they would be forced to name and shame state actors funding the campaign, and petition relevant federal agencies for breach of public trust and diversion of funds. The APC Integrity Network vowed to remain vigilant and continue defending party leaders who are being unfairly targeted by what they called “enemies within and outside the party.” |
SD-WAN and ACI: Key Enablers of Nigeria’s Digital Infrastructure Evolution By Tolulope Samuel Afolabi, MNSE, CISM, PSM apanachat@yahoo.com SDWAN (Software Defined Wide Area Network) is a transformative architecture that consolidates the resources of multiple hardware controllers to establish secure WAN circuits between geographically dispersed locations. Similarly, Application-Centric Infrastructure (ACI) leverages several controllers to define and maintain seamless connectivity across enterprise network segments. According to Tolulope Samuel Afolabi, both technologies offer modern alternatives to legacy networking methods. Based on extensive field deployment, Tolulope Samuel Afolabi emphasizes that SDWAN and ACI shift network intelligence from hardware to software. These technologies are driven by centralized dashboards that enable streamlined administration, remote monitoring, and automation across complex environments. Within the Nigerian enterprise landscape, Tolulope Samuel Afolabi notes that SDWAN and ACI have proven critical in securely linking network segments while simplifying policy enforcement and reducing infrastructure complexity. Their implementation has enabled consistent performance across distributed branches. SDWAN offers cost efficiency by reducing dependence on expensive MPLS links. As highlighted by Tolulope Samuel Afolabi, organizations are integrating more affordable connectivity options—such as broadband, 4G/5G LTE, and VSAT with intelligent path selection, resulting in improved performance and service continuity. Another key advantage, observed by Tolulope Samuel Afolabi, is the reduced operational overhead enabled by SDWAN’s centralized network management. Traffic within the SDWAN fabric is encrypted using IPSec, protecting against eavesdropping, replay attacks, and man-in-the-middle threats factors increasingly important in a cybersecurity conscious environment. Cisco ACI, which has been implemented in several Nigerian enterprises under the guidance of Tolulope Samuel Afolabi, provides scalable datacenter automation. With its policy-driven design and microsegmentation capabilities, ACI enhances IT agility while securing workloads and protecting sensitive data. During the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of remote work, Tolulope Samuel Afolabi observed the role of SDWAN in maintaining secure access to enterprise networks. Financial institutions and service-based organizations leveraged this flexibility to ensure uninterrupted business operations across locations. In sectors such as oil and gas, SDWAN has helped organizations deploy connectivity at remote field sites. According to Tolulope Samuel Afolabi, startups also benefit from this architecture by gradually scaling infrastructure without incurring high administrative or maintenance costs. In conclusion, Tolulope Samuel Afolabi affirms that software-defined technologies like SDWAN and ACI are reshaping digital transformation across Nigeria. As the country moves toward localized data hosting and stronger digital sovereignty, these tools remain indispensable for building agile, secure, and scalable ICT ecosystems. Northern Group Alleges N200 Million Bribe From Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal to Frame Bello Matawalle The Concerned Northern Forum (CNF) has distanced itself from a controversial press conference held on Monday in Kaduna, where its supposed chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad Sani, accused the Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara Governor, Bello Matawalle, of financial mismanagement. In a sharp rebuttal on Tuesday evening, CNF Secretary, Abubakar Suleiman, described the event as a “shameful charade” allegedly sponsored with a N200 million bribe by agents of the current Zamfara Governor, Dauda Lawal. He said the aim was to smear Matawalle and distract from the real rot within the Zamfara government. “Governor Dauda Lawal and his people have tried everything possible to tarnish Matawalle’s image. This time, they bribed a handful of desperate individuals with N200 million to hijack our platform and stage a scripted attack. We disown that charade in its entirety,” Suleiman said. He maintained that the CNF neither authorised nor participated in the press conference and had previously warned Aliyu Sani not to drag the Forum into political vendettas. “No meeting was held, no mandate was given. What happened was the personal decision of a few compromised individuals. They do not speak for us,” Suleiman stated. He alleged that Lawal’s administration had diverted over N10 billion in local government funds to sponsor this and similar smear campaigns against Matawalle and the federal government, while governance in Zamfara continued to deteriorate. “Zamfara is on its knees. Insecurity is worsening, people are suffering, and instead of solving real problems, this administration is spending public funds on media stunts,” he said. Suleiman further revealed that during Monday’s event in Kaduna, the group deliberately refused to stand with Aliyu Sani after learning that he had recruited non-members and thugs with offers of N200,000 each — funds allegedly traced to Dauda Lawal. The CNF secretary also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to resist being used as a tool in political battles, stating that if anyone deserved investigation, it was Governor Lawal. “We challenge the EFCC to look into the billions received and mismanaged by Dauda Lawal in the past two years. His hands are not clean,” Suleiman asserted. “If those behind this plot do not retract their falsehoods and apologise publicly, we will explore legal options to defend the integrity of this Forum and the truth.” The CNF reaffirmed its stance on transparency, justice, and development, insisting that it will not be used to settle political scores.

*Revealed: Governor Dauda Lawal's Hosting Of Bandits Leaders Is Generating Fears Amongst Residents The security crisis in Zamfara State is set to go a full circle after the state governor, Dauda Lawal, secretly met bandit leaders, in a repeat of a strategy that analysts have dismissed as dangerously ineffective and capable of enabling the terrorists to regroup and escalate attacks on Nigerians. Governor Lawal reportedly hosted the bandit leaders at Command Guest in Gusau, the state capital, on Sunday. A source privy to the meeting named the bandits who met the governor as Wadalle, Ardo Nashawari, Na’eka and others lead by Alhaji Tukur, the state chairman Meyyeti Allah, and some members of the Fulani community in the state. The source, who craved anonymity because of the security sensitivity of the issue, explained that “the meeting was held under the guise of reconciliation and was at the behest of and under the instructions of the government of Zamfara State. “Some of the bandits were escorted to the meeting venue by members of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards dressed in military uniform,” the source revealed. A security analyst in Zamfara State, Alhaji Ahmed Bakare, had some weeks ago said the security challenges in the area "involves some powerful individuals in Nigeria,” saying that there have been mentioned of “some powerful individuals in Zamfara State, who are using their mining sites to influence the bandits ravaging the entire state.” Another analyst, who crave anonymity, said “These bandits are playing games with the governor because each time the military or federal might goes after them they appear with the gimmick of negotiating amnesty or ceasefire only to disappear with the funds made from the supposed peace initiative and use it to re-arm themselves. He said, “A thorough analysis will show that the Governor's approach is faulty and shows that he only cares when the bandits seem to be threatening his gold mining business.” The governor’s meeting with the bandits have reportedly increased the despondency among residents of the state. The security expert said “residents are of the view that each time such meetings held they have led to more loss of life and destruction of property and that from every indication people no longer have confidence that the governor can bring about lasting peace because the bandits have reportedly shown that they are part of his government. “People find it unconscionable that the bandits met with the governor and were able to return into the forests without consequences and that same had happened in the past with bandits even getting chieftaincy titles that were followed with more killing of innocent citizens,” he revealed.

By Osho Oluwatosin The internet has literally been on ‘fire’ since Friday following the arrest of self-acclaimed Nigerian activist, Martins Vincent, also known as Very Dark Man. He was reportedly picked up by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) due to reasons yet unknown. While it’s not the first time VeryDarkMan or any prominent Nigerian would be arrested by the EFCC — a government agency not under the authority of any private organization — it seems some Nigerians are passionately trying to push a narrative that his arrest was orchestrated by one of Nigeria’s biggest financial institutions, Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO). Although this narrative isn’t far-fetched — VDM had criticized the bank due to ‘mysterious’ deductions from his mother’s bank account for unjustifiable reasons. He approached the bank’s branch in Abuja to make an official complaint and, afterwards, he was picked up by the EFCC. But what many Nigerians have failed to realize is GTCO may not even be involved in his arrest. VeryDarkMan was seen in the bank, quite alright, but in a CCTV released by the bank, he was seen moving out of the bank when he finished. He even had a celebrity moment with some of his followers who took pictures with him before he was arrested. So I’m wondering, what has GTB got to do with his arrest? That someone got knocked down by a vehicle after leaving church, does it mean the church orchestrated the accident? That someone got attacked after leaving a lecture room, does it mean the lecturer orchestrated it? That someone even got attacked in a courtroom, does it mean the judge orchestrated it? Absolutely not. Although it would have been better if the EFCC had come out to clear the air regarding the reason for VDM’s arrest — because in the absence of information, rumours are bound to thrive. In fact, the commission should have actually released a statement regarding these rumours, not to vindicate GTB, but to keep Nigerians informed. Let’s even think about it logically: what can warrant GTCO to order VDM’s arrest by the EFCC? Did he defraud GTCO? Did he steal from a GTB customer? Did he launder money through a GTB account? These are questions that should be asked before passing judgments. But Nigerians are always emotional when it comes to issues like this, and that’s why people who are culpable in serious crimes get away with anything as long as they get involved in charity or activism. GTCO has been a very friendly organization and in 2024 alone, the bank paid a record dividend of N8 per share. The bank is happy, shareholders are happy, customers are happy — who is Very Dark Man? *Lagos Speaker Obasa Supports NIMA Memorial Foundation On Hygiene For Girls Child* Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), has clearly demonstrated his heartfelt commitment to the empowerment and upliftment of young girls. This dedication was prominently showcased at the annual symposium and grand ball organized by the NIMA Memorial Care Foundation, held at the Lagos Marriott Hotel and Resorts on Sunday. This year's event embraced the theme “Empowering Futures: Clean Water and Hygiene Support For Girl Child.” Although Speaker Obasa was unable to attend the symposium in person, his sentiments were represented by Hon. Prince Richard Adedamola Kasunmu, Deputy Majority Leader of LAHA. In his opening remarks, Kasunmu connected the audience to the renowned Afrobeat musician Fela Anikulapo’s song, “Water no get enemy,” setting a meaningful tone for his speech. He expressed the Speaker's steadfast support for the rights of young girls, advocating for their equal treatment and underscoring the necessity to see them as deserving citizens rather than second-class individuals. Speaker Obasa's administration has proactively championed female inclusivity within its cabinet by concentrating on ensuring access to clean water and proper hygiene. Partnerships with various foundations aim to provide sustainable clean water solutions for rural settings and educational institutions, aligning with the needs of the girl child. Representing Speaker Obasa, Kasunmu assured attendees that their endeavors would persistently aim for tangible improvements to enhance the quality of life for young girls within the community. During the event, Co-founder Mrs. Zainab Fashipe shared insights into the numerous obstacles that girls face, pinpointing a dire shortage of clean water and sanitary conditions. She provided poignant examples illustrating the reality of inadequate menstrual hygiene practices among young females. The NIMA Memorial Care Foundation was established to continue the altruistic legacy of Nimatallahi Monturayo Alake Fashipe, who tragically passed away at age 20 on March 2, 2023. Nimatallahi's profound impact on helping street children, providing clear water solutions in northern regions, and equipping orphans with essential skills provided the foundation for perpetuating her humanitarian contributions. During her speech, Mrs. Fashipe implored government entities, humanitarian agencies, and the Nigerian populace to back this noble cause, mentioning that their endeavors have been predominantly financed by donations and proceeds from her late daughter’s soap business. The symposium drew remarkable attention from distinguished guests like Prof. Anthony Kila, well-respected Director and Founder of the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies. Prof. Kila delivered an encouraging address, advocating for heightened government, individual, and corporate support towards the NIMA Memorial Foundation, recognizing its significant role in advocating for educational and developmental opportunities for young girls. Additionally, veteran Nollywood actress Ronnie Dikko made a notable contribution by lending her voice to the mission. She committed to offering her consistent support to the foundation and pledged her availability whenever required. Furthermore, the attendance of representatives from the Ogun and Lagos State commissioners, alongside the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development of Lagos State, lent governmental legitimacy and encouragement to the event's proceedings.

By Prince Adeyemi Aseperi-Shonibare "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." — Martin Luther King Jr. For over two decades, Lagos State has been unjustly denied the recognition of 37 additional local governments, which were legally created under the Nigerian Constitution. This is not a political maneuver—it is a legitimate demand for fairness, equity, and justice. The continuous refusal of the Federal Government and the National Assembly to rectify this anomaly is a clear case of injustice, and as the saying goes, justice delayed is justice denied.

The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, demonstrated religious tolerance by preaching at a pre-Ramadan lecture he was invited to in Lagos. The lecture, which took place on Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, was attended by Muslim faithfuls who were astonished by Primate Ayodele's unprecedented gesture—not only gracing the event but also preaching to them in the spirit of unity. At the lecture, Primate Ayodele spoke on the subject of love, emphasizing that the only thing God desires from mankind is the expression of love, regardless of any differences. He explained that he has not come into this life for religion but to do whatever God commands, with showing love being the most important. He also stated that he is less concerned if anyone dislikes him, as long as he is in right standing with God. Primate Ayodele expressed gratitude to the organizers for extending an invitation to him despite religious differences. “The only thing God wants is love. I am not against any religion because that’s not what I came into life for. I am only seeking God and doing things for God. I don’t care if anyone dislikes me, as long as God does. I am happy for what you’ve done—it was God who inspired you to invite me, and I appreciate you for extending the invitation.” He continued, urging the Muslim faithful present to always embrace love, explaining that nothing can harm someone who has true love for humanity. He also pointed out that without love, sin would abound, and as a result, God would distance Himself from humanity. “If you have love, no one can successfully do anything against you. Sin is what makes love far from us, and Allah is Love. If I didn’t love, I wouldn’t be here.” Additionally, Primate Ayodele urged President Tinubu to enact capital punishment for anyone who fights or kills in the name of religion, stating that such individuals should be regarded as bandits. “We urge Tinubu to create laws regarding religion. Anyone who fights or kills for religion should be killed. Anyone who fights because of religion should be considered a bandit. I am grateful for this invitation.” Primate Ayodele also made a donation to the Muslim community, promising to do more during Ramadan. It is important to note that Primate Ayodele’s relationship with the Muslim community has always been cordial. His church comprises both Muslim and Christian congregants. For Primate Ayodele, he believes every religion can peacefully coexist as long as there is love. This belief is also why he initiated a mosque project, inviting Etsu Nupe, Imams, and Muslim leaders to perform its groundbreaking ceremony. Furthermore, during Ramadan, Primate Ayodele always shares food items with the Muslim community, further demonstrating his unwavering love for Islam.
