Mobilize and Cast Your Votes Peacefully, Governor Adeleke Tasks Osun Residents

The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has called on people of Osun state to mobilize and troop out peacefully to elect leaders of their choice at Saturday's general elections.

In a pre-election statement he personally signed, Governor Adeleke described the Saturday election as "a critical milestone in national democratic development of Nigeria in which all eligible citizens must actively participate to decide the future of the nation.

" My good people of Osun state, the general election is here and we have a patriotic duty to actively join the electioneering process. Your vote is your power and your ticket to securing good governance for yourselves and our future generation.

" Our government has declared today a public holiday. All eligible voters must take up their voting cards and get set for the historical elections tomorrow. The electoral authorities have provided an enabling environment for the conduct of free and fair elections. Security agencies have also mobilized to protect citizens as they exercise their constitutional rights.

" Let me use this medium to warn against electoral violence. Security agencies are under strict instruction to clamp down on hoodlums and agents of violence. I have equally instructed service commanders to arrest thugs wherever they may be. This election must be held under a peaceful atmosphere. Democracy is about choice, not killing and maiming.

"I urge all of us as agents and lovers of democracy to make Osun state the most peaceful throughout this election period and beyond. We are peace loving people and we must remain so, now and all the time", the statement concluded.

The abductors of eight residents of Munu community in Rubochi in Kuje Area Council of the FCT have given relatives of the victims seven days to raise N16m or pick their corpses.

According to Dailytrust report, gunmen last Wednesday abducted eight people and killed two others after they invaded Munu community.

A family member of one of the abducted victims, Donathus Musa, who spoke with the publication on Sunday, said the kidnappers’ leader issued the threat while negotiating ransom.

He said it was after contact was established last Friday that the kidnappers’ leader demanded N30m, which was later slashed to N16m after intensive negotiation.

He explained that, “It was while one of the family members of the abducted victims was negotiating with them that their leader insisted that the family should raise N16m within a week or that they should be ready to come and carry their corpses.

“And aside from the ransom, they are also demanding foodstuff.”

The spokesman of the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, was yet to confirm the development at the time of filing this report.

Kogi Guber: APC Group Endorses Edward Onoja

Ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Kogi State, a frontline support group of the party, APC Kogi East Network (KEN) has endorsed the Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Edward David Onoja (CEDO) for the governorship primary of the party in the state .

In a statement released to newsmen in Anyigba on Monday by the (APC Organizing Secretary, North Central) and Patron of the group, Hon. Ahmedi Attah, the group said it arrived at the choice of Chief Edward Onoja because of his proven track records in office as well as his administrative dexterity and youths empowerment programmes across the state.

Noting that Edward is the only person among the pool of aspirants who has capacity to take our dear state to it's destination.

As former Chief of Staff to Governor Yahaya Bello and current Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Onoja is the only man with the magic wand to sustain the 'new direction policy' of the state.

The group urged Governor Bello not to throw his weight behind any 'political outsider' who has not been thoroughly mentored on the ethos of good governance and the 'New Direction' policy thrust of our government.

While assuring CEDO of landslide victory in the upcoming party primary, the group offered to purchase the 'Nomination and Expression of Interest' forms for him if he wouldn't mind.
