logbon72: Hello, has anyone sent his/her bank account?Thanks a lot. |
dualprince: @all please does any1 av info on schools dat av start dates as early as jan or feb next year and their application is still on? Please guys let's talk about this cos it seems all d entry date I can see is sept 2013 which I tink is too far frm now.Check Northwestern University and Columbia University. Their Engineering applications are still open for January (Northwestern only) and March (Columbia and Northwestern) entries. I don't know about other courses. They require GRE and TOEFL. |
rexel99: guy, what other criteria is NUC mearnt to use aside the test scores, NUC has come out to start recently dat the WAEC scores were used!!! For God sake , when u start using such metric or criteria's, we all know that some sort of funny things will take place, NUC can easily hide under the guise that even though Mr A scored higher than me, he was called cos his WAEC score was better than urs. Why didnt NUC specify the type of WAEC result they want b4 the candidates applied. It horrible and their is no need justifying it cos u were successful. am sure if a candidates contest this further, he might even b told '' oh, we used the school u graduated from as a criteria too.I'm sorry you feel this way, but I suggest you forward your grievances to NUC. They will be able to give you a better explanation. |
PhatIon: This thread has so far (in my opinion) been the most decent I've seen on nairaland, with people freely expressing their opinions very responsibly.Well said!! |
Nkematics: Please, could someone here tell me where I can register for GRE and TOEFL in Abuja, and a rough estimate of the registration fee. I contacted someone through a link I got online, and I was informed that TOEFL=35K and GRE=40K. I don't know whether the information is true. I need an urgent reply, please. You can contact First Logic. Their contact details are shown below: Abuja Office, 784a Herbert Macaulay Way, Ground Floor Nigerian Re-insurance Building. Email- Abj@firstlogicng.com Tel- +234-9-6710039, +234-9-2909224. The prices of GRE and TOEFL exams depends on where you register to write them. But the estimate you have given is quite okay. |
Hi everyone, Those that were shortlisted and don't have admissions to any of the top 25 universities yet, could check Columbia University, US (www.columbia.edu). Their School of Engineering is still accepting applications for March Entry. Deadline is Nov. 1. You require GRE and TOEFL though. All the best as you apply. |
Congrats to all those who were shortlisted. To those who weren't shortlisted, don't give up. Greater days are ahead! |
Nkematics: There are some things I observed about this scholarship and I just hope NUC and FG should already have put them into considerationNice one, but I think First Class Graduates who know about the PRESSID scholarship (and are interested) should apply for admission by themselves this year, with the hope that they will get the scholarship next year. It's not right for everything to be pushed to FG and NUC (even though they have their parts to play). |
gzendo: Nice contributions and comments guys. Firstly, I must state at this point that no actions aimed at rubbishing the credibility of the NUC, FG etc is intended, or should be encouraged. I only emphasised that being kept in the dark is not fair at all. They may be making very positive efforts and working tirelssly to make the scheme work, against odds, in the nation's interest and we are unaware of this. So jumping into conclusions that they are dubious and dishonest at this point could be quite hasty. I mentioned the press to help us get the right answers directly from the concerned sources, and nothing else. The write-up is brilliant and I salute the writer, few people even in the writing business can write this well, trust me - articulate and elaborate. I hail you sir. My contribution is that it should be toned down a little. Credit should be given to FG for initiating the scheme in the first place. It was non-existent before now, and FG even hopes to make the funding a part of the national budget by next year. Commendable. The article, in the tone it has been written, would be very suitable in later stages, when it must have become obvious that there is no sincerity. God forbid that such a stage should be reached anyway. It could also be that the NUC is done with her own part of the assignment for now, waiting for the FG, like someone pointed out, we do not know. So for now, there is need to be diplomatic and polite enough. The aim for now should be getting quality information on the status of the scheme. Some persons seem to have direct contact and communication with the committee members. They could also help in milking out some information for us. I understand with everyone on this forum anyways. The situation aroused our curiousities and so we have this in our hands. Have a good day guys. All will be well at the end, trust me.I agree with you. I think we should all wait patiently for the final result and give FG a chance to finish the good work they have started. I believe they are aware that most schools have resumed already. Let's still give them some time to finish what they have started. If after the long wait, it becomes obvious that corruption affected the final result, then we can make our grievances known. It's also good to remember that this is the "maiden edition" of this scholarship.... I checked NUC's website a moment ago, and saw a little change reflecting some old PRESSID information. So I believe they still have us and the scholarship at the back of their minds. I want to encourage everyone still waiting for PRESSID to hold on, all hope is not lost yet. ![]() |
GiantParrot: I just joined this forum after observing the comments on this thread for some time. I must say that I am highly impressed by the comments of people like PhatIon.During the application process, there was a part that said the application was for "MSc to PhD", which means they are sponsoring up to PhD level. This is similar to what President Goodluck Jonathan said when the PRESSID Committee was inaugurated. They also gave an opportunity for First Class Graduates who are already pursuing a Masters Degree to apply. According to this link: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/05/jonathan-inaugurates-scholarship-scheme-for-first-class-graduates/, the President said: "The ministry of education and this committee will have to travel to these universities to negotiate for positions in the top 25 universities in the world. The idea is: for you to benefit, you must have a first class. It is based purely on merit, no quota. We are giving opportunity for best brains." I don't know how feasible getting admissions for the successful candidates will be, but that is what Mr President insinuated. You can make whatever conclusions you want to make from his statements, but I think the admission process (i.e application for admission) should be done by the candidates. This is just my opinion, I may be wrong. |
whizkidy: If you tune to NTA right now you'll see the award ceremony for 500 graduates of kano origin to pursue their postgraduate studies abroad. The governor said the total cost was put at 1 million dollars and another batch would be going by january next year. If a whole state can do this without any stupid Test I wonder why our goverment can't just do it for 449. I am sure kano state indigenes who wrote the test will be laughing at us by now. I can't but join them in laughing our leaders to scornThat's nice. Congrats to all those who made it. But Kano State also had their own method of selection. I think the candidates were interviewed or something, cos someone I know went for the selection process. |
