For those who have applied using the online process: after one submits the application online, can one go to the VAC at any time (that day, next day or any day) to submit passport and biometrics or will you be given a date when you must come? Please, I need this info to plan properly for a day-off from work and I have been unable to find a precise answer on the CIC website. Thanks. P.S.: I'll appreciate if you can also elaborate on what that day will look like in terms of how many hours it could take, how early I should arrive, etc. |

jaylinaaa: Thank you very much your helpful response. Yeah, you're right, I am applying for a work permit not study.(I think I mentioned that in my last post) If I can't come up with any grand plan to get the employee reference letter, I'll go with your suggestion of employment letter and id card. and also probably use my account statement in place of pay slip. I just hope it doesn't carry any severe implications for my application. Thanks again. |

Bellniki1: Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, asking the guys in HR/Admin is tantamount to asking the Boss. They are all part of the ruling 'cabal'. I'm thinking of using my bank statement in place of the pay slip as someone else advised here. |

twAYz: Here are some suggestions based on my experience: 1. Your professor can use his company email address if he owns or works with another establishment. then in the 'title' field while completing the recommendation should put: professor at xyz university and director at abc company. 2. this may be your more likely bet. the university you're applying to may allow other means for verifying the referee. one way may be for the referee to scan his university id card or provide a link to one of his papers online (if he's a professor or PhD holder, he should have atleast one paper that is accessible online) I suggest you write to the department you are applying to find out more about option 2 |

Guys, it's great to be here. I will be applying by the end of this month for a temporary work permit in Canada (I am participating in a one-year program there). This is my first post on this thread and I have a few questions: 1) Aside an Appointment Letter from my current employer (in Nigeria), I am also requested to provide an Employment Reference Letter, i.e., a recently-dated letter from my current employer giving details of my work history with them (duration, job specs, etc). The problem is I can't tell my current employer that I am leaving. How do I get this letter? Any alternative? 2) The company also doesn't issue pay slips. How do I deal with that requirement too? 3) My bank statement may have helped to address the pay slip matter since the Salary credit will be seen at the end of every month's statement. Unfortunately, it was not in the checklist of documents that I need to submit. I am surprised. Is this the norm? Do I attach it in some other way? or just ignore? 4) If my occupation is not a regulated one like medical jobs, what do I upload in place of the required license/certification? Thanks in advance. |

omogidi234: I have used quickteller before payments but not PHCN. Please try and see if it can work. Do you mean for bills other than PHCN bill? cos I have been to both first bank and fidelity's ATMs and the option for paying PHCN bill is there but seems to be disabled. |

Does anyone know if there's any other more convenient means of reloading the prepaid meter card without having to go to the PHCN office? At portharcourt, I hear it's only at the Trans-Amadi PHCN office that one can do this. |
Education / Masters In UK Or US - Which Is Preferable? by Tryxo(m): 10:38pm On May 13, 2012 |
Hi guyz, I am planning towards my masters programme, hopefully in about one year from now and am trying to decide which is a better choice between the US and UK. My most important factors for consideration are scholarship opportunities and an environment that provides for exciting learning. I am also open to other factors that you think should also take precedence in making this decision. But most importantly, I hope to get experience-based opinions. Thanks in advance. |

Romance / Never Gone, Never Far by Tryxo(m): 10:34pm On Jan 13, 2012 |
it is 2am on the 9th of January, 2012. Tears flow freely from my eyes, for the first time in a very long while. My mind is occupied with thoughts of you, I guess i cry for a number of reasons, not just one. I cry because I miss you, though its not been long since we last saw, and though i know i'll see you again, soon, I miss you even more, cos i feel we're falling apart. I feel like you are drawing farther, farther from me than the physical distance seems, and even though we talk occasionaly, I still miss your voice, you still seem so distant. don't get me wrong, I'm in no way trying to blame you, there are Circumstances known to both of us, and its responsible for the wall between us, more tears, I cry most especially because I love you, I have never meant those words this much in my life, in fact i have hardly ever said it, but with you it seems natural to speak it, to feel it, I cry for what life without you might be, (more and more tears). I cry because i have tried to think, think of falling in love again, Ive tried to think of what she would look like, but, *tears*, all I see is you, knowing that I must, how can i separate myself from your love. i always dreamed of a friend, when i was younger I wrote of a confidante, one i would have in future, who would be the best thing ever to happen to me, i even told of you of her. I told you i expected this person to be a she, when i eventually find her, that is if I eventually found her. Heaven knows i eventually found her, I found her but didn't realize. I found her in a fair maiden with a large heart. i always thought what true love would be like, how i would know the exact right feeling, but you defined it, True love is someone you can be yourself with, and share literally anything. NOBODY knows as much of my life, my past, of me as you do. True love is when you cant imagine a life, a life without that person, You try but you cant imagine it, she pops up everywhere in your imaginations, words don't come close to how your heart really feels about her. despite all the words i have used at this hour, i still feel insufficient, these words do my heart a disservice. but for the love i have for you, I must bring this to a halt. my heart's ramblings will soon begin to bore you, its time to walk away and take this especially painful decision, Loving you was bliss, I wonder if time would ever take it away, you are NEVER GONE from me, you are NEVER FAR from my heart, my tears have stopped, but my heart still throbs, i just smiled, you usually say i talk a lot about my heart, I know that i am guilty of it again, but is the human HEART not at the center of LOVE and LIFE? it is impossible to separate it from the life i have, or the immense feeling that burdens my chest, i evaded sleep this morning, to find words to let you know that i love you, but more importantly, that i'll always love you, You are always in my heart. signed in your own words: TCCIC |

Hi Kiki, well u can say i am somewhere between the lines. I completed my project work and defence last month, which is essentially my last academic commitment towards a 1st degree. We are yet to convocate and even see our final results, so in essence also, we've not graduated. But I applied for this competition a few months back, as a 500level(final year) student, ofcourse. |

Wow! When I saw 75 votes, I knew this thread had gotten to the home page. Thank you Seun/Moderator. @bomly. This work arose from extensive medical research that shows that infants especially at the early stage of birth primarily communicate through the cry sounds they produce. Thus most conditions or pathologies in newly born infants such as asphyxia, hearing difficulties usually reflect in the cry which is essentially sound waves. Thus, from the IT perspective, the wave patterns unique to a particular condition can be studied and learnt using a pattern classification model. This learning process then makes it possible to be able to identify babies whose cry wave patterns matches any of the 'learnt' ones. It is possible to do this pattern classification models such as support vector machine(svm), connectionist models(neural networks) or even Genetic programming as some have proposed. I am using Artificial Neural Networks with MATLAB for the initial stage of the work. My final goal is to launch the App on a mobile platform, preferably Android. I hope I was able to summarise it well enough. Keep the votes coming guyz. |
