The preferable source of heating during brooding is charcoal especially for commercial broiler production. The weather has been extremely cold at my end and i wanted to save money on cost, so i was using wood during the day and charcoal at night. Unfortunately I noticed that my birds were sneezing yesterday night. That could have explained the high mortality i have had so far. Lesson: Dont use any source of heat that will trap smoke in the brooding house.

Yes it does. If you think 1 Square foot isnt enough, you can use 1.5 square feet. 2 square feet is too much.

The standard is 1 Square Foot per bird. 100 ft by 25 ft will do.

Charcoal as source of heat. Cover the pen in sacks or taupulin and cardboard as chick guard. Cost of housing depends on the standard of the pen, the topography of the land and other factors. A budget of 1M should build a 2000 - 3000 capacity pen. It could be lesser or more depending on your taste.

1/2/16: Arrival of DOCs from Amo Farms. Chicks were given glucose+ multivitamins + Antibiotics.

You can use any of Roofers, Animal Care or Amo concentrate. Amo, Obj farms, Animal Care, Child farms sell good DOCs.

I know there has been a lot of thread of broiler production, however, I would like to share my experience with nairalander.

I formulate both feeds and concentrates. By formulating your own feed, you have the opportunity of giving your birds the best at a cheaper price. e. g, producing your super starter feed of 23%cp at the cost of N2450 to N2500 per bag and a starter feed of 21.5%cp at N2300 maximum. By feeding your birds the super starter, your quality day old broilers will attain a table weight of 2kg-2.5kg at 6 weeks having applied a good management. let me stop here for now.

Do you formulate feeds or you buy concentrates and mix? What is the cost saving compared to buying branded feeds?

Mix anticocci plus antibacterial, make sure your birds recover properly before you start any vaccination.

PLEASE URGENT ADVICE IS NEEDED!!!

I'm new in broiler farming, though an experienced friend advises me. I have 385 surviving broilers (out of 403 stock of 1 day old chicks) which are 4 weeks old, today. I administered Lasota on my broilers yesterday morning. But this morning two have died and two are very weak. I also discovered that some of them are infected with coccidiosis (and are discharging blood in their faeces), some showing symptoms of cough (discharge of green faeces), some white watery faeces while others a combination of two cases.

In view of this complicated case of infections, can I administer about three different antibiotics at the SAME TIME against the three major infections suspected?

More like 5-6 weeks depending of the source/quality of doc and other factors mentioned earlier by zopakks. I usually attain 2kg weight in 6 weeks.
