A 65.2 metre (214-foot) steamship called the John V. Moran has been discovered in Lake Michigan, more than a century after it sank. A team with the Michigan Shipwreck Research Association located the vessel off the coast of Muskegon last month during a sonar search. Because the shipwreck sits under 365 feet of lake water, officials with the association decided to wait for the water to warm up before performing a dive. With help from the Michigan State Police Underwater Recovery Unit, the team reached the wreck on July 8, just over 116 years after the ship sank.....read more and see photos here: http://duketunde..com/2015/07/dive-team-discovers-116-year-old.html |

Beijing has launched a diplomatic protest after Myanmar handed down more than 150 life sentences to Chinese nationals for illegal logging near the countries' shared border. | Foreign Affairs › Apocalyptic Scenes As Wildfires Set Vehicles Alight In California by tunderoc(op): 7:06pm On Jul 18, 2015 |
A huge fire broke out on the freeway in California yesterday July 17, The fire, which erupted just after 2:30 p.m. and quickly grew to 3,500 acres, shut down the highway in both directions. By evening, it had destroyed 20 vehicles and at least four homes, and was bearing down on mountain communities. Most lanes of the 15 were open by Saturday morning, but hundreds of firefighters were still on the lines. In a region where brush fires are a way of life, the scene on the main route to Las Vegas was surreal. Many of those who fled their vehicles panicked, unsure of where to find safety as they watched the land around them burn. Cars, trucks and even a boat went up in flames on the freeway. Helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft made dramatic drops of water and flame retardant. http://duketunde..com/2015/07/us-flames-sweep-over-freeway-motorists.html |
