I think a bill should be passed barring all public office holders from travelling abroad for treatment...maybe by then, our consulting clinics would be upgraded. |

Religion has taken the center stage in all our day to day dealings with the world, we attach religious sentiment to drive home our point in every argument,we see those that don't share in our ideals as enemies of God and those who don't exalt our GOs and as too arrogant , Even if the nation's economy isn't too encouraging, that does not suggest we should lose our sense of reasoning, these so called prophets of God cruise around in exotic automobiles, build houses all around the world expand their business empires (churches) at every given opportunity, they globe trot in the name ministering around the world yet, some members despite their patronage to these churches remain in abject poverty. The most pathetic of it all is that majority of these churches have schools which could only be attended by children of the wealthy few yet, every member regardless of income pays tithe monthly. What would anyone use to convince me that these annual programmes are fashioned to alleviate poverty within the churches when some members(customers) still wallow in poverty year in year out? The earlier we open our eyes and say NO to extortion from all these business men parading themselves as God's chosen, the better it will be for us. ***Extras*** How many Jobs have these churches created for the masses? yet, they are springing up schools of higher learning every now and then. What has been their corporate social responsibilities to the nation over the years? |

president Jonathan recently called for consumption of locally made food including cassava bread. My fear is that Ijebu people may use this as an avenue to remove subsidy on garri or what do you think considering many loads that will be on cassava? |
The present environment of the school is truly an eyesore compare to what we used to have in the 90s, I think it's a nice move by BRF! Birch Freeman, Trained for duty and for thee! |

If I am to change the face of governance in Nigeria, I would make public offices a nightmare for would-be officers. The best attire for public office holders would be ankara, their automobiles would be motorcycles and the richest of them would ride on tricycles, they would not have money to patronize well equipped hospitals yet they would suffer the most dreadful ailments, their salaries would not be paid until 15th of every new month, their children would attend public schools with thatched roof over their heads. Task of governing would be so cumbersome that hardly would they sleep at nights, they would work like an elephant and eat like an ant, electorates would force them to contest elections, state houses would be built at “centres of gravity” just like village square in our folklore. No special treatment would be accorded any serving officer as they would all share toilets, kitchens and bathrooms. No resignation would be allowed during service and there would be elongation of tenure, all contracts would be awarded to experts and not money bags. All elected officers would swear before the gods of iron (ogun) before assuming office, while those that are pot-bellied would swear with radiator water. Meanwhile, it is those that served selflessly that would be entitled to national award after service. |
I have come to realize that the difference between the Boko Haram massacre and everyday life in Nigeria is that one kills 'once' while the other takes life gradually, pipe borne water (if there is any) is not potable, roads are death traps, power supply is epilleptic, hospitals are glorified clinics, eating staple foods is a luxury. What is your take on this? |
0 1980s,90s and some parts of 2000,Nigerians were usually bonded together not only by football but by popular local soap operas and some Latin American telenovelas (dominantly from Mexico). In the late 80s/early 90s Cock crow at Dawn ,Village Headmaster,Mirror in the sun,Behind the Clouds,Ripples,Mind Bending,Supple Blues,Checkmate and Fortunes hit the airwaves.Family, friends and foes would gather to see these soaps after the day’s work, usually at night. However, these local soaps started giving ways to foreign telenovelas which an average Nigerian became addicted to,the signature tune of these soaps would get everyone running helter skelter to find a place to view them,Bars are usually filled up to the brim, road side record sellers could also earn a living if passers-by were mandated to pay to view the programme. The Latin American “The Rich Also Cry”,”Secrets of the Sand”, “No one but you”,”Lady of the Rose”, “Maria De los Angeles” were all love stories presented to non Spanish audience with strong English voice over. After and episode, lovers of these soaps would gather to suggest what would happen in the next episode of the suspense-filled stories.Gatherings back then can only be likened to when people gather to discuss football today. In 2005,there came “When you are mine”, “Catalina and Sebastian”,”The Gardener’s Daughter”, “Second Chance”,” Until my last Breath” and “Lorenzo’s wife”…These soaps attracted a huge viewership across the nation while they ran on our airwaves and subsequently brought into our midst “FRIENDSHIP”. Things however took a new turn when broadcasting started giving way to narrow casting and this is the end result of placing more priority on money rather than national cohesion, home videos and cable satellites are now the best media to see educative films,it is now a question of “what you pay determines what you see”,all that is left for our local channels to transmit are films by unpopular producers craving for relevance in the industry. My submission,As part of their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR), corporate organizations should sponsor more interesting tv series where everyone can benefit and not game shows where only few benefit…Broadcasting promotes peace more than narrow casting!!! |
