President Goodluck Jonathan has directed that salaries of Federal Government workers be paid by today to enable Muslim faithful celebrate Eid el-Fitr this weekend, Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has said. President has ordered an expedited salary payment in view of Sallah holidays that are coming up. We are happy to announce that between today and tomorrow, all those in the Federal payroll should be able to collect their salaries and have a good holiday. This is based on the directive of Mr President," the minister told a news conference in Abuja yesterday. This is not the first time that the President was directing for early salary payment to workers, most of whom hardly get paid before month end, but the last such directive did not materialise. In January, he instructed salary payment by 20th of the month to help cushion the effect of petrol subsidy removal but that directive was not implemented for no clear reason. "As part of measures to address the discomfort and pains the citizens are going through, Mr. President had directed that by the 20th of this month, salaries in the public service should be paid," Information Minister Labaran Maku announced on January 4 at the end of an emergency meeting of the Federal Executive Council in the wake of the subsidy removal protests. But a week into February, the salaries were not paid because of what officials at the account general's office said were problems caused by the national strike. Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala did not say yesterday what steps were taken to ensure the execution of the president's latest orders on early salary payment. Most federal workers receive their monthly salaries well into the following month, and in many cases get owed salaries for several months. http://news.naij.com/5819.html |

ayoola2002: How many rich man has gone to jail in this country? Cecelia ibru, bankole, faruq lawal are they in jail now? Please read the post again...i said poverty could have made him thought the whiteman could be on his trail and this might be his reason for returning the money. Ayoola, never compare a common thief in nigeria to executive thieves. If he had made an attmept to run away with the money and was caught,he would have probably been sentenced to life imprisonment. |
Those who see the man's gesture as a pre-requisite for leading a corruption-free nation forget that poverty atimes might force one to do what he/she would ordinarily not do. The man in question might not even think of getting any reward from God but, feared that if the oyinbo man eventually traced him (which is to a large extent impossible if he plays his card smartly), he might end up in jail. As much as i'm not in support of what those who are castigating the man are saying, so do i believe that 'poverty can rip one of a lifetime opportunity' even when such opportunities are legitimate. |

I was amazed when someone told me it's possible for set of twins to have different fathers. I argued it out that it can't be since it is only an egg that can be released in a cycle and once this egg is fertilized, there will be no room for ovulation (which is the only period eggs are released) till the baby is born. However, i was asked to google HETEROPATERNAL SUPERFECUNDATION and see what it means. truly, i did and found out that it is possible in animals and it is the result of hyperovulation in mammals. Can doctors in the house shed more light on this. Thanks. |
