Politics / Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, Speaks On Abuja House Theft by TunnyOgunnowo(m): 10:37pm On Aug 01, 2017
The former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has spoken on the theft of his property from his house in Abuja.

A statement by Mr. Jonathan’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Eze, said, “The house, which the former President bought from CITEC estate developers in 2004, was totally stripped bare by the thieves who stole every movable item in the house including furniture sets, beds, electronics, toilet and electrical fittings, as well as all internal doors and frames.”

Read Mr. Eze’s full statement below.

Following series of enquiries from journalists and other concerned Nigerians on the extent of the reported vandalisation and theft in the house of former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan located in Gwarinpa Abuja, we therefore would like to make the following clarifications:

1) The theft was discovered last month upon which a report was duly lodged with the relevant police authorities.

2) The police immediately commenced investigations which led to the arrest and detention of some suspects, six of whom were policemen, even as investigations continue.

3) The house, which the former President bought from CITEC estate developers in 2004, was totally stripped bare by the thieves who stole every movable item in the house including furniture sets, beds, electronics, toilet and electrical fittings, as well as all internal doors and frames.

4) However, contrary to exaggerated reports in some media, only six television sets, 3 refrigerators and one gas cooker were stolen. Being that the house is a modest 4-bedroom duplex, it couldn’t have been fitted with “36 Plasma television sets and about 25 refrigerators” as falsely reported by some media outfits.

5) We thank all Nigerians for their show of concern and wish to convey the former President’s goodwill to all Nigerians.

Celebrities / If You Think Wizkid & Davido's Lyrics Are Trash Then You Have Selective Amnesia by TunnyOgunnowo(m): 9:31pm On Aug 01, 2017
My mind always gets boggled when I see social media comments that say Wizkid and Davido’s music is trash. I believe people who say this have selective amnesia. These people I am talking about are those older than 25 years who witnessed the beginning of the Afro-pop era.

As someone who is leaning towards 30 years of age, I can authoritatively state that I witnessed the beginning of Afro-pop. My father has been a long fan of Fuji and Apala music. His music archives are filled with Ayinde Barrister, Kollington, Haruna Ishola, Adewale Ayuba, and Saheed Osupa. Despite the fact that Fuji was the major sound in our home, my father still bought me new school (the late 90s and early 20s) music.

My father introduced me to music with records of Tony Tetuila, Eedris Abdulkareem, Daddy Showkey, Awilo, etc. These were the maker of the sounds we boogie to in parties. On the streets, I found Plantashun Boiz and a few more others. Aside from Plantashun Boiz who had incredible records with powerful lyrics, all other sounds at the time were as ‘trash’ as the new Wizkid and Davido’s.

Thinking back at those hits like ‘My Car” by Tony Tetuila, Eedris Abdulkareem’s ‘Lecturer’, I believed they all paved the way for the likes of Wizkid and Davido to come and thrive with ‘cheap’ lyrics. Can we now look at Nigeria’s Afro-Pop and blame Wizkid and Davido when they are only an improvement on what has been in the music industry for long?

If you jammed to Tony Tetuila, Eldee Tha Don, and others and you are of the belief that they were the biggest sounds in that era, then you have selective amnesia if you also think Davido and Wizkid are trash. The truth is that these youngsters are an upgrade of the sounds we have in that era.

Look at the biggest hits we have this year. From Davido’s ‘Fall’ and ‘If’ to Wizkid’s ‘African Bhad Gyal’ and ‘Sweet Love’, you can easily compare this to Weird MC’s ‘IjoYa’ or Olu Maintain’s ‘Yahooze’. No doubt, many of the old hit songs have empty lyrics just like the ones we have now, but Wizkid and Davido are not trash.

Many of you continue to say these duo and the likes of Tekno are trash, but you never listen to the artistes who actually show a lot of potential with their solid works. Many of you would not pay to go see Asa, Brymo, Timi Dakolo, Kiss Daniel, etc, but will dance to Wiz and OBO, yet they are trash to you.

What is not trash to you? Eedris Abdulkareem’s ‘Mr Lecturer’? Since we enjoyed the old guys, let’s learn to flow with the latest tides. Wizkid and Davido are not trash!

What are your thoughts on this?

Business / 8 Sure Causes Of Business Failure by TunnyOgunnowo(m): 9:08pm On Aug 01, 2017
With the trending economic situation, many businesses have failed. Regardless, many of the causes of business failure can be prevented. These causes will help you put together a plan to make sure your business is around for decades.

Lack of experience
Lack of experience is one of the causes of business failure. If you are inexperienced or your management is made up of novices, then your business is likely to fail. When starting a new business, it is advised you get the services of people experienced in that field.

No accountability
Some people throw accountability into the dustbin because they own the business, Hence, there is no difference between their personal money and business money. They simply spend. You must be accountable for any kobo your business spend and makes.

Poor location
You cannot start a business where the service is not needed. Making it classy will not make people patronise you. A good market survey is required before a business location is chosen.

Failure to understand your market and customers
It’s important that you understand your market and customers buying habits. Answering questions about who your customers are and how much they are willing to spend.

Overdependence on a single customer
If your biggest customer walked out the door and never returned, your organisation or business may be done for. Hence, do not rely on a single customer. Try as much as possible to diversify your customer base.

Copying others
What worked for Mr A may not work for Mr B. Many people have gone into business or made a business choice because they see others doing it and think they can be successful in it if they try. It is good you add your own idea after proper consultation, that will make you different.

Quitting too soon
Giving up too early is the biggest reason why many businesses fail. If you do not persist, research, fail and try and try again, you might not be successful in business.

Inadequate financing
A business will definitely fail if there is no cash flow. Your business needs a steady cash flow to take it through its day to day running.

Culture / Re: Sikiru Adetona, Awujale Of Ijebu Is Dead by TunnyOgunnowo(m): 10:13pm On Jul 31, 2017

Culture / Awujale Is Not Dead, He Is Alive – Cousin Debunks Rumours by TunnyOgunnowo(m): 10:10pm On Jul 31, 2017
The Awujale of Ijebu Ode and paramount ruler of Ijebu Land, Sikiru Adetona, is alive, contrary to rumour, the monarch’s cousin and Managing Director of News Agency of Nigeria, Bayo Onanuga said.

The rumour of the Awujale’s passing started going viral on social media platforms, especially Facebook, Monday afternoon.

“It’s not true; he is alive and I spoke with him today,” said Mr. Onanuga. “He is in Lagos and he is just laughing over the rumour.”

Mr. Onanuga said the monarch was ill two weeks ago and travelled to Lagos for treatment at a hospital from which he was discharged two days afterwards.

“We are from the same ruling house; I’m his cousin. That’s why we are close, not because of I’m a Journalist,” said Mr. Onanuga.

Mr. Onanuga said it was not the first time the monarch would be rumoured to have died.

The Awujale was born in 1934 and ascended the Ijebu throne in 1960.

“Yes, the man is old,” remarked Mr. Onanuga, “but he is fine.”

He disclosed the monarch is in popular Lagos hotel where he has been resting since he was discharged from the hospital.

In Ogun State, a source at the palace of the monarch also debunked the rumour.

‎”Not true. Kabiyesi is recuperating and presently at the Oriental Hotel in Lekki,” the source said.

Gospel singer, Nathaniel Bassey, who recently convened a worship session which got Nigerians and residents in other countries glued to Social Media every midnight, is now ripping the benefits of his efforts in convening the multi national praise session which lasted one month.

Health / Update On Peace, Girl With Multicoloured Eye Balls Pictured At Mile 12 Market by TunnyOgunnowo(m): 6:00pm On Jul 31, 2017
On Saturday a photo of Peace, a young girl with multi coloured eye balls became a trending topic, if you missed it goto > https://www.nairaland.com/3954137/girl-multicoloured-eye-balls-mile

But shockingly, the photographer in her intentions to do a proper photo shoot for Peace went back to Mile 12 market but she was taken by heavy surprise by Mile 12 marketing women. The market women started calling her names and almost tagged her a kidnapper saying the girl is too young to be that exposed.

Read below as she narrates her experience:

I can't believe how ignorant and envious people can be... I went to meet peace where her mum sells Ugwu and I was almost eaten raw by the Ugwu sellers there... I was so disoriented!

Peace' Mum didn't complain, I already spoke with her Dad and he was grateful but these women couldn't hide their jealousy, they made a scene and almost tagged me a kidnapper...people started gathering.

The envious Ugwu women said they saw her pictures everywhere on the internet that she was too young, I asked them if she was too young to be successful?

These women were trying to convince her mum not to allow me take her to the studio for professional photos. They even blamed her for allowing me to take the pictures in the first place.

That's when it became so obvious that it was jealousy! she said

Education / 5 Useful Mobile Apps For Students by TunnyOgunnowo(m): 4:53pm On Jul 31, 2017
Technological innovations have over time continually made life easier in many aspects of our everyday lives, and one of such ways is through the development of various mobile apps to help students in different aspects of their school life. Here are 5 useful mobile apps for students.

Dropbox
With the Dropbox app there is no need for students to fear losing their notes, projects or coursework anymore. Students can upload different files (like documents, photos, videos etc.) in the app's cloud and access them online if they ever need them from any device, all that’s needed is an internet connection. The Dropbox apps also allows you easily share files without losing important data.

Scribd
This app is popularly referred to as the world’s biggest online library and rightly so, because it is a digital library and audiobook subscription service that helps students find millions of different documents and books useful for their studies. With the Scribd app, students can also create their own library with different notes, texts and books that they need and share them with friends or fellow course mates.

Dictionary.com
With how students sometimes get words mixed up, it is a marvel that more students don’t have at least one dictionary app on their mobile devices. Dictionary.com is a great dictionary app that makes it easy to find the definitions, synonyms and antonyms of words you are not sure about or don’t know of. As a bonus, the application also allows you to see the words people around you are searching for to help increase your knowledge pool.

RealCalc Scientific Calculator
This app is prefect for maths, advanced maths, business and engineering students because of its wide variety of features and functions that makes maths calculations much easier. With this app, you don’t need to bother about carrying a scientific calculator up and down, you can easily use the app on any of your mobile devices.

Google Drive
With Google Drive, students can take notes, draw diagrams, create spreadsheets, build presentations and save them all in the app’s cloud. The files saved are accessible from every mobile device as long as there is an Internet connection. Google Drive is basically a collection of ‘cloud based “Office” apps’ with capabilities for spreadsheets, documents, presentations, diagrams etc. The drive has surplus space – more than enough to meet the needs of an average student – however, if a students runs out of space he/she can pay for more.

SlideShare
This app is basically for viewing visual presentations of different topics and subjects that students might be interested in. The app revolves around viewing, sharing and saving these presentation files for offline access.

Celebrities / You Want A Good Marriage? Work At It - Betty Irabor Advises Young Couples by TunnyOgunnowo(m): 9:31am On Jul 31, 2017
Betty Irabor and her husband, Soni, just celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on Saturday, July 29, the Genevieve Magazine boss has now shared some words for young individuals getting married or married already.

She said: ‘What Soni and I have has taken all of 34 years to build.. So don’t for one minute think it happened overnight,’.
‘We have walked on that street called hope but having each other makes it bearable. A successful marriage doesn’t happen over night it requires sacrifice and it takes effort and nurturing.’

‘You want a good marriage? Work at it! Young couples seem to just want everything NOW NOW because they have to prove a point and impress their audience and in the process put a lot of pressure on their marriage.

‘A [good] Marriage takes two, it thrives on love in action not in mere words. Marriage requires commitment, empathy , TRUST (leave each other’s phones ALONE) don’t marry anyone you cannot trust!

‘Don’t overburden each other with over expectations and believe me the grass is not greener on the other side; avoid comparing your marriage/partner to others that seem rosier; water your own garden! In life everything is turn by turn.

‘Ojukokoro [Greed] is a vice that destroys relationships! If you both can’t afford it then you don’t need it.

‘Let your marriage grow organically. Do everything in love..don’t overburden each other with unrealistic demands.

‘Marriage won’t necessarily fix a bad relationship especially if your partner has habits that he/she won’t let go. Fix those issues before you say I DO!’

‘If he or she is violent and slaps you around now, marriage won’t fix that, if he is insecure because you are a boss woman, that insecurity may linger and lead to resentment with time.

‘Be careful who you marry..don’t set yourself up because ‘all your friends are getting married..’ That’s a trap!

‘Don’t over try to change your partner into who they are not; marriage isn’t about changing your partners essence rather it is about finding the good in each other.

‘Celebrate each bite size milestone. A successful marriage starts from the foundation .. If the foundation is not built on CHRIST how can it withstand the storms?’

‘To my young daughters and sons out there I say, don’t despise the days of humble beginnings and don’t allow anyone or society force you into a marriage you’re not ready for.

‘If you marry In haste you will repent at leisure.. As for me, I believe marriage rocks ..but get ready to work it.’

Sports / Neymar Is Confused Regarding Future At Barcelona - Gerard Pique Says by TunnyOgunnowo(m): 11:24am On Jul 30, 2017
Gerard Pique insists teammate Neymar doesn't know what to do as speculation over his possible move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain continues to dominate headlines. Neymar has been heavily linked with a move away from the Nou Camp to Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks and was described as 90 per cent' likely to leave the club.

The Brazil international has scored three goals in two friendlies for Barcelona, but has so far avoided speaking to the press but Pique has once again pleaded with the 25-year-old to stay at the Nou Camp.

He said “Neymar and I we are very close and I want him to stay and I know the situation, right now he doesn't know what to do and we are trying to help him, the ones [on the team] that are more close to him to take the right decision.”

Travel / 5 Signs Your Visa Application Will Be Rejected by TunnyOgunnowo(m): 11:26pm On Jul 29, 2017
The process for applying for a visa is very exhausting and rigorous. Hence, it will leave a sour taste in the mouth after serious planning, submitting and been interviewed for a visa, you end up being denied. As such, if you are about to make your visa application, then you should look out for these signs are to further prepare you against a visa rejection.

You cannot clearly explain the source (s) of your funds
The majority of embassies will assume that applicants are seeking permanent entry into their country until you prove them otherwise. And one way to prove them otherwise is to present evidence that you have strong economic reasons to return to your country following your stay. What other way to do this than your bank statement? Hence, ensure that your cash inflow and outflow are credible. They do not want to give visas to criminals.

Your visa agent cannot answer basic visa questions
If your visa agent promises to deliver to you a visa without asking you basic questions that only you have answers to, you should feel very uncomfortable about that application. It may most likely be rejected.

You have a record visa denials
If you have a record of refusals from a particular embassy, they will know that you arguably are desperate to leave your country. If you have been refused once at any embassy, they have the record. Hence, do not submit any visa application without consulting reliable visa businesses for advice. The more you are rejected, the more your visa application will be denied and vice-versa.

You apply for the wrong visa category
There are different visa categories and, for every visa you are applying for it must correspond with your lifestyle. If it does not support the category of visa you are applying for, that is a strong signal, which you address before even submitting your application or else you will suffer the embarrassment of a rejection.

You have an uneasy feeling about an answer
If you have answered a question on your application but you don't feel comfortable about the answer you have provided, then you need to take steps back and peruse your responses again. The reason is that, you will unconsciously communicate your uneasy feelings to your interviewer while answering that question; particularly if they seem interested in that particular answer.

Business / 6 Helpful Tips For Starting A Small Business by TunnyOgunnowo(m): 12:34pm On Jul 29, 2017
Starting your business is stressful and quite demanding, however, there are some helpful tips to help ease the process to a reasonable extent. Here are 6 helpful tips for starting a small business.

Have Plan to Execute Your Idea
It’s not enough to just have a great idea for your business, you need to develop that idea and you need a plan to do that. You should first develop a business concept, then from there you write a solid business plan to guide your development of the business concept. The business plan is a very essential tool for bringing your business idea to life and presenting to potential investors for help in setting up your business.

Establish a Budget
A budget is essential for efficiently managing your financial resources. It is necessary to first do some research to find out about the standard cost factors within your industry, then develop a budget to run your business based on this information. Once you are able to efficiently manage your financial resources, there is a higher chance of success in your business venture.

Get The Right Investors
This is one mistake common to first-time entrepreneurs – failing to get the right investors for their business. Not just any investor is right for your business, because there are some that might take advantage of your inexperience. It is therefore extremely important to find an investor that shares your passion, understands your idea and is someone that you can work with (that last part is extremely important).

Get a Great Support System
At the initial stage of your business, you typically need to spend a lot of time and resources getting things running. As a result, you’ll need support from family and friends. You should first ensure that your family is on board with the necessary sacrifices you are going to make in terms of time and resources, and your loved ones should be prepared for how challenging financially and even emotionally things might get. It helps to assure them that it’s only for a while and that it won’t last forever; but then you also have a personal responsibility to ensure the cost of your business venture to your loved ones isn’t far more than they can bear, because in the end ‘family should always come first’.

Ensure the Legal Aspect is Well Taken Care Of
The key word here is ‘well’. You cannot afford to be nonchalant with the legal aspects of your business venture; that can prove to be a very costly mistake. Secure the necessary permits and licenses, determine your tax obligations and get a good lawyer to guide you legally every step of the way (especially when negotiating with investors).

Take Advantage of Free Resources
The sub-heading says it all; if you can get it for free, then please do. You are not going to be given a medal for paying for every single thing relating to your business, so if you are able to negotiate and get a couple of things for free, then it really can help the success of your business venture in a monumental way and take a lot of financial pressure off you.
