Hun? So, that's how life goes. Remember it is a 3rd party site, not direct from the source. |

HAkorehdeh: Everyone in the house. I got this thread using the nl search and i discovered a lot has been said about payoneer master card. I've ordered for it since last month and it's supposed to arrive between 11th and 17th of this month. Today when i logged in to my account, i found out i have been moved to the next step (last stage). I haven't received the card yet, never received any notifications yet i was asked to verify my card. Is this how it is done? Won't i receive any notifications as my card arrives? people sef...perhaps you are new to online ordering....Is it 17th yet? This is just 12th...go check your P.O Box on the 16th or 19th....when you get the card, then you can verify...it is that simple, the company is not forcing verification on you for now...you will do that when you wish. |

coderXO: I've been on freelancer 10 years. I'll tell you about fallacies.
A mastercard or visa is exchange rate is regulated by the company issuer, not the bank.
You can't have a one bank card charging whatever it wants. What stops them from changing 100 versus 200 versus vs 50 vs 1 vs 3?
The 5000+ banks throughout the world the issuing visa/mc are each setting the exchange rates individually as they chose?
What is GTB exchange rate for when you use you naira mastercard in India or Pakistan or Myanmar or Ghana or Korea or Thailand or etc etc.
They have set the exchange rates for these too from Naira to Riyals to Cedis to USD to Rupees to Baht to Ruble?
Come on now folk. Use your medula. You don't have to be insultive to drive your point....... |

coderXO: Some people don't know what they are talking about.
This is false information.
None of these banks set the rate.
It is set by mastercard, period.
The rule of thumb with your "Freelancer" Payoneer card is withdraw the max each time ( 20,000 ) or else you will shoot yourself in the foot.
The card charges $3.00 per withdrawal and exchanges at 3% less the official exchange rate.
If you went and withdrew N5,000 you effectively reduced the final exchange rate as opposed to the rate you'd get for N20,000.
$3 on N5,000 is a 12% reduced "effective" currency rate.
$3 on N20,000 is a 3% reduced "effective" currency rate.
End of. I will still say this is a fallacy until proven otherwise...I don't believe the aspect you said, " None of these banks set the rate. It is set by mastercard, period." Oh....all the banks have separate exchange rate the same day and na Mastercard set am? FirstBank ex different from UBA, GTB, Fidelity on the same day? Mastercard is just a mode of payment like visa is.....I still insist the banks sets the exchange rate. |

I just laugh when folks say the Naira is appreciating. What a parochial thinking!! Is it the appreciation of Naira that we should be concerned about or improvement in the standard of living in the country: No constant power, industries are shutting down, high rate of unemployment, mono economy based on a single source of foreign exchange and my country is not a manufacturing country. That this nation tweaked exchange rate to $1 to N1 is superficial, not to talk of the present one Emefiele is doing presently. The law of nature says anything attained via crooked means will definitely crumble soon. Naira gaining against the dollar does not improve the standard of living of the poor man on the street. Soon, the devastating effect of these shallow policies will come like a tsunami..... >:

So that my dollars will not be hanging. Anybody in my shoe here? Permit me to teach you a wise thing. It is true what Ladywriter said about being yourself but often times it doesn't work with our bad image. I opened a native flag account and it has been working wonders somehow Because in my discipline, no one will trust me with their work if I'm not native. After been awarded works, I discovered that I'm ten times better than these natives. Many of them be "olodo" but because of my flag, I'm a stereotype. Let me use my foreign flag. I only see it as my Transnational identity. I don't bid on projects I'm not able to handle. After finalizing projects awarded, they end up with "waoh...this is awesome" but if they really know who I am, will they even consider me? This is an online forum...send me a PM...I will teach you one wisdom. I'm yet to withdraw my earnings too but there is a flaw in FL policies which they should think of. What if I'm an immigrant travelling to and fro and i opened in a foreign land only to come back home? 2sex: Please, I want economics technocrats to enlighten me on this new policy by the CBN governor. From what I understand on this new wave or trend of the Naira against Dollar, the dollar is being FORCED under intense pressure to fall against the naira.
To the best of my knowledge, this is an artificial surgery to a natural problem, I can't see how this is sustainable in the long run.
To be clear, I like the new trend and I a PRO Buhari, so please do not call me a wailler . I am just trying to be more pragmatic with an open mind.
This bring me to the main question that is bothering my mind: What are the economic measures in place to ensure that the naira doesn't fall against the dollar in weeks ahead and is it ensured that the naira becomes stable or rise further against the dollar? I need to know please you're very sensible....short term against perennial problem....fix power....fix transport networks.....enlarge agriculture and manufacturing.....and fix ICT.....it will crash itself and naira will be strengthened...but when you create artificial solution for a perennial/natural problem, it won't last. The after effect will be disastrous, and how great will the crash be! CBN is not taking its time to plan with precision. |

onatisi: very simple. Banks are no longer allowing you to deposit dollars or foreign exchange in your Dom account anymore. And we all Dom acc are mainly used by business ppl. 2)you can spend the money you have in your Dom account but can't fund it. 3) there is a 300dollars daily spending limit on cards and 50000$ annual spending limit. So how do importers and manufacturers pay for goods they need for their goods manufacturing and services I watched a discussion about it this morning on CHANNELS where they interviewed an Economist. It's still the same thing I said earlier this week. He said the CBN policy is short-term and won't go a long way in reality....you can decide to keep your dollars until policy change....if you take dollars to other nations of the world, they will simply collect it from you and give you the equivalent rate in their currency. It's that simple. US Dollar is too strong now. Although i don't support the dollarization of the economy but if the policies of Government is not changing towards manufacturing and industrialization...this policy will have a disastrous effect. Now, let's talk of importers...it is easier to import things from China where the markets are than manufacture in Nigeria. Why? Coz the platform, tools and environment for creating such is not available by the same Government policy. It is even more expensive...diesel, lack of constant energy, bad roads and poor ICT. So? How do importers pay? Perhaps they are trying to put them out of business...what about opening dom accounts in neighboring countries? |

But there is another variant of OFE that is called EGBE (which involves sudden catching away). Most often used when sudden harm wants to happen to the person, like accidents, attack befor e you even premeditate anything, without your consent. OFE involves CONSENT, but EGBE doesn't. EGBE can dump you in BERMUDA TRIANGLE but OFE will take you to your envisioned destination. |

TonySpike: I am most intrigued by inventions of "Kanako" and "ofe" by our forefathers. These two charms would make Harry potter and his minions jealous of African science. As a scientist, "Kanako" is a called road shortener, actually it should be called "space-time manipulator". How were our fathers able to develop these potent charms that rubbishes modern physics law of relativity? Ofe is simply a simpler form of "space-time manipulations", in those days, "ofe" was only invoked when in danger.
Now, my thoughts: 1. Could our forefathers have used Kanako to travel from one point to another while migrating?
On a softer note, there existed a form of Kanako in Igbo culture. With Kanako, you could travel from Lagos to Kano in a matter of seconds! I like your thoughts on road shortener, but their is always a price to pay for Kanako, especially. It is often used on urgent matters, dire situation and when you are running out of time to save an important situation. When you use it, your spirit will still come back and walk that same distance in the middle of the night. |
