Please exclude pharmacy from that list of yours. Nobody who studied pharmacy would want to go back for medicine! What for? To limit himself in hospital when his mates are in the industry, community pharmacy etc and making it big?

Many of us knew that medicine was there when we chose pharmacy! In fact, I beat the cut off for medicine in my de exam but chose pharmacy instead.
As for the affected candidates, I will advise them not to settle for less. If medicine is what they love, they should fight on until they get it.
Some people are too ignorant in Nigeria , that is why they think that medicine is all there is.

Odera and I graduated from pharmacy school 6 months ago, have been inducted and ever since that time, I've been looking for where to do my internship with little success. Please, if anyone has any information of any hospital, agency or institution that is currently taking interns, I would really appreciate if you say so. Thank you so much everyone. I've been following this particular forum for 3 years now, I've seen how people here have encouraged others and provided solutions to those in need of it in the past and I'm sure I have come to the right place for help and I'm really confident that you all will help me. Honestly, i feel your pain, in as much as nepotism has been the usual practise in most institutions in Nigeria, there are still good ones, i'll advice you submit application in as much hospitals as possible. National Hospital, Abuja is currently receiving applications, so is ESUTH, various HMBs or HSCs, and don't leave out some community pharmacies. Personally, i spent 7months searching for placement and i eventually got three (3) all the places i applied to. I had to settle for the best (NOHIL). Remember to also pray too, and dont keep to yourself. Tell as much people as possible, you never know who would help. Be prepared always as interviews may come anytime and its important you be the best you can be. Trust me, it gets better..the hard time has passed, no matter how many months it takes, you will get it. Cheers!

ste to rule out hospital Pharmacy practise in Nigeria just yet. while so much still needs to be done generally, some institutions have actually moved past licking, sticking and counting era of Pharmacy practise. Some key hospitals practise the real pharmaceutical care, For example, National Orthopedic Hospital Igbobi Lagos, practise the laid down principles of pharmaceutical care to the letter. with Four consulting/counselling rooms, where patients get all they should know about the drugs prescribed. Pharmacists also go on wardrounds, where they are actively involved in medication decisions for the patients. Patient monitoring for ADRs etc. Alot happens in the hospital settings which most of us dont know about. The only problem is, most hospitals' management still dont give the pharms the credence,.which i'm sure can be resolved through proper dialogue with the authorities, Pharmacy practise is not about proving who's more important in the healthcare system, its all about service delivery. Soon, most institutions will follow suit on what NOHIL is doing and hospital Pharmacy practise will be the envy of all..

The beauty of 'Structure Activity Relationship' (SAR) will give you a new dimension of eye-opening as you begin to understand the use of functional groups in drug activities, which will be the main factor in reassuring the Physicians and the likes, that 'Your judgement regarding drugs' should not be contested or second-guessed!

Another thing is the area of Drug Development!!!! You don't really wanna get me started!

Many more advantages abound in valuing your Pharm chem, and there are many advantages attached to Cognosy as well!

kjbobo: Its gonna be written as four although mine was five but I think its becos Pharmacy school doesn't reckon with Part 1 as Part of your Pharmacy knowledge acquisition
process.
However,I want to advise to please not listen to people and lecturers that will say its not about g.p
if you have plans to further or pick up sime reputable jobs or further outside country. ...dont joke with g.p abeg!
4.0 is d minimum you can finish with to have soft landing.

Pharmacy curriculum comprise a one year preliminary stage (100L) followed by four years (200L through 500L) tough but interesting Professional stages!

So technically, its a five years program!

And after graduating, you go for internship in any of the areas of Pharmacy (hospital, Community or Industry). After this you go for NYSC, after which you will be given a full license to practise and PSN number to go with it!

Nope..you don't need a Msc in Pharm to go for PharmD, PharmD is just an extension of B.Pharm, with more clinically-oriented stuff! Ward rounds and all. Takes pharmaceutical care to a whole new level and hence, more patient-oriented. Meaning, it involves more of Clinical and Biopharmacy and less of PharmChem and Cognosy.

Msc in Pharm is however in a class of its own!
