vvvvvvvvvvvvvvv:i am not a guru, but here is my question and then my view on what to do is there any reason to the changes in surname on many official documents ?? i mean divorce, annulment? if none, swear an Affidavit before a Notary Public and submit, detailing that the person with all the different formats of surnames are the same person and that she will like to be known as ( whatever the person chooses) and she should stick to that in all her official documents and all..... |
Megziflips:While i am not a guru, i think from the replies on this thread i can say a little something something about the whole supervisorship thing. it is usually a lot more difficult to convince your potential supervisors if you do not have a proposal of what you want to do and how you hope to go about doing that same thing during your Masters programme. they also sometimes may reply to pattionately worded straight to the point emails where you can outline your interests displaying how far and wide you have read on such areas of interest (not sure about this but i want to believe that most research based masters programmes will request for your researcgh proposal as part of the application process). about getting admission without the supervisor, i dont know how feasible that is because their requirements more oftenn than not state that without the supervisor, you will not be granted admission. some allow you to apply and then start your journey towards getting a supervisor while others will not even consider your application at all without supervisorship. This does not mean to say it is absolutely impossible. the best person to answer that will be either the graduate chair of your faculty or the graduate secretary.... but in my humble opinion for research based Masters generally, there is a need to have both the research proposal and the supervisor (where applicable) ready Note i answered based on previous posts, i went in for law and while it is highly recommended that you speak to potential supervisors and all, it is at the admissions committee level that the supervisors pick their supervisees. |
koolkamzzy:sponsorship from your fiance will be okay as long as the person is willing to write a sponsorship letter and also state in the letter why the person decided to do same on your behalf, since you are not legally married under the law yet. An affidavit stating that the said fiance will also be taking care of all the requirements as regards funds during your stay is also going to go a long way and finally in my opinion to show commitment to the sponsorship, the person may pay part/all the tuition fees required, and also send some money to your account making sure the narration reads for either living and feeding expenses and in the narration. please note i am no guru, im an ordinary admission seeker and all i have stated has been what i have read on here. |
elimsme:As I rightly said no final admission will be granted and I made my post based on what the poster said he read on the website....... Thanks |
emmy4Gold:As you have rightly answered your question I will just reiterate it for you, while your unofficial/student transcript is okay in some schools for CONDITIONAL acceptance UBC has rightly informed you that no admission decision will be taken without your official copy, therefore to get admission, your official transcript has to be given |
Osemigho:Cc: Original Poster pls Separation and Divorce in law are two separate and distinct situations...... While divorce will allow the change of name, separation is not technically seen as marriage over under law, so the change in name may be seen as suspicious or whatever..... In my opinion, the best your mother can do is to swear an affidavit, because if you go at them with separation then there is no reason for change of name as separation still gives an air of the possibility of a resumption of conjugal rights at anytime till proper divorce proceedings are commenced ... @yemdogg what do u think?? |

telvinfantasy:I'll only advise based on everyone's opinions and views please keep in mind I'm waiting on admission from my unis. Using an agent has on this thread as mentioned by victims more often than not proved to be of no better value than doing it yourself. My advise to you, go through the first page of this thread and view the things that you need to know. And from there ask questions where you are unclear and do this yourself or better still pay @michv the *trv doctor* and I'm sure he'd help you out in a big way LOL..... I just don't see the need for an agent seeing as mst of us on this thread are a lot more knowledgeable about the ins and outs eveb better than the so called agents.....sorry to any agent in the room, just speaking from other peoples observations.... It is wel |
Rfactor:While I started to look for supervisors in my various applications I found out that if you just mail the professor's and tell them what you think they want to hear, 9/10 will not reply... I got this from a PhD student in uottawa, when approaching a potential supervisor be very straight to the point, tell them why you are mailing them and why you think they'd be a good fit for your thesis, and why you'd be a good fit for their research interests. Not just telling them, send a copy of your CV, your research proposal, and also a copy of previous works, pls make sure they are not too bulky, many may not answer, a few will tell you that you can mention their names in your application and a few MAY even give you pointers on how to come up with a better proposal that would be catchy and interesting enough for someone to want to take you on. They are people who are usually very busy so if your mail doesn't go straight to the point, more often than not your mail is sent to the trash.... Prayer is also key sooooo Some are just downright uninterested |
princeade09:In my opinion he may not have the full thing for the full one year, but the job he has must be able to pay for your tuition and whatever else and still have some left over to take care of himself and the family (if he is a man, or woman, lol) but I don't believe that his account balance not reading the full amount for tuition and all will hinder the application outrightly, he may pay the first semester to show his commitment and his SOA must also be one that shows that over time he will be buoyant enough to sort your fees and also his own personal needs and all. Hope this helps pls note, I have no first hand knowledge just from a lot of reading on the thread, and also some family experiences... I am still waiting o my admission from Manitoba and sask. It is well. |
Ayat1209:With the cgpa I'd not advise u to apply to UBC, if your last 2 years were good u can apply to Manitoba, I don't really know about ualberta tho |
michV:Been thinking the same thing also, cos I distinctly remember seeing her post something about a scholarship for her program, yet people are here calling her a liar, later people will wonder why they get shunned when they ask questions. Even if she didn't explain, she has her trv, that's something, you calling her liar online doesn't take away the trv biko. I'm glad she didnt stoop low to exchange words too. Pretty mature. |

I did try something like that international security laws and its loopholes, which allows for them to operate in the international community, this included financiers both state and individual, when I sent my proposal, I was replied with the research proposal is dull, detailed, but not so helpful in the academia since its nothing new, and the suggestion was brought to focusing on Boko Haram and the Nigerian approach to it, although I still in my proposal linked it to the international community, so I guess in the and its all love. Lol Thanks though, you in faculty of law in U of M? My application has been under review for 3 weeks at the department. |
Kanyekels:If you had a 3.5 in your last two years please go ahead and apply to d schools stated. You'd be considered Goodluck |
Kanyekels:Pls do not quote me out of context I said they will consider if your last 2 years made good sense. 1. U of Manitoba 2. U of Saskatchewan 3. U of Ottawa. Those three I'm sure of at least info was from some persons who are already in these schools. |
martineverest:Replied sir |

That UBC is cheaper, i don't know about other courses, but for law, its not their fees are about 3-4k dolls apart. And UBC is one of the top 3 unis in Canada, and they are very strict with the 2:1 request unlike other schools that will consider your last 2 years despite your 2:2, I'm not sure UBC does same, at least according to my brother who's a masters student there currently. I may be wrong though. |
famous17:The truth is it depends on your bank o, but id advise you check out abokifx.com, they are usually on the right path. NB: pls I'm not a marketer for the website, but it has helped me a whole lot, also try and gauge using the most expensive quote for any currency u r searching for. Hope it helps Goodluck sir/ma |
Nony1:I believe its because they are way cheaper than almost every other school when it comes to Masters? And it doesn't take away from the level of academic excellence they also portray. I may be wrong, apart from that its every mans choice tho. Lol |
sugababe101:Depends on the school you are applying to, Uni of Manitoba will allow you upload an unofficial transcript (student transcript falls here) for the initial assessment if you r given admission, you would be required to send the official transcript to them directly from your university here in Nigeria. U of Sask also allows you to upload an unofficial transcript for assessment, and you will later also need to send the official transcript from your uni too. Some schools require that the official transcript be sent alongside other necessary documents that are required for your admissions process. Depends, go through the school website, the information you will need will be on the application for a particular programs page especially where you have the required documents section. I hope this helps. Good luck |
yemdogg:My research thesis is on the Nigerian approach to Boko Haram: need for a change. If I'm going by professors in my line of research, they are few and far between, except I just send to them anyhow, that's where my problem is, few are lecturers and researchers in Public International Law. |
That's an image of the faculty of law requirements as regards supervisorship.
|
Riddeek:To the bolded, I would like to disagree, because while I was applying I sent mails to professors and I was told when I am being considered for admission, I would be attached to a professor. So saying that I guess should be department related, don't state it categorically, for college of law,it is not compulsory, they'd give u a supervisor when your application is being considered. Thanks .goodlucknand God bless |
Dampop1:Good evening, From my small knowledge o, 3.06 is low, but not impossible. For Manitoba which is a university thstis very competitive though, I'd advise not to waste money there. I know of three schools that may admit you with a 2:2 if your last two years were very good they are umanitoba, u Saskatchewan, and Uottawa, so why not switch Manitoba for Ottawa. Statement of intent is basically u telling the graduate school why you chose the school, what you hope to achieve, and how the course you applied for helps you achieve it, and also how your undergraduate years have prepared you for the stressful graduate course you want to take. Goodluck |
sleekysoft:No need for sample, just introduce yourself, talk about your research interest and how they incline with the research interests of the professor, and then send a thesis proposal for him/her to go through. That's it majorly. Take note though, they are very blunt people, and if your proposal isn't up to par, they'd state it without fear, I once had a potential supervisor (before I was told it was unnecessary) tellmevia email that my research proposal was boring and had nothing that would interest him PR the academic community nor would it add to the body of knowledge. Just make sure you're above standard and contact them. That's it. Good luck |
sugababe101:Today Saskatchewan and Ottawa |
i made application fee payments for two schools today using my fcmb mastercard, they deducted 35750.75 for 100 cad so, if u r applying just keep in mind that its between 350 and 365 to be on the safe side. have a good day. |
martineverest:Masters in Law. |
martineverest:If you're exempt, nothing to be confused about. Wish u all d best too..... |
martineverest:My school is exempt from English proficiency since. Was instructed in English for more than 3 years..... You can mail the school to find out if you r exempt. |
